- JILL (9/5): Great stay - Hotel was great amazing location Our room was fabulous although a bit dark as there is no real windows The reception staff were fabulous very helpful especially when things went wrong The bell man was great too they both spoke very good English and were extremely helpful The pool was lovely to come back to after a tour with free sun hats to wear see below about loud music though We wasn’t met at the right terminal when we landed and although this was not the hotel fault as they hire an agency they did sort it out in the end and gave us a discount for the inconvenience We had a problem at breakfast one morning we never normally complain but we felt it was unacceptable when we are paying a lot to stay here the lovely lady on reception took us seriously and told the head of the restaurant The next morning we were treated like kings and they gave us an upgrade which we really appreciate The guy at the pool plays music so loud that you can’t hear anything else and there wasn’t anyone there he also wasn’t there we asked him to turn down when we saw him as we could also hear it so loudly in our room when we went back to relax it really was unnecessary Sounds like we moaning a lot really don’t but you don’t expect this from this type of hotel Again need to say how fantastic the girl on reception was
- 780ayshad (10/5): Exceptional Service and a Peaceful Escape in Getsemaní - My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Capellan de Getsemaní in Cartagena for a full week, and it truly felt like a home away from home. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was exceptional. Rey, the doorman, was incredibly warm, attentive, and welcoming—he set the tone for our entire stay. Yerlis at the front desk was equally wonderful. She was always helpful, knowledgeable, and ready to answer any questions we had, making everything seamless and stress-free. We were especially impressed by the dining experience. Lis and Tatiana provided outstanding service—both were professional, attentive, and very helpful when it came to ordering and serving our meals. Their kindness did not go unnoticed. Alejandro also stood out during our stay. He was not only hardworking and always keeping everything clean, but also very friendly and welcoming. He was the one who assisted us to our room when we first arrived, which made a great first impression. You can truly tell he takes pride in his work, and he always had a smile on his face. The hotel itself is very clean and peaceful, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. And I have to mention the breakfast—fresh, delicious, and something we looked forward to every single morning! Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff made our experience unforgettable, and we would absolutely return and recommend it to anyone visiting Cartagena.

- Traveler64157 (10/5): Great trip to Cartagena!!! - Had an incredible experience at the Capellan Hotel in Cartagena!! On a Daddy-Daughter trip while my daughter was in town. We had a bal and the team at the hotel was incredible. The Clero restaurant team made us feel at home and the front desk team helped us carve out a great experience. Thanks to William, Lis, Jennifer, Natalie, Yersel and Rey!!!!! Can’t thank you all enough for a wonderful time!! See you soon!!!
- aishah604 (10/5): Relaxing, friendly and luxurious - I had a fantastic stay at this hotel and would happily return. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming from the moment I arrived. The staff were incredibly attentive and genuinely friendly, always happy to help with anything I needed. The pool area was amazing – clean, well maintained, and a perfect place to relax. The location is also brilliant, with everything I wanted to see and do within easy reach. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!
- 4vagabonds (6/5): Some things were great and some not - The Hotel is beautiful and well taken care of. The location is also very good if you want to be in Getsamani, and easy walk to Centro. The food service needs to be greatly improved. There is great ceremony over breakfast but the food is bland and tasteless. Even the coffee wasn't great. Same with the bar service by the pool. Things take much too long and the food is just not good, even with the low expectations for hotel food Our waiter two different days, while sweet, made a mistake in our orders And we waited half an hour for a drink as even tho there is a bar in the pool area he had to get the drinks from ground floor main bar. Beautiful hotel charging top dollar should get it's amenity offerings to a better quality both of the food and service. We did not experience any noise issues and again the decor is gorgeous altho I agree with another reviewer who commented on poor use of space within guest rooms. Last small quibble, came in with an AMEX reservation that entitles me to a late check out if available which I would have liked. They upgraded me to a room without telling me they had an incoming reservation so morning of check out we were unable to keep the room beyond normal check out. Could have let me know when upgrading that I would be unable to keep the room late (as it is a perk of my reservation) and perhaps choose a different room...the hotel was def not full so other rooms were available

Great size family room, we travelled with 12 and 13 year olds and were very happy with the size and comfort of the beds. Breakfast is delish staff are friendly. Location is excellent in Gestamani close to everything. Sound proofing needs to be looked at, can hear other rooms.
- Drew (10/5): Great hotel in Cartagena - Great stay at Capellan! The staff were so friendly, the daily breakfast was excellent, and the location is truly perfect. Some of the city's best restaurants and its best coffee roaster are a 5-minute walk, but you're also close to the port and the old city. Nicely designed hotel with a great little rooftop. Holiday pricing made this hotel very expensive, but it was excellent!
- TruthTellingTravel (6/5): Wanted to love this hotel but ultimately didn’t - I really wanted to love this hotel. I really did!They have a stunning courtyard, some beautiful public spaces and the staff are so lovely and caring. But there were just a couple things I couldn’t get over during my 4 night stay. I guess it’s the architectural style, but the rooms are extremely dark. Super tiny windows, no natural light, very little interior lights and it was quite hard on my elderly parents who already have poor eyesight. Secondly, was the street noise. While you’re extremely central in Getsemani, it means you’re gonna hear the crowds, music and party buses—especially on the weekends. It eventually dies down past midnight. But bring earplugs. Lastly is the layout of the room. We opted for the Jr Suite which has lots of space—but it’s not well used. It’s just a big open room that’s simply not functional, and they kind of plopped random furniture around. Maybe it’s meant to be “charming” but the decor and layout of my Jr Suite was different from the Jr Suite my parents were in. Also, there was no desk area in my Jr suit which made it very awkward to do work. In retrospect l, I would opt for the Superior room w/ jacuzzi instead which (although smaller) utilizes the space much better.

Fatto presente ma non hanno sistemato camera 27 . Colazione compresa ma inesistente un tipo di marmellata solo caffè con latte e scelta un panino piccolo e immangiabile e una brioche unta e non cotta , cruda .questa la colazione hotel 5 stelle. The hotel was beautiful, the staff was amazing, the rooms are large & comfortable & the AC works great! Which is a huge plus in the hot & humid weather! You are located right in the heart of things too, so the location is great! You can walk 2-10 minutes and have 100’s a restaurants, stores, etc. at your disposal! We definitely recommend this hotel! 5 stars!

I recommend going up to the roof top pool bar and watching the sunrise. If you’re up early, the breakfast is spectacular and the bar is wonderful cocktails the cocktails are a little bit expensive compared to everything else but they are spectacular. We will certainly be coming back to this hotel and soaking up some more of its charm and historic design.

The staff were very friendly, but my only complaints are that the restaurant did not offer a good selection for the breakfast which is supposed to come with the reservation, their “Americano” option was horrible and the eggs and bacon were undercooked. To add on to that the A/C didn’t work at restaurant, which is why we preferred spend the extra money to eat somewhere else. Other than that, we had an okay stay.

We booked the suite and it was absolutely beautiful super clean, spacious, and felt like a true luxury escape. The front desk and staff were incredibly professional and attentive from start to finish. Breakfast (included!) was delicious and fresh, and we also ordered dinner through room service which was just chef’s kiss. Everything exceeded our expectations and we’re so glad we chose to stay here. Highly recommend if you’re coming to Cartagena and want a peaceful, high-end experience!

Beautifully decorated and well maintained, the hotel is very clean. Despite the central location it is quiet thanks to the internal courtyard. Excellent spa with experienced therapist. Walking distance from many sights and surrounded by great restaurants. The breakfast was a highlight to start every day. The hotel reception was very helpful in arranging various activities and providing recommendations. No gym at the hotel, but there is a full gym in a mall a 10min walk away.

Staff is 100, absolutely helpfully, attentive, treated us with extreme care. Restaurant was a big plus, with chef quality food, beautiful and delicious plates. The room was large and comfortable, one of the best showers we've ever used. Beds were super comfortable, good streaming options on the TV. Concierge service was really helpful and we regretted not relying more on it. Perfect experience, will definitely stay again every time we're back in cartagena

- JesseGreens2023 (10/5): An oasis in crazy Cartagena - We had a great experience at the Hotel Capellan de Getsemani—the staff was lovely, and the pool was very serene. We spent most of our days at the pool, and at this time of year, we were usually the only ones there. During our stay, the staff was amazing and catered to our every need. Despite our limited Spanish, they were polite and friendly all week. We got one of the jacuzzi rooms, and as mentioned in other reviews, it was very loud (it faces an open-air club across the street). The staff kindly offered to switch us, but we liked being on the top floor near the pool, so we stayed put. It was loud every night, but we had white noise and earplugs, so we made it work. If I were to book again, I'd go for a suite on the second floor instead. The room itself was lovely, and the daily cleaning was excellent. We went through a lot of towels, so it was a relief to always have a new stack waiting for us! I booked a 90-minute massage in the outdoor spa area—I would definitely recommend that. Nichole was amazing, and at about $100 USD, I wish I'd gotten one every day. The area is covered, and a huge rainstorm was the perfect sound bath during my treatment. The hotel's location is its real selling point, and I would 10/10 recommend it and stay here again!

The only suggestion is for the bed to be moved farther from the wall to expose the wall outlets. I was searching for a place to charge my phone and watch for a moment. Great service and very hospitable people. Augusto was very knowledgeable and helpful with restaurant reservations, as well as tour reservations. Waitresses at the restaurant were very kind. I’d definitely stay here again.

Had some mosquitos from the humidity but they sprayed the room down with some bug spray on request which helped. included breakfast is delicious with eggs, fruit plate, and bread basket. Great bathroom products such as for shampoos and body wash. Staff was incredibly nice, and helpful. Always available if needed. Definitely would return again. Area is quiet at night, maybe some noise from passerby but not a problem for me. Did a massage at the Spa, affordable and amazing experience on the outdoor shaded terrace and relaxing. Good wall AC in the room - keeping room perfect for the hot weather. Everyone was attentive to your needs!

The hotel boasts a well-maintained property in a convenient, central neighborhood of Cartagena. However, for a $250/night rate, the limited breakfast menu was underwhelming. Most disappointing was being charged extra for water at breakfast without prior notice. These small but significant service gaps detracted from what could have been an exceptional experience. While the setting was lovely, these unexpected nickel-and-diming practices felt inappropriate for a hotel in this price range.

Loved our room, it was a suite upgrade due to being a Preferred Hotels member. Excellent amenities that included breakfast each day. Lovely hotel and great food too. One suggestion...latte and cappuccino were not hot. The room service was excellent but coffee was cold again. This is an easy fix, I suggest small carafes for the coffee service. Keeps coffee hot and customers happy. I highly recommend this hotel.

- EboneynLoud (10/5): Gorgeous hotel with wonderful service. - We stayed at Hotel Capellán de Getsemaní this week, and it completely exceeded my expectations—especially as someone who struggles with hotel anxiety. From the moment we arrived, everything was amazing. First and foremost, the cleanliness was impeccable. The room, the building, and the pool were all spotless and well maintained. Housed in a historic building, the hotel had the charm and warmth of visiting a close friend’s beautiful home. The customer service was exceptional. Our flight was delayed over three hours, and we didn’t arrive until close to midnight. Thankfully, the hotel-arranged transportation waited for us without issue, and check-in was quick and effortless. I’ve noticed some reviews mentioning frustration with the language barrier. Just a note—Cartagena is a Spanish-speaking city, so it’s helpful to know some basic Spanish. I’m not fluent, but I managed just fine with a mix of Spanish and smiles! Our room was a spacious double with two beds—extremely comfortable. The shower was easily one of the best I’ve ever experienced in a hotel (and I travel often). Thoughtful touches like fresh flowers and bedtime cookies made the stay even more special. We stayed on the second floor, away from street noise, and located just under the pool area. During the day, we could hear some music from above, but it was never disruptive—especially since we were usually out exploring. I did spend one afternoon relaxing by the pool. It’s small, but quiet and intimate—we had it all to ourselves, which made it perfect. The on-site restaurant, Clero, was incredible. The complimentary breakfast offered a wide variety—fresh fruit, eggs, pancakes, and delicious bread—just let the staff know what you’d like. We also tried the ceviche (so fresh), the empanadas (top-notch), and the ice cream (absolutely heavenly). Location-wise, the hotel is just steps from the entrance to the Getsemaní neighborhood, and we walked to almost every attraction, tour pickup, and restaurant. It’s truly an ideal base for exploring Cartagena. I absolutely loved this hotel and would recommend it without hesitation. It made our visit to Cartagena feel both relaxing and memorable. I would definitely stay here again!

The hotel itself is a beautiful oasis in the middle of a busy part of the city where you can escape and relax by the pool or on the rooftop. The 15mins complimentary massages were also a lovely bonus. The breakfast was great but it would have been nice to have a few more options included with the room cost. Everything else was absolutely fantastic.

We asked for early check in, they said check in was at 3 and they couldn't do earlier. Then they didn't get our room ready until 4pm, so we were waiting from 2pm to 4pm to get our room. Tried contacting over messages and over calling and could never get anyone to tell us if we could have early check in Asked front desk to book a taxi to the airport, and they never confirmed so we just booked ourselves. Front desk is just rude and not trying to help. It's a shame because the hotel is beautiful, and the doorman and cleaners are nice, but would not return due to front desk staff

We walked absolutely everywhere.

- Robert (10/5): Luxurious boutique hotel walking distance to everything - There’s so much to like about this hotel. The building is beautiful and the rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. We stayed in a family suite with two levels and two bathrooms. They even had child sized robes waiting for our kids when we arrived. Our room was on the inside of the building so the street noise was reduced. Weather prevented us from taking full advantage of the pool, but we used it twice and enjoyed the rooftop. Breakfast was tasty. Staff were always very helpful and kind. When it rains they turn off the elevator to the roof. This was not an issue for us as it’s only on the third floor, but anyone with mobility issues might find this very hard. There is glass flooring around the pool area that is extremely slippery when wet. Our kids fell multiple times. The pool area is small and would probably feel very crowded with more than one group using it.

- Harvy calero (4/5): - Having stayed at a different facility some days prior, (infinitum bldg, BocaGrande) checking into the hotel room honestly felt like a degrade. I booked one of the bigger suites in the hotel, and the bathroom barely had any privacy. I could literally hear everything my wife was doing there and vice versa. The pool was very small, and I was told I couldn't drink my own liquor that I had purchased outside of the hotel. Never had an issue at any other hotel with this. While purchasing their liquor, two margaritas literally cost me more than $40 USD. They didn't have a menu, I found this out at checkout. A ridiculous price when everything literally outside of the hotel is half the cost or less for the same drink. The room lighting is extremely dark, I could barely see the clothes that I ironed. Some natural lighting would have been helpful, but the room is mostly surrounded with brick walls with little lighting through the windows. Positives about the hotel, centrally located within the entire wall city. No need for a taxi service. Not worth what I payed for in my opinion.

- Michael (7/5): Good - The physical hotel is lovely, and is kept in tip top shape. The pool, while small and shallow, is a great environment and is a perfect way to cool off after the heat and humidity. The location is perfect, just steps away from the walled city but right in the Getsemani neighbourhood. The rooms are as pictured, spacious and impeccable, albeit a little dark due to the small windows. The staff are excellent, speak perfect English, and are willing to help with anything. The hotel can be quite noisy. There is a roof top restaurant right across from the hotel that has live bands on the weekend. That kept me up until 2 am Saturday night. But I got moved to a more quiet room which was fine on the week days. And it may be my age or culture, but I found the music at the pool to be very loud.
