Valencia (8/5): - You must remember to make reservations for dinner on site early each day. Our key card mechanism wouldn’t work at first which was a bit trying after the long flight and their sales pitch before allowing you in your room but they replaced the battery soon after. Location is good and very walkable to shopping, the beach, and the ferry. Also the laundry place is a 10 minute walk as there are no washing units on property.

Gary (6/5): - We were visiting the Yucatan Peninsula area for 2 weeks and decided to end our stay at the Reef 28 having stayed there before. Our selected room was a Grand Master Suite which was outstanding and very spacious and comfortable. The food at the Cantina Capricho was some of the best Mexican food But is not traditional as you might think. It reminded me more of some of the great restaurants in Oaxaca. The breakfast buffet was very good as well. The condition of the Roof Top, specifically the pool and spa's which have been resurfaced (and very poorly)since a prior visit several year ago and in need of a complete renovation. They also chose to shut down parts of the pool area inconveniencing the guest. On our final day it was so frantic that the Mgmt compressed all guest to the tiny section of the upper pool area with no prior notification. This left several guest without seating or scrambling for what to do. As far as the General Management of this Reef property goes. SOMETIMES THE KINDEST WORD IN ALL THE WORLD IS THE UNKIND WORD UNSAID. That being said the employees, especially Brenda in guest services are excellent.

Qiyanna (10/5): Great experience at The Reef 28 - Great experience with our first time staying at the Reef 28 that was in such an ideal location, just a block away from one of our favorite stretches of Quinta Avenida with many restaurants! Angelo was so great at making us feel at home with his amazing personality and reviewing our options when giving us a tour at check-in, with all of the staff being friendly and the waiters at the Cachito restaurant taking pride in sharing their Mexican cuisine offerings! After the vacation package timeshare presentation, we had a great experience with the complimentary all-inclusive passes, with the sister properties both having ocean view buffet restaurants and resort pools/swim-up bars and Reef Playacar providing a more jungle villa experience with private beach access as well!
Misty (6/5): - Nice, clean rooms. Food wasn't bad. NO private beach. Easy access to public, but it will cost you a small fortune to visit it. The pool was small, crowded, and not very clean. The drinks were terrible. No room service. They stock coffee, but no sweetener, cream, or anything to stir your cup. We spent most of our time at their sister resort, which you have to pay $15 per day each. It was worth it though. There is nothing to do at the hotel. Didn't visit the spa, so can't comment. The staff was friendly and there is easy access to shopping. I doubt I will stay again.

You can’t bring anyone to your room unless you pay 50 per person. You also can’t take food to your room. I was super confused as to why I can’t eat in my room? All in all I would probably stay here again however they need to change a couple of these rules.

Asabi (10/5): - I was looking for a cute, boutique hotel on or near the beach and The Reef 28 exceeded my expectations! The online registration process was simple and I was able to request early check in and late check out. You had the option to purchase excursions, too. I was given a welcome cocktail, then concierge gave me a tour of the facilities. Concierge also gave a pitch to attend a “presentation” at their other resort, with the offer of other amenities as gifts. However, I chose to not attend. I got the all-inclusive package, but I had to pay extra for top shelf liquor. It was worth it. The hotel is 2 blocks from the beach and one block from 5th Avenue that has all of the bars, restaurants, shops, and a mall. The only issue I had was the water in the shower wasn’t warm and I like a hot shower. I plan to return very soon!

shirley (8/5): - The hotel overall was really nice, the staff were always pleasant and the food was amazing. Being all inclusive and close to 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen was very convenient and you always had something to do. The downside was the property was very small as was the one pool. The music played from 11am to 11pm very loudly so no relaxation at all. The beach was a block away but you could use two of the Reef’s other properties with beach access for an extra fee. In the end I would recommend this property.

Chelsea (10/5): - Great stay! Loved the staff, food, and location! When I needed transportation, it was easy to arrange. The only issue was that I requested an early check-in at 11 AM, but my room wasn’t ready for over 4 hours. My guest and I had to wait in the warm lobby after our flight with no AC. Closer to check-in time, we were invited to the rooftop for lunch to pass the time, but still had to wait until after 3 PM to get our room. Other than that, everything was fantastic!

The hotel’s location is great close to the happening and love that we could shuttle to the other sister hotels and use their amenities for a small fee. Overall a great hotel and stay .

Adults only and accommodated sister resort not having available times for massages, massages available at property were good. Cons: unable to bring food back to your room, no room service, very small pool, not enough seating on top deck, food was okay at best, premium liquor not included, most meals were served lukewarm, some “hot” items weren’t even Luke warm, excursions weren’t explained in detail, weren’t told about exclusions for excursion and time was for excursion was almost 3 hours longer than what we were told.

Francisco was there almost everyday I was there on the rooftop area and he made it fun the whole time. Always provided amazing service and entertaining guy. Ricardo who works in the lobby bar was also an absolute pleasure to sit, drink, and speak with. He provided a lot of good knowledge of the local area and was genuinely great to have as one of the first faces you see walking into the hotel. The concierge desk, restaurant waiters, and cleaning staff were amazing as well. There are too many names to mention. Overall I would highly recommend this as a place to stay if you are looking to stay in Playa Del Carmen.

John (8/5): - Modern and pleasant lobby. Friendly service. Unfortunately we had cold showers but this was fixed quickly. Safe didn’t seem to work in the room. Pool area is dance party vibe/couples. Some gym equipment was not working. Free self parking was valet but free. Convenient location. Spacious room with sitting area and small balcony. Fridge and microwave handy! Coffee maker was clean.

Trenton (10/5): - Everything at your property was splendid. From the time we walked in, your staff, especially Angelo, made us feel warm and welcome. Every meal from breakfast to dinner was well done and tasted great. Portion size was just right as well. The female bartender at Lobby28, didn't get her name, made the prettiest/tastiest drinks. She made each one with care. Selfishly, I could have had the smoked salmon every morning at breakfast. We only had it once. My only thing that I could consider a negative, and it was my fault, was that there wasn't a usb plug/charger in the room. I left my brick at home but was able to walk across the street to the gift shop to purchase one. I also, enjoyed that the property was a block away from both the beach and the downtown shopping area. We normally travel beachfront properties but this was a nice change of pace! Overall, excellent trip and job by your entire property and staff on our first ever all inclusive/adults only property! Keep up the excellent work!
Monique (6/5): - I’ll start off with the good. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I mistakenly left my phone in the car that brought us from the airport and the lobby staff was nice enough to let me use the phone to solve my issue. The room was modern and nice but like some of the comments it does have a smell. If you notice there aren’t any pictures of the grounds it’s because it’s not on a resort it’s literally just a hotel. While researching this place it didn’t even cross my mind that I didn’t see any photos of anything besides the rooftop and the different rooms. My husband and I was celebrating our honeymoon and definitely thought this was an adult only resort. We purchased the all inclusive package and they only have 3 food places to choose from. The hotel is located on a street with different businesses and it’s sort of unsettling that anyone can just walk into the building. While you do have to use your keycard to get on the elevator, the stairs are right there so it doesn’t stop outsiders from coming into the building. It’s sort of unsafe if you ask me. The roof top was really nice it’s honestly the best part of the hotel but the dj played techno/edm music only. My husband had to ask him a few times if he had any hip hop or r&b and he literally played it for 10 minutes and went right back to the techno music. There is no nightly entertainment at all. If you are looking for a luxury resort style place this is not the place to be. But again the staff is lovely!

The hotel is lucky to have mostly incredible, polite, professional staff - we have to mention Brenda, Antonio and Christhian. All extremely helpful and really tried to resolve the problems we had at the hotel. We had problems with noise and music from The bars opposite the hotel until 5am on first night :( There is no beach with Reef 28 and the private Reef Beach is with an extra charge ,15 minutes away. Every one that worked at the resort was friendly and helpful. The onsite dining and bars were also very good. Great place for couples to go.

Lanicia (6/5): - This was my first time staying here and although it was a nice property, I will not be back. The customer service at the restaurants was poor, I attempted to go to the rooftop where I waited nearly 30 minutes without being addressed or assisted, went to the Mexican restaurant right after where the same thing happened as I sat at the bar. I had the all-inclusive package but didn’t utilize it much at all because the service and food was not good. I paid for medium steak that was so tough I couldn’t cut it. I dined at other restaurants in the area where the food and service was top notch. The roof top pool is small and packed, I was never able to use it the 5 days I was there. The only highlight of this property is that I had access to Coco Beach and Reef Playacar which is where I spent a lot of time. If you want a place in a walkable area, this is a good option. I wouldn’t waste money on all inclusive because your alcohol isn’t that at all, you can drink 20 drinks and never feel anything. Visit the sister properties to take advantage of their larger pools and beach, Playacar was such a beautiful property! After speaking with other visitors who were people of color, we all had similar experiences. Wait staff overlook you and will tend to others while you’re ignored. I’m a big tipper but they’d never know because of how I was treated. housekeeping was great, power went out several times over my 5 day staff and no hot water the first 2 days.
Samiayah (2/5): - The hotel was hot the rooms smelled like mildew and the room is extremely hot service was slow and I had to get up almost 90% of the time to ask for a waiter. The drinks were weird and tasted watered down I’m shocked because I came here 2 years ago. I complained to the front desk and nothing was fixed. Expecting more tips as if it’s not already included is insane especially if you’re providing bad service. I would never stay here again. The saddest part is I extended the trip prior to getting there thinking it would be great and I’m still unsatisfied.

The food delicious and drinks were on point. The staff were very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. Located blocks away from beach and entertainment strip, its definitely worth the visit.

Alexis (2/5): - I’m truly disappointed with my recent stay at The Reef 28. What was advertised as an adults-only, all-inclusive experience turned out to be frustrating and misleading. There were children on the property, despite it being promoted as adults-only. We also paid for an all-inclusive package, yet we had to jump through too many hoops just to get what we already paid for. The staff constantly pushed for upgrades and tips, which felt aggressive and uncomfortable. One of the worst parts was being lied to about an excursion—we were given false information by a staff member, which caused us to waste an entire day. That was time we couldn’t get back. To make things worse, rain and a power outage left us with no backup options or accommodations, and the staff offered little to no support during that time. All around, this was not the relaxing, luxury experience we were promised. I would not recommend this resort unless they make serious changes in honesty, service, and overall guest care

randy (8/5): - Room was very nice, large and clean. Food was good, not excellent. Location excellent however no beach access. Beach 2 blocks away. Unfortunately seaweed issues. Staff great until my husband became sick. They wouldnt allow me to bring him food to the room. I guess they would prefer him to go to the eating areas and get everyone else sick. He had fever, chills, aches, etc. Which he finally did and we prayed he didnt get others sick. Disappointed in lack of empathy and lacknof concern to other guests not getting sick.
