Guest Reviews
- Paul (10/5): - I loved the room with the glass wall to a private view of the back yard/hillside. There was a kitchen and a private patio area. Staff was so helpful to navigate our way and to secure a ferry reservation after we left there. Loved the area. Just wasn’t aware how mountainous it is in Costa Rica. Takes getting used to drive up the crazy hills. Great location and food/restaurants was amazing!!! So fresh and good.
- Kayla (10/5): - Absolutely loved this place. Made pur entire trip to Costa Rica. Honestly wished we stayed longer. Santa Teresa was bumping...so much wild life...had a howler monkey on our roof waking us up with its howls...it was quiet, peaceful and tranquil! The grounds keeper was sooo friendly and sweet. Our air conditioner didnt work in our room, they tried to fix it. It didnt really matter because the place was so great in all other aspects. It was quite the trek to the beach. We drove everyday. Parking was slim but we still had a spot everyday no worries. Loved it. 5 stars all day!
- Nancy (10/5): - The howler monkeys, bats and humming birds made this place really unique. And the cooling pool after hot days was most welcome.
- Ryan (10/5): - Wonderful property, with beautiful loft suite! Amazing private outdoor area. Pool is beautiful and property is quite private in general. Very steep hill getting to property. Loved our stay!
- Alla (2/5): - I could not stay at this place. The location is very inconvenient. Very close to dusty and noisy road. The condition of this place is sad. I preferred to find another place and lose my money.
- Tim (8/5): - This property is amazing. The one downfall is the parking situation.. There is very little parking... There is some up a very steep ramp that says 4x4 and AtV. We had a 4x4 and I'm a professional driver for a living. Yet, it still caused damage to our vehicle due to the layout and steepness.
Besides parking it was wonderful. You will definitely need a 4x4 and even better if you have a ATV
- Danny (8/5): - Real nice room which was not a casual room. They really tried to create a chill vibe and the idea that you lay between the trees was really nice (with the big windows behind the bed). Joël helped us really well with finding our way and booking the trip to Tortuga Isle and our surfing lesson. The only thing about the location is that you really need to climb up the hill by foot when going to beach, lunch or dinner.
- David (8/5): - Loved this place
Only issue was the seemingly endless traffic within close proximity to the location in early morning
- Ted (10/5): - Peaceful, quiet and absolutely stunning property. Very steep climb up the hill, about 400 meters/10 minutes walking. Would recommend an ATV or 4x4 but the place itself makes the trek up worth it. The rooms are beautiful with more space than what you would ne d - 2 beds in the loft space, nice main bed, great looking shower, and a functional kitchen in case you don't want to eat out every day. Property manager Joel was also very welcoming and friendly. We would definitely rebook in the future.
- Ted (10/5): - My wife and I enjoyed our stay because of the beautiful room that we stayed in and the property itself. Overall quiet and peaceful but it could get loud because it's beside the road but cars, ATVs, motorcycles, etc. do not come as often. We loved that the property is surrounded by trees and you can see and hear monkeys and birds close by. The road to chill has to be earned as the incline is very steep. 10 minutes of hard walking up but the place is worth it. The main person, Joel, is also very nice and friendly. We would definitely consider staying there again in the future. Thank you Chill House!
- Aubry (10/5): - This property is absolutely beautiful! Great vibe and ambience. The private balcony is phenomenal. The dirt road up the hill is difficult without 4-wheel drive and the ATVs are a little noisy. Good area of town not in the middle of traffic. I’d stay again.
- Nicole (10/5): - This place is really cool, it has a pool and hot tub. It’s also nice the rooms have a kitchenette! The only thing is it is quite a ways up a steep gravel road so we ended up always driving down to the Main Street where everything is. The place itself is amazing though, the only thing I would recommend for them to do is to put some ground coffee in the rooms as there is a coffee maker and also provide beach towels for guests to use as most people don’t fly with a big towel. Other than that it’s fantastic and we would stay here again.
- Marlon (10/5): - Lindo lugar, calidad precio excelente, zona de piscinas increíble
- Barry (10/5): Hidden gem! - beautiful accommodation! Simply perfect just located outside of the busy streets of Santa Teresa. Only downside is the steep op hill road that leads to the apartments. I’m dry season it’s manageable with a 4x2, wet season 4x4 is definitely needed.
- Jordan (10/5): - The family really liked this property. Kids loved the beds in the loft area. It was a fun environment. Quiet, tucked away from the town. Roads to the property were steep and parking was a little tricky.
- Mariska (10/5): - Amazing place with unique outdoor space!
- Angela (4/5): - Don’t ignore the reviews about the “hill”. That hill is ridiculous. There is no “staff”, no “shuttle” so you have to carry everything up and down the muddy and steep hill each time you leave your room. The “eco chic chill house” doesn’t have anything for its guests- no coffee, no reception, no activities…just the damp room overlooking the images you see in the reviews. There’s nothing else to see but these images. At the bottom of the hill theres good restaurants, beach etc but there are many many places nicer, cleaner and more welcoming that “chill house”.
PS)if you take a rental- remember that it’s 5 hours from the airport and NO ONE will answer the canaima chill house office phone to help you and they wont help you carry your stuff down the hill in the pouring rain either.
- Sheena (8/5): - It was away from the main party scene which was peaceful and quiet. If it rained, ensure you have a AWD or 4x4 vehicle as it is on a steep gravel road that would easily turn to slick mud. The pool was zen and relaxing but couldve been cleaner. Friendly staff.
- AUDRIANNA (10/5): - Excellent experience!
- Maria (10/5): HIDDEN PEARL - Canaima Chill House is really a hidden pearl up in the hills a 5-7 minute walk from the mainroad in Santa Teresa. The owner Juan and his staff are all very welcoming and helpful, and make sure you have everything you need for a pleasant stay. The walk up there...yeah, its kind of a workout. A quad would have been nice. But dont let the walk scare you, its worth the privacy🍃 I can imagine this place is even more beautiful off dry season. So, thank you all for a very pleasant stay! Pura Vida🌊🐳🙏
- John (4/5): Sad and tired facility - Maybe 10 years ago this could have been a chilling place, however, sadly no more !
Zero maintenence, zero outdoor cleaning and you had more opportunities to view the local wildlife than find a member of staff.
The hotel had no appeal factor at all ... pool looked like it had not been cleaned in months
In hindsight we should have left after day one.
- Steven (10/5): Very Chill - Canaima Chill House was amazing. It definitely had a chill vibe. The room was beautiful with a big Queen Size bed, in the kitchen there is a two burner gas stove and dishes, The longe area had a four person table for meals with a very cool hanging bed to chill on. The common area provided a hot tub if you wanted more heat! two longe chairs, bean bag chairs, a pit with cushions to enjoy. There was a small pool which was prefect to cool off in after a hot day at the beach. The only issue we had with this accommodation was the road to the location. It was very steep with large dips in the road due to the rainy season our RAV 4 bottomed out twice going up. We decided to rent a 4X4 which was a lot of fun and easier to get up the hill and around Santa Teresa. At the bottom of the road to the right were some wonderful restaurants to enjoy.
- Alexandra (10/5): Worth the climb - Such a lovely place to stay! So peaceful and out of the noise of the Santa Teresa main streets. Up a very steep hill! I stayed here without a car so climbed up and down at least 2-3 times per day. Worth it for an able bodied person! Note that reception is not open in the evenings but is accesible by phone for emergencies.
- Sofia (10/5): - I love it 😍
- Verified traveler (10/5): Peaceful chill indeed - Great outdoor areas to chill and listen to the jungle. The room exceeded my expectations, very large and comfortable and stylish. Very peaceful location. I did not have a vehicle, but the walk to the Main Street is very doable. It is only about a quarter mile, unpaved and rocky, steep in some places. It took me 5 minutes to walk down and 8 minutes to walk up. There are several restaurants at bottom of hill, and a beach path directly across from road. Taxi rides further into town were around 6-8000 Colons ($10-12). Wish I could have stayed longer, highly recommended and great price for the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The while place was stunning. The swinging beds on our private patio and by the nice cool pool were a big highlight for me, as well as the glass shower area looking into the jungley yard. The hill up is no joke. I almost rolled our 4 wheeler but I also have very little experience driving them.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved everything about this place I stayed there for 8 days and had a wonderful time the place is gorgeous with friendly people and very confortable I do recommend having a car or some kine of transportation because the hotel is up a hill and going up and down is a workout on it own
- Verified traveler (10/5): - the perfect relaxing tree house in the jungle, near the surf town of Santa Teresa.
- Daniel Gerardo (10/5): Muy recomendable. - Genial.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice chill house in Santa Teresa. The rooms are cleaned every day.
We liked it very much and would come back one day.
- Diego (10/5): - The property manager Joel, is spectacular! The access to the property is suited for 4x4 vehicles, paking might be complicated.
- CarlosSing (8/5): - I really enojyed the calm and peace i got in this place.
The parking space is tricky and might require some strategic management even if you drive a 4x4 because of the ammounts of vehicles there. i arrived at 1am and there was no space available, so I had to left my car inthe steet.
- Pongkhi (10/5): Lovely place! - Stunning place! Had a wonderful stay!! Thank you!
- Jeff (8/5): - Liked the loft room's secluded location with balcony and hanging bed overlooking the jungle and pool area. Also the shower with large window view of the tropical plants was pretty nice, but had to play with the shower water temperature. Queen bed was on the firm side but comfortable. You need to be nimble on a steep ladder to access the loft's twin bed section. A/C functioned well and the kitchenette with 2 burner stove, mini fridge, plates and utensils served our needs. The minor drawback was the 400 meter uphill climb from the beach to the house. Easy with a 4 wheel drive, but could be a challenge if you are walking with a load. You could also hear any vehicles making their way up that hill by the house - though far less busy than the beach road below. Staff is very friendly. Enjoyed our stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Pretty amazing and unique even though it is missing some things that others have like a restaurant and breakfast, still worth it. It offers a kitchen to cook in.
- melissa (10/5): - This place is seated on a steep grade hill almost as a tree top bungalow. Spotless
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It’s a breathtaking visit in the forest. Would come back for the views
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful property just up the hill and away from the liveliness of Santa Teresa. It was refreshing as a gay couple to stay somewhere where we were completely welcome and even made friends with another Lesbian couple staying at Canaima at the same time. Really lovely pool and super helpful staff.
- Yuniel (10/5): Magical stay - Honestly by far the best experience I’ve ever had with the staff at the hotel & the locals as well, definitely plan on making a return visit to The Canaima Chill House & also Santa Teresa! I really have nothing negative to say it was an absolutely amazing trip & stay. Thank you!
- Kaleigh (10/5): - The hotel was beautiful in the middle of the rainforest. Super clean and gorgeous architecture. The shower was my favourite. The hotel itself is up a hill but we rented ATV’s for the night which were delivered to our door. Juan was super accommodating and was happy to help with all of our needs. Would definitely go back.
- MH (4/5): - The pictures really looked great and we were very excited about our stay ....the Rooms were nice...big panorama windows in bedroom and shower .... and clean.....but everything is starting to get a bit dated... it shows that no one is taking care of details ....our bathroom sink was only dripping, not useable at all ...the kitchen is missing quite some items, the coffee maker should be updated to a half decent one.....unfortunately the outside area with the pool, hot tub and the relax area was really dirty and not taken care off.... it’s quite dusty from the road so you need to clean the glass tables, floor etc once a day at least and also the pool and hot tub which was not done and it showed ....the staff was very friendly and helpful...just missing the xtra training and some motivation to make that a great experience. ....also it was pleasing enough to have enjoyed the stay ...it was far from exceptional and excellent....I guess this is due too poor management ....all in all I would not recommend it... which is sad it could be a great place ...
- Verified traveler (4/5): Clean Room - uphill walk from beach - Room is small with no bathroom door; no noise proofing between rooms - left/right and up/down. First night was so loud, we couldn't sleep. Left next day to get some sleep somewhere else.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Rest your head - This hotel looked way cuter in photos then it actually was.
It is a good hike away from the beach and amenities so if you don’t have a car really think about it.
The room was very basic in person, the photos online made it look much nicer then it was.
I used it for a place and to sleep and my trip was quick, if you are spending a lot of time in Santa Teresa I would not recommend it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Experience - It definitely is a beautiful place. We loved it and are planning to go back again.
