Guest Reviews
- Steven (10/5): - Clean, friendly and convenient
- Cory (10/5): Pet friendly - very pet friendly, clean rooms, Sandy is super awesome, thank you!
- Robyn (10/5): Labor Day Weekend - The Feathered Star was very comfortable and homey. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The made from scratch breakfast bakery was delicious. The owner was very kind and personable. Breakfast at the Rusty Tractor next door is also a very good option.
- lynn (10/5): - I would stay again
- Scott (10/5): - We really liked the grounds and areas for pets to exercise. The breakfast was excellent and included, we couldn't of been happier.
- James (4/5): Needs updating - Owner is very nice but this place needs work. The bedroom was ok but so many old items and cobwebs. When we first entered it smelled bad but our room was ok and decided to stay. The gathering areas had the smell. The carpet really needs replacing. She was getting new dining room chairs which is good as some duck taped together. The porch needs a good power washing and some light sockets did not have light bulbs in them. This could be a very nice place if just had more upgrading. We were only ones there and was quiet. All on main level so that’s good. Breakfast was fruit juice coffee and muffins and cereal.
- Lionel (6/5): - Nice house, friendly staff, everything was clean, but it is a pet friendly house so it smelt from pets
- Lynn (10/5): - Nice, clean, quiet, friendly property, close to things, but also in its own space.
- Connie (8/5): - I was disappointed with the continental breakfast as most B & B's have a full breakfast.
- Joseph (10/5): - Very nice people and nice quiet facility
- JOAN (10/5): - We really liked that it was in a great setting but yet convenient to the city of Egg Harbor. We enjoyed the coffee and continental breakfast before heading out for the day. Nice homey feel and the room was nicely decorated. Very comfortable beds, too!
- Catherine (10/5): - Very accommodating! Cozy, comfortable, friendly place! Highly recommend! Thanks so much! Close to all the attractions! And, reasonably priced!
- Michael (10/5): - Quaint, homey, felt like a home away from home.
Very pet friendly. Put me at ease. A truly relaxed feeling.
- DANIEL (10/5): - Nice rooms, pet friendly. The owner is very friendly and makes you feel like family. We will definitely book here again!
- Heather (8/5): - We travel with a fur baby ( our shihtzu) so we needed a pet friendly place while vacationing in Door County WI.
This B & B had good reviews and photos looked nice online. When we arrived to check in, we noticed right away the outside of the house and front door is dirty and sort of unkept. The bushes and such are definitely in need of help to make the property look neater and nicer. When we walked in, we immediately noticed the strong smell of Old, damp and musty. The carpet throughout looks very old and seems slightly damp. There was a big spider cobweb in our room and dust on the furniture.
The breakast offered is "Continental" which consists of cut up fruit and a home baked coffee cake type item each morning and regular or decaf coffee. Some juices were also set out along with mini boxes of cereal. The inn keeper Sandra was a super sweet lady though. She made the homemade items each morning which was so lovely.
She also asked several times if we had everything we needed etc. And she loved on our sweet shy pup which was sweet. I have allergies, I found that I began wheezing and having some extra allergic issues after getting checked in so I know there must be some issues there with allergens etc.
Overall, the 2 day/2 night stay was alright.
If the flooring was updated and the Inn got a heavy duty cleaning and refresh and the outside got a good washing and landscaping done, it would be much nicer in our opinion.
We would seek other accommodations on our next visit.
- Scott (10/5): Lovely B&B With Everything You Need - Loved staying here on our stay in Door County. The innkeeper was very friendly, professional and accommodatimg to our requests. The suite was comfortable with a fireplace, large bathroom and comfy bed, sheets and pillows. We had our own door to the outside. Continental breakfast was a different homemade bakery item and different fresh fruit each morning, with assorted teas, coffee, cereal and milk. Being pet friendly, you would never know it... no smell or dog hair at all. The location is a few miles from downtown Egg Harbor and only 30 minutes to any other community in Door County. I would recommend staying here if you are ever in the area and looking for a nice place to stay.
- Gregory (10/5): - Perfect
- joanne (10/5): - Sandy was a delightful host. I came for biking on the backroads and they were near the hotel. Room good size. Will stay there again.
- Tina (10/5): - Very nice place, charming, comfortable and clean, very nice host
- Lucy (8/5): Nice - Great host, it's pet friendly. But you may hrar a bark or two.
- Ralph (6/5): - When I pulled into the parking lot, it looked like an abandoned property. I thought I had come to the wrong place. Not attractive.
- Ceci (10/5): - The hostess very congenial and welcoming. A very pleasant stay.
- Mark (8/5): - The property was very nice. Room was great. Everything was clean and organized. Would definitely consider staying again.
- Gary (10/5): - We found out at the last minute that we had to take our dog. Luckily it is very, very pet friendly. Although pet friendly it did not smell of pets. Sandy is a great hostess and the homemade breakfast was always delicious.
- emilbY5101FC (10/5): Wonderful experience - We spent three great days here. Our room was large, attached bathroom, nice closet and fireplace. The bed was so comfy. We didn't bring our fur-baby but all the rooms have direct access to the outside to accommodate them. Sandra has a wonderful place that we loved and hope to return. While in the area you must eat at Alexanders (was out of this world) and stop for a brew at One Barrel for some of their own brew.
- Mark (10/5): - Friendly homeowner/manager, nice location - not right in town, but much more affordable than most other places.
Surprisingly quiet, despite other guests being present.
House has two 'wings' of rooms, very rural location. Nice patio/porch outside some if not all rooms.
I did NOT stay for breakfast, as I raced off to play pickleball (Sunset Park, Sturgeon Bay) each day.
- Kayla (10/5): - Quaint, beautiful property with lovely accommodations and a delicious, homemade breakfast.
- Terry (10/5): - Our host was very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our stay.
- karen (10/5): - It was a great place to bring your furry friends. She loves animals. We had a
- LaurelNixon (10/5): A hidden gem - Most comfortable bed ever. Rooms are appointed with handmade quilts and antique decor. Continental breakfast was included. Our dog was made to feel at home. Things we loved: The Feathered Star is a welcome change from the in-town vacation crowd, very peaceful and restful. Not a great choice for families with children - perfect for couples with dogs. Wish there was a king bed available, but otherwise checked all of the boxes.
- Dorota (10/5): - Personal touches, great host, friendly.
- Douglas (10/5): - It was nice to meet other people and talk with them.
Sandy, the owner, was great. A nice homemade breakfast each morning and very accommodating to special requests.
- Patricia (10/5): - Really enjoyed everything about staying here. I especially enjoyed being in a quiet area, away from all the tourists. The owner is very kind. I have many dietary restrictions and told her I was fine with fruit, but she made me muffins without gluten or eggs.
- cmfdaniels (10/5): A very enjoyable stay - The Feathered Star proved to be an excellent place to stay. It’s easily located, right on Hwy 42 but not at all noisy. Parking is easy, as is check-in. All the rooms are thoughtfully designed to be accessible with both an outside and inside entrance, wide doors and larger bathrooms. It’s very charming with pretty gardens, porches, antiques and local paintings. The place is pet friendly but very clean too.
Sandy is a great host and provides fresh delicious warm bakery items, along with fruit, cereal and beverages for the continental breakfast. When we needed to check out a day early, Sandy was able to book our room and didn’t charge the extra night. We highly recommend the Feathered Star for your next visit to Door County.
- Yukiko (8/5): - Our room was nicely furnished, comfortable, and dog friendly.
- 485jerib (2/5): Don't do it. - We left the Feathered Star without spending the night. The entire place smelled of cat urine. The carpets were old and dirty. The room and bathroom were good sized but hot and smelled bad. We asked about air conditioning and was told it was kept at 73, felt like 80. The owner's dogs barked all the time. She was very overbearing with our little border collie pup, constantly getting in her face and hugging on her. All of the furniture and woodwork in the building was old and musty smelling. The property was not kept up at all, overgrown. There were dirty cat litter scoops left on the porches meant for us to fling poo in the field. What was I thinking? Maybe we could have stuck it out if it wasn't for the heat and the smell. We drove 4 hours to get there, spent the day in beautiful door county, paid the 168 for the night to avoid staying the 3 nights booked and drove back home. This place definitely needs some professional cleaning.
- Sheldon (10/5): Pleasant, clean and comfortable - It was all good, and very convenient to attractions in Egg Harbor and Fish Creek
- Kasey (6/5): - This is listed as a bed and breakfast, it’s more like a bed and snack. First off the property. It’s nice, but not well kept. It’s clean and all of that just leaves a little to be desired would be better if maybe there was some games or something setup there. The house, it’s clean but dated. Not like cool this is retro, more like going to grandmas house. The bed squeaks, not fun time squeak like you look at it and the springs squeak. The tv is small, but not there for the tv. The bathroom is nice. It was very clean, can’t stress that enough. Then breakfast, or the snack time. There is coffee, juice in bottles, some cut fruit, and whatever is baked for the day. When I was there she had muffins one day and zucchini bread the next day. Don’t expect to eat great while there.
- Brandon (10/5): The feathered star is worth it - Ir read a few reviews that mentioned a smell I did not notice one. My room was clean and tidy. the host was really nice and accommodating. It is wonderful that she lets dogs visit and she is a dog lover herself. her dogs do bark but you dont hear them in your room. the continental breakfast was really yummy. The only thing I think I would criticize is the electronics are a bit dated but you dont go on vacation to lay in bed and watch tv so it is a really small thing.
- Rosemary (8/5): - We were allowed to have our dogs on the property. The common area was nice.
- 72maryjod (10/5): A wonderful stay in the fall! - Really a nice place to stay. The bedrooms and bathrooms were large, very clean and tastefully furnished. Each room included a gas fireplace which was wonderful. The continental breakfast included fresh bakery items. And the dogs were very welcome guests!
- Lawrence (10/5): - Loved our stay
- Ralph (10/5): Great Place, Great Location - We had a very nice stay at Feathered Star B&B. The owner was extremely friendly and made some special recommendations to more fully enjoy our stay. The property is large, pretty quiet, and well located for the many things to do in Door County, and the fact that they are extremely dog friendly was great (but know that many of the restaurants in the area are not so friendly to pets). I'd definitely stay here again.
- Patricia Zimmerman (8/5): - The experience was overall good. Homemade muffins and fruit for breakfast were delicious. I did not realize the Inn was pet friendly and although I like dogs l would prefer an animal free room. Great read’s in the shared area. The covering on my bed had yellow stains on the reverse side and ceiling fan was dusty. Friendly owner!
- Lowell (2/5): - Property was bad, blue tarp on roof. Unmowed grass everywhere. Dogs in the house barking like crazy. Whole house smelled like dogs. The couple that was with us and ourselves refused to stay there. She charged us for one night. Very, very bad!!!! We would like a refund. And you should not book for her!!!
- Kristine (8/5): - I like the way that it was decorated. It was very cozy. And the room was nice and large. It was nice to be able to go right out the door to our car too when we wanted to.
- George (10/5): - Wonderful experience.
- Jean (8/5): - The rooms were lovely, quaint but with modern conveniences. The room was clean but unfortunately there was a faint dog/cat smell permeating. I know pets are allowed though.
- Mary (8/5): - The owner was very friendly and easy to talk to and made us feel very welcome. The location close enough to what we wanted to do without the crowds of being in one of the towns.
- florencia (10/5): - My husband and I felt at home. Place was clean, quiet, warm, and cozy. Sandy and Eli were friendly and accommodating, had nice conversations with them. Simple breakfast, enough to fill you up to start the day.
We highly recommend this for a place to stay in Door County, a pet friendly place, too.
- Leslie (2/5): - The whole house smelled like wet dog. It was clean just old and smelly
- Nancy54819 (10/5): A great B & B experience! - We were pleasantly welcomed into our room and found it to be very comfortable. Exceptionally large room with nice bathroom -- all clean and spotless. I was a bit prepared for the possibility of pet odors (we don't have one) since the premises is dog friendly. But I can honestly say there was not even slight evidence, either in odor or pet hair. Our room was quiet and we wouldn't have guessed there were other guests if we hadn't noticed vehicles in the parking lot when we went left in the morning. Sandy was a wonderful hostess and provided a nice continental breakfast. We will definitely stay here again.
- John (10/5): Good place to stay for taking the sites in the sit - This affordable clean and friendly B&B is centrally located in Door County that allows you to get to the the best parks and golf courses. Comfortable bed and accommodations and good breakfast make this a must stay for families on a budget.
- MKE_jazzfan (10/5): Charming, clean and welcoming! - Great to find a B&B that's cozy, dog friendly AND close to so many things to do in Door County. Sandy is a wonderful hostess! The room was super clean -- ours had a separate entrance with a deck overlooking the nearby farm, which made taking a stroll with Max (our standard poodle) super easy. And we loved the mowed walking trail behind the yard. Looking forward to visiting again soon!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very pleasant place to stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner's Dogs greeted us from the roof a couple of times which was unique. The building design and details make it look like an old farmhouse that was added onto. Each room has access to an outdoor porch area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property was beautiful. The owner and her son were kind and attentive to guests and their needs and knew the names of guests and their dogs. She also made breakfast fresh each morning and asked if we had any dietary restrictions upon arrival. It was a very nice, unique stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable bed & breakfast. Also very friendly and convenient to all the bays.
- Michelle M. (4/5): If you’re a “Dog Person….” - The location was more remote than anticipated. Although Sandy was great I don’t understand why, when she had rooms available when we first spoke, she put me and my boyfriend in a room with two twin beds….
Our room
Was spacious and clean but clearly accommodated people with dogs. There were dog decor EVERYWHERE. Chew marks on the furniture. Carpeting ripped/clawed. Not at all what we expected.
We were told a buffet breakfast would be served. Muffins and cut up fruit and coffee. Again, not what we expected for over $170/night.
We arrived late on the first night of our two night stay. Went to town to eat. Slept and left the following morning
Be sure you know what you are getting clearly before choosing this arrangement
- Jeffrey W. (8/5): Door Co. Trip - Very nice property and friendly service. Clean, good location for Sturgeon Bay and Egg Harbor trips. Breakfast muffins were great!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Underwhelming - The owner of the bed & breakfast was a friendly woman. However, upon arrival to the bed & breakfast, my husband and I were greeted by a barking dog on the roof that was unwelcoming. Being that the establishment is pet friendly, there is an odor within. The exterior of the house was quite unkempt with snow shovels being left out, as well as dirt and spiderwebs being quite visible. Furthermore, the location of the bed & breakfast is on the outskirts of Egg Harbor, not in Egg Harbor which was disappointing. Overall, I was underwhelmed with my stay.
- Yeowzah (8/5): Adorable B&B in Door County, Wisconsin where Fido is welcome. - Last year during Covid our trip was a little different, but nevertheless, an enjoyable time. Basecamp was The Feathered Star Bed and Breakfast. Tucked off the highway, the delightful Fido-friendly B&B served as our home away from home for all of our adventures. Of special note is that each room has a door leading to the outside. Brilliant plan for taking Fido out for walks and potty breaks. Located in Egg Harbor Township, six miles south of the village of Egg Harbor on three acres, The Feathered Star Bed and Breakfast, rolls out the red carpet for both you and your dog while adhering to social distancing and CDC policy. Normally there is a continental breakfast in the dining room (does not include eggs or meat) which is served each day, however during Covid, we were provided with breakfast to take back with us to our room. Rooms are cozy with historic antiques, fireplace and also include a small refrigerator.
- loves_lindsay (10/5): Beautiful little B&B - I really enjoyed my stay here. Very cute and quaint B&B. I was especially pleased that they allow pets and have no breed restrictions. I travel with my pitbull all the time and we felt very welcomed here. We will be back!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hospitality was wonderful. Room was spacious. Delicious breakfast.
- Julie (8/5): - Great location but noisy as we were next to the dining room
- C4246FCgracem (10/5): Right off the main road - This little gem is right off highway 42 and near shopping and the door county trolley. Each room has a theme. Rooms are larger than many hotel rooms with a spacious bathroom. Owner is passionate about being pet- friendly and wheelchair accessible. Breakfast is continental. But home made muffins. A bowl of chopped fruit. A selection of juices. Fresh coffee. She tries to accommodate food allergies.
A homey place.
- Grace (10/5): - It’s an older home with lots of character. The owner takes pride in the continental breakfast. Muffins are homemade. Fruit salad. Coffee or tea. Variety of juices.
The rooms have a switch on fireplace. Nice size with ample bathroom as well.
- F00die342 (2/5): Unless your dog needs a place to stay... - Summary: This place caters to dogs and the Inn Keeper (the property doesn’t qualify as a B&B) is in over her head. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but in this case I feel compelled given the website is misleading and in some cases false. I'll simply comment from the perspective of what we experienced. First, this place is not located in Egg Harbor; it’s about 6 miles away. The three acres of land are not beautiful; they are actually very overgrown and weedy and littered with assorted "stuff" - looks like nobody has pulled a weed in years. The weeds were so high outside of our windows that when you closed them you couldn't help but close some of the weeds inside. The "central dining room and gathering facilities" consist of a dining room table situated on a dirty floor, adjacent to a sitting room that is heavy on dog hair and light on appeal. (The dining room table also doubles as the office.) The scent of dog urine that greeted us at the front entrance continued through these rooms and down the hall into our guest room. Now for the guest room...dog hair adorned our floor, the windows had not been cleaned for a very long time, and there was a streaked, muddy hand print on the window of the door leading to the back porch deck, where a hornet's nest hung overhead and weeds grew up through the porch stairs and decking. The porch area and entire exterior of the property in general was very dirty and needs to be professionally cleaned. Treated to a flashback TV-viewing experience, the “electronics” consist of a small tube TV (yes, CRT) and a VHS player. (I won’t mention the cassette player.) Breakfast doesn’t really exist...not in the real food sense anyways. Boxed cereal & muffins are on the menu but no hot food or protein. The coffee was not good and I expect that’s partly a result of the coffee maker it came from. Oh and the resident dogs...don’t count on a restful, quiet awakening in the morning; be ready for those dogs barking INSIDE the property as we experienced. Also, with the dogs in the house in the morning, just your presence as you exit through the front entrance invokes a vicious, behind-the-door attack by the dogs. And yes, as some have commented, this place is a bit creepy.
- bonniet237 (10/5): A "Girls Getaway" with my dog - I was looking for a dog-friendly place to stay for my "girls getaway" with my dog. We could not have asked for a better place! Sandy was a wonderful hostess, and her son Eli took a special interest in me and my dog. The room was very comfortable, and we had everything we needed - including an outside door for quick walks. It is an easy trip into Egg Harbor and Fish Creek.
- 843mariannei (8/5): What a pleasure! - I was very apprehensive because we traveled with our fairly large dog. As soon as we got there, Sandy sat down on the floor and met Cooper and it was great. The room was very comfortable and clean. The grounds are great especially if you bring a pet. Most impressive of all is that there is windmill right in the middle of the property. This was a really nice experience, it's just about 10 minutes out of town, very quiet and you couldn't ask for a better hostess.
- chgolee (8/5): Cozy and pet friendly - We had always wanted to see Door county, so we visited in August this year.
The Feathered Star B&B was a good value so we booked it.
We thought it was a great place, with comfortable rooms and a warm, inviting atmosphere. It may be South of Egg Harbor, but it is right off the main road on the Bay side. A 10 minute or less drive gets you into downtown Egg Harbor. Also, it is right by a good winery/ distillery.
After booking we realized it is pet friendly, so the dog came with us. The rooms have bothan interior and exterior door. The exterior door gave easy access to the large dog run and exercise area.
Sandy had fresh baked Blueberry muffins one morning and a great homemade coffee cake the next morning. Nothing like fresh pastry to go with your morning coffee.
We will book here again on our next trip to the area, with or without the dog.
- johnelrog (6/5): not really in egg harbor - satisfactory stay. spacious room, clean, friendly hostess. breakfast is sketchy but ok. old fashioned bedding (heavy quilt/bedspread). pet friendly also.
should have investigated the actual location more before booking. although the mailing address is egg harbor, it's really far south of the village, so don't expect to stroll thru town after you check in.
- Traveling_Circus84 (8/5): Great Budget and Pet-Friendly B&B - We come to Door County nearly ever summer for the 4th of July. For 3 or 4 trips, we have stayed at the Feathered Star B&B with our dogs.
The innkeeper is a doll and VERY patient with dogs. She's very accommodating and always gives great recommendations for around town.
The rooms are clean and she doesn't even mind if you let your pups run around while she cleans.
Breakfast is always solid, but there are some store bought products there and I wish I could get a little more protein at breakfast.
However, for the price and service, you really can't go wrong with this pet-friendly B&B! We will be repeat visitors once again this fourth of July!
- kens488 (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE FOR ANY REASON - I don't know who is writing reviews for this place, it has to be the owner.. I would never stay here ever, I would stay in my car before I stayed here.. from the minute you walk in the door.. you almost throw up from the smell of dog urine. It is so strong I was gagging. The woman is a bit strange but her son is even more strange. The room was sick.. I almost left.. The sheets are all stained. The towels in the room are yellow. The smell of the urnine comes through the vents to the room and so you smell it no matter where you are. In fact I could smell it days after I left. The ants are everywhere. Please Please dont stay here.. you will be sick. It is the worst place I have ever stayed in my life. Run if you see the sign.
- Ezfill (10/5): A great spot and great hosts - My wife and daughter traveled here last fall with our two flatcoats. They found this B&B
On the web are were ecstatic. Most places don't allow dogs, have a weight limit or put you in a smoking room when you've never smoked in your life.
This summer my wife took me and a 12 year old and a 1 year old flatcoats puppy on a return visit. I had never been to Door County before. The Feathered Star was a treat.
The rooms were very nicely appointed, adequate in size and nice showers. Sandy has an electric windmill which makes her property almost energy independent. The facility is clean, well kept and both human and dog friendly.
It's a short drive to Egg Harbor and we made the loop to the end of the penninsula in July, picked delicious cherries and had mostly great meals out.
The continental breakfast Sandy makes is adequate, but if you need meat and potatoes in the am you'll need to do that next door at the close restaurant.
I wish there were more friendly clean dog loving places like that. We will be back. We will stay again. The negative reviews are not factual. I have been a dentist for 33 years and learned I can't please everyone all the time.
If you don't stay here you missed out, and if you have a pet, you screwed up.
- bandb851 (10/5): FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH A B & B - The Feathered Star is a place that we would definitely stay at again. Everything was lovely inside and out. Our room was quite large, very unique and super clean. Our dog had plenty of room to run around outside. The breakfast consisted of fresh baked homemade muffins, fruit, cereal, coffee, and juice (which was enough for us to eat). Would definitely recommend staying there if visiting Egg Harbor.
- WheelsUp589 (10/5): Pet Friendly B&B that's a great value - We were looking for a place in the Egg Harbor area to spend two nights, and many places were sold out or had a three night minimum. At The Feathered Star we were able to get a great room for two nights and bring the dogs for only $10 per night extra, which was an unbelievable bargain. The room was large, had a fridge and a nice two person sized shower, and a door to the outside directly from the room so we could walk our dogs without disturbing others. The breakfast coffee cake, breads and fruit made for a nice treat each morning. Sandy was always ready to help, very informative and warm, and a real pleasure to stop by and chat with on our way to and from the inn. She even offered to dig up raspberry plants from her garden and send them home with me (I forgot to pick them up on the way out :-( ). She also took the time to get to know our dogs as soon as we arrived and it's obvious she genuinely cared for their welfare.
The location might seem a bit far away from Egg Harbor (it's only a few minutes), but the upside is that it's away from the crowds and it's magical to walk outside at night and see the Milky Way and all the stars. We'd definitely stay there again!
