Guest Reviews
- Julien (9/5): -
- susan (8/5): Great experience and one we will remember. - The setting was exceptional. The view of Mount Fuji, the gardens and lake were spectacular! The onsen was incredibly relaxing and the outdoor onsen had a garden like atmosphere. Having the Yukatavto wear to and from the onsen made the experience feel authentic. The rooms are spacious with awesome views but very dated. The menu was disappointing and repetitive. It was a difficult stay for our party of four due to the language barrier as there was no staff member that was even marginally proficient in English. Even with these criticisms, we loved the property and our stay at Hotel de Yama and are so happy to have had this very authentic Japanese experience without being in a Ryokan. The staff was friendly and professional. We would stay there again and recommend.

- Claire (9/5): - Onsen, meals, view (spectacular view of Mt Fuji one morning); staff were very pleasant and helpful. it was nice to have both french and japanese meal options, and both were excellent for both breakfast and lunch.
- Kyoko (7/5): -
- Dspaizman (9/5): Would highly recommend for your stay in the hakone area. - Ground of the hotel are stunning. Azaleas and Rhododendrons were in bloom making for a dramatic view against the lake and mount fuji backdrop. Onsen was large, well equipped, clean. Staff was spectacular. Shuttle to Motohakone was were frequent and comfortable. Restaurant options were limited for those with dietary preferences or restrictions and breakfast ended around 9:30.

- SUZANNE (7/5): - Comfortable Location far from anywhere
- Annette (9/5): A great start to our three week Japan trip - Loved the Onsen, the view and the food was amazing. Compared to other hotels I found the lack of very basic english from the front desk staff, a slight problem
- Ashaben Mukesh (10/5): Fuji trip - Fantastic location and wonderful large room size. Lighting in room could have been better...but not a deal breaker.
I would definitely come back for a longer stay.

- Neil (8/5): Lovely traditional hotel in fabulous setting but food offerings lack choice and are expensive. - Great location set in lovely gardens. The hotel is a little tired but is a traditional hotel of high quality. Very large rooms with great views of the garden. Great, helpful and welcoming staff. Good quality food including breakfast. Fixed multi-course menu including breakfast offering, Japanese or Western (no a-la-carte or buffet alternatives). Quite expensive drinks and evening meals with no alternative place to eat or drink nearby.
- Hiroshi (7/5): -
- Homa (6/5): Mixed experience - The view and location of the hotel are good. The food options, overpriced in general, felt very dry and not welcoming, The majority of guests are 60+ couples.
- ling (9/5): Very relax, - Spacious, clean, friendly, food If they offer the shuttle from odawara station, that will be great! And customer pay for the tickets
- Julia (10/5): Lovely hotel in stunning setting - We really loved our stay here: the room was very clean; the staff were really friendly and polite; the food in the restaurant (we ate at the French restaurant) was excellent and the view from the hotel terrace and beautiful garden was stunning, with its lakeside setting. We loved everything about this hotel.
- Juergen (8/5): - Beautiful situated hotel. Great Onsen. Nice staff. The rooms could be renovated.
Typically for Japan set Menu for breakfeast instead og buffet 😑
Jardin exceptionnel
- Nigel (10/5): -
- Pratik (9/5): - Fabulous onsen experience, great amenities, amazing breakfast view
- Elizabeth (9/5): Com exceção do café, foi otima - O hotel é lindo. A vista maravilhosa. Tivemos a visão do monte Fuji perfeitamente.
O banho(ousen) maravilhoso Do café da manhã. A la carte
- CHERYL (6/5): Beautiful location. Average stay. - It’s in a good location, an easy 15 minute stroll to Motohakone port. Fabulous view of mt Fuji from the gardens, which are also lovely. Good onsen. Shuttle bus to the port. It has a 1970s vibe, all beige and brown, rather formal, quite old fashioned. We joked it felt like being in a posh retirement home. Quite battered looking in some areas, needing a good spruce up. The breakfast is a set plate - No buffet or much choice. Although younger staff were pleasant enough, some were a bit hapless in dinner and breakfast service. The restaurant manager was really quite rude, and there was a marked difference in how he greeted Japanese guests and tourists (something we hadn’t experienced in the previous 3 weeks of our tour of Japan). Locally it was difficult to find anywhere to eat dinner after 7 pm.
- Guest (7/5): -
- Piet (8/5): -
- Amir (7/5): - Great location near the lake, we could see mountain Fuji from there. Also liked the onsan Bad smell in the room and few location where not maintained very much
- Nicolas (8/5): -

- CHE-CHIA (10/5): -
- Charlie (8/5): Well run, easy place to stay - The excellent service when there was a hacking attempt ..and excellent responsiveness when we had to change the dates of our booking. I am extremely appreciative to the hotel.
The gardens were also lovely. Breakfast would have been better as a buffet. The breakfast was the same two days in a row. More fruit would have been good.
The bar should be open after 830/9pm on a Friday night
- Jacqueline (10/5): Comfortable solo stay with beautiful views & relaxing onsen - I chose this hotel for its proximity to Lake Ashi and the Hakone Shrine Tori gate, and the public onsen with open-air bath (women only). The hotel has old world traditional charm and elegance. My room had a lovely view of the garden and lake from the window. Had the Japanese dinner option which was well varied, and I felt adventurous getting to try a sea snail for the first time. If you book this hotel with the dinner option, ensure that you communicate with the hotel staff with plenty of time ahead of your visit to reserve a time. Most places close very early in Hakone, so I felt the dinner option at the hotel was worth it. Chose the French restaurant for breakfast, which had a smaller, limited selection, but was satisfying. For others' awareness, several of the staff do not speak English, which personally made for a fun experience of getting to try out the Japanese I studied. Everyone was kind and helpful. The onsen was very calming and great to try if you want to become acquainted with Japanese onsen culture, just make sure you follow the guidelines to maintain a clean and calming environment for everyone (no clothing in the baths area, shower thoroughly before enjoying a dip in the hot spring baths, tie up your hair, etc) There are plenty of amenities available, including hair bands, shower caps, hair brush, etc, and stations to dry your hair after the bath. The shuttle is very convenient and I made use of it to get to the hotel from Motohakone Port (bus stop #6 next to the pirate ship area) and to get back to town to catch a bus to Hakone-Yumoto Station. Though it was one of the pricier stays in my trip itinerary, it was an excellent stay and I have no complaints!
- Siu (10/5): Excellent and relaxing stay. Highly recommended - Near lake and shrine. Location is great. Ample parking. Shuttle and normal bus if you don’t drive. Nothing. Place is great
- dirk (10/5): Nothing short of exceptional - My stay at the Odakyu Hotel de Yama was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the serene atmosphere and the hotel’s stunning location overlooking Lake Ashi with breathtaking views of Mount Fuji.
The rooms were large, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, offering both comfort and elegance. It was the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring the Hakone area. Waking up to such beautiful scenery right outside the window made the experience even more memorable.
Breakfast was another highlight of the stay, fresh, delicious, and with a great variety of options to start the day right. Enjoying a morning meal while taking in the peaceful lake views was truly special.
What really sets this hotel apart is its incredible setting. The panoramic views of the lake and Mount Fuji are simply unforgettable and create a sense of tranquility that is hard to match.
I would highly recommend Odakyu Hotel de Yama to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with beautiful surroundings, excellent accommodations, and top-quality service. Nothing
- Diana (10/5): - Tout! L'emplacement le onsen les repas surtout.
- Charlotte (10/5): - The vue is incredible
Bravo!
- Amy (9/5): -
- samuel (9/5): a lovely, relaxing escape away from any hustle and bustle - the onsen was fantastic, the gardens were beautiful and the location on the edge of Ashi lake and close to the shrine were amazing. not the easiest to get to without a car
- rmorris (8/5): A very pleasant hotel. We'd have enjoyed it more had it not been pouring with rain most of the time - A comfortable hotel surrounded by extensive gardens. Unfortunately, we were too early for the azaleas and rhododendrons' to be in bloom. It must be spectacular when they are.
- YU LUNG (10/5): -
- Poh Keng (9/5): Holiday away from city - Good view of the lake and can see Mt Fuji.Staff was great, especially the shuttle bus drivers. There's public bath in the hotel. Location is on the hill, tough to walk down to town, especially for old people.Good that they have shuttle buses plying to and fro.
- Helewa (9/5): Hakone was beautiful - a little out of the way for a single overnight, but worth a visit for anyone - Every room views the lake, and the room was spacious and cozy. One could make a day of just relaxing in the room overlooking the garden and the lake, taking in meals, onsen time, or a walk by the lake along the stone paths. The town closes at 5, and we arrived late. Food options were limited to 7-Eleven in town, or room service sans a reservation to one of the hotel restaurants. Planning dinner ahead of time is a must.
- Kate (9/5): A serene, calm, comfortable place to stay. I would highly recommend it and hope we will be back. - Great views, stunning gardens, very comfortable room, wonderful onsen, delicious food. The staff were great, and a special mention to Tomoko, she was incredibly helpful and so charming and welcoming, nothing was too much bother for her and her English is faultless.
Many thanks. It is worth mentioning that if you want to eat on the evening you arrive, make a reservation in advance as they get booked up.
- Silia (8/5): Ein wunderbarer Ort mit tollem Service und Vintage-Flair. - Tolle vintage Atmosphäre. Fantastischer Garten und Onsen; das beste French Toast unseres Lebens. Hervorragender Service. Toller Blick auf den Mt. Fuji.

- hilary (10/5): Brilliant stay in great hotel - Lovely hotel in perfect location on the shore of a lake with magnificent views of Mt Fuji. Fabulous onsen
- Lisa (8/5): -
- Ian (9/5): Old Girl needs a makeover - Location, very helpful staff
Birthday Dinner Hotel is like a Grand Dame going a bit seedy
Needs refreshing to brighten it up
Silver Service breakfast but very limited choices and portion control is a no no in the modern 🌍
French toast is good
- Mathias (7/5): Good location, very hard beds - Beautiful location right next to the lake. On a clear day you can see Mount Fuji. Beds are very uncomfortable and hard.
- Keiko (6/5): Vackert läge. - Middagen var jätte gott, speciellt Sake. USB uttag på rummet var trasigt. Frukosten var för litet. Onsen var litet.

- hajime (10/5): -
- ClaireC91 (10/5): Pretty location - The hotel is in a nice setting and its an easy short walk to town. The staff are incredibly helpful. Our room was comfortable and the Onsen is a lovely experience.
- Paul (10/5): - Fantastic view of Lake Aisha and snow-covered Mount Fuji, with surrounding hills. Quiet, lovely setting. Very nice, separate thermal pools and saunas for women and men. Pretty rooms and building, with a helpful staff, make this a wonderful retreat within the Hakone hills.
- Christoffer (9/5): -
- Olivier (10/5): -
- Sue (10/5): Beautiful stay in a welcoming hotel with views and an onsen - Beautiful view of Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji. We were there in February, so the 3,000 azalea and rhododendron bushes were NOT in bloom, but it will be out of this world gorgeous when they bloom!!
Lovely onsen on site, cute robes and clothing to wear to and from the onsens.
Front desk staff SO helpful
Yummy breakfast with attentive staff restaurants in the nearby town close at 3:00 PM this time of year, so we had to drive a fair distance for dinners
- khchung (10/5): Great environment and meal and good onsen - Spacious room and good onsen. I have French cuisine for dinner and Japanese breakfast which were good. Free shuttle to nearby pier which is very convenient and within walking distance to the Shrine nearby. The room have garden view and small part of lake view. Nothing and would like to stay longer next time.
- Alexandre (10/5): Un excellent hotel à tous les niveaux : emplacement, propreté, onsen, restaurant. PARFAIT ! Tout !
