Guest Reviews
- Tereza (10/5): - We booked a stay with dinner and breakfast which were in traditional japanese style with multiple course meals, everything was absolutely delicious!
The hotel is on the main street, right in between some of the bath houses to which you get a pass also. The hotel also has its own onsen. There were yukatas and tea waiting for us in the room upon arrival. Staff was very friendly and attentice, we had a wonderful stay!
- Elina (9/5): Ryokan worth visiting - Lovely ryokan just by the river and onsen baths. The staff is very helpful and warm. The room was spacious.
The traditional breakfast was nice and we loved that it was different on the second day. Would recommend spending 2 nights, just to have enough time to relax and see all of the onsens as well as the lovely village and ropeway. The sound proofing is not excellent in old Japanese houses, which is understandable. The sliding shutters do not block light very well so have a sleep mask with you - or just rise with the sun and head to the onsen at 7am when they open.
- Anna (8/5): 11/10 Service - The staff were very attentive and selected staff had great english. They were all very kind and accomodating. The food was also prepared with care and well flavoured. We stayed in room 202 and had challenges going to sleep and were rudely awoken but stomping upstairs. We're not sure if the kitchen or other rooms were above us. The sound proofing between floors and the street are non existent which can be expected of a whole of this age but it was the worse Ive experienced in a ryokan or machiya
- Astrock (10/5): - The staff were helpful and approachable. The food was incredible. The accommodation was in the centre of town close to public onsens.
- Natalia (10/5): -
- Nicholas (10/5): - Perfect location. Traditional Japanese Ryokan accommodation in a lovely setting. The service and breakfast deserve a mention . Took a little bit of getting used to the customs and the bed on the floor but it's also what made it special. There is no bathroom in the room just a toilet and wash basin but if you make use of the onsens which you have a pass for then you shower in those anyway so don't need one in the room. There is a courtesy bus from outside the train station to hotel guests but it's only a ten minute walk past the local shops and bars/restaurants anyway. No complaints at all.
- Omar (10/5): -
- Lenka (9/5): - Very nice and super attentive staff. A cosy communal bath in the building plus you get a free pass for all the local onsen. We had breakfast and dinner included in the plan, with lots of traditional local dishes - just make sure you like fish/seafood :-)
Rien

- Lynden (10/5): A great immersive Japanese experience. - Beautiful accomodation. Great location. Staff were warm and welcoming.
- Issaree (9/5): - Great service, very clean place, right next to a public onsen, and the food looked amazing!
- Bridgeman (8/5): - The room was spacious and comfortable, the meal was wonderful and the staff very helpful and kind. Having access to a 24/7 Onsen was nice too. I wish I had access to a shower that wasn’t the shared shower/onsen space. After a long day of travel, a private shower would have been great, but that’s only included in limited special rooms.
- Gianmarco (10/5): -
- Aaron (10/5): Highly recommend - Very kind staff. They truly are invested in the comfort and happiness of their guests.
- Diana (10/5): - It is not a hotel, but an experience! The staff and accommodations were great. The hotel's onsen is tiny but serene and spotless. The hotel offered dinner, which was fantastic. We asked for certain alterations, and the personnel fulfilled our dietary need. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. Thank you!
Heerlijk avondmaal. Vriendelijke hotel medewerkers. We hebben genoten! Niets

- Laura (10/5): Relaxing and wonderful - The room was lovely and the staff were so accommodating and helpful. We had delicious meals in the dining room. We struggled walking in the slippers. They were quite slippery.
- Alyssa Ina (10/5): Memorable! Authentic Japanese experience - Exceptional stay! Ryokan experience was memorable. Thank you to the staff including satoru and susu! Your dedication to your work and to ensure our stay is comfortable with your english skills was truly helpful! Dinner was also perfect! Nothing!
- Hwee Yen (8/5): -
- Michelle (10/5): We highly recommend Kinosaki Yamamotoya! - The hospitality was exceptional!! The staff was beyond welcoming, courteous, helpful and kind. Communication was made easy, even though our Japanese is very limited. We especially enjoyed the artistry and elegant presentation of the kaiseki dinner and the beautiful description of each course.
This property rests on the main canal and is within walking distance of Kinosaki’s main street, all of the onsens, the ropeway to Mt. Daishi and also to the Buddhist temple, Gokurakuji.

- Stephen (9/5): - Location. Ambiance. Food. Slippers.
- Matthew (8/5): A well located ryokan, close to the public onsens and beautiful willow lined river. - The perfect location within the wonderful town of Kinosaki Onsen.
Great ryokan, located very close to 2 of the town's public onsens, as well as having its own private onsen and public onsen facilities. Also next door to a lovely restaurant, which they also own.
Serves only traditional Japanese breakfasts and dinner, which I did not have.
Traditional yakuta and shoes are provided for your use / wear across the whole town in your stay. That makes Kinosaki Onsen a very unique and fulfilling experience!
Lovely people working at the ryokan and very attentive and helpful. The traditional bed in the room was laid out on the reed flooring - we both found it to be very comfortable and it was our most challenging sleep of the trip.
The bathroom in the room was quite dated and certainly in need of an upgrade.
- David (10/5): LOOK NO FURTHER!!!!!! - The staff was absolutely fantastic! They were so kind intended to our ever in need. It was our first day in a Rycon and they explained everything very well.. we also love the location. It was perfect. We loved everything!
- Madison Taylor (10/5): Lovely spot located in the heart of Kinosaki with wonderful staff, facilities and food. - The staff, facilities and food were all incredible. Located in the middle of all the bath houses in town, it was a convenient location. The AC in our room was not very strong so the room was a little warmer.
- Viktoriia (9/5): -
- David (7/5): - The staff were very friendly and attentive and the location was handy right by the river. The room was very spacious with a toilet and bathtub and it was cleaned daily. The tatami mattress hurt my back after the second night and the chairs were not comfortable for a tall person like me, however, it was good to experience something new.
- Michael (9/5): Comfortable high-class Japanese ryokan experience - Staff and facilities were extraordinarily superb
- Yan Ting (10/5):
- Shirley (10/5): Kinosaki onsen 2N stay - We had a quiet room with peaceful , mountain view. They had a private onsen which may not as grand as the public ones but at least you have your own privacy. The staff was very polite & attentive and hence make our stay memorable. None
- Kym (8/5): - Nice looking property, restaurant next door was good, traditional breakfast was rather nice. I'm not really into the traditional style of bedding, but it was ok to sleep on. Having to leave your shoes at front and wearing the slippers was annoying, especially since they were so big on me. The stairs were steep, not good if you have hip/back problems.
- Wei Ting (8/5): -
Nichts
- Andrew (10/5): Traditional, friendly, and perfect - Extremely friendly staff, with great English skills. Plenty of amenities, and rooms were clean. Accommodated our request for a specific room, and demonstrated excellent hospitality in every interaction. Onsen within the building was excellent and equal to the other onsens of the town. The breakfast upstairs was excellent and felt traditional and exactly what we were hoping for while in Kinosaki. The restaurant next door (GabuGabi) was excellent as well, as were their brewed beer.
- Juan Luis (10/5): -
- Bernd (10/5): Wer die Tradition kennen lernen will, ist hier richtig! - Alles gut, sehr traditionell War alles in Ordnung
- Constantina (10/5): -
- Pedro (8/5): - Its excellent location in front of the river, and the quality of the onsens that the hotel has. Without any malicious intent, the hotel staff entered our room to remove the futon without consulting us. It would have been nice if they had consulted us beforehand.
- Yokoichi (8/5): -
- Rose (10/5): Perfect, relaxing and historical - Everything. The old wood and the sage green colours, the comfortable futon, the view from our window, the onsens, the hotels private onsen, the whole town, the ambiance of the while village, fresh seafood and the very accommodating staff. Nothing
- Marina (9/5): Perfect place to - Charming hotel, very comfortably situated on the main historic street. Lovely surroundings, quite and spacious rooms, very welcoming staff
- Jamey (10/5): Charming, relaxing onsen town accommodations in the center of Kinosaki. - The location is wonderful--right on the main road overlooking the river. It's a convenient walk to all parts of Kinosaki. The ryokan was very well kept, although a few features looked a bit dated. I didn't mind at all. The food was excellent, and the on-property onsen was remarkable--so elegant and restful. I have no negative feedback at all. It was wonderful.
- Toni (9/5): Superb -
- Alyce (10/5): Wonderful stay, will be back. - Beautiful place to stay and easy walk from the station. We arrived early and staff were accommodating by holding our bags for us until check in time. Check in was seamless for English speakers. Our bags were in our rooms ready for us. A lovely lady came to our rooms and delivered our Yakata and pot of tea. We only booked breakfast and we were given 2 times to choose from and as we were a group we ate in the dining room. Food was delicious. Would highly recommend this hotel.
- Uthaiwan (9/5): Good services - Good services & full facilities
- Anistatia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Agnieszka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexis (10/5): Exceptional - Great traditional Ryuken, loved sleeping on the futon beds. The staff were really lovely and accomodating - we had paid for dinner and breakfast but opted not to have it and they were very understanding. I regret not emailing them about to inform them sooner. Loved their own brewed beer.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place to stay in Kinosaki. Staff were amazing.
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Soo (8/5): Very good -
- Kelly (10/5): An incredible experience in the heart of Kinosakionsen - Incredible experience. The staff was so courteous and communicated well in English. They explained everything very well and the stay was the most incredible experience. The yukata were lovely. Would recommend again and again. Nothing, the stay was top notch.
- Claudia (10/5): Comfortable hotel in a very quaint cute town. - Very cool 300+ year old Ryokun. Staff very attentive, rooms are well kept. And generous size Slippers are hard to keep on the feet with all the stairs.
They brought I fresh hot water in a thermos, but only provided tea. Some coffee and a kettle would be nice for the mornings.
- Alex (10/5): Was exactly the relaxing break we needed. - The man who greeted us at the door was fantastic! He allowed us to change our preordered breakfast to meet our dietary requirements and was able to book us a private onsen. The woman who assisted us in our room, served us green tea upon entry and guided us with our yukata was perfect as well!
- Marija (10/5): Exceptional -
- Miyuki (10/5): Exceptional - Location was great Nothing
- Rumchawun (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Angela (10/5): Wonderful Ryokan Experience - It has been a wonderful ryokan experience. The ryokan is centrally located. The room is spacious and comfortable. The staff are friendly and attentive. The dining experience has also been wonderful. We are happy for experiencing the essence of Japanese hospitality at Yamamotoya.
- Stephanie (8/5): Very good - Service excellent If 4 pax stay in the room is small n tightly
- Russ (6/5): need to improve for a ryokan of this level. - location was just right, in the middle and easy to walk to the cable car plus restaurants and coffee shops, souvenir shops. These might seem like small things but they all add up and should be a lot better for this price and level of Ryokan. Pieces of the toothbrush split off in my mouth which could easily had got stuck in my throat (poor quality). Every Ryokan I have stayed at usually provides a hot water flask at check in which is useful (they did but later in the evening) so you can make tea or coffee when convenient. The wash basin didn't have a towel rack and hence no towel... useful if you are washing your hands or cleaning your teeth! We felt that the "service" was more robotic than genuine friendliness (dealing with the person manning the reception when asking a question later, they did the minimum), I contrast this ryokan with one I stayed at in Yudanaka during the same trip which given nearly the exact same price was superior in every way. The in house onsen was very small.
- Leah (9/5): Great stay! They loan you everything you need for exploring the onsen town! Loved it. - The traditional Japanese rooms were gorgeous. The staff convert them from a family room to a sleeping room for you. The Yukata and everything they loan you for the onsens is amazing. The dinner was not great.
- Anna (9/5): Superb -
- Hannahlynn (10/5): Exceptional - The hospitality was exceptional. Everyone was incredibly helpful and accomodating. The meals were delicious as well. Everything was great.
- Wl (8/5): Very good - Service was good. The staff were friendly and helpful, and moved our bags up and down to and from our rooms respectively since there were no lifts. Rooms were spacious. One of our rooms had a nice view facing the main street. Food could be improved on in terms of overall quality. It was okay but i was expecting to be even better. Onsen baths are on the smaller side and there was additional charge to book the private onsen.
- G (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Ashley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful food, and they catered for my food allergies really well. The in house onsen was small but beautiful. We only stayed the one night, wish we had stayed longer, but we were so happy to have our first ryokan experience. The futon were comfortable enough, and I loved the tea and our view of the rock cliff garden. I would visit both Kinosakionsen and this ryokan again. Just be careful with the house slippers, they were a bit small and slippery for our western feet!
- Brendan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Darren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful traditional ryokan with lovely helpful staff. We had a lot of fun dressing in the yukata's to attend meals in the restaurant. We were there in winter and the rooms were lovely and warm and the futons comfortable. The on-site onsen was very relaxing after dinner. Kinosaki town is magical.
- Keenan (10/5): In the heart of the Kinosaki Onsen, this wonderful ryokan provides great facilities & additional services whilst mai - • Great location
• Friendly staff always willing to help
• Good food provided
• Nice traditional room Not much of a negative, but staff continued to clean room when we stated at before checking-in that leaving it would be fine
- Sarah (10/5): Lovely and relaxing stay - Our stay at this ryokan was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and attention to detail. The hotel is stunning, with a beautifully traditional design that exudes charm. As is customary in a ryokan, guests are asked to remove shoes inside, but slippers are provided.
Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a hot cup of tea, which was a thoughtful touch. When we went out, the staff prepared the futons for us, ensuring everything was ready for a peaceful night’s rest.
We opted for the breakfast, and it was both delicious and generous. We also enjoyed sampling the local beers at the hotel’s bar.
The onsen, while small, was never crowded during our stay, and I often had the place to myself. I particularly enjoyed the serene outdoor bath. The views from our room were lovely, overlooking the street and river. Next time, I’ll request a room with a view on the forest, as the autumn colors were breathtaking.
Every member of the staff was friendly, professional, and eager to help, making us feel incredibly welcomed throughout our stay. We truly had a memorable experience, and we’ll definitely return. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team for making our visit so special.
- Stephanie (10/5): A very good experience that ended up being great value given the quality of food and service. - Excellent location, fabulous food and outstanding service by all staff. As a family of five we really enjoyed the experience and hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble and the small touches like tea on arrival and yakuta being provided was great. Nothing
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional -
