- Guest (5/5): ok ,just somewhere yo put your head down. - Breakfast was good. The bath rooms
- Arne (3/5): Grubby - The hotel was cheap. £43 pp The hotel and its staff were much under par. Carpets greasy stained, doors covered in finger marks, near black.
- Goble (10/5): -
- David (7/5): Really enjoyed our week around the Isle of Wight but was disappointed with the hotel - Position of hotel in town General view of hotel needed more care in appeareance, both inside and outside
- Kelly (7/5): Excellent location and served its purpose and was very reasonable - This hotel is in an excellent location, has been taken over in recent years by a young family and is slowly being restored, it will certainly be a hotel to keep an eye on in the future as if it is restored to its former glory it will be amazing. I wish them all the best and hope they can bring the hotel back to life it served its purpose for us, we stayed one night, it just needs some loving
- Emma (10/5): Superb location, great value For money, friendly staff. - Superb location, great value

Room very good size
Bed very comfy! Nothing
- craig (8/5): Always reliable and peaceful. - Location is the big point. Tea selection in room.
- Gary (3/5): - The location was good, the staff were brilliant & helpful about the area 👍 The beds were uncomfortable, the bathroom was tiny, no leg room at all if you need to sit down on the toilet, no hot water in the shower, could hear next door clear as day but still enjoyed our holiday. Just next time I'll read the reviews before booking
- Barry (7/5): -
- Iryna (10/5): but we liked it and we will come again - It's was very quiet and cozy place There was a broken bed in one of their rooms.
- craig (8/5): lovely ambience, comfortable bed. - Old style charm in a beautiful village.
- Jonathan (8/5): -
- John (7/5): Good value, great location. - Quiet, great location, cosy and parking available. It was tired, but we assumed that.
- Ibbitson (1/5): - Nothing When I was shown to the room and the lady opened the door the smell hit you in the face, the carpet looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months, the towels had stains on them, I brought my own. The whole experience was a nightmare. The main bar area the floor boards wobbled when you walked on them, when checking out I handed in the keys , normally they would say how was your stay they just thanked me and the summed up everything to me. People had dogs in their rooms. The pipes in the walls made stage loud noises in the middle of the night which woke me up.
I would never ever recommend this hotel to anybody ever
- Brett (6/5): Good value for money, comfy beds and the best breakfast ever. - The room was clean and comfortable. you won't get a better breakfast anywhere. Great location for the old village. The host were very friendly. Nice bar, but the hotel needs some improvments, which the owners are aware of and doing their best. The hotel needs tidying up and some decorating.
- Guest (9/5): Good Value. - The owners, Carrie - Anne and Wayne were pleasant and helpful. The room was fine and the fry up at breakfast was lovely!
The food was good quality and very well cooked. Lovely location in the heart of Shanklin Old Village.
- John (8/5): Lovely stay in the heart of Shanklin - The hotel is family run and very friendly
Breakfast was excellent. The best value breakfast I’ve ever had.
The bar is well stocked and friendly
There is a pool table and games room
The price is reflective of the quality and we had no issues whatsoever.
The owners are there to help with anything
- Freake (7/5): -

- Lee (8/5): Nice relaxing stay - Set in a lovely little part of the village. We had a good size room with a big bay window overlooking old thatched quite pubs very picturesque .we had a really nice relaxing fore night stay.
- Guest (1/5): We booked for 4 nights got there and didn’t even stay 1 night the place is filthy - Nothing the pictures online are nothing like we witnessed Everything
- Dr (9/5): -
- colin (10/5): This property and hospitality was perfect for our group - Great value for money and location was excellent.
The owners could not have been more helpful The property is obviously being upgraded by the new owners but that has been taken into account with the price.
- Guest (7/5): - Perfect location in the village and short walk to beach

- gary (1/5): Hotel was awful and o wouldn’t stay there sgain - Location Room was smelly and mouldy and dirty
- Jason (10/5): - Awesome great location & great value Nothing
- Guest (9/5): -
- Matthew (5/5): -
- jane (5/5): - Great location and staff breakfast was excellent Hotel in great need of restoration and refurbishment
- Jim (2/5): Dirty and dilapidated. The only good points are the location and parking Avoid!! - The parking and location The whole property really needs a major refurbishment and redecoration. It’s old and “tired” looking. In particular our room was dirty, especially the bathroom which had a leak from the soil pipe behind the toilet that had been there for weeks, possibly longer.
The owners, while pleasant enough, did not present a good image - smoking outside the lounge and in sloppy clothing.
We booked in - went to our room - talked about the accommodation - found somewhere else to stay - then booked out. We didn’t even want to stay for one night.
This hotel should not be taking guests
- Sangarapillai (1/5): Broken ceiling and water leaking - Location Very poor hygiene levels and very dirty mattress ,kettle, bathroom ,no secured room windows are not lockable ,no safety for family with children
- Mike (8/5): Excellent would return - Perfect location
Wonderful people
- Guest (8/5): Had a pleasant stay - Friendly family run hotel. Picturesque village. Ideal location
- Lee (5/5): -
- James (7/5): -
- Happy times (1/5): Supposed to stay 5 nights cut our losses and stayed 1 night it was a dirty dump and not friendly the - Breakfast not nice and warm juice with a fly in it location is the only thing I liked The male owner not nice and not welcoming scruffy looking
- Guest (7/5): Good value for money in a quaint peaceful setting - Lovely location with friendly and accommodating staff. Bed was comfortable and the room had what was needed for our short stay Would have been good to have basic body wash provided in the shower.
- Vladimir (8/5): -
- Helen (8/5): A lovely place to stay, but don't worry to book in for breakfast. Use the nearby cafes instead. - Very friendly host, comfortable beds
- Edwige (9/5): - Hotel authentique et calme, très bien situé au cœur du vieux village. Hotel ancien qui mérite encore quelques rénovations.
- Emma Slade (1/5): -
- Mohammad Tahzeeb (4/5): -
- Kunal (5/5): Hotel is situated at a prime location but if the customers will not get a comfortable stay then it not worth it. - Property location is superb and no complaints about it. Double room has no ventilation and bathroom needs a renovation. It makes the stay in the hotel suffocating and filthy due to old broken washroom and the trash in front of the room windows.
- Hayley (7/5): Great value friendly hosts - Great people Bed could be more comfortable
- Esme (8/5): Historic hotel in great location! - Fantastic location!
Good value - this historic hotel is being slowly being renovated.
- Guest (1/5): Horrible - The property was in a poor state the bedroom was disgusting the bed was in a poor state and just was a very poor run down hotel doesn’t look like the pictures
- Guest (10/5): -
- Annette (5/5): Would come back again if investment was made on the exterior - Was typical IOW and took me back in time Decor run down and looked sad and broken outside the window with an empty pool
- Nick (5/5): Could be beautiful hotel if renovated. Photo shows view from hotel room bedroom. - Location In need of serious renovation
- Ed264 (4/5): it's a budget priced hotel, so don't expect it to be 5 star. - We stayed in room 9. I'm going to be fair and say I understand that the hotel is being renovated by its owners, and wish them all the best with it, and appreciate it's not an easy task.
- Christine (7/5): -
- Hemant (6/5): -
- Happy times (4/5): Very unhappy. Holiday spoiler Hotel. - Everyone who visits will see the Hotel in a different view. But for my family it was not suitable . We dont expect alot but the room was complete with dust ( old dust ) I use to be a Hotel maid so i know what to expect.Opened the wardrobe and drawers etc full of grey dust ( never been cleaned in a long time ) spiders flies etc low pressure water which is annoying when on hot day you need a good wash. Tiny bathroom. In hallway a smell ?? not sure if it was a drug ?? floating around ( yes this happens in Hotels ) but i did not want to smell it . in short we didnt want to stay any longer after one night so we checked out and stayed at family home on IOW for rest of our holiday. I could write a list but guests have their own expectations of Hotels. Must add, breakfast on a whole nice but warm juice served with a fly in !! Breakfast room dusty . Bed matteress all stained and blood marks !!! So really the whole hotel was dirty and male owner not approachable !! and intimidating !! Never ever have we stayed in such a dirty Hotel as this .A rundown one we have but was still clean . Most things sorry .Not for us .
- Andy (5/5): - Convenient and cheap Plenty of little things but I understand the new owners are still settling in.
- Rebecca (5/5): Nice - you get what you pay for but would not return - Location It was very ‘run down’ We appreciated the explanation regarding the property in the state of refurbishment but there was a lot that was needed. Some due to refurbishment it some due to cleaning - cobwebs and dirt in the room !!!!
- Tim (6/5): - Central in Shanklin
- Linda (4/5): Good location for the old town but hotel needs a lot of work. - The lady who greeted us was extremely nice. Our room needed a lot of work. We had a bedroom with a mock 4 poster bed that was rickety, the springs could be felt and mattress base had a large tear in it. The toilet didnt flush.
- JOHN (9/5): Good Place to stay. - all good The though of not being there.
- Jasmine (6/5): - Location was good. The village is beautiful. Mouldy bathroom. Really outdated furniture.. terrible views. Just block the window up! Didn’t feel comfortable to use the rest of the facilities.
- Dianne (10/5): -
- Jennie (7/5): Could be amazing! - The owners.
The spacious room we had.
Location.
The building. Cramped bathroom.
Balcony without airflow.
- Ian (10/5): - The hosts were amazing
Carrie-Anne and Wayne were exceptional with helping us and making us comfortable. Breakfast made by Carrie was amazing. Very tasty, big portions and efficient.
Very friendly and family run hotel in a beautiful area and so looking forward to seeing them again.
We walked to the beach from the hotel and walked around the beautiful town. A bit dated but the new owners are working on the deco.
- Karim (7/5): - Location TV too small
- Ivan (10/5): -
- Guest (1/5): -
- Liam (5/5): Hotel has a lot of potential, needs investment - Central location in the old village, adjoining balcony and the management were very friendly and helpful Bathroom was tiny and shower pressure was very low
- Susan (8/5): Perfect for round the Isle of Wight coast path walk. - Perfect for the coast path. All good.
- Marie (2/5): - The owners were friendly and the location was excellent. Its good value for money, if we'd had hot water!. Its ideal for a stop over for a night at the theatre. We had no hot water and there was soap from the previous guests still in the shower. Everywhere just seemed dirty and dusty.
- Karl (7/5): Adequately priced, served its purpose, nice owners. - Liked the ease of coming and going at our leisure. The hosts were very down to earth and friendly.
The property is undergoing major refurbishment and the owners are really trying their best. However, the price does reflect this.
The hotel does offer breakfast for an additional £12.00 which you have to let the staff know by 7pm the evening before. The bathroom in our room really did need an overhaul and the shower did drip over onto the floor but that’s not a dislike from us just an observation.
Mattress very spongy. As previously mentioned the place is undergoing refurbishment and this takes time.
- Guest (1/5): Applying - This hotel was in a good setting. It had parking. The hotel had so many things wrong with it. It should not be open. Swimming pool had dirty water with plants in it. The playground area was very overgrown. Outside sitting area was over grown, seats not clean. Inside very poorly kept. Mastic holding up light fitting in room no extract in bathroom, very old broken furniture, kettle on very small plastic shelf from the 80. Second floor closeted of because of a like. Was told he will fix it in October. The owner had dirty clothes on that he had on the next day to.
- Rob (10/5): - Lovely looking location Nothing
- Jim (9/5): -
- Andrea (7/5): - Hosts were lovely and accommodating. We're always in hand and communicating easy. Location lovely good parking and outside area spacious bedroom. Recommendations were great 👍 It is dated but you can ignore that. Bathroom squeezed in and tight..design needs improving as with bad back couldn't reach the water at sink. The pressure if really low however once realised running a bath was the solution as we had time..Dont let this out you off(I just have thick hair) and the good outway the bad. It isnt the pink building but building opposite nice view of village
- Joyce (10/5): - The receptionist was amazing
We had booked 2 single rooms. Due to booking issues there were no single bed rooms left and we were offered 4 double bed rooms. I really appreciate this and thank the hotel for their excellent service and hospitality Everything was good
- Watson (10/5): -
- John (7/5): Clean, friendly and perfect for 0ur needs. - Very welcoming and attentive staff. Spacious and comfortable room, although bathroom on the small side. We appreciate that the owners are in process of updating, and this is a long term project, however, we had everything we needed and everything was very clean. Thankyou. The car park surfaces need to be addressed as I was concerned about potential damage, however it was very handy to have!
- Graham (3/5): -
- Julie (10/5): Lovely - The proprietors were absolutely lovely, couldn’t do enough for us
- Tim (7/5): -
- Joseph (7/5): - Cheap Leaking shower
- Richard (8/5): Great fun. A memorable part of our adventure holiday cycling on the island. - Staff so helpful and friendly. Looked after us really well: by lending us a charger, putting the bikes in a safe location and giving local information.
- Natasha (7/5): - Family run hotel with a charming feel.
Historical building with lots of cute features.
I liked the old charm of the place.
Excellent value for money.
Bed linen was crisp, clean and fresh, As were the towels provided.
Hairdryer in the room which was a pleasant surprise.
Tea and coffee making facilities too.
Well stocked bar area and garden. Small selection of games to play in the seated bar area as well as a pool table.
Wifi worked well.
Quirky run down building which the family are working so hard to lovingly restore. Totally admirable! I hope people can understand this and appreciate these are real people trying to make a living whilst trying to provide great hospitality.
Restoration costs time and money and I chose to stay in this hotel last night to support this.
- Rita (9/5): Pleasant place - Clean
