We had a chat and ended up at his family’s dinner party. The best experience!!! Complementary drinks, etc. THE BEST TIME in Sri Lanka. Saratah is very smart and soooo easy going. We do not have the time, but would love to come back!!!

- Annick (9/5): Rustgevend in een drukke plaats zoals Kandy - Charmante kamers met een mooi aangelegde tuin. Kamers met comfortabele bedden en douche met warm water. Aangename, verzorgde dienstverlening: we voelden ons welkom. Ontbijt was lekker en bood een combinatie tussen Sri Lankaans ontbijt en toast. Hoog gelegen in een niet toeristisch gebied van Kandy, het was een uitdaging om door de centrale baan te geraken omwille van het verkeer, maar het gaf ons de kans om direct kennis te maken met de Tuk-Tuk-cultuur

Freshly prepared local cuisine for breakfast, great chats with the host, he even arranged for a local spice seller to come and see us, so now we have enough, high quality, spices to last for a good while. Excellent!

- astrid (8/5): Fijn verblijf bij liefdevolle gastvrouw - Fijne eenvoudige kamer met waterkoker en goede airco op een mooi plekje aan de rand van het dorp tegenover een cafe met een waanzinnig uitzicht. Ontzettend lieve gastvrouw die op het tetrasje voor de kamer een enorm uitgebreid ontbijt serveert, ook voor mijn zoon met coeliakie. Dankjewel! Beetje lastig te vinden, en de berg die je op moet is net iets hoger dan je denkt.
- Rong (9/5): - Marvel Hills is within easy walking distance of the city centre. It's high enough up the hillside to escape the noise but also has great panoramic views of the surrounding area. The owner, and his dog, are both super friendly. Our family of four had a great time staying here.

Majitel moc fajn, poradil nam, kam mame jit a jak se dostat do dalsiho mesta 😊 Do centra se dalo prochazkou dojit pesky (cca 30 minut) - 20 minut pesky je vlak a autobus.

The room we rented was the family room, it had a little kitchen which enabled us to make our own breakfast which was a pleasant change. There was also a washing machine! Everything worked well and we got some dog time with the resident dog.very flexible, interesting and helpful owner.

- Clara (10/5): Exceptional, will recommend - This is a rare find! The owner speaks excellent English and has the manners of a British lord. He greeted us ahead of our check-in time, accommodated us with guava juice and made sure our room was already cleaned before letting us in and explaining how everything worked. The room is beautiful, spotless clean and relatively modern (it has a flatscreen tv), clean fridge and formidable double wardrobe to put our clothes. The tea table was adorable, filled with tea/coffee staples and even metal cutlery in case we ordered in (came in handy!). The bathroom is shiny and new, nice shampoo & wash, great water pressure and temperature. Our room had its own terraced garden which was such a piece of heaven, and the location is a bit away from the craziness and honking of the main road (even though it's only 5min away by foot), so our senses really appreciated it. He also gave us very good tips on how to move around the city, and we found everything to be within walking distance. DIGITAL NOMADS: the wifi has several routers and it's fiber, so it works flawlessly, even for video calls! BONUS: we had to do laundry but the owner offered to ask his cleaning lady, and he told us we were free to pay her whatever price we deemed fair (very diplomatic of him). EXTRA BONUS: Jayjay - the most beautiful and playful German shepherd we've met (not only in Sri Lanka, but anywhere).

- Alessandra (10/5): Best homestay in Kandy! - I spent 3 days in this amazing homestay and I loved every second of it! The room was big, spacious, clean and was just a great place to relax. I also had the most beautiful private garden overlooking Kandy. Such a peaceful place away from the hustle and bustle of the city center. As other reviews states, there is a steep hill to get to the property, but it’s literally 10 steps to reach the top and this gives you the most amazing view. Sarath is the kindest host! He is super helpful and gave me so many tips for the rest of my trip. I was also lucky enough to spend some time with him and his lovely family, which made the stay even better. The homestay is very close to the train station, city center, grocery store and a few restaurants nearby. The internet is also good! It’s the perfect location. I highly recommend booking this place for your upcoming trip to Kandy. I’ll definitely come back next time. Thank you so much for your hospitality! Nothing, it was perfect!

The room was very big, clean and had all facilities we needed and more! A perfect place to relax after a busy day in town! Be mindful, there are lots of stairs to get to your room. Maybe not recommended for people who might have difficulties with this.

- Jennifer (10/5): The ideal accomodation to enjoy Kandy - This property is very clean and comfortable and even though there is a short steep hill and stairs, it makes it ideal for the view and breeze, and is also quiet from any traffic noise. There are many restaurants either on the main road or a short walk up the hill. Sarath is a lovely man and is very interesting to talk to about Sri Lanka and we thank you for your hospitality.

There was a school a few hundred metres away that would sing each morning which sounded beautiful, a great way to start the day Nothing we didn’t like. Just so future guests are aware, it is up a very steep short hill and the water pressure in the shower is quite low

He spoke good English and the breakfast was good - different every day, for our 3 days. Spectacular views from the hotel. The approach to the hotel is quite steep, if you are reasonably mobile it isn't a problem.

- Swapnil (2/5): Disappointing Stay with Multiple Issues at Marvel Hills Kandy - I recently stayed at Marvel Hills Kandy, and unfortunately, my experience was not up to expectations. Here are some of the issues I encountered: Inaccessible Location: The hotel is situated on a steep uphill road, making it difficult to locate and reach, especially for first-time visitors. Poor Wi-Fi Connectivity: The internet speed was extremely slow, and at times, there was no connection at all, which was quite inconvenient. Low Water Pressure: The water pressure in the bathroom was very low, making basic tasks like showering quite uncomfortable. Unclean Bedding: The blankets provided had hair stuck on them, raising concerns about cleanliness and hygiene. Cramped Bathroom: The bathroom was unexpectedly small, making it uncomfortable to use. I hope the management addresses these issues to improve the experience for future guests.

- Karen (10/5): Wish we had stayed longer……. - My wife and I stayed for 2 nights. We can’t recommend this home too much. It certainly felt like we were at home. The room was so clean, bed was comfortable and bathroom spotless. Our room was well appointed, entered via its own garden. We had special views across the whole valley. We hooked up to the Wi-Fi and looked for things to do but our host knew all the good things to do, he even organized a TukTuk tour with a local guide. Our tour was fantastic and such a great price. We took breakfast had delicious home cooked roti with coconut salad and chutney along with eggs and fruit. On the first night we ventured into the city for dinner and on the second night we stayed local. Both restaurants were good. The local shops were terrific, selling local fresh food. We moved on to South but wished we had stayed longer.

His warm and attentive approach made the stay feel very comfortable and welcoming. The room was spacious and clean, with comfortable furniture and excellent amenities. It had everything needed for a comfortable stay: air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and even a tea and coffee set. Cleanliness throughout the room and hotel was top-notch. The hotel is ideally located — within walking distance of major attractions, shops, and restaurants. This made it very easy for us to explore the city and enjoy the local atmosphere without any hassle. -
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional - We had a lovely stay at Marvel Hills. It’s close to town, the station and there are a couple of restaurants a 3 minute walk up the hill. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. The owner was very welcoming to his home and approachable when we needed to reach out. He immediately sorted out an issue in the room at 9pm and even gave us a lift to the station the next day. We would definitely stay here again It’s located up in the hills so you do get the odd bug but that’s expected in Sri Lanka and in the area. Not an issue but just expect that

Restauranger och affärer nära. Rent och fräsch. Trevlig pub bara en liten bit ifrån pensionatet. För mig som gillar blommor va det fantastiskt.

- Samantha (10/5): Garden paradise within the lively Kandy city - Fantastic stay at Marvel Hills. Sarath is the perfect host, welcoming, friendly and helpful. Breakfast offerings were plentiful both traditional and western. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Sarath organised a TukTuk for us for a day with a friendly local. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be returning.

Gorgeous view from the homestay, and from the moment I arrived, I was welcomed by the sweet owner, and had some juice while smal talking about my trip to Sri Lanka. The appartment was Nice, and perfekt for me for the 4 days I spent there. There was a kitchen with refridgerator, and washing machine. Great breakfast with variations everyday. I might Come back to stay here again :) Around 10-15 Walk to the city, Nice Walk Down the Hill.

- balgarvie2018 (10/5): Marvellous - We stayed at Marvel Hills while visiting Kandy for the Perawera. Sarath was very welcoming throughout our stay and provided a driver to show us around the sights of the surrounding area, the tea plantation tour was a highlight. Our room was cool and comfortable and as the building is set above the road there is almost no traffic noise. Breakfasts were a mix of Sri Lankan and European and always very tasty. If we're ever back in Kandy we will definitely return to Marvel Hills.

- Sandra (10/5): A hidden gem in the hills ! - Marvel Hills exceeded our expectations. What a truly lovely homestay. The owner went out of his way to help us out with luggage storage and extra night there. Location was fabulous as the local bus stop is very close and cheap to use and frequent. We had a room with balcony overlooking Kandy hills. The room was very spacious with kitchenette on balcony and fridge/freezer. The grounds and garden were immaculate. We will be recommending this gem to family and friends and will definitely be back one day soon. 10/10 Nothing
- Kiran (10/5): Stunning views, with all the comforts of home. - This is a lovely home with three rooms set on a hill overlooking the city. The garden is magnificent and the owner has a very friendly and unobtrusive dog “J J”, who is a delight. I stayed in the family suite, which was spacious, immaculately clean and included a kitchenette with filtered water and a washing machine. It is a short walk into town and there are restaurants within 3-5 mins walk. As it is set on a hill there are stairs to enter the property and if you are mobility impaired it may be an issue . This home is comfortable and the owner goes out of his way to make your stay a memorable one. I totally recommend and would stay again Nothing

- Koen (10/5): Exceptional - The apartment is really nice, it is on a hillside overlooking Kandy. Just out of the hustle and bustle, and in walking distance to the train station (+- 15 min). Perfect if you need to catch the morning train to Ella. Apartment has a large terrace with a kitchenette (incl kettle). Apartment has airco and fan and bed was comfortable. Room was clean and quiet. I was a little ill when staying there, and the owner was very sweet and gracious in supplying me with hot medicinal tea. Many thanks!
- Alison (10/5): Calm Oasis - Just spent 2 nights at Marvel Hills and and what an excellent stay it was . The room was large and the bed super comfy. It had the best hot shower we've had in Sri Lanka so far . There were tea/coffee making facilities and also a kitchenette with microwave and fridge freezer. The room had a large private balcony overlooking a beautiful garden full of birds. It wS a real oasis in a busy city. The owner Sarath was welcoming and friendly and made a delicious breakfast. He helped with any questions we had and organised a fair priced taxi for us when we left. We loved our stay . Nothing

- Runa (10/5): Highly recommend - I arrived late at night due to delayed flight followed by bad traffic. The owner was very attentive and stay up to welcome me at arrival. Because we had communicated online before and throughout my journey to the guest house, I felt safe and looked after well. The house is elegant and very clean. Breakfast was just like home.
- Yongyi (10/5): Exceptional - Oh it saved my day in Kandy. I booked a hotel on the mountain which was full of bugs. I had to escape from that place and luckily I found this place. Room is very clean and well setup, comfortable, get everything I need. Host is very friendly. It’s in the city center but a bit uphill. So it’s convenient but also quiet from the traffic. I like it. Host also has two dogs. They are huge but friendly and cute. Very good stay.

Even though we only stayed for one night we already had some really nice conversations with him and his friends. The place looks really nice with all the plants and flowers and the location is great and near the city centre. Oh yeah…and watch out for the dogs…as they will steal your heart! ;-)

- Voyage702019 (10/5): Exceptionally welcoming Homestay - Your hosts are so friendly that you feel like a family member arriving home after a long absence. They are also organised and efficient and willing to help in any way they can. This is a beautifully presented accommodation with generous-sized rooms. Big and little details have been attended to. The shower was hot and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was a feast and there was variety each morning with home-made local foods to be sampled along with the regular items most people would want. It was a truly special place to stay, within walking distance of shopping and transport and food venues. With the limited number of rooms you will be fortunate to book into Marvel Hills but they will make you feel extra special when you do.
- 504kirstenj (10/5): Great view, amazing house - We only stayed here on a brief one night stop over but the house is stunning and the owners are very welcoming. The accommodation was really spacious and probably the most modern compared to our other stays, with a TV and tea and coffee making etc. The breakfast was lovely but beware the hill is extremely steep so if you have heavy luggage be prepared for a climb! It is easy to walk into town (10/15 mins) or tuk tuks are easily available. This is in the more upmarket residential part of town and we are very glad we stayed in this area.

- garylX511WR (10/5): Fantastic accommodation and location - Marvel Hills, Kandy is just the best place to stay. The accommodation is modern, neat, clean and very upmarket. The hosts Sarath and Karminie are wonderful and the food is great. The property is only a short walk from town and an even shorter tuk tuk ride. The views are spectacular! For value for money it must be the best or close to the very best in Kandy!
- chemmie (10/5): Even Better Than The Pictures - My wife and I stayed for two nights at Marvel Hills and it was fantastic. Sarath and Karmonie (I hope I got that correct!) were wonderful hosts. They were always there and always offered up juice or water, a tasty Sri Lankan breakfast, and even a late night snack. We ended up spending a lot of time with them, just having good conversation. It was like staying with friends. The view from the property is even better than the pictures. There is a great breeze on the large porch area, and you can sit there all day. The room was perfect. About the size of a normal bedroom with an attached bathroom with great hot water. The AC worked extremely well, which we really appreciated after dealing with the Sri Lankan heat. The house is also a very short walk, or PickMe, into Kandy center, and there is a laundry and a grocery story just up the street. We loved out stay with Sarath and his wife. If we ever make it back to Kandy, we would stay there again for longer than just two nights.
