Guest Reviews
- Sebastian (10/5): - Nice place and location
- Mimi (6/5): - Area was close to Vatican , which that was the only thing I liked about this place.
- Janneth (10/5): Cozy place!! - The property was very cozy and welcoming. We stayed for one night so I could attend Mass at the Vatican, and it was the perfect choice. The staff kindly recommended a restaurant nearby, where the food was truly outstanding.
- Leah (10/5): - our stay was great! The lady who checked us in provided a delicious breakfast for us! The bathroom was a little stinky when we first arrived.
The location was great right near Vatican City! It was about an hour walk from Old town Rome. But you can take scooters there for easy and fun transportation.
- Mary (10/5): - It’s nice to have free breakfast even we didn’t try when we were staying there as we need to do an early checkout. Good instructions in checking in and out, very accommodating . Good area, few minutes away to Basilica and other establishments. I recommended this place.
- Marjorie (10/5): - Very nice staff
- Raul (10/5): - I like the left luggage accomodation, when u checkout,.and come back for it later in the afternoon.
- Tammy (10/5): - Great location, sweet ladies that served us breakfast. We arrived early n they were wonderful to let us drop off our luggage!!
- Jacklin (6/5): - Just a very cramped area. 😅
- Anais (4/5): - The place was very dirty and in poor conditions, the personal was lovely and the location was great but they need to upgrade the quality and cleanliness of their room for the price they are asking. We regret staying there
- Andres (10/5): - Amazingly located 4 minutes away from Saint Peter Square.
- John (8/5): - Our accommodation was centrally located, condition of property was satisfactory. Would have been useful to have had a place to lay cases on for a short stay . Good hanging space and shower fine .
- Michael Patrick (8/5): - Solid…great location…good breakfast…clean
- Megan (8/5): - The location is great.
- Denise (4/5): - Booked the "junior suite" that was nothing like the photos. The room was small and overly crowded with 3 beds. 2 of them were just the roll away type. It was so tight that there was nowhere to place and fully open a suitcase. The "terrace" had no green as shown. Just a bunch of broken chicken wire. I don't know how old the photos were, but it was not like that at all. We didn't have breakfast as our schedule had us leaving too early to take advantage of it. The exterior of the building was covered in scaffolding and hard to navigate with luggage.
- Marlea (10/5): - Everything about this B&B was great. The only thing we found difficult was we had an address but were not instructed as to how to find the apartment we were actually staying in. There was construction going on and several gates we had to navigate to get to our actual apartment room.
- Bud (10/5): - Great location
- Mokthar (6/5): - Very convenient location the rooms are small and the breakfast is very limited and the breakfast area is very congested the lady serving the breakfast on the weekdays is mean and need some training in good customer service
- Aoife (10/5): - Very safe area. Perfectly located! The Vatican is right there and there are many restaurants, gift shops, laundromats etc in the area. There is breakfast, a common area and luggage storage which was all really convenient. It was one of the best places we stayed on our trip.
- Julian (10/5): - The location was perfect for our early morning visits to St. Peter’s & the Vatican Museums. We were also close to a metro station although we walked to many of the sights. Apart from a loud American guest, the room was very quiet & the bed was comfortable. The room & en suite were compact but very clean. Breakfast was simple but adequate & we were able to use the communal kitchenette, although if you drink a lot of tea you might want to bring your own English Breakfast. The communication & service was excellent, with staff very kind & helpful. If you are happy with no frills, I would highly recommend Allegra's House.
- Yanick (10/5): Great location/Clean/Fantastic Service - Great location- super close to Vatican City!! The room is small but very cozy. The service was fantastic- made our stay so much better. The bathroom was quite big and well equipped. There is a communal kitchen but no stovetop to cook, only a microwave. There is also a fridge in the room but it was very loud (bring earplugs). If you have dietary restrictions, make sure to mention them after booking by sending a message to the property (we didn’t think to do so). All in all, we had a great stay here.
- Victoria (10/5): - Our stay was perfect. Staff was very caring and helpful.
- Mike (10/5): - Fantastic budget option when in Rome
- maris (10/5): - close to Vatican City , shops , food and train
- Anoop (10/5): - Awesome location, 5min walk to Vatican museum (just around the wall), and 10 min to St Peter's square. We were able to go to the St Peter's square at 7am, just when it opened, for a crowdless visit and were back for breakfast at 8:30; and then had a 9:30am entry for the vatican museum. It worked out perfect. We had an issue with a roll out bed, which kep folding with kid on it. It could not be fixed, but, people are very kind and will accommodate and help as much they can. They can communicate over whatsapp, so you don't need phone number and just data with esim is fine. Vodaphone esim worked great for us. 2GB was enough for 7 days. They were able to take the city tax by credit card along with the room payment. It is one room in a house. Breakfast was small but good quality and just enough.
- Marivic (10/5): - Nice and accomodating
- Yemi (6/5): - This is not an hotel, it’s a three bedroom apartment in an apartment complex. The TV only has Italian speaking channels, reach out to the owner and nothing was done. The breakfast was served daily and the cleaning lady was very nice. Internet was very spotty. There was construction on going at the apartment complex so expect loud noises early morning. This was certainly not what I expected.
- carolyn (10/5): - A great location and variety of restaurants all walkable. Excellent, helpful staff
- Joie (8/5): - The location and staff who prepared our breakfast were great. The check in procedure was terrible. Even though I contacted the property several times, when we got there no one was around and I received no communication when messaging them. 2 others were in the same predicament and were able to phone someone. Having a WhatsApp contact would be helpful. We waited probably 45 minutes before someone arrived. The check in was our only issue with this stay.
- Mark (4/5): - Property was rated as Wonderful but was basic at best. Good place if you’re back packing on a budget. No frills. Parking in the area was really difficult. Apartment was noisy inside and outside. 4 different keys for access, sounded like breakfast time in the jail
- juan (10/5): - Excellent service staff was very gracious and polite
- Lilia (8/5): - Comfortable Staying
- Chris (8/5): - Check in was delayed. Very good price for the location and facilities. Our bed and mini-fridge very nosiy and squeaky. Great connections to the rest of the city with the metro within 5 minutes and the vatican also within 5 minutes.
- Holly (8/5): - You pay for what you get. Cheap cheerful accommodation. Property was clean and located close to the Vatican. States on the description to message host before departure, messaged host 48 and 24 hours ahead of departure with no response. Received acknowledgement of my messages when we had arrived at the property. Check in was quick and simple. Accomadation was perfect for our needs, a place to sleep whilst we explored the city. Don't bother with the breakfast if you can call it that.
- Pedro (10/5): - The staff was top notch for this little BnB check in was smooth. Close to Vatican.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay! - We had a lovely long weekend in Rome and this was the perfect place to stay! A warm welcome and delicious breakfast too! Thank you! Would definitely recommend if going to Rome for a city break!
- Maria Lorena (10/5): - Great
- Denise (6/5): - They cancelled my triple room as I was at the Rome airport saying they had a broken pipe. They told me I could have it the next day and I could either get a new accommodation through Expedia or they could give us a double room for free to make up for it. We took the double room (with one of my daughters sleeping on the floor) because we didn’t want the hassle of moving locations plus we had already figured out our transportation to the hotel. We saw another couple with a dog go into the room that supposedly had a broken pipe, so they didn’t tell us the truth. Good thing we got a room for free or we would have been very upset! Very disappointing as we had booked months ahead. Poor service!
Great location - walking distance to the Vatican.
Good breakfast.
- Jennifer (10/5): Allegra’s House exceeded expectations - This stay was fantastic for our family. Truly perfect location and everything we could have needed was available. Our host was so accommodating and such a huge help with airport transfers. Breakfasts were lovely. We would be delighted to return here again in the future and highly recommend!
- DIANA (10/5): - We loved this place! the neighborhood was very walkable, food in the area was excellent. we loved the staff. they were friendly and responsive. We plan on going back to Italy next year and will stay here again!
- Barbara (10/5): - Great location. Easy access to everything. Great air conditioner. Lovely breakfast each morning. Very nice hosts to the property. Very quiet and convenient to everything. Would stay here again.
- SARAH (8/5): Short Stay - We were right near the Vatican. Breakfast was great and the communication with Alessandro was amazing!
- Vincenzo (10/5): - Nice accommodations for a quick stay. Very clean, excellent Italian breakfast. Nice spot for someone who’s ok to share common kitchen.
- Robert (10/5): - Great place. Well air conditioned in brutal heat.
- Cynthia (10/5): - Our room was in a great but very busy part of Vatican City. It was within walking distance to everything we wanted to see in the area and a transit ride away from the Colosseum. Litzia prepared a great breakfast and was cheerful and friendly. I’m not sure I would bring a car into this area again as parking is either incredibly difficult to find or very expensive! Otherwise great place to stay!
- Judith (8/5): Convenient and comfortable - Comfortable and very convenient to Vatican. Great range cafes and restaurants close.
- Kristina (8/5): - Excellent location and super close to Vatican.
Room had everything you needed and set up was nice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This location is amazing! The room wad comfortable and clean. Would recommend.
- Anton (8/5): - Great experience overall. Friendly staff and good breakfast
- Emilee (8/5): - Great location for our trip to Rome!
- Rachel (10/5): - Such a great location! We loved staying here. It had a cute private terrace outside as well. Def. Recommend. I had my husband and 2 boys and it was perfect.
- IVANA (8/5): Clean and great breakfast - Great breakfast, the lady who prepared it was there the whole time, like she was monitoring us. Other people who stayed in other rooms were a bit loud. Place was clean and good.
- Billie-Jean (8/5): Nice and close to Vatican - Was a little surprised to arrive - didn’t realise it was a shared house. In saying that we didn’t hear them come or go and it’s still quite private and secure was happy with location
- Alex (10/5): - Great location right near the Vatican. Really enjoyed our stay!
- Rita (10/5): Best place in Rome! - The best place, friendly and walking distance to Vatican, safety.
Allegra’s House always be my stay in Rome!
Alessandro , Rosa thanks for the amazing time.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good price - Good price and good clean room and good breakfast too to get you going.
Bathroom is ok, could use some more cloth hooks or towel rack, the only two that were installed were above the bidet, the glass shelf above the sink was not secured, it slipped out, luckily it did not shatter or fell on my feet.
Location is great, quiet at night, great foods and close to meeting spots for group tour.
- Zakia (10/5): - The property was great they promptly messaged back when we contacted them and kept in mind all of the specifics of our booking request :) thank you so much!
- juan (10/5): - Friendly staff and conveniently located.
- Donna (10/5): - Everyone was extremely helpful especially Allesandro
- Catherine (10/5): - Allegra's House is a gem. Although it is old, we have no problem with plumbing and hot shower. The location is superb. We're right outside the Vatican. The bus stop and metro is just 2 minutes to 6 minutes away. Breakfast is quite good and the staff who cooks our breakfast is friendly.
- Alicia (10/5): - Room is spacious and clean. Small elevator is able to take you up which is extremely helpful. Plenty of coffee shops and restaurants around the area. Plenty of transportation to take you wherever you need.
- Anna Liza M. (8/5): - The vicinity of the place is outstanding. Walkable to Vatican and lots of good restaurants and shopping just around the area. The place is decent. Roxanne was very accommodating. Just don’t expect a hotel like breakfast. It was a simple bread and coffee breakfast. The room is ok. Just be ready to have many keys 😂 and remember which keys to use. The place is highly recommended because of proximity to Vatican and Metro very accessible.
- Anupama (10/5): - Very close to Ottaviano metro station. Right beside the vatican museum. Our hostess, Letizia, was delightful and very helpful. Room was spacious with a cute patio area.
- Ana (10/5): - All tha staff are super kind, the room was clean and comfortable and the location is great
- Amandeep (8/5): - This location is okay for a brief stay; however, there were a few issues. The towels seemed quite worn, and the shower was notably small. Additionally, there were drainage problems in both the shower and washbasin.
- Denis (6/5): - ĝreat location, breakfast was late and fair
- Mary (10/5): - What a great place to stay! This is a unique property just outside the Vatican walls. The staff couldn't be nicer or more informative. The accommodations were fine. I highly recommend staying here.
- Katherine van (10/5): - This was a wonderful place to stay….
- tommy (8/5): - Love the place, close to everything. Accross street are Vatican City, restaurants, cafe shops, bakeries walkway, one of the best location in Rome. Manager did excellent job to make sure smooth check in. You can even check in as early as 10AM (if room is available, save us half a day, more time to visit the city) thanks so much. BTW, we were leaving early for airport, owner even reminded us, there were self service breakfast in kitchen, just help yourselves. How nice..Love it. Will stay again.
- Maria Genelle (4/5): - The only good thing about this property is that it is in a good area (good distance to the metro and The Vatican).
- Sofia (10/5): Perfectly located - Very good location. Close to the Vatican, metro, and nice restaurants. Will definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.
- Andrea (10/5): - Great location, walkable to metro station. Great host with great local recommendations.
- Marketa (8/5): - Great location. Stayed in the bigger room that sleeps 4. We were 3 travelers. Alessandro attentive to a couple small request we had. I would sugest to attend to the patio area every now and then ( some debris and cigaret butts, fence covering that should provide privacy from a very busy street coming undone looking weathered)…. Small things that make a big difference. No Wi-Fi in the room throughout the entire stay (5 nights) was not cool and never corrected. Safe, clean, would stay again.
- Shannon (8/5): - Room was simple but clean and had everything we needed (bonus - a mini fridge in room, not common for Italy). Location near Vatican was super close. The guy who checked us in, Alessandro, was nice and helpful.
That said, the Sunday morning we left was kind of unpleasant. Starting at 7:45am it sounded like a war was happening outside our door with loud talking and CONSTANT slamming of doors and cabinets…and I mean slamming, for 2 hours straight in this tiny place, so much for getting as much rest as possible before our 4 hour drive…then when I came out at 9:45am to grab a coffee to take to my room, I realized it was coming from the woman who was handling the breakfast, not inconsiderate guests. She seemed shocked to see me, and although technically breakfast ended at 10am she had already packed everything up ( I had planned to skip anyway, luckily)..then she told me check out was at 10am, but I reminded her the booking and the house rules print out both said 10:30am…Then she asked for cash for the city tax, but didn’t have change for our cash, then tried to tell me there was no other way until I said ok I will contact Alessandro to figure it out, then all of a sudden she could take a card….
Look, I empathize that they basically run an Airbnb so they only work during the check in/out times and she wanted to wrap up, but ultimately you are providing a service. Adding undue stress for a tired traveler is not appreciated. Not a great way to end our time in Rome.
- Erikh (10/5): Very satisfied - The hosts were very nice and accommodating. They made our stay very comfortable. The breakfast each morning was perfect.
- Ana (10/5): - Great place
- Phoebe (4/5): - No AC deal breaker at 94 degrees
- Edward (8/5): - The property is very close to the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Basilica and an easy walk to bus, trolley and subway stops which is very convenient but makes the neighborhood busy with tourists, very noisy and somewhat dirty which affects the room and the little terrace outside. We were surprised to find that the room shares a hall with two other rooms and that the kitchen area is shared; this created no problems during our stay as we barely saw the other tenants but might be an issue for some people considering this property. Continental breakfast was provided each morning (no additional charge).
The property manager asked us to give an arrival time to let us into the room (this is an apartment in a larger building, not a hotel room) and when we arrived an hour before the time (5pm instead of 6pm) we texted the manager; it took an hour for her assistant to arrive to check us in (even though when texted we were told that she would be there "immediately"). We wished we had spent the hour in the cafe next to the property instead of standing on the curb with our luggage awaiting her "immediate" arrival. Fortunately there is a gate attendant at the property who directed us where to park (right across the street, 40 Euros per day) and the parking attendants were very accommodating in parking our car after we unloaded our luggage; retrieving the car a few days later was also a fast and efficient process (unexpected in a city where driving and parking can be such a problem).
- Molly (10/5): - Highly recommend staying here. Alessandro, Susan, and the staff are so kind. Make sure to message them or call to arrange leaving your bags before check in. Breakfast was so delicious and the room and bathroom were nice!
- Connor (8/5): - Nice stay overall, however, there were also areas for improvement.
I only gave 3* and not less as the lady at breakfast was an absolute gem. She was so lovely and kind and put in a huge amount of effort to make us both feel welcome, from remembering our coffee and tea preferences to preparing breakfast for us to take in our rooms if we had to leave early, e.g., if we had a tour booked. She also asked us daily if we needed our room cleaned or needed extra toiletries etc., so cannot fault her one bit.
Breakfast was nice, with a range of choices muesli, yoghurts, fresh bread, ham, cheese, jams, juices and cakes.
Areas for improvement:
I would recommend changing the person checking guests in, as we found Susanna to be rather cold and hostile, which isnt great as it was my partner's first time in a foreign country.
In terms of the room, I found the images to be misleading and upon further inspection, noticed that the pictures had been taken from the corridor and inside the shower to make the room look bigger. The bathroom was especially small, as you could reach the sink while sat on the toilet and the shower was so small that I often accidentally turned the shower off while showering.
The locks definitely need to be changed so you cant open somebodys door from corridor (unless they physically lock it) or can see through the locks into the room.
Also, a minor detail, but a balcony and vatican wall view would have been nicer considering we stayed 7 nights compared to 1 or 2.
- Timothy (8/5): Quick visit , close to vatican. - Quick visit to Rome before airport. Overall, the place was nice, close to vatican, in a nice area close to subway. Bed wasnt very comfortable and the pillows were lumpy. Room was small but functional. Nice breakfast was served the next day, good value stay!
- Jemma (10/5): - Great B&B. There are three rooms in total in the house and one shared living area, but very sound proof and private.
The location is great, right next to the Vatican and loads of restaurants and a 5 min walk to the metro station.
The ladies in the morning that make the breakfast up are so kind.
Enjoyed our stay thanks!
- Garfield (6/5): - This property is not an hotel. The picture you see is that of an apartment building and the b&b is a unit with two rooms. No front desk. A lady will meet you at the time of arrival who speaks very very little English. She comes of as a matter of fact but she is actually nice. She will help you as much as she can which is very little. The place as a kitchen but no stove which leads to the breakfast. I is a cold cut with bread, butter, pastry, yogurt and coffee. The same every morning. It does save you some money. If you are looking at this place you are money conscious. After breakfast she cleane and leaves. The place is clean, safe and steps from the Vatican. The room is private with it's own bathroom. Just don't expect an hotel with front desk.
- Josue (8/5): - Todo excelente, muy buen punto, limpio, cuarto decente
Punto a mejorar desayuno muy básico deben mejorar .
- Gavin (10/5): - The location of Allegra's House is one of its best selling points. It's within about 10 minutes walk of St Peter's Square and the nearest metro station, and it's easy to walk into the centre of Rome. In fact, we hardly used the metro during our stay.
The property itself is compact. We had a room with a double bed and en suite facilities (the shower was excellent). Breakfast was included, served to us by either Carla or Lucrezia, and consisted of the typical continental breakfast - bread, meat, cheese, fruit, yoghurt and of course coffee.
Our only problem was one of our own making. Although we had told Expedia what time we would arrive at the house, our hosts had not been made aware of this. Please, any future travellers, remember to contact the owner Alessandro the day before you arrive. There is no-one on site to let you in to the building so they have to get there to let you in.
Overall this was a very comfortable place to stay and a great base for our Roman holiday.
- Ruth (10/5): We’ll be back! - Convenient location, friendly staff, great breakfast and wifi - all at a great price! What’s not to like!?!
- Darlene (8/5): - Great property and host. Would stay here again.
- mihaly (10/5): - Brilliant location. Room was small bit comfy enough. Breakfast was ok. Host was very pleasant and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Highly Recommend! - The stay was amazing! The host was very friendly, willing to help, and provided great services. The room was very spacious and could accommodate up to four people, and the terrace was perfect for late night snacks or breakfast. The only thing was the Wi-Fi was a bit slow in the room we stayed in. However, we had a wonderful time here, and easily the best stay we had during the entire trip!
- Tania (10/5): - Very friendly host. Nice place next to busstation and metro station. Walking distance to Basiilco and Museo Vaticano. Overall a very good experience. I would stay there again for sure.
- Belle (10/5): - This is a hidden gem. It’s like staying with the locals in a typical Roman apartment building, very secure and not noisy. The location couldn’t be better, 5min to the left is St Peter’s Square, 5min to the right is the Vatican Museum entrance. There’s a metro stop close by and a taxi stand but we just took electric scooters everywhere. I highly recommend the scooters! The room was very clean, the bed comfortable and we appreciated the air conditioning. It’s also nice to have a mini fridge and complimentary water. There’s a supermarket at 4mins if you need to get some supplies. Alessandro and Letitzia are very friendly and offered lots of useful tips. And they suggested we try the local restaurant La Locanda which had the best spaghetti carbonara. We’d stay here again, thanks Alessandro and Letitzia!
- KathyandSteve (10/5): - This was an amazing little place. Perfectly located. Alessandro and Lartissama were wonderful. Breakfast each morning was very Italian and felt so at home. Room and everything was very clean. Was able to drop off our stuff early, eventhough room wasn’t ready. Gave us a map and water and helped us navigate. Would stay again and definetly recommend .
- DEWAYNE (6/5): Nice, clean room, friendly staff, great location! - The location of Allegra's House is a definite plus if you're looking for someplace within walking distance of all the main attractions in Rome. It is situated right behind the Vatican and about a 2-3 mile walk (or bus ride) to the coliseum and surrounding attractions.
We had some difficultly with our check in process - but once we were able to get in, our stay was good. The quarters are kind of tight but the other guests were quiet and the place is very secure. Breakfast with Letitsia (I'm sure I'm butchering her name) is very nice - she is there with a smile, a very simple but tasty breakfast, and as much coffee as you want to drink. The owner can arrange transportation for you with enough notice and they are very helpful with whatever you might want or need.
- Gail (8/5): Get directions and use wifi to call owner before - Breakfast was very good. There was no one to let us into the building for a long time and we had to ask a local to call the owner. Toilet was very loud with growling and owner said no technician would come, because it was Saturday night. Owner suggested we unplug the toilet. That was a big mistakes the toilet leaked all over the floor and we had to clean up all the water with the towel.
The shower is very small, but the room is colorful, nice and comfortable.
- Silvestre (10/5): Quaint little hotel, worth the stay. - We got to our hotel way later than anticipated due to a flight delay. Alessandro was extremely accommodating even going as far as helping us secure transportation. He communicated with me when I first booked which was months ago and touched based right before we got there. The location is literally across the street from the Vatican which was AMAZING! Train is super close but if you love to walk everywhere is essentially walking distance. The accommodations include breakfast which is continental and delicious. There were two ladies there (one each morning) and they were so NICE!!!! My family really loved Rome and a huge part of that was due to Allegra’s house. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great B&B at an amazing price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I was greeted by a very friendly and helpful young lady, you go through the kitchen/dining area to the bedrooms. Mine was spacious, scrupulously clean and tastefully decorated, as was the bathroom. There is access to fresh fruit, tea and coffee at all times. Although the B&B is in the centre of Rome, within a few 100m of the Vatican it is in a gated complex with further security to get into the building.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staying here was such a great choice. It is close to the bus and metro, food, and vatican city. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful and easy to contact. I would definitely stay here again.
- Deanne (10/5): Perfect for visiting Vatican area sights - Allegra's house was great value for a family of four, the room was clean and spacious and the location was perfect for visiting the sights in the Vatican area. It was close to a metro stop which also made it easy to explore the rest of the city. The morning breakfast was simple but nice with good variety and the service was very friendly. The only slight hitch was with check in; we arrived a little earlier than we had originally expected and our messages went unanswered for about 30 minutes which was a bit frustrating. Once we were checked in, however, everything else about our stay was excellent.
