- Chris (10/5): Unexpected surprise. Never knew it was there. A hidden gem - Spacious and well laid out
Amazing pool deck with lots of sun and shade
- Henta (9/5): -
- Safari620588 (10/5): Happy stay - Everything we wanted and more. Location, history of building, very efficient staff who were friendly. Very , very close to beach and walk in to town. Room was excellent and very quiet.
- Sarah (10/5): - Beautiful. Located in the heart of Plett and a quick stroll away from the beach, yet in an amazingly tranquil spot, surrounded by greenery and ancient trees. The staff were outstanding.
- glasgow99 (10/5): An Oasis in Plettenburg Bay - Stunningly good hotel from the staff to the food and the amazingly comfortable rooms and bed. Tranquil gardens/pool areas flanked by the outdoor restaurant area. Very close to the stunning beach. Short uphill walk to the main town/restaurants and high street area. Would highly recommend.
- Jäger (10/5): -
- Jerry (9/5): -
- Urs (8/5): -
- TKTK18 (10/5): Great location! Great premise! Walkable to beach - Super relaxing stay in great location (both the hotel itself and very walkable surroundings).
We got very special help with sorting out our passport issues. Thank you!!!
- Manoke (10/5): - The staff were exceptionally friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant offered good food at reasonable prices. Nothing.
- aimée (8/5): -
- Elaine (7/5): - The room had no seating area other than one chair (and the bed). It would be nice to have at least 2 chairs inside and/or a small couch.
- Anisha Salamuddi (10/5): -
- HappyBruce (10/5): An absolute delight - Our stay at The Old Rectory was a wonderful way to end our South Africa trip. From the minute we arrived, everyone made every effort to ensure we had total customer satisfaction - and they succeeded completely. A huge thank you to Leon and his team for such a wonderful experience.
- Francine (9/5): -
- Mark (9/5): - Die Dusche ist originell, aber unpraktisch. Das Wasser ist teilweise ins Zimmer gelaufen
- Wolfgang (10/5): - Top Abendessen im Restaurant
- 745jjw (2/5): General Manager is the worst - We have been going to the restaurant now for 6 times. The experience regarding the food is so good. Chef Julia and her kitchen staff is such a treasure HOWEVER, the Manager Leon is such a arrogant person, treating his waiters and Kitchen staff badly and wow, he is not dressed to be a manager. We laughed because we saw a few times that he doesn't ware socks. On that particular Wednesday he was using his hands touching the staff.
- Gabrielle (8/5): Very nice. The staff are superb, the decor is so tasteful. the fireplace was a highlight. - The breakfast was so-so. It would be nice to have a better choice of breads and a better selection of fresh fruit.
We LOVED our room decor and the tastefulness of the entire public areas. So well done. It would be lovely to have a list somewhere of the various pieces of art and their creator. We were put in a room that was not what we paid for which was a pool view room. The only view was a wall. Rather confining.
We ate one meal there which was NOT good. THe carpaccio was not a carpaccio and slightly cooked. My sandwich was three layers of bread. Too much. The menu has a nice selection including small items such as sandwiches. Make a simple toastie or sandwich. After our first night experience we went to eat out instead which is a shame. Everything else was so lovely.
- Juliegold6 (10/5): Charming old school luxury - I cannot fault the Old Rectory. Steeped in history, the house and all the rooms are spacious and spotlessly maintained by the staff. The pool area is very welcoming with lovely padded sun loungers and cushions. We had breakfast on the shaded terrace each morning. The food for breakfast and dinner was well cooked and beautifully presented. the hotel is a 5 minute walk to the beach.
All the staff, from reception to bar staff, to maids and gardeners were all so friendly and helpful. Thank you all for making our trip so memorable. We will definitely be back to beautiful Plettenberg and the Old Rectory
- liz (10/5): Delightful stay. - Lovely intimate hotel very close to the centre of Plett which is a delightful town and well worth a visit. Shout out to the staff for getting us a doctors appointment so quickly. Would highly recommend The Old Rectory. I would prefer the hotel to be adults only, the space around the pool is too intimate for noisy kids. But apart from that it was perfect.
- sarahpN5213SP (10/5): Luxury hideaway - Fabulous boutique hotel that just thought about everything! Great room, exceptionally well designed, great situation and excellent staff!
- catherinerC5804JP (10/5): A perfect evening with friends - We came for dinner on a difficult day, and the whole experience was excellent from start to finish.
The service, food, staff and surroundings were perfect, it’s a total hidden gem oasis away from the busy high street and 5 mins from the stunning beach.
Wish we had been staying there instead of the noisy hight street.
- Peaceman (10/5): Excellent facility and human touch. Will definitely return to this place. - Comfort, lovely decor, cleanliness and location which is a stone throw to the beautiful beach. The staff at this hotel are amazing. Very serene place for relaxation and close to main attractions. Nothing really
- Trip510287 (10/5): Exception stay in Plettenberg Bay - Exceptional hotel. A perfect place stay for a relaxing and unforgettable few days. Would very much like to return again.
- MICHAEL (10/5): - Excellent staff and vibe Nil
- Weren (9/5): Homey feeling away from home - The old VOC building breathes history, the personnel makes you feel at home, the location is central though secluded and close to the beach. -
- Frank (8/5): -
- Martin (9/5): - Lage, Beach, Pool, Charming Place
- Nehan (10/5): -
- Elscha2026 (10/5): Family friendly gem in Plett - Our family had a wonderful stay at this warm and welcoming hotel . It was such a joy to be 1munute walk away from the beach and our rooms were incredibly comfortable . Mom and dad could also relax whilst our every need was catered to .
- Steph (10/5): -
- andye873 (10/5): Ambience and Staff were amazing - The hotel was well located with a beautiful setting around the pool and dining area. The staff were incredibly warm and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others.
- Svensson (8/5): -
- nataliee775 (10/5): Fantastic Stay - Exceptional Service, great location and amazing holiday. Also had a great New years Eve dinner, the additional live music added to the ambiance at the pool and dining area.
- Hans (8/5): -
- Andy (9/5): A great place to stay if you want to go to Plattenburg Bay. It’s a small but really relaxed option with amazing staff an - It beautiful and so relaxed Nothing
- MORGAN (10/5): Two days of complete relaxation, fantastic service, great food, lovely chill time at the pool & dips in the ocean! - The pool area is heavenly, it’s just 1 minute to the beach for a swim, the staff are unbelievable and the hotel just has a lovely relaxed and effortless feel to it! The restaurant is amazing too, honestly didn’t need to leave the hotel for 2 days! It really is the best boutique hotel I have ever stayed in!
- nilukshid2017 (10/5): Stay here in Plett! - We stayed at The Old Rectory for three nights and had such a cozy, warm, and welcoming experience. The staff are exceptional and incredibly accommodating. The food was delicious, and we would highly recommend dining there, thank you to Chef Jules. The beach setup is perfect, with deck chairs, towels, and sun umbrellas provided. We would definitely stay here again.
- 87maria1966 (10/5): Best of Plettenberg Bay, true boutique hotel at the close proximity - Old Rectory Hotel is charming , historical building in the heart of Plettenberg Bay and at the close proximity of the beautiful beach . Exceptional team will make sure your stay is extra memorable and food is world class !
- Wulz Wolvaardt (5/5): Not great and expected more for that price per night yyy - Location The rooms are extremely small with no view and outdoor cold small enclosed garden area and is very poor value for money . The basin tap shot off on its own and water sprayed all over the bathroom . Service of waitress at pool and breakfast very poor and slow . Food was fine but for example breakfast eggs arrived at table all cold and toast was not brought at the same time as the eggs (forgotten) and salt shaker was broken , my son didn’t get a fork after asking twice etc … nobody walked around asking to take drink orders regularly when at the pool , the trees in the entrance area really have a terrible scent turning you off when walking around outside … all in all quite disappointed ! I rather spend 8 k more per night and stay and the Plettenberg hotel (also known to me as a guest there) with a bath and shower in your room (not just a shower as was on offer with this particular room ) and a swimming pool which is heated overlooking the ocean with stunning views from all rooms and proper service 24 hours and eager staff and friendly support etc .
- jasmine (10/5): The Old Rectory is very unique hotel that offers old time charm in the modern comfort . Friendly stuff went out of their - Old time charm with a modern twist
- nicolagubb (10/5): Many happy returns - This gem of a boutique hotel always delivers! Personalized service, lovely rooms and wonderful location.
- Leanne (10/5): -
- carolinehegney (10/5): One of my favourite places in South Africa! - We really enjoyed our stay at The Old Rectory Hotel. The team were incredibly attentive and friendly during our stay, and we enjoyed a delicious dinner too.
The room was magnificent and romantic, and we really enjoyed a dip in the salt water pool too.
Thank you for a wonderful stay, and the only downside was that one night wasn't long enough!
- FRANCOIS (10/5): - Location and food Nothing
- Z9524YEmichaelh (10/5): Super Hotel in Plett - Very nice place with very friendly staff. The whole Hotel is very tasteful furnished. The diner was excellent with very good ingedients and also the breakfast buffet was mega..
- richard (10/5): Real 5 star luxury boutique hotel - I am not usually one for 5* proper boutique hotels, but as I was travelling down the garden route with my mother, I decided she should have a really spoiling stay one of the nights. It was worth it, everything was a step up from the other places we've stayed, the attentive, helpful and on the ball staff, the excellent drinks, brilliant breakfast and the ambiance of the place.
It's a real gem and protected from the wind too.
- Angelika (10/5): - Sehr gutes Frühstück.
Ein altes Pfarrhaus aufwendig restauriert. Balkontüre schwer zuöffnen und zu schliessen.
- naqvi (10/5): -
- Jochen (10/5): 5 Sterne - 5 Sterne Service
5 Sterne Übernachtung
5 Sterne Restaurant und Bewirtung
5 Sterne Lage Es gibt nichts negatives über The Old Rectory zu berichten…
- Abid (10/5): Very satisfying - Everything! Nothing!
- Claudia (10/5): -
- Alessandra (9/5): -
- Janine (10/5): Sublime - The room was amazing. The staff were fabulous. One evening meal was disappointing.
- Linda (8/5): - Comfortable charming boutique hotel
- 1Pen60 (10/5): Staying at The Old Rectory, Plettenburg - Staying at the Old Rectory was part of a planned trip across South Africa. I was a solo traveler but the staff at the hotel made me feel so welcome. Staff were friendly and helpful as my stay was short one and the reception staff helped me book an excursion that I'm sure would have taken me twice as long to sort out. Room was great and comfortable and again the staff were helpful on where to go and what to see. The restaurant served up some fab food its a shame it was only a short visit. Just so people know the hotel is only 10 mins walk to the beach. A great experience and I would recommend.
- AMTLondon (10/5): Charming hotel with great service - We were travelling around SA with friends and family and this was our first stay after our safari. We stayed 3 nights which allowed us to explore the area. It’s close to the beach and it was nice to walk along the front. We had a double room with a small patio which was very comfortable. Service was excellent with charming and helpful staff. Breakfast was very good and by the weekend there was a cold buffet set up with sparkling wine. We arrived late and just managed to get served in the restaurant. The food was good and we ate there again as it was better than what we found in town. The bar area is nice but we were there in low season so it wasn’t open past 9 pm. Sadly it was too cold to use the pool. Would definitely return.
- Julie (10/5): Fabulous - Beautifully decorated, fantastic staff, this hotel is chic full of history. Loved it All great
- Arnd (10/5): -
- Henrike (10/5): - Alles sehr schön gestaltet, unglaublich aufmerksamer Service in Zimmern und Restaurant. Nichts
- plvcboujon (10/5): Great experience in Plettenberg - Lovely stay in a great seaside location, but one waiter was a little rough/stressed.
Room was a little far from main building
- Jane (10/5): A real treat. Expensive for locals, but it was a special occassion. - Beautifully situated, fabulous decor, lovely sized rooms with a private garden. The restaurant was fabulous as was the outside pool and garden area. Nothing - it was fabulous
- LEON (9/5): A BEAUTIFUL STOP OVER HOTEL - WILL DEFINITEL BE BACK! - LOCATION WAS UNFORTUNATELY NO SEA VIEW - BREAKFAST AND DINNER WAS EXCELLENT! COULD HAVE A FULL LENGTH MIRROR SOMEWHERE IN THE ROOM OTHERWISE A LOVELY EXPERIENCE. STAFF WERE EXCELLENT! NOTHING!
- Katie (10/5): - We loved our stay in the Old Rectory. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. They went above and beyond to make us feel at home in the hotel. Thanks to Marvin on reception for the great tips on what to do and where to go, and to Johnny, Fortune, the girls at breakfast and all the staff for making our stay extra special. The women at breakfast also gave my husband a cake and sang him happy birthday on the morning of his birthday which was a lovely touch.
The rooms, food and service were all exceptional. Clean rooms and comfy beds. We had dinner in the restaurant when we landed and the food was all delicious..
The drinks were also great, especially while getting to enjoy them in front of the open fire.
We also loved the turn down service and the extra special touches like the poems left on the bed and the hot water bottles in the bed for winter.
Would highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Plettenberg.
- Kkells (10/5): - We loved our stay in the Old Rectory. We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon trip along the Garden Route.

- Sheldon (10/5): Epic! -
- megan758 (10/5): Exceptional experience - The Old Rectory is beautiful and steeped in history. It’s perfectly located being just a two minute walk to the beach. The bedroom we stayed in was fantastic with a stocked mini bar and a huge bath. I loved the bunnies in the garden and the warm, welcoming atmosphere.
- Stephanie (9/5): -

We loved that it has a history and it has a heritage from the 1700’s. Nothing.
- TLEAVES27 (10/5): Boutique Experience with perfect location - Perfect time of the year to stay at hotel, good weather , not busy, excellent spa, amazing breakfast, very good mattress and linens , close to beach you can walk there barefoot and the most FANTASTIC staff who give 5 star service with a smile
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- hc1401 (10/5): Outstanding stay - An outstanding place to stay.
Located close to the beach and the centre of Plettenberg Bay.
The welcome at check in was warm and genuine while also feeling very professional.
The public spaces are lovely. There is a pleasant small bar, a sitting area beside an open fire and then outdoor seating also. All is beautifully maintained and very comfortable.
The bedrooms likewise are very comfortable.....clean, modern and well appointed.
Breakfast was lovely - we ate outside and it was very pleasant.
The service was of the highest quality. The staff were friendly but yet professional. Quite unique compared to anywhere else i have stayed, they seemed to know when we were at breakfast and by the time we got back after breakfast, the room had already been cleaned. There was also a turn down service - again they seemed to know when we weren't there and it was done!
I strongly recommend this lovely hotel.
- Heidi (7/5): Good but could be better! - The location is fantastic, just a stone’s throw from the beach. We stayed in Room 1, which had a few issues during our stay. Unfortunately, our kettle wasn’t working, and although we requested a replacement at reception, it never arrived. The toilet also had a very unpleasant smell, so we had to keep the door shut and window open throughout our stay. There was also a constant fan-like noise outside our room at night, which was a bit disruptive.
On a more positive note, the breakfasts were lovely, and we really enjoyed the dinner on our first night. Despite some teething problems, the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
- rogermU6363AU (10/5): Amazing stay at the Old Rectory - We spent 2 night at the hotel and we enjoyed our stay from the moment we checked in. The staff was really friendly and helpful.
We stayed in a room with a private garden and we loved it.
Furthermore I would like to say, that the pool area is very well maintened which gives to this area a nice atmosphere. The pool service was also great.
Finally, I would like to point out that the food was also delicious. We enjoyed the breakfast as well as the dinner at the hotel.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely hotel with fantastic staff. Nothing is too much trouble and made to feel so welcome.
- Elmien (9/5): Superb -
- styroe1 (10/5): A special hotel set in beautiful grounds - This is a marvellous hotel full of charm and character. Set in beautiful grounds with excellent facilities, be sure to use the spa… the treatments are amazing. The 1777 restaurant in the hotel is beautiful and the service excellent. All the staff were very helpful and attentive.
- spursfanlondon (10/5): Luxury with personality - This small hotel is bursting with personality. The charm of the rooms and common areas makes you feel as if you are staying in someone's home - but with wonderful staff! It is both relaxing and comfortable and yet every need is met by someone with a smile! A special mention for the amazing massages we had in the spa!
- Peter (9/5): Great Place to stay - Lovely position Food could be better but nice breakfast
- Anthony (10/5): Wonderful hotel close to the beach with amazing charm - Very relaxed atmosphere, staff were very attentive Nothing at all
- jmbaster (10/5): Switch off and relax - The Old Rectory Hotel is the right place to relax. They can easily spoil you taking care of everything for you. A charming and quiet hotel, small, luxury and an spectacular and helpful staff. Very well located, surrounded by good restaurants as same as a walking distance to some good shops on the main road of Plettenberg Bay. Looking forward to return!
- Sian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Briony (10/5): A relaxing and peaceful stay in a lovely hotel in the beautiful town of Plettenberg Bay - A really cosy and welcoming property but with all the hotel amenities you’d expect. Great location (you can hear the waves on the beach) although it’s a steep walk up into the town - not a problem as we made this our daily exercise! Nothing not to like really. The pool area is fairly shady which is welcome most of the day.
- badtravellernorfolk (10/5): Outstanding stay - perfect quiet location and relaxed luxury - We choose this hotel because of the proximity to the beach and also the town. It’s a very steep walk up into town but we enjoyed stretching our legs and appreciated the peace and calm at the hotel. There’s a real ‘family’ feel and a relaxed but professional atmosphere throughout the hotel and spa. We loved the breakfasts, lunches, pool area, comfortable lounges and our room was large and airy with a private garden. Leon and his team created the perfect environment for a relaxing couple of days. Have to also mention The Fat Fish just along the beach and Eleven for coffee in the town.
- Olivia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sophie (9/5): Superb -
- Lena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (9/5): Enjoyable overnight stop on the garden route - Relaxed vibe Not enough day beds around the pool
- clarew171 (10/5): Plettenberg Stay - A gem of a find. Beautiful boutique hotel with excellent staff. We are used to Four Seasons standard of staff and the staff at The Old Rectory met the same excellent standard. A great stay. We will be back.
- Laura (10/5): 10 out of 10 - would recommend 100% - Perfect stay, 10/0 - would book it again anytime and recommend it to everyone. The staff is great, pool & grounds gorgeous, room super large and nicely furnished. 1.5 minute walk to the beach, generally great location. Everything perfect
