Guest Reviews
- William (8/5): -
- Simon (7/5): Very convenient for visiting Oxford - Fine Nothing
- JASON (10/5): Top place. Central location, 100% would book again - Very central, very nice rooms. N/a
- Samuel (1/5): -
- John (10/5): - What I asked for
- Penny (9/5): -
- YI (10/5): The staff were incredibly friendly, kindly upgrading our room, and we had the most comfortable bed w - I would like to highly recommend this hotel in Oxford. The staff were extremely warm and friendly, and they kindly upgraded our queen-size bed room to a twin room for free. The guest rooms are cosy and well-kept. The beds are incredibly comfortable, which are the best I have slept in during my whole trip across the UK. All team members offer thoughtful and polite service, bringing us a wonderful and satisfying staying experience.
- PRITHIJIT (6/5): - Other than the great location, the hotel is adequate but underwhelming. We were in a basement, windowless room. The phone to the reception didn’t work and online request was answered but nobody showed up.
- Amandine (10/5): -
- jeffseed (10/5): - Every member of staff was very friendly, the location was excellent and the room was modern, comfortable spacious and clean
- Colette Van Sertima (5/5): More like a 4 star hotel than 5. Over priced. - It was located near the shops. The beds were comfortable. The staff were helpful. Considering the amount we paid for our stay I was very disappointed with the room we were given and the lack of facilities this hotel had to offer. It definitely was not value for money. My mum and I booked to stay here for 4 nights. We booked a twin room. There was no veranda and our room was really small. The wardrobe could not fully open and had damage where it scraped against the bedside draw unit as you tried to open it in full. We paid over £800 for 4 nights. There was no breakfast included in that price and no parking. Luckily, we organised to register our car for disability parking, or my mum would not have been able to cope.
Please note that if you are disabled, you have to register your car with the council at least 10 days before your trip . This allows you to park and drive in central Oxford without getting a ticket or to pay a congestion charge.
Going back to the hotel. After complaining about the room. We were offered another room the next day. This was better, but for a 5-star hotel, it was still very disappointing. The blind was broken in the room, and it was still small. The shower was fixed on the wall and was not very powerful either. I would definitely put this as a 4-star hotel, not 5.
I travelled a lot and stayed at much better hotels that were lower rated but provided better facilities. Far too expensive for what they offer, which is not much. If you use a local car park, it is £41 per night.
For breakfast, they recommend a cafe that is connected to the hotel. Again, that is expensive for what you have. I got burnt pancakes and the bill for breakfast was £40.00. 😏
- Dionne (10/5): GREAT LOCATION GREAT STAFF GREAT PLACE - GREAT WELCOME, GREAT LOCATION ROOM CLEAN AND SPACIOUS, PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A HOTEL WITH BAR / ROOM SERVICE WHICH WE KNEW ABOUT AND WAS HAPPY WITH BUT FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WANT THAT THEN THIS ISNT THE PLACE BUT FOR US IT WAS EXEPTIONAL I ENJOYED IT ALL
- Pauline (7/5): - The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was central to everything. Our room was on 'lower ground' basically in the basement without any window or access to daylight/air.
This was not explained to us before we arrived.
In the night I felt very anxious and unable to sleep as I am unused to sleeping in a room without a window and air.
It would have been helpful to have this explained to us before our stay so that we could have reviewed our options.
On the day as check-in is not until 3.00 p.m. and we were rushing to get to a graduation event, we did not have time to think about requesting an alternative room.

- Wilhelmus (7/5): -
- Yvonne (10/5): We will be back next year - Extremely clean comfortable Staff were very polite and helpful
- Violeta (5/5): -
- Paula (7/5): -
- Aleksandra (7/5): -
- Hans (5/5): - Great location. More a "rent a room" then a 4 star hotel.
- caroline (8/5): Location good, but travel by public transport. - Location was superb for the theatre. Driving to the hotel, as I have walking difficulties... didn't appreciate couldn't park outside whilst un loading. Getting to the car park which we had the postcode for, with all the Driving restrictions.... and congestion charges. We ended up paying £90 on surcharges. Appreciate this wasn't the hotels problem, but perhaps should be hilighted in their information, that Driving and parking is not recommended for this city centre hotel.
- Angela (8/5): - No windows
- Russell (10/5): Excellent hotel in great location with friendly staff - Staff were very helpful and replied to emails sent before arrival quickly. Great location right in the centre. We had a room at the back (309) so had no street noise at all. Nice toiletries and bathroom Only very slight niggle would be the sliding bathroom door which had no lock. Was sharing with a friend and there was always a small gap visible
- Caroline (8/5): My bien ubicada - Muy bien situada El ventilador en el
Habitación hacia mucho ruido. La cama no estaba muy cómodo
- Julia (10/5): Great location, charming little hotel. - It’s a beautiful charming little hotel.
Brilliant location, super friendly staff. Nothing
- James (8/5): - Lovely helpful smiling welcoming staff. Great location, just 9 minutes from station. Balcony with street view (opposite the New Theatre). Owned by an independent family, who clearly cares about its clients. We would definitely return From the outside, the street is quite run down, and the entrance to the hotel is unassuming. You need to go up in the lift to get to reception. From thereon it is all lovely. Not super modern, more old style inside.
Practical note: it does not serve breakfast, not a problem as there are loads of wonderful cafes in Oxford.
- Hazel (7/5): -
- Maggie (10/5): - Very central
Walk to train station
Clean n comfortable
Two lovely ladies on reception Might have been nice to have had a waiting area in reception
- SU CHING (10/5): -
- russell (10/5): George street hotel. - Reception staff, very welcoming and knowledgeable about the city. Very impressive interior designs. Very clean.
- Justin (9/5): -
- AE (7/5): OK but overpriced in context of misleading listing - Staff very friendly and helpful with early check in Was listed as 5* - hence the price - but I don't know how this could be classed as such
- Viola (10/5): -
- Keith (1/5): Disgusting value for money - Shower worked well The bathroom toilet would not flush, reported to staff but not fixed.
No message left or room change provided when we returned to hotel at 23.45.
Hotel states - Soundproofed - kept awake until 2am by night revellers in the nightclub next door shouting in the street. At 5am awoken by road sweepers cleaning George street - all audible in the room.
Hotel states - CITY VIEW our room 105 looks across the road at the side of the rundown New Oxford Theatre and dirty shop fronts
Hotel states TEA/ COFFEE MAKER none in the room only kettle
We booked via Booking.com website a DELUX ROOM no were to put your luggage accept on the smallest bed iv seen in a 5 star hotel or on the floor
Prior to leav8ng on Sunday morning i requested a full refund having to flush the toilet filling the room waste bin with water from the bathroom sink - for £172 absolutely disgusting
Booking ref 6821656105
- Eve (8/5): Great central location - Location is excellent. Good beds and sheets. Some rooms are quite narrow and dark. Windows don’t open so no fresh air.
- Finnuala (8/5): Very central clean hotel with character - Nice location very central. Quiet enough but can sometimes hear other guests. The bed is comfy and everything is nicely done. The hotel has character and the staff are great. If you don’t book a luxury room you won’t get a balcony so light is limited but not bad for a short stay.
- Carlo (9/5): -
- Joaquim (9/5): - Situació. Amabilitat del personal
- Dr (10/5): Comfortable , helpful and at home - Everything about the property was excellent excellent customer service
- Russell (9/5): Was in Oxford for a reunion and the hotel was very much fit for purpose. - Location excellent and clean room Nothing
- susan (4/5): It served its purpose for the location - The location It was dated and unkept
- Cochran (10/5): -
- Maria (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful reception staff.
Able to leave luggage prior to checking in and after checking out.
Room was spotlessly clean, mirrors sparkling. Our fault, but if you want a good breakfast remember to book at the Oxford Brunch Bar, literally next door, 10% discount to hotel guests. People were queueing in the street to get in. Don't be tempted to try the George Street Social Club, just down the road, it was awful.
- JC (8/5): -
- Alasdair Harris (5/5): -
- Sabine (8/5): - Geräumiges schönes Doppelzimmer zur Einzelnutzung. Sehr zentral.
- Ian (8/5): - the location was great my room did not have any windows.
- Ragnvald (7/5): - God beliggenhet. Enkle men ok rom
- Julie-ann (9/5): -
- Foltz (10/5): -
- anastasia (9/5): Wonderful staff, excellent central location. We will definitely return. - The staff are absolutely wonderful. They were always on hand to help and always with a smile. The atmosphere was happy and welcoming from the minute we arrived until we left. My only disappointment was we asked for three single beds as we were 3 ladies in our sixties sharing. But the extra bed was a temp bed like a strong camp bed. But we still all enjoyed our stay. It is on the main road opposite a big theatre and next to a pub so it does get noisy late at night.
Also the third bed was a disappointment
- Simon (10/5): - Bath & shower outside balcony. Victorian decoration. No apps on tv for catch up ect such as I played & itv app.
- Kathryn (9/5): Great location and staff - Location was great, staff was fantastic, beds were comfortable We were in a basement room with no windows. The bathroom had bad lighting. Some of the light switches didn’t work
- Sarah (8/5): -
- Adrien (10/5): -
- Shi Yunn (5/5): -
- Susanna (10/5): Really really good. Highly recommend - The staff were so lovely….very helpful. It ewas such good value for a central hotel in Oxford. There was a fabulous cafe next door for breakfast. Loved it. Toilet flusher was stiff to push
- Mark (8/5): In all, lovely hosts and good sleeping! - The location was terrific! I had trouble working the thermostat, but opening the window helped a lot.
I DID NOT LIKE the toilet setup in room 101, however!! The positioning of the actual toilet (stool) necessitated keeping one’s legs in a position that did not allow for proper hygiene!!!
Though I generally don’t like the waterfall shower head, I WAS able to tilt it to avoid inundating my entire head! See above.
- sandra (7/5): Nice stay but although room was checked found nuts an the floor that hadn’t been hoovered - Excellent location No bar or restaurant there .
- Ilona (10/5): -
- Yuval (8/5): -
- Rosemarie (8/5): Heerlijk - De locatie was centraal gelegen. Douche was heerlijk.
- David (4/5): - This is one weird place. No public rooms or service at all, you go into a corridor from the street into a lift to reception then to your room. Period decoration rather nice and staff friendly. But this is NOT a 4 star hotel. See above
- Adelgisa (10/5): - Beautiful easy to get to comfortable and good
- Juan M. (8/5): -
- Guest (9/5): -
- Larry (1/5): Poor - Location was great Rooms had no windows or phone reception was like a dungeon
- Namgyel (9/5): If Oxford, Choose The George Street Hotel - The room was huge, and the services were excellent. The washroom is disability friendly. The hotel entrance could be improved significantly.
- Mark (8/5): -
- Mairwen (9/5): Perfect location, ideal if you chose to use park and ride - Excellent location - really central! We stayed in a basement room, which was a bit small for 2 people, and the flush on the toilet was very annoying.
- Emma (6/5): Prima verblijf in Oxford - Prima verblijf, goede locatie.
- Pagonidis (6/5): -
- Julia (7/5): -
- Petra (10/5): Lovely Hotel in the city centre - The room was very spacious it had enough room for 3. It was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The location is great everything in close proximity.
- Cagla (10/5): Exceptional hotel - I loved everything. The staff was most helpful. The location was exceptional. The rooms were clean and pretty. The products (shampoo etc) were of highest quality and we had room service everyday. After seeing this hotel, I felt pity for the hotels that I praised in the United States. It is even better than the Hilton hotels in the Unites States. Nothing
- Max (10/5): - Very comfortable room in a great location
- Ruchika (5/5): - Location was great and the check in/out process was pretty quick. The hotel is definitely not a 5-star property.
Reception is small and located on the 1st floor, and there is only one lift shared by guests, staff, and maintenance, which can be quite inconvenient. There is no room service, no restaurant, and no breakfast offering - all of which you would expect from a hotel of this category.
The most surprising part was when I called reception to request a moisturiser and was told that “management has discontinued moisturisers for superior rooms.” Quite strange and not in line with any 5-star experience.
I think the experience would've been great if the expectations were set better.

Proprio nulla, tutto perfetto.
- Tracey (7/5): - Style of bedrooms and bathrooms good although rooms very small. Liked lift between floors, particularlyas reception is on first floor. . Staff very friendly. Only one tea bag per person! Hotel not cheap so expect at least 3!!
Two lights and bathroom extractor not working. When bathroom has no windows an extractor is needed!
When entering the building off the street there is no sign to say reception is on the first floor!
No bar or restaurant - direct you to different businesses located either side of the hotel. Again, given the price of the hotel I would expect at least a bar/cafe area for refreahments & snacks so that itbis not necessary tomleave the building. Or lower the room prices!
- Robert (7/5): The room was ok, the staff very nice but the facilities were zero! - Clean and comfortable. No breakfast, no bar. Not easy to locate!
- Jonathan (4/5): - Location, staff, Windowless room. Claustrophobic. Could not sleep
- Laura Teague (9/5): -
- Linda (8/5): -
- Widya (10/5): -
- Mariam (7/5): - location non stop drilling and buzzing noises in ‘quiet’ category room.
- Edwards (5/5): OKAY - - BED AND BATH WERE COMFORTABLE THE ROOM WAS VERY HOT AND SO WE OPENED THE WINDOWS TO GET AIR; AS A RESULT ALL NIGHT WE HEARD AN EXTRAORDINARY AMOUNT OF STREET NOISE IN THE FORM OF. INDIVIDUALS SHOUTING ALL NIGHT -AT LEAST UNTIL 4 AM WHICH MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SLEEP. ROOM WAS SMALLER THAN I EXPECTED.
- peter (6/5): - Location Not good value
- Richard (10/5): -
- Ningning (9/5): Very positive and impressive - Staff was really friendly and warm. Great location with decent restaurants and bars nearby. Facilities are well maintained. Free bottled water and snacks are definitely a plus in the UK. The AC was blowing to the left side of the bed, making it really cold on the left but hot on the right lol but it was not a big deal. The price is indeed high but maybe it's just Oxford price...
- Goodall (6/5): Good welcome Excellent location - Great location for theatre Nowhere to sit and relax Expensive
