Guest Reviews
- Rose (8/5): - The place was big, the kitchen had odds and ends dishes. Pots and pans were old, most should be trashed.
- Mark (10/5): - Shower head needs cleaned or replaced.a few light bulbs needed replaced. Over all a nice place to stay.
- Lynn (10/5): - Very clean and quiet. Very good communication with the host.
- Lynn (10/5): - Everything was clean. They were very friendly and not bothersome at all. The space was awesome and loved having a full kitchen. Plenty of room for all of us.
- Bradford (10/5): Great for All Purposes - D’s Base Camp caters more to adventurers, whilst we simply needed a reasonably priced place to stay overnight for college move-in weekend. With that said, you really can’t go wrong with multiple rooms, bathrooms, and kitchen. Will be looking to stay here again the next time we’re in town.
- John (10/5): - Spacious and functional. Very clean and comfortable for our group of 5. Very friendly host.
- Doug (10/5): - comfortable, convenient, spacious
- John (8/5): - The facility was well set up and well priced. Primary complaint being that the instructions for the WiFi were not up to date in the book, other than that I would absolutely consider staying again
- Deborah (10/5): - Clean, comfortable and in a great central location for exploring the Keweenaw penninsula.
- Gail (10/5): - What a pleasant surprise for us when we arrived at D's Base Camp. Located right off the highway. Staff very friendly and ready to assist when needed. We had 3 spacious bedrooms with each having room for 3 to sleep. Two full bathrooms, very clean and roomy. We also had a nice living room and kitchen. While we didn't cook, it appeared to have everything we'd need to cook, if we had chose to. I definitely would stay again, when in the area. One thing to note is the lodging was on the 2nd floor with no elevator.
- Traci (10/5): - Great!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean and large :) - The unit is simple, clean, and big. Great for larger groups. My first choice in the UP going from and to camp, coming from 800 miles south.
- Brian (4/5): - Poorly maintained, run down, FILTHY.
Just sleep in your car.
- Ryan and Brenda (4/5): - We thought we were staying in a cabin it didn't say a upstairs apartment above a garage. There was dead bugs in the windows. Screen was missing in the living room window couldn't open windows in 2 of the the 3 rooms because one window wouldn't stay open and the other window there was holes in the screen. The smoke alarms one didn't have a battery the other was hanging off the ceiling. There was mold on the shower curtain in one of the bathrooms.
- Haley (10/5): - It's my fifth time renting here and it's always excellent. It's homey and right off of the highway so it's easy to get to Houghton or any other town you may want to visit
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very convenient, just off the road, location. Very nice place to stay with a large group.
- Wendy (10/5): - Great location and suite large enough for a group.
- Molly (10/5): - Located right on the highway. Very clean, safe and quiet. Plenty of parking area.
- Gregory (6/5): - The amount of space and places to sleep were great with the kids along. The outside light was burnt out so it was pitch dark when we arrived. The one bedroom also had a light bulb out and didn’t work. There was one window air conditioner and it was in a bedroom so the door had to stay open to cool the main area. Parking was great as we could park next to our room. When looking to make sure we had everything while looking under beds the floor was not clean. The batteries in the tv remote were dead and so we used the box itself attached to the tv which was very annoying. All in all it was ok but not great.
- Lisa (10/5): - The rental was just as described - well appointed, spacious and comfortable. Loved have two full bathrooms and so much space! Thank you for a great visit!
- Todd (10/5): - Place was very clean and great for an overnight stay.
- Chris (10/5): - The cabin was very clean and had a good kitchen area and comfortable seating in common area. The 3 bedrooms were also very nice and beds were comfortable. Plenty of room for parking as well. Would stay here again.
- Richard (10/5): Fantastic Getaway! - We enjoyed our stay at D's Base Camp. Clean and comfortable lodging for a great price! Looking forward to returning!
- Alexandra (10/5): - Absolutely loved the suite! It was very clean and came with anything you could think of for a long stay trip. We had only stayed for one night, but it was an amazing night! The owner Donna was extremely friendly and helpful, the suite was very clean, and any information you might need you can find inside. I would recommend this place 100 times over if you're looking for a cozy place to set up base for a long trip. We'll definitely be back again if we're in the area!
- Kathy (8/5): - Very comfortable and generally clean. Enjoyed having a full apartment with seating area and kitchen. Beds were comfortable. Not as clean as the hotels we had stayed in during our trip as some furniture had significant stains on them which made me not want to use it. Kitchen pans could use replacing. It would have been helpful to have a guide on how to use the two remotes: finally figured them out after some frustration.
- Christine (10/5): - Great place for snowmobilers, side by sides, family vacation. Plenty of room.
- Sara (10/5): - Perfect location for our rock hunting needs
- Melanie (10/5): - We really enjoyed D'Bar! Perfect place to sprawl out and relax. We really enjoyed our stay. Especially nice that they had a full kitchen and dining area where we could cook our own meals. Close to Houghton and only an hour from Copper Harbor. Loved it all.
- Gloria (8/5): - Property catered to ATV and Snowmobilers. "Suite" of three bedrooms the two of us stayed in could easily have slept a large party of nine. We opted to stay here as the on-line availability of rooms in Houghton was too costly. This unit had a flat rate for the night which was more affordable. While the decor was vintage, I would book again under similar circumstances.
- KATHERINE (8/5): - Our family stayed here during MTU move in weekend. It was nice to be able to cook our own meals and avoid the very busy downtown area while still being a short drive to campus. This was a much better deal than any of the hotels. It has a rustic feel and is nothing fancy, but it met our needs for the weekend and my kids enjoyed having their own rooms. We will likely stay again when we come to visit.
- Angela (10/5): - Owner was very nice, she greeted us when we arrived. Our suite was very cute and cozy. Nice and quiet place. We definitely will stay again.
- Matthew (8/5): Three night family stay - It get the job done for a place to stay. Old pans need to be get rid of. Small table and not much to put grocery items. No bed side table. Able to cook that is always good for a place .
- Haley (10/5): - There is plenty of space for the kids to run and play. There is plenty of parking, and very quiet and peaceful. It's located right off of a highway and houghton is minutes away. Don and Donna are very kind and the cabins are cozy and well supplied with kitchen utensils and other conveniences. This was our third time, and there will definitely be a fourth.
- carolina (10/5): - We checked in towards the end of the night and they waited for us. The room was payed in advanced and nothing extra was needed. Super quick access to our clean room was given. All the rooms/beds were clean and ready for us. Checkout instructions were clear. Overall very good experience!
- Donald (8/5): - we had all the room we could need and plenty of amenities you cannot find in a hotel room like a kitchen, living room and two bathrooms. owners were on site to greet us and gave us all the information we needed and gave us a recommendation for dinner which was readily made us of.
- Katy (8/5): - This is an excellent space for larger groups of people. Kid-friendly and a great location for us. 15 minutes to Lake Superior, 15 minutes to Houghton. The only constructive feedback we have is the steps/floors under couches/beds /window sills needed to be vacuumed. Also, using scented garbage bags, air freshener spray and heavily scented laundry detergent was a huge turn off.
- Tim (10/5): - It was a very clean nice place to come to.
- Rosemary (10/5): - D’s
- Haley (10/5): - Very spacious and clean.
- Brenna (10/5): Better than a hotel - This place was Awesome! It felt like home! Can’t wait to go back. I kids wanted to “live” there
- Haley (10/5): - Excellent cabins
- Nilabh (8/5): - Spacious and private unit in a secluded area. Nice kitchen, living areas and TV. Well located for easy access to many parts of western Upper Peninsula. Clean, but window sills needed to be vacuumed to remove dead bugs.
- Barkley (10/5): Perfect Central Location - Nice little spot in the middle of no where. There was 6 of us and it was perfect for our group!
- Andrea (8/5): Good value, simple accommodations - We stayed in unit 1, which is half of a large steel building. Three bedrooms with a double (or a queen?) bed and twins in each room. We found the twin beds more comfortable so that’s what we slept in. Full kitchen, two bathrooms, living room and dining table. It wasn’t fancy but suited our purpose of a place to sleep for a couple of nights while we toured Michigan Tech and explored the peninsula. Our unit was located right on the highway, but with a fan on it wasn’t too noisy. No outside fire pit or chairs. We realize this is probably more of a snowmobiler’s place, but a spot to sit outside would be nice in the summer. A good deep cleaning in some corners might be a nice thing as well. Otherwise we were fairly satisfied with the accommodations. My husband may be back with some guys this winter.
- Dianne (8/5): - The property was fine for my needs. It is very much in the country but I was prepared to travel for both dinner and breakfast. This was be a great stay for a large group over several days.
- Kim (10/5): - Liked having the two bathrooms with lots of beds.
- Eileen (10/5): - This is definitely where a family can come and stay and enjoy a cabin experience. Three bedrooms, 2 baths, full kitchen, family room, plus, plenty of outside room for activities. We will be coming back for sure.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This property was a good value for the money for the area. The office was a little hard to find when we first arrived. We had to ask guests that happened to be outside at the time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Spacious accommodations, great for our family. Clean and comfortable. Would book again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice, friendly, and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My family enjoyed there stay
- Stephanie (10/5): - Great place with friendly service and clean rooms! We had a lovely stay!
- Jessica (8/5): Graduation visit - We were in the area for our daughter's graduation and didn't want something dead center Hancock/Houghton. Was very idea for that place thats away from it all. A few updates could easily be made to the place, but overall, it was cost effective and gave us exactly what we needed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We needed a place for five people to stay while in the area for our son's graduation. Very nice to have two bathrooms, three bedrooms, a kitchen, and a place for all of us to hang out. Nothing fancy but was clean and the staff were helpful
- Mark (8/5): Quick trip - Easy in and out plenty of space
- Nicolette (10/5): Wonderful Stay - My family of 5 had a great stay here. It was way cheaper than a hotel room and I’m very glad we decided to try it out. We had a three bdrm/2 bath with full kitchen and dining room and living room. There was items there we could use which was very convenient for us since we were up visiting some friends who lived near by. Very quiet area, super easy to find and we really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend this place and plan to use it again on our next visit.
- Therese (10/5): - Needed a place that could accommodate at least 8 people and within budget. And close enough to the college of my grandson's choice.
D's Bade Camp came up and i was immediately impressed because they were able to put us all in one cabin. And the price was very reasonable.
Our cabin was very well cared for; clean, spacious, well equipped and peaceful. our hosts checked in on us to make sure we were comfortable and in need of anything.
Thank you D's Base Camp for a wonderful weekend. Hope to be back again in the spring.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Short distance to MTU (about 15 minutes by car). Spacious! Easily accommodates 13 people. Great for families.
- Ginnie (6/5): - Never saw a host, not even once. Note on the door and a key on the table when we got there. Decor was shabby chic to say the most
- C.p (8/5): - Very clean, they have all the kitchen utensils, extra pillows, towels, etc. very nice 👍
- Bob (8/5): - The property is well located outside of Houghton and very reasonably priced, especially if you have a large group of people in your party.
- Jeanette (10/5): Perfect "Base Camp" for UP adventures - Better than expected. Very clean and spacious. We used as base camp for our sightseeing and waterfall adventures, and its a great location for ATV/snowmobilers with the trail across the street. Had a full kitchen with stove/microwave/full size refrigerator/pizza oven, and even stocked with dishes/utensils/cookware/dish towels. Would definitely stay here again.
- Greg (6/5): Adequate but not awesome. - It was cozy but musty. The bed comforters especially, along with the couch. Bedding was clean. Very warm..and it was 17 below with the wind chill! No worries about freezing there! No staples ie sugar, pepper, butter or margarine. There was table salt and baking flour. Definitely have to bring EVERYTHING you might need to cook a meal. Plenty of pans and dishes and silverware.
All in all not bad but could be improved upon.
- Jenny (8/5): - This was our third time staying at D’s & we always feel right at home. It’s ALWAYS cozy, quiet & plenty of room. Awesome place to stay!
- Rick (8/5): Nice & larger place - Pretty awesome place. Stay here every year when we come up to the rally in Houghton every year. Nice, clean bit cabins that can house several people. Id stay here whenever I could.
