Guest Reviews
- amir (10/5): - everything was good.
- Corrin (6/5): - Ok, so the room was lovely, really nice clean and spacious. Comfy beds and well priced. It was in a good location for the event we were attending. However, the walls are extremely thin we heard everything word for word including room #1 having a great time til 4:30am. Also there was no hair dryer which I’ve never come across and was a little annoying.
- Rayon (8/5): - Good size room. Super comfortable beds!!!
Rooms are really warm, double glazing, I assume insulated walls and ceiling.
Bathroom needs updating, but totally functional and nothing to stress about.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Very convenient. Easy to find.
- Janice (8/5): - I thought the room was very good for the money. Stayed a week and only had one night with noisy people next door which could happen anywhere. Had use of laundry which was great. Decent sized room as well.
- Priscilla (6/5): - The beds were comfortable.
- Peter (6/5): - Recently refurbished, great shower, no carpet on the floors so all rooms very noisy, staff need to go on a cleaning course.
- Bob (10/5): - Everything was perfect .
- Ali (10/5): - I like everything good service and clean
- Gordon (10/5): - Excellent Motel at great price. Only minor criticism would be lack of towel rails in bathroom, but Motel highly recommended to anyone wanting a great nights stay in Hamilton.
- Josephine (10/5): - PROPERTY WAS AMAZING! HIGHLY RECCOMEND
- Kathryn (8/5): - Just how nice and clean it was tea and coffee was avabike hair shampoo and body was was in the shower I will stay there again
- Kiri (10/5): - Perfect for what we needed and cost was reasonable.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Nice & clean, white linen, over all was very good. But we had 3 people staying, with only 2 glasses, 1 cup, 2 dinning chairs? The biggest disappointment was the lack of sound proofing, coming from upstairs we could hear everyone walking, everything they dropped, doors, water running, even talking from next door. We where there for a sports tournament around the corner, with 7am starts so just needed a bit of quiet. Oh the unlimited wifi was great, shower, hot water great, bathroom just needed somewhere to hang towels and shelf for toiletries, makeup etc.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Our room was very clean, spacious, comfortable bed. The staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean & spacious room with all the necessities needed for a one night stay. Too far to walk to the city centre though.
- Helen (8/5): - Great value, good facilities. Everything you could need
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Facility was clean, tidy, quiet, and met our needs. Staff were quiet and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfy beds and great shower. Tidy room but no milk for coffee in the morning.
- Claire (4/5): - Clean unit.... BUT thats where it ended. We booked 2 rooms for 6 adult women.
We had just completed a 3 day Badminton tournament and had the final function that night at the Hamilton Gardens.
We had to ask twice to have the sofa beds in each room made up.
There was NO hand soap on the basin and this during Covid. No shampoos or basic shower soap.
Only 2 towels provided. We had 2 ask for an extra towel... despite the booking in the room for 3 adults.
Minimal milk provided.... allowance for 1 cup only..
WIFI advertised but not functioning.
Poor standard for a nearly new Motel.
Not Recommended.
- Benny (2/5): - Horrible place, don’t ever think about staying here. Filthy room and when I asked for a clean room they were not willing to swap into a clean room. Definitely will never consider staying here again,
- Samantha (6/5): Business trip - Comfortable bed but noisy and despite surface cleaning seeming ok don’t look under the bed! Bathroom needs upgrading and simple stuff like changing the shower curtain regularly and cleaning the vents would help.
- Kate (8/5): - Good location near University of Waikato. Easy walking distance to food and shopping. Safe but no staff at night. Mostly tidy. Warm with large heat pump. No carpet or rugs and non-insulated walls so can be loud. Overall, good value for money.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The rooms met out needs however the walls are paper thin. Could hear doors slamming closed, other guests conversations and people partying until late despite rules stating no partying. Also had one small bottle of “free toiletries” for 4 people. Ok for 1 night stay but wouldn’t stay any longer.
- Kirsten (2/5): - Worst place I’ve stayed. 3rd person in our room had cold shower. Floors filthy. Could hear everything from room above us as wooden floors. Notes everywhere threatening that if you break or lose something how much you will have to pay. Office said it would be open at 8 still wasn’t open at 9. Would never stay there again and would never recommend it to anyone.
- CC (8/5): - Room was huge and comfortable but the jug lid was broken
- Al (10/5): - Very clean and central. Nicely appointed. Customer service very good
- Grainger (8/5): - Very nice room but cold showers. 3 out of 4 showers had were cold!
- Aaitui (8/5): - Thank you so much, the rejectionist was friendly and the room was all good. It was the cheapest hotel at the time we were in need. Thank you and God bless.
- barry (4/5): - Nice place to stay however the walls did little to reduce any sound coming from other people making sleep difficult.
- Radoslava (10/5): We recommend! :) - We were very delighted, really fantastic accommodation!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bed was very comfortable room clean and functional.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved it! Was a very nice place with a very nice feel to it. Staff was lovely and the place was beautiful.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Dirty. Loud. Floor in shower was so filthy. Never stay here.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Spacious bedroom. Accommodation perfectly adequate for a one night stay. Paper thin walls biggest drawback. Tight carpark. Outside smoking area below our bedroom window. Otherwise fine.
- S (10/5): - Great sleep, comfortable bed-
Would love a little over or cooker.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very comfortable beds. Fridge was not very cold when we arrived . Was not sound proof, could hear everything from the room above, did not get a good sleep.
Our shower head bracket was broken, we had to hold it above our head. When this was brought up with reception they said oh it broke yesterday. No apology was given. Shower floor was grimey. There was no where to put clothes to keep them dry when showering, not even a toilet seat.
Overall not very impressed
- Sudene (10/5): Great Stay at Uni Motel - I would recommend the Uni Motel.
The amenities were great!
- Rihanna (8/5): - The bed was super comfy. Some dusting could be done on the night stands - both were super dusty.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was a perfect location to where we needed it. Very clean and quiet.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Relatively new rooms, beds and furniture. Location handy to the sporting competition facility where my son was competing.Very sad that their advertising on the website is false and misleading. I booked a Double Room for my son and an adult friend to stay in while they attended a sporting competition. In the "Room Details" on the Expedia website it says that a Double Room has 1 King Bed and 1 Double Sofa Bed and that extra beds are available on request. So naturally, given that my son and adult friend would not be sharing a bed, I assumed that the two separate beds (1 King & 1 Double Sofa Bed) was going to fulfill their needs. However, when they checked in they charged my son an extra $80 to make up the double sofa bed. When I complained they offered me a good rate on my next stay but did not offer to refund the $80! Very poor service indeed and I believe their advertising is in breach of the law.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Glad yous had aircon was so hot out there - as a good deal
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great friendly staff. Family unit was good. But no soundproofing on uncarpeted floors, the noise from people walking upstairs kept us awake, then woke us up early with their stomping around. ☹️
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The property wasn’t fairly represented on the web site . On our arrival we where told that there was not two beds and if we want two beds it would be extra . There was no normal tv only Netflix, lightbox etc which I did not have an account for
There was no area out side at all to relax
All the rubbish was just stacked up around the back
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I booked a room for 1 adult and one child and the staff refused to made up the sofa bed in the room without an extra $20 charge.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Turned up and entered the room and the first thing we noticed was the beds were old sheets from the people that had been sleeping there the night before, we walk into the bathroom and the used towels were lying on the floor. No new towels for us to use so we weren’t able to have a shower. There were skid marks still left in the toilet from the people before and nothing had been cleaned. Had a fridge but no milk, no water, no nothing it was empty.
Very disappointed about accomodation and will not be staying or recommending this place to anyone
- VBFamily (6/5): - Although they tried to be helpful it would have been useful for the staff to be able communicate with better English. The rooms were pleasant but could do with a good clean - including under the beds. The car parking is limited, but you could park in the church opposite. No noise from the road and beds super comfy.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The size of the room was as advertised but the level of the amenities was not what was expected. Spartan at best. The beds were very comfortable. The general cleanliness of the property and room was not good. Our room had a very unpleasant odor. It was doable for the night but i wouldn't return.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It was a nice room for the price. Didnt like that kids were running up and down the hallway screaming while we were trying to sleep. They were also trying to open our door. Up stairs was real noisy! Could hear every little thing from walking up the steps to doors shutting and things dropping on to the floor upstairs.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very clean facilities, kitchen well equipped. Only downside is that it is quite noisy as you can hear next door and upstairs at around 2/3am in the morning.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to uni
Noisy a too well lit had trouble getting to sleep could not block out all the light
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great little place with a nice big studio room.
Walls were a bit thin, so a lot of noise from neighbours and the corridor.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice & tidy, modern facilities.
Would be better with Sky TV or something similar.
Overall a good nights sleep.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It's not much to look at from the outside, but the rooms are phenomenal. Very comfortable bed, big TV, updated bathrooms, etc.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room/facilities were nice and beds were comfy. Staff were lovely. Convenient location for us. Walls were a bit thin but that didn't affect us much as we spent a lot of time out. Overall we had a good stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A very nice motel! Clean and comfortable, more than enough space, friendly staff. The only thing not perfect was the big noise from upstairs guests..
- H (8/5): - walls are thin and wifi sometimes dropped out, but other than that everything was fine
- Barbara (6/5): - Uni hotel is a great location for Visiting the university however is already starting to show some wear. Although it is a relatively new motel it already has evidence of mould growth both in the silicon in the shower and in the walls above. Sound proofing is not the best. If you simply need somewhere to lay your head the motel is adequate.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very helpful and Yolander is so considerate and kind to my 88 year old mother to allow us to early checkin. The suite with two rooms is super and spacious. Will come back for sure!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We had our room upgraded to a 2 bedroom unit, which was fabulous!
There was a party at the neighbouring property that disturbed our peace, but once it had finished we slept soundly. The bed was very comfortable and the shower pressure was very good.?
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location and very spacious, clean and modern. Only issue I had was the lack of a notice beside the cooktop that advised that the smoke alarms were super sensitive. I set them off cooking a very small meal. With prior warning I would have opened up windows before starting to cook.
Other than that I would highly recommend.
- Meryl (6/5): - Unfortunately our room hadnt been cleaned properly and the bathroom in particular had a very strong urine smell to it. So much so we brushed our teeth in the kitchen and I couldn’t stomach taking a shower.
Otherwise everything else was all good.
- ashley (8/5): Big roomy and clean room. Service ok. - Roos was great and very big and super clean. The receptionist was nice, but kept repeating herself over and over. She had us leave so she could clean up the room b/c they were so busy, that was fine. We didn't mind it, but we wish we could have relaxed a bit before driving away again. But none of these things would make us say it was bad. Just not ideal.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome place and price! - We had a great stay at the Uni motel. The room was clean and well stocked. The bed was super comfortable! The worker was a little hard to understand and didn’t understand me sometimes as well, but she tried her best. You can wash and dry clothes for $5, it just takes ages to do since it’s energy efficient. There’s only a few stalls for parking so if it’s full you gotta get a spot before night. The only junk thing about the location is that it’s right off of a round about, so if you need to actually go back on the round about when leaving the motel you have to go left and then turn around in the church parking lot. But you can’t beat the price for this little gem!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Check in staff had poor service. Noisy uni students next door (to be expected I guess) and other guests on the floor above sounded like they were moving furniture around all night. Nice comfy bed and big tidy room.
- Ned (8/5): - Beautiful comfortable beds !
Cooking pans/hot plates would be helpful.
Additional cups/glasses would be helpful.
Staff welcoming and accommodating.
Reception slightly difficult to find.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location was perfect. Walking distance to university. Motel staff were very helpful , kind and courteous.
Suggestions for improvement- additional utensils in kitchen; dresser or luggage stands;
- D (4/5): - Can hear people in other rooms. Loud doors when they close. Charges for damage to shower if you damage but they are very poorly installed to begin with. Nice bed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice hotel. Very friendly staff. We were going to be late and they were very accommodating.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to where wanted to be at the time. Only 1 negative comment parking is an ussue for larger vehicles.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really friendly staff. Super helpful. Great price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel was close to our event venue. The doors are rather heavy and would've preffered to keep them open as we were going in and out of the room but overall - good stay thank you.
- Jennifer (10/5): Handy location - Very friendly staff. The beds were very comfy and the room was large and clean. Just a 5 min walk to the shops and the university is very close.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Bed was amazing, super clean and fantastic service!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The bed was amazing!! Very comfortable! The room is a great size!
Please get towel rail or some hooks to hang towels up. I needed an iron, there was not one. A full legnth mirror would have been good also.
- Andrew (8/5): Clean and convenient. Good service. - Yolanda at the front desk was very helpful. Nice clean place. Was there for a conference at the University of Waikato. Amazingly close to campus. Tea and mini-kitchen very convenient. Only negative was that I imagined the neighborhood would have more of a campus atmosphere, but not really. Curry King was closest tasty eatery, which was maybe a 20 minutes walk. Mini supermarket and Asian market though had good produce and naan.
- Mike (6/5): - Very noisy having a room by the round about, needs towel rails in bathroom. Smell coming from drain in bathroom.
Other than that staff very friendly and helpful.
- Marilyn (8/5): Close to Hobbiton - Great hotel. Good towels, soft bed and pillows. Clean. Friendly staff. Had some washing done for us. Easy drive to CBD and Hamilton Gardens. Great TV in front of bed. Kitchette. Quiet. Quick drive to Hobbiton.
Awkward drive into motel. A sharp left turn while in the roundabout.
Nowhere to put your shampoo in the shower. Had to put it on the floor.
No stand for suitcases, so it too had to go on the floor.
- Ellen (10/5): - It is a strange place for the reception to be at the back of the place
- Becky (8/5): - Nice basic motel in handy location. Tidy and modern and good for a one night stay but probably a bit small and noisy (due to the floorboards and lack of sound proofing) for much longer. Kitchen was lacking a few basics and was a bit limited but overall a good motel at a good price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay - Have stayed a few times now and the room is always lovely and clean and tidy. Great place to stay when away for business, would stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was lovely and clean. The only thing that would be nice are some hooks in the bathroom to hook items up
- Verified traveler (4/5): Very thin walls and the plumbing needs work. - It’s a great location and it didn’t cost much for our last minute stay but you get what you pay for. The walls are very thin and worst of all the plumbing needs some work. There was a very bad smell coming through the drains in our bathroom floor. We resorted to packing towels over the holes.
- Jan (8/5): - Good size room, basic facilities but clean comfortable and equipped with all the essentials. About 5km from the city centre.
- Lorraine (10/5): Close to Waikato University - Comfortable for Family and Lovely Staff...Our 2nd time staying here
