Guest Reviews
- melanie (10/5): Great stay right next to the palace - Clean and the staff was great! N/A
- Erika (10/5): - If you want to explore Split, this is the best location. Kids loved their room as well. Breakfast was excellent at nearby restaurant. Nothing.
- VANINA (10/5): -
- Michaela (8/5): - Die zentrale Lage
Freundlicher Mitarbeiter
Das Apartment hat alles, was man braucht
Wasserkocher, Kaffee, Tee usw Aufstieg 3.
- Edgardo (10/5): Perfect from a New Yorker - I had an amazing stay at Gothic Palace Heritage. From the very beginning, the host was incredibly responsive—when I messaged *“At building? If so we will be there in 2 minutes”* I immediately received clear directions and support, which made arrival seamless.
The room itself was a creative mix of modern comfort layered onto the historic bones of the building. The top-floor space filled with natural light was especially beautiful.
The location could not be better—right in the center of Diocletian’s Palace, surrounded by history, restaurants, and the energy of Split. Staying here felt like being part of something truly unique..
If you’re visiting Split, don’t hesitate—this is a one-of-a-kind experience. I have no negative feedback or suggestions. The stocked mini-refrigerator was appreciated....
Wahnsinn!!
- Suzanne (9/5): Great Location within walking distance, and a spacious room - The location of this hotel was amazing! It was within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to see in Split. The area was spacious, the bathroom floors were heated which was amazing, and the little loft area was perfect for my kids. The room was really nice with a little seating area and everything. It was perfect for a family of 4. We had such a hard time finding the hotel (at night during a rain storm) and I didn't realize we needed to call the front desk when we arrived so they could meet us to show us to our room. We only had about 30 minutes total of hot water each night for 4 people to shower so we had to take very quick showers to avoid freezing cold water. I wish there had been a little gate or something at the top of the loft steps we could have closed to keep our kids from potentially falling down them if they got up in the middle of the night but we just used a storage cupboard to block the steps at the top.
- Ralph (10/5): - Perfect location in the palace grounds for restaurants anywhere in Old Town. The restaurant for breakfast a few steps away was excellent...again amazing service there as well. I highly recommend the Gothic Palace would stay there again.
- Erik (10/5): - Delightful quiet room - it’s worth the few flights of stairs
- Dana (8/5): -
- Zlatko (9/5): -
- Roy D. (8/5): A great choice if location is all important, but unsatisfactory if difficult stairs are a concern. - The location in the middle of the palace was superb. The bed was comfortable and the housekeeping service was excellent. The facility was impossible to find without assistance. It is one of three rooms on the third floor of a building above a restaurant. When we asked people in the vicinity where the Gothic Palace was, they had no idea. We only found it by calling the office and having someone come over. Once found, you had to navigate the three sets of stairs with spotty lighting and uneven steps. We also found the included breakfast offering at a nearby restaurant to be sub-standard.
- Stephen (8/5): - We loved staying at the property is clean, comfortable all what we expect. The only thing we would suggest is having street signage of some sort. I know they say call but then sometimes people don’t answer the phone street signage would be very beneficial. But other than that, everything was perfect
- james (10/5): First time in Split - Great location great room - service was amazing - all the information leading up to our stay was excellent
- Jake (10/5): - Super convenient location in old town. Might be difficult during the busier months but was ideal early September. Would definitely recommend!
- Jennifer (10/5): - A truly fun and unique space with plenty of room. Parking and lugging suitcases was difficult (thru palace grounds and up 3 flights of stairs) but they provided as much support as needed. Wish we stayed longer - a great location for enjoying the heart of the palace area. Staff was super helpful even when we forgot to phone ahead. Loved the decor and appreciated the air conditioning. If you want a memorable experience- this is the place!
- Gilbert (10/5): - The room was immaculate. We were happy they sent someone to help us with our luggage. We suggest you use Google maps to find them because you cannget lost.
Oir only suggestion is that they need an additional sensor to turn on the entryway light in the stairs. It doesn’t turn on until more than half way up the 1st set of stairs. Otherwise we definitely plan on staying here again. It really is in the middle of everything.
- Thomas (10/5): Quirky apartment in a great location - A little tricky to find initially, but they were very helpful and got to us quickly when I called.
It a very clean and tidy space with a quirky room in the loft. Extremely central in Split so it's easy to get around and see the old town.
The breakfast was out of the building across the square to the Luxor. It was ok but not anything special.
- J (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect location very clean staff very friendly. Room is very good size.
- Lena (10/5): -
- Andrea (9/5): - Ottima posizione centrale.
Camera decisamente spaziosa.
- James (10/5): - Excellent location
- Ina (10/5): Very nice apartment for families - Very nice apartment, great location, very good host Nothing
- kennedy (10/5): - The area was perfect and the restaurant right downstairs was amazing! Would definitely stay again!
- JCinSpain (6/5): Not a hotel but a nice room up three flights of stairs. - Let's get one thing straight, this place is NOT a hotel. There is no reception, no facilities of any kind you would find in any regular hotel. This is just three rooms at the top of three flights of stairs that have no signage at street level. Please look at Google maps for some idea on how to find it (go into the courtyard for Fig restaurant, up the stairs on the side then up two flights of stairs from the door on the left. If you travel with heavy cases and do not want to carry them up three flights of steep stairs, this place is not for you.
Do not bother booking the breakfast, it is really quite poor (with orange squash instead of orange juice) and much better options are available in Split old city. If you want to leave your bags for a few hours after check out, you have to do that in a different hotel 5 minutes away.
Now for some positives. Our room was lovely and the "hotel" is centrally located within the Diocletian Palace close to everything you need. The aircon was excellent in a hot July day and the bathroom was good with a nice shower. The fridge was very useful. The staff member who met us at the top of the stairs to let us into the room was polite, friendly and helpful.
This option does not suit everyone so choose wisely.
- Christie (9/5): - good breakfast although only started at 8am so had to miss it one day. should have provided some coffee pods for the coffee machine..
- Girt (9/5): -
- Erik (10/5): - Staff was friendly , helpful and responsive. Place was clean and it is an amazing locations. Stairs were rough, especially after being in the sun all day. They were so helpful in having someone assist us.
- Julie (10/5): - We really enjoyed staying at the Gothic Palace Heritage. The room was very comfortable and quiet despite being located in a very touristy location. Staff was extremely kind. Highly recommend it!
- Luke (10/5): Exceptional - Gothic Palace Heritage was perfect—cool vibe, great location right in the heart of Split’s old town. Room was spacious, clean, and surprisingly quiet considering how central it is. Staff were super helpful without being over the top. Would definitely stay again. Easy, comfortable, and just the right amount of character. There are a few stairs.
- Gary (9/5): Superb -
- Melanie (10/5): - Property was beautiful and well appointed, great location.
- Kelli (10/5): Great location. - Great little spot in Split. Perfect location in the middle of old town, right above a cute little restaurant.
- Andrew (10/5): - This place was simply gorgeous! It's right in the center of Old Town and is so perfectly located by all of the attractions. Very close to the shore, while still being nestled in with the Old Town excitement. Plenty of shops and museums and restaurants to enjoy and the view from the room was absolutely unbeatable. Would highly recommend!
- JaNiel (8/5): Comfortable. Cozy. - We had someone meet us right at the entrance to get us all checked in. The room was comfortable other than the bathroom always had an off smell... maybe something coming from the drains?
They answered any messages very promptly and made sure we had what we needed.
- Susan (9/5): Superb - Great room in wonderful location This is not in a hotel but is a separate room in a building in the old town. It was on the third floor with no lift - fine for us, but it would be a problem for some people.
- Hana (9/5): Superb -
- giselle (4/5): - PROS- Great staff. Ana, Meji, and Mariana. Meji is always there to help you meet your needs.
CONS- Extremely small rooms. Not a chair nor a couch to relax on. Except for the bed and a very small and uncomfortable desk/chair. Very suffocating. Smells like sewer REAL BAD. SO BAD that I had to move to another property. Property is on 3rd floor, and A LOT OF STAIRS to get up to the room!
- Mark (10/5): - Amazing location. Clean and organized. Host are very responsive and accommodating. I would highly recommend.
- Adriana (10/5): - Our stay was great. Wish are stay was longer. The room was a good size, everything was clean and comfortable. Location was perfect. I would highly recommend staying here
- Lee (8/5): Split is a must visit place, a true historical gem. Split is also home to the amazing Up Cafe. - This property is managed by the Kastel 1700 Hotel. Angelina from the hotel was amazing. She really went out of her way to make our stay perfect. She made our stay special. There are a lot of stairs to this room. I chose it because wanted to stay inside the palace, thinking that the room would have period features. It did not. In retrospect, I would stay in the Kastel 1700 Hotel. You would still get Angelina's amazing care, but in a more traditional hotel setting.
- Cassandra (9/5): Superb - Lovely designed rooms, brand new bathrooms, clean and very attentive staff. We departed early before breakfast was served and they arranged breakfast at another venue to accommodate us. Very centrally located near the attractions, restaurants and transport. Fab stay! Three flights of stays to the room dur to heritage listing, no lift. Not something they can change easily.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Staying within the palace walls in Split is the only way to go. Although not handicap accessible, this place was great for us. Split is a gem and it will change your perspective on the world… must go!
- Lance (8/5): - Very welcoming and friendly staff. Interesting and large room in historic centre. Easy access to sights, harbour and beaches.
- Rafael (10/5): - Ubicación inmejorable
- Rosella (10/5): - It is right in the center of the old palace area of Split. You could walk to all of the shops, restaurants and pubs. I absolutely loved how quaint the rooms were. So beautiful. I cannot say enough.
- Kyle (10/5): - Loved being in the heart of the city
- Jeanette (10/5): - Gothic Palace is inside Diocletian’s Palace which is free and open to the public. It’s easily walkable, directly near historical sites and close to shopping and eating. The actual room was so unique. It was gorgeous, looked like an actual castle! Loved our stay. Clean, comfortable, quiet !
- Diana (10/5): Location, location, location! - Location Stairs were difficult but staff helped us with our luggage so not a problem
- Ian (8/5): - Comfortable room close to all the action and sights in Split. Nice restaurant on the ground floor was good, but not so good with the noises later at night. Part of being in old town.
- Steven (8/5): - A little hard to find but worth it once you get your bearings, nice rooms.
- Sylvia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emanuel (7/5): Good - Clean comfortable modern room We were not made aware that to get to our room we would have to walk up four flights of stairs. This could be a problem for older visitors with large suitcases. Also the is no reception at the rooms and its location is difficult to find.
- Adam (10/5): - The staff was excellent. We received prompt responses to our requests and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We intend visit again next year!
- Karen (8/5): - We were between four and seven minutes for all of our tour meeting spots. Yes, the three flights of stairs are rough when you’re tired after a long day, but the location makes those steps worthwhile. There are a few things we would have liked. I wish there was a fridge and not just a mini bar as well as a microwave. We threw out a LOT of food this vacation. I also wish there was a tissue box instead of just toilet paper. The toilet paper was pretty rough. Also, the bed wasn’t as comfortable as I would have liked, but I’m used to a memory foam mattress at home. The air conditioning was awesome though. Overall, we enjoyed our stay even with the missing amenities and the stairs.
- Sam (9/5): Superb -
- June (6/5): - I would not recommend staying here if you want to go to sleep before 1:00am - the bar directly below us had a loud woman singer and she did not stop until 1:00 - very noisy
- Zulfikar (10/5): - The hotel is in the perfect location in Old Split. Very walkable to the Riva and the different sightseeing options in and around old Split. The hotel is also equally close to all the tourist and local restaurants. Also very close to the ferry terminals to go to the other islands and the bus terminals.
- Poul (10/5): - Room was excellent. Comfy and spacious.
Location is beautiful and great for doing old town Split. Not obvious where it is as a newcomer, but locals and reception got me sorted easily.
Lots of stairs up to the room, so that is something to be mindful of if that is a concern.
Foot traffic out front/lines to the restaurant below can be a bit intense at some hours of the day, but this is a small bother.
- Jay (10/5): - Awesome!
- Sally (6/5): - Great location and helpful friendly staff, however unfortunately the A/C didnt work while there was a heatwave in Split.
I also found communication could be better. For example, Gothic Palace Heritage is connected to another hotel and I unfortunately had to drag my heavy suitcase through old town and up three flights of stairs, only to find no-one was there to greet me and I had to check in at the other hotel. Suggest communicating this clearly on the website and booking sites
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location - Great position in the center of old town. Modern room in Bert good condition.
- Virginia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lyndel (10/5): We only had in night in Split, so accomodation right bang in the middle of Old Town was perfect for us. And the apartmen - The location was brilliant - right in the middle of Old Town! Brilliant
- Tessa (8/5): We had a fantastic stay here. The location was excellent. Even though it was a short walk from the main hotel the staff - Fabulous location. Friendly, helpful staff. Stairs to get to room.
- Pablo (6/5): Not a Hotel! - This is not a hotel! This is an apartment in the third floor of a building without elevator.
You need to carry your luggage and there is no lobby at all.
- Susan (10/5): - Such a wonderful stay in an amazing location!
- Mahreen (10/5): - We really loved our stay at this property, its in such a fantastic location as everything is within walking distance. It was really easy to book tours as it was so close to the pier where all the meeting points are. Its also in the historical old town so its great to be able to say we stayed within the walls of the old palace. The room was clean and the staff were very accommodating. I would say the only feedback would be the breakfast offered at the restaurant is a bit lacking in options. It is still worth booking in the area and this room in particular as its just within the heart of Split which is very busy but the room is quiet, clean and comfortable. Thanks again!
- Shauna Harrington (10/5): - This was right in the center of the old castle and was so convenient and walkable to everything, including the bus and train station. The host were amazing and the maids were super pleasant and very helpful. We love this place. It was super clean and the design of the rooms were comfortable and had a lot of space. The workmanship in the bathroom was impeccable. It is a bit hard to find because it’s sitting right above a restaurant so just go to the restaurant and look to the right You will see stairs against the wall take those set of stairs turn to your left and then go through another door up another set of stairs to the third floor. Check breeze responses were super quick When we needed something. They even suggested a places to dine that weren’t in the tourist sections that ended up being tasty and reasonable. Some reviews were negative because of the scares, but we didn’t mind them at all It was worth it to stay here!! Cleanliness was off the charts as well
- Scott (8/5): - Great room and location.. not really a hotel more of an apartment. The only big issue is there is a massive amount of steps to get up to the place and inside.. this should be noted on the booking advertisement because a lot of people would struggle with this..
- Steve (10/5): - Beautiful place and sorrounding area. So much to do and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Thank you for a great stay!
- Carol (10/5): Quiet room well located - This is more like a studio apartment in a third floor walk up. This location is ideally centered right by the castle with myriad restaurants in all directions. The owner was very helpful and had a modestly charged paid parking lot off site. (There is only paid parking in city center Split.) The unit doesn’t have any USB ports, so bring your converters. It was very quiet and clean.
- Joseph (10/5): - Clean and comfortable room. Very conveniently located. Would definitely stay here again!
- Robert (10/5): I was good with everything. Walked to all the sights. Worth the airport pick up fee. - Clean, comfortable, great location, very helpful staff! I was good with everything.
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional - Very spacious and clean Clock bells at 6am was a surprise
- Dan (8/5): - The location could not have been more central and the breakfast was superb. I was not excited about all the stairs and the extra bed being n the attic but, hey, it was in the center of Diocletian's Palace!
- Denis (10/5): Was happy to visit this hotel!! Breakfast is super service in very nice restaurants near hotel! Room clean and comfortab - Super cool!! Was Hard to find hotel
- Petar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (9/5): Great stay! - Great location and air con and comfy bed All the steps
- jilrick (8/5): Good location and quiet - This is in a good location, being located quite close to the Peristyle in the middle of the Palace. The checkin is in a another building a couple of streets away, but staff guided us through the streets to our rooms. The entrance is a little unusual, being stairs up the side of the outdoor seating area of a restaurant. The number of flights of stairs was a little daunting with our bags, but not too difficult.
The room was spacious and well appointed, and was very quiet. The bed was a good size and comfortable, the bathroom was great.
An added bonus was having staff both meet us and return to our taxi drop off/pick up point and the start and end of our stay.
We would recommend staying here.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Charles (9/5): Superb -
- Adam (10/5): - Great location
- Liz (4/5): Very disappointing for the cost. - Decor great. Room lovely Hot, noisy, ridiculous access
- Jasmine (10/5): Beautiful room, great location, friendly and helpful staff -
- Gordon (9/5): Good value and the location hard to better - Superb comfortable room Hard to find and up three flights of stairs
- L'estrange (10/5): Exceptional -
- Danny (10/5): Comfortable stay in the middle of the old town - The location was excellent in the middle of the Diocletian Palace, only a few minutes walk from loads of bars and restaurants and when the palace basement walkway was open, only a short walk to the waterfront. The room was very clean, with the staff replacing our towels everyday. The travel ironing board cover provided was dirty, and because of the Split Summer festival, the alleyway leading to the hotel was closed off in the evenings. However, that was no fault of the hotel itself.
- June (10/5): Beautiful room, very modern in a very old palace. Air conditioning was flawless. - Breakfast was arranged at the Luxor across the courtyard. American/European/Fruit choices. All were wonderful but the salmon sandwich was wonderful. Nothing.
- Jekaterina (10/5): Best place in Split - Amazing place to stay! Close to everything, just in the old town. Very nice lady working explained us everything, recomended places to go, was very polite 🥰 parking place like 5-7min walk from hotel, but in general not so far. Room is big, beds are comfortable, towels soft. All is just good! A bit difficult to find, because of no sight. Walking beside mexican restaurant upstairs.
- Kathryn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Raunak (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (8/5): Central location nice and clean room - The accommodation was Central to everything in Split The stairs to our room were tough but this is Europe mostly
