- Gregory (10/5): Worth the Walk - a Unique Property and Stay - Breakfasts were varied and delicious with an interesting menu as well as a fruit/bread buffet.
- Leo (10/5): Everything was absolutely top notch - Lovely boutique hotel close to everything. The staff were absolutely fantastic. The rooms an surrounds were top class and beautifully decorated. This is a truly 5 star property Nothing!
- Izzy (10/5): One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in! - One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in! The staff were always smiley, friendly and helpful. The decor was divine and the rooms/beds super comfortable. The unique experiences - from the hot chocolate to the late night facial - were so sweet and really added to our stay. The location was perfect - close to the old town, and on a very safe street, with good restaurants. I can't recommend this hotel enough. Boutique and family vibes. Please stay! Nothing
- Shakha (10/5): Intimate luxurious stay for our family reunion - Breakfast on the terrace was superb , the staff at reception and at breakfast and dinners , housekeeping were great, rooms were super comfortable and was a beautiful boutique property in a great location - we walked to the city Centre in about 7-10 mins . Airport pick up , drop off to dinners and Mindo tour organised through them were seamless experiences . Nothing was too much trouble Choices at dinner for the two vegetarians in the group were not great despite having requested months in advance - they had one by veg dish and could offer another by not adding the pork but was not appetizing for them

- Santiago (10/5): Best Colonial Quito Hotel - Amazing place and service Sadly the pool wasn’t working but it was being repaired or refurbished

- Ellis (10/5): - Illa Experience Hotel is an absolutely beautiful property with both historic and modern elements. Our room (a second floor suite with views of the charming street) was incredibly spacious and well appointed. Indeed, the entire hotel was renovated with thoughtful details. The service was off the charts... seriously - the kindest, most helpful staff ever. They went out of their way to make our stay a pampered one - from accommodating a late check out to sourcing needed medicine in Quito. And the view from the second floor bar of the hills and the Angel of Quito was breathtaking. What a treat!
- June (9/5): Superb - It’s a beautiful property with friendly staff. The view from the window/balcony was amazing. The food was delicious. They had the same menu for lunch and dinner. Since I stayed there for a few days, I had tried most of the items I wanted to try, but they were able to come up with a few “specials” to keep it interesting. The rooms were impeccable! They advertised that they offered experiences with local artisans making hats or chocolate, but for the three nights I joined over two separate stays, 2 were the same (making a drink) and 1 was making a dessert.
- Judine (10/5): -
The hotel was quite an experience the best service I ever had! Located in the old city very antique with new world amenities. The staff is great and the food is amazing this is truly an experience. Please let the resort arrange your driver Giovanny is the best. Love love this hotel.
- Tinajero (9/5): Superb -
- Ines (8/5): Very good - The breakfast was very good and the view magnificient
- Max (10/5): A unique and special place in the heart of Quito - Can't speak highly enough of this hotel. The concept of a 'boutique' hotel used to mean something - a smaller place where you would feel there was some kind of effort made to make your stay special or different. Nowadays it just gets used to mean any small hotel, but the ILLA is a true boutique hotel. They have 12 rooms in a beautifully renovated old colonial house near the historic centre of Quito (5-10 min walk). Everything about the place and your stay there has been thought about - from thoughtful little touches and gifts they leave for you outside the room, to daily 'experiences' with local artisans where you learn about and participate in Ecuadorian crafts.
The staff are super attentive and helpful, the breakfast is excellent and the restaurant does very nice food (albeit on the pricey side). The rooms are extremely large (ours even had a separate 'reading room' attached to it) and well appointed. The hotel has several indoor and outdoor spaces for sitting and relaxing, and breakfast is served in a glass-walled restaurant with an incredible view of Quito & the mountains. There's a pool, though Quito can be fairly cold so it was not in use when we stayed.
The location is on a small, pretty street ideally located for the historic centre without being right in it, and we found getting in, out and around super easy. At night, the whole neighbourhood is very quiet, so whether you feel that classifies as 'unsafe' depends on your approach to travel, but we walked home after dark on several occasions without feeling unsafe at all. We loved everything about our stay. It's worth noting that the gym is very small, but it has a working treadmill which is what we needed, and a very nice view of the garden.
Also worth saying that some rooms are on a below ground level, so don't have much natural light. If you like that, in terms of sleeping soundly, then ask for one of those. If you don't like it, ask for a room on one of the upper floors.
- Amanda (9/5): Superb - The staff here is amazing. They are thoughtful and helpful. The hotel is designed beautifully and artfully. I loved the central water feature. The hotel is in the city center so we had no problems walking around and checking it out. The food at the restaurant was very good as well. All in all, we had a wonderful stay and very much appreciated the refuge after several days in the Amazon.
- Yvonne (9/5): A Great Experience. - We were delighted with our room. It was clean, spacious and luxurious, just as described on the website. The hotel was situated in a quiet street in old town Quito. It was within walking distance to many attractions and in fact was itself a historical building. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. They provided and shared aspects of their culture with us daily. Our only complaint is that there was construction next door which was distracting from the peacefulness. (This is only a temporary state and beyond the control of the hotel).
- Jennifer (10/5): - Beautiful property!! Amazing touches throughout the hotel. We were upgraded with our Expedia VIP to a lovely suite. Hotel staff is so gracious and accommodating.
- Mallous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stewart (7/5): Good -
- Susana (10/5): - Buena ubicación y el personal hace el hotek
- Melissa (10/5): Above and Beyond - We cannot say enough great things about this hotel. Definitely next level luxury in terms of service and comfort. There were very few restaurant options in walking distance, however the hotel has an outstanding breakfast included as well as upscale dining available.
- Vicki (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful, huge room. Great restaurant.
- Aleksandra (8/5): - The property itself is very nice, but the old town area is not safe at night and the hotel should do better to make sure their guests can enter it whenever they want to come back from outside.
We left for dinner and came back to the hotel at 9pm. There was nobody at the front desk to let us in for whatever reason and we were not given a front door fob or key. We rang the doorbell for 20 minutes, we tried to knock, call the front desk, etc. to be let in. BUT NOBODY LET US IN. We are patient people except for the fact that old town Quito is UNSAFE AT NIGHT TIME for tourists. There are people who heckle you and who loiter outside the hotel at night, leaving us feeling very unsafe because we looked like tourists and were unable to get into our hotel.
We thankfully went to an open place next door and they called the front desk persons cell phone who let us in after 40 minutes. The front desk person said they were cleaning the jacuzzi and did not hear the ring. However, for any hotel excluding that this is luxury, making their guests feel unsafe is especially unacceptable.
I highly recommend either getting backup staff, giving guests a key fob for the front door when they check in, getting a louder doorbell, etc. not having someone at front desk at night is not acceptable. We did not feel safe outside at night in Quito and there should be a way to enter a hotel you pay to stay in. Please resolve for future.
- Lacy (10/5): Blissful oasis in bustling old town! - This was the most stunning and comfortable hotel we stayed in while we were in Ecuador! It is on a quiet charming street and everything is clean and bright. Wonderful views from the bar area!! There were no negatives for this property! We loved everything!
- Stephen (10/5): Great Hotel - Lovely stay, very helpful staff.
- Stephanie (10/5): This beautiful hotel with exceptional service is ideally located in Quito's historic center - Excellent staff. Exceptional service- best of any hotel I have ever stayed in.
- Brian (10/5): Fantastic!! - Everything Lights are too bright in the dining room for a romantic dinner. Should have candles or low light. The staff couldn’t turn down the bright lights.
- Michael (10/5): - Ecuadorian Luxury, World-Class Hospitality
For our first trip to Quito, we wanted to stay somewhere very special. That meant eschewing the modern chain hotels in the suburbs in favour of someplace unique in the historic district. I narrowed the list to three places within a few blocks of one another, but the boutique size of ILLA Experience Hotel and Spa, and the glowing reviews here that lauded the staff for their exceptionally personal service, won me over.
I can’t imagine having made a better choice. This is one of the best hotels we have experienced anywhere in the world.
The outstanding service began well prior to our arrival. So many emails and WhatsApp messages were exchanged between the front desk staff and me as we worked out dinner reservations, airport transfers, potential tours, and one very special request. Since it was to be our first time ever not being at home for December 24th and 25th, I asked if it would be possible for me to pay to have a real Christmas tree put up in our room. It was an instant and enthusiastic “Yes!” from ILLA, and over the subsequent few weeks they sent me photos of the type of tree available, and potential ornaments and nativity sets. Eventually, together, we settled on a selection of typical ornaments, simple white lights, and a large cluster of red Ecuadorian roses at the top. The price was very reasonable as well.
The next generous gesture came when we landed at 6AM on Christmas Eve day. The hotel had someone
- Hanna (10/5): - We chose Illa Experience as our base in Ecuador and are so glad we did! We just completed our first stay (out of three) and are already looking forward to returning. It feels like a safe space in the beautiful old town of Quito with the most attentive staff. Really feels like home away from home!
- Antonia (8/5): Cool, comfortable hotel in a nice street. - The property is well curated and small so it really feels like a boutique hotel. It has a pool and a terrace even though it was always too cold to use them while we stayed. Breakfast was nice and the staff was nice. They could give you more tips on what to see, where to shop and eat. Some of the streets surrounding the hotel at night get dark and empty and it can feel very dangerous to walk around.
- Adinelt (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional in every aspect - We stayed at Illa Experience for our last night in Ecuador and Galapagos. It’s an exceptionally designed small hotel with stunning rooms, interior furnishing and views. We loved our suit and double-shower! We dined at the restaurant which provided exceptional dining experience. Breakfast was also wonderful. Staff and services were exceptional! We liked everything
- Kyle (10/5): - Excellent boutique hotel with warm conscientious staff and luxurious rooms.
- Svetlana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andria (10/5): our stay in this hotel was exceptional. The staff were very very friendly and the food was excellent. our room was very - the hotel was beautiful and very comfortable. The staff are exceptionally nice… unfortunately, the hotel was not in a very safe neighbourhood.
- A (10/5): - Great hotel, great experience. Lives up to its reputation.
- Ferdinand (10/5): - Excellent staff and food experience amazing
- Luis (10/5): - Great Staff! Friendly and unique.
- Ariane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful hotel and small, excellent restaurant - Great room and common areas. Great location. The highlight of the hotel experience was any meal with Juan Carlos, the chef. Very few tables, and people from all over Quito come for his delicious, hand-crafted meals that he prepares where you may watch. What TLC! Excellent staff like Juan David, Christian, Francisco and Vincent.
- Sharon (10/5): - The property was gorgeous. The staff impeccable. The food could have been served with more speed but was nonetheless delicious.
- Deb (10/5): Illa Perfection! - Beautiful hotel with an amazingly accommodating staff. Don’t skip dinner as the chef is engaging and passionate about his work. (He’s also quite good at it!)
- Jayant (10/5): Amazing place and service - Amazing stay! In the heart of quito. The service is second to none. Special shout out to Michelle who went above and beyond to help us
- Gregory (8/5): - IIIA is an excellent hotel to stay at. The property is great and has a good amount of amenities. They offer you fresh juice and fruit at your door in the morning. Breakfast is prepared every morning fresh and to our specification. This was great because I was expecting the typically continental breakfast buffet set up. The hotel did have one local experience where we were given a brief introduction to the Canelazo a typically Ecuadorian drink. The room was clean and water was refilled every night we stayed. The one hint I would have for folks is to ensure you are not staying near the front door when possible. We stayed in the room close to the entrance and it can get a bit noisy in the morning when folks are leaving.
- Nancy (10/5): - The property and staff are quite wonderful. There does need to be some clarification on the Gold perks because what is written is not what is received and that in no way diminishes the greatness of the hotel but still needs to be clarified. You won’t regret staying at this hotel.
- Nancy (10/5): - A beautiful property with an equally beautiful staff.
- Brian (10/5): - It was a gorgeous spot right in Central Quito. I couldn't ask for a nicer, more central location.
- Adam (10/5): Boutique beauty. - Wonderful boutique hotel steps away from the plaza grande.
- Muriel M (10/5): Great hospitality in the heart of Quito - During our two weeks trip in Ecuador we stayed twice at Illa Experience hotel, at the beginning of the trip and at its end. We were both time greeted as friends, with a very knowledgeable staff who arranged a multitude of things for us: from restaurant reservations (and with a special mention for Nuema, the restaurant located in the hotel, that was ranked 48th in the 50 best ranking of the global South Americas restaurants) to help to shop for specific items, explanations about the local culture and more. We enjoyed every minute of our two stays.
- Paul (10/5): - Illa is a fantastic hotel. The service is top notch and the hotel is very cool. They arranged transfers for us to/from the airport as well as a hike up a local mountain. The only thing that disappointed us was that we couldn't stay longer. If you are going to Quito, this is the place to stay!
