Guest Reviews
- Brandy (10/5): - This place was such a great find. We stayed in one of the suites and had a room overlooking the lagoon. We saw starfish and a Spotted Eagle Ray right off the dock in front of our room. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. Drinks are reasonably priced at the bar and the pool is sparkling clean! We took the bus in (5.5 hours from Belize City or 2.5 from Belmopan on the express bus). Town is about a 5 to 10 minute walk and taxi to town is only US$2.50. Taking the boat across was super easy and quick, even in the pouring rain one day. Sunsets from the island are amazing and it is indescribably peaceful. Our room had a small fridge, a coffee maker with coffee and sugar, a microwave, and dinnerware for two. Beds were comfy and showers were hot. Absolutely no criticism of this place at all. I wish we could have stayed longer!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property itself actually looks really cute and picturesque. The location is pretty unique though - you have to cross the canal by boat in order to reach it and the boat service is only until midnight. I had a private room that didn't have view, AC or bathroom and really was more like a closet plus the smell was really weird. It is not the worst option though if you are a budget traveler.
- Yuan (8/5): - Good stay
- Connie (4/5): Budget accommodations - They do have a swimming pool; the accommodations are budget. They do not emphasis that the bathroom are in a separate place(not in the rooms). They also do not tell you the room are 6 ft by 11ft. It felt like being in a prison cell. I can say that the pool was good and the swim up bar is nice. They do offer some rooms with the bathroom in the room. The owners were nice and the boat ride across to the island is about 1 minute long and neat. If you are looking for a basis place to sleep that is clean and near the center of town this is a good option.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The pool was nice . Crossing the canal became tedious.
- Calderon (10/5): - Beautiful place, really nice staff, everything was súper celan, we love to stay there.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - When my daughter arrives they has cancelled her reservation without notice. The attendant was rude and foul mouthed. They did offer her a room without a door to sleep in. I would NOT recommend this property and I am not happy with Expedia for cancelling without notice. My daughter was travelling alone for the first time and has to scramble to find a place to sleep on the first night of arrival not being familiar with the city. Very unhappy
- Dale (6/5): - The unique thing is that you can only reach the property by boat. Which seemed very quaint at first but really is a bit of a pain after a day or two. The boat was always available, if no one was around when you wanted to go across there was a bell to ring and the staff came immediately but really it would have been much nicer to just be able to go to our car and not have to rely on a boat ride to get to it. As charming as that feature was it got old rather fast. I made an error when booking the room, got my dates wrong, and we asked the owner if we could change our reservation and leave a day early to catch our flight. He said that was fine but we would need to go through expedia for the refund because that was how we booked. Expedia told us they had to check with the property owner. We received an email later in the day from expedia saying the owner had declined our request so we had to pay for the extra day. I get that is their policy but still was unexpected and disappointing. Aside from that the room was fine except for a musty smell (possibly the shower?) and there was only one chair in the room, we had room 1. Outside there was a wooden bench with no back or cushions or shade from the sun so uncomfortable and hot to sit outside which was a shame. Einstein, the resident dog, was the highlight. He was very friendly, would come scratch on our door in the morning and spend some time with us. He did bark at dogs on other side of marina but that's what dogs do.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - service was excellent...………………………………………………………………………………………
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had originally booked with Carol's Cabanas and they simply cancelled our reservation the day before we were to go! Angry, we settled for Sailfish, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise !! The pool was awesome, the swimup bar is great! There is a little canal that seperates the road from the hotel, but you just push a doorbell and they come grab you instantly. The room was big, one of our mattresses was really bad, but the other was fine.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Kids don’t stay free - We loved our stay except this was the only place in 2 weeks that we had to pay extra for our children using the existing beds in the room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cool location and swimming pool was nice.
Only downfall was the witness you can take the water taxi over. Last one is at midnight so if you’re in town and lose track of time...you’re hooped!
- Aimee (8/5): Lovely little paradise - Loved this place, couple of things could of made it prefect...
1. Pick up from town
2. Breakfast and snack options (currently no food available)
3. Umbrellas around the pool (there awaiting delivery)
I arrived by bus from independence, and got the hoody pokey, once arrived in town, I could work out how to get to the hotel so bad to ask for direction, which meant i had to get a taxi, as it's a bit of a walk.
Shuttles over the water gap are whenever you need them just ring the bell.
Should stay here again, the rooms are clean and the staff are lovley...
The dog and ball were a bonus!!
Had a private room with shared bathroom, this has clean, and when I stayed not busy so bad no issues.
Wi-Fi worked in main areas but not room which was fine
- Sarah (10/5): Great Stay at Sailfish! - This was a great place to stay in Placencia. They have a little boat that takes you across the canal if you want to head into town. It’s a short 10 minute walk to the Main Street. The pool bar was great and refreshing! The staff were all very nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great place for budget travellers. - Definitely a great place for budget travelers. No additional comforts to speak of (except the great pool!) but it was clean and the bed was comfy enough. Staff was friendly and helpful and town is completely walkable from here. Beware of two things, you will need to be back to the hotel by midnight or you might not get back across the channel. Also, you will have to walk outside to use the restroom which can be kind of annoying at night, but not terrible ;).
- Anne (10/5): - Had a wonderful time here. This is definitely a no frills experience, but the price is right, the Sailfish folks are incredibly friendly, and who can say no to a swim up bar with cheap drinks? Never had a problem with the taxi going across the canal and appreciated the security it offered. Perfect for the solo traveler looking for a clean, safe place to rest their head while saving a few dollars. I would definitely stay here again.
- Kristy (10/5): Perfect Place to Stay - We absolutely loved our stay at The Sailfish! Mike and Jen are absolutely amazing people and their staff is the same. Everything is clean from the rooms/suuites to the pool to the bath house. The entire property is so well kept. The swim up bar and fresh water pool are rare in these parts so to have that on the premises was a treat. We met so many great people at the resort form the locals to the international travelers staying at the onsite hostel. We felt like family from the moment we checked in. I can't wait to go back!
- William (10/5): Easter in Paradise - Really awesome place. Beautiful, quiet, and peaceful location. All the resturants and shops were only a short walk away. You could drive, but parking in Placencia is very limited. Owners were super nice people, and pool area was like it was dropped in Paradise.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing hostel! Best value Ive encountered to date.
- Verified traveler (8/5): No Frills Beach Stay in February - For travelers looking for a clean, safe, decently priced, good location and the suite at The SailFish met these requirements. The property definitely belongs in this beach town- a well loved property needing a little TLC, relaxed staff, & being the hangout spot for Sunday BBQs. The swim up pool bar was great, as were the drink prices and visiting with the staff and other guests. The property is a short walk away from the main sidewalk/public beach area but very manageable.
Wifi wasn't accessible from our room, but it was in the pool area if that stuff matters to you.
**Heads up that the property is currently on the market (but so is a lot of the town) so things may change in the near future.
