Guest Reviews
- martin (8/5): - 1 night business stay. The property is an older property with creaky floorboards and a few stairs internally between various levels. The room was nicely presented and the bathroom had a large walk in shower, everything was very clean and comfortable. There was tea/coffee making facilities in the room and TV on the wall. The hotel had a good sized private car park at the rear of the property. There was a nice fresh cooked breakfast available together with some cereals etc. On the opposite side of the road is the local football teams home ground so this accommodation would be very useful for any travelling fans. The hotel is close to a small park and nearby open lido and leisure centre. The main supermarket is a 10min walk away and the main town centre is 15min walk to a range of bars, restaurants etc. Overall a very enjoyable stay and would stay here again in the future if I was in the area.
- Dave (8/5): - Hotels dated but the ladies take great care of you. Free parking and a breakfast included. No nonsense old school BnB. Hitchin town centre is very good too. Plenty of eating places and pubs.
- Doug (10/5): - Lovely staff who very kindly let us check in early so we could get our train into London
- MARTIN (4/5): would not stay here again - Hotel was noisy due to traffic from road located 6 ft from window and from doors banging throughout the night. Accommodation was basic on arrival i noticed that the sink contained someone else's hair "which were Curley!. i mentioned the noise to the hotel and they told me that they were fully booked but the car park was and remained empty?.
this was a dated hotel more like a traditionalB&B. personnally i would noyt stay here again especially as i stay in this area frequently and know that much better accomadation can be sourced.
- Ros (10/5): Fabulous B & B - Always stay here when down visiting family. Fabulous B & B, spotlessly clean, friendly staff and superb breakfast. Cant fault it
- Amanda (10/5): Nice overnighter - Was comfortable & stafff friendly, breakfast was lovely, good location to get to town.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely hotel, - Lovely hotel, just out side town so quite at night. Staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are simple but clean and comfy. Ours had a squeaky floor but added character to place. Breakfast included so made a really good price.
- Michael (10/5): Enjoyable stay at the Firs - The Firs is just a short distance from the centre of Hitchin and located in a quiet area. The room was large and clean and had all the facilities that we needed. The bathroom and shower were both excellent and the residents lounge was large and welcoming. The staff were friendly and happy to help and the initial reception was good.
The breakfast was good with the usual cereals, fruit juice etc. Overall I would happily stay there again and have no reservations recommending it to others.
- Mike (10/5): great little find - very pleasant stay, comfy bed, room temperature nice, lovely breakfast, would recommend, will definitelt use again
- Sian (10/5): - A lovely, family feel, old fashion hotel. When i say old fashion, i mean friendly welcome, keys, breakfast included, parking included. Loved all of it. Very easy.
- Mr James E (10/5): Firs Hotel Hitchin - The hotel is dated but the facilities are very good and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
- Nick (8/5): - Excellent for the price
- Lucy (10/5): - Nice hotel. Not very modern but clean and everything worked great. The staff were nice and the breakfast was really good. Very convenient for a walk into Hitchin which is a nice market town. Enjoyable stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Felt interrogated for bringing partner! - Very old fashioned guest-house feel to this hotel. Was asked quite curtly if my partner was staying with me on check in, as apparently I'd only booked a king sized bedroom for one! Not sure hotels.Com had made this clear and did feel very awkward and old fashioned. Price therefore increased an extra £10, perfectly reasonable as included for breakfast, but I haven't been asked for room occupancy details since the 80s, and I'm not sure things have changed at the Firs in all that time. Room very clean and comfortable, but honestly felt like the rest of the place is very dated.
- Suzanne (8/5): Very adequate - Welcoming. Friendly staff. Nicely cooked full breakfast. Cereal fruit yoghurt and toast also available. Hotel is older but very clean. Good amenities in room. Nice little terrace outside.
- Terry (8/5): Decent - All was good, breakfast was excilent. Only fault bar was not open
- Andrew (8/5): Comfortable hotel, convenient and excellent value. - Our room in the Firs Hotel was comfortable and clean, with a nice double bed and two armchairs which we liked very much. The room faced on to the main road which had a lot of traffic until quite late, and it was too hot to close the window. The ceiling fan helped a lot but we ended up having the window open a bit and got a good night's sleep when the traffic reduced later in the evening.
Breakfast was excellent, we had cereal, full English breakfast, excellent coffee, toast, marmalade, and fruit. Check in and check out were quick and easy, and we thought it was very good value for a comfortable night's stay in Hitchin. The location was very convenient, there was plenty of parking in the hotel car park and the WiFi worked very well. We will certainly stay in the Firs Hotel again, next time we are visiting the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good sized room and comfortable. Small bathroom but perfectly adequate. Dated decor but fine for a convenient stay. Plenty of parking.
- Paul (8/5): Good value hotel - Clean and tidy good value botel
- Biagio (10/5): Excellent hotel - Excellent family run hotel.
- David (8/5): - It was perfectly fine for the price.
- John (10/5): Stay at Firs - Great location and easy access to town centre. Was able to work in lounge after checkout for an online meeting and staff very helpful
- Anthony (8/5): A pleasant comfortable night - Welcoming, plentiful parking options on-site (maybe because not so many are travelling these days) comfortable and clean. Cooked breakfast was good for us, albeit not sure what options if you did not want cooked. As some rooms face on to a main road - which unusually did not disturb us (we usually hear a pin drop at home) so ask for back facing rooms if this potentially bothers you.
- Andrew (10/5): Nice independent hotel - I found this hotel very comfortable and friendly. I choose a king bed room that was spacious. It is a little dated but very clean. Easy free parking and an nice 15 minute walk into the town centre. There is no restaurant but there is an abundance of places to eat in the town.
- Martin (10/5): - Nice hotel a bit dated but in good condition
Excellent service and friendly staff
Excellent cooked breakfast aswell
- John (4/5): Not very good for various reasons - Needed a 2 night stay and based on recommendations the Firs looked good value. However, the hotel is very dated both in decor and furnishing . The rooms are clean but small and with the decoration feel like going back to the 1970s.
Also our second night was severely disrupted by 3 workmen sharing the family room next door who came in late the worse for drink and resulted in a lot of shouting, banging and almost a fight. This situation was made worse by the fact that there is no one on the desk through the night and our call for assistance was answered by the owner, a rather senior lady. She would not have been able to resolve any serious problem and we had to get involved to sort everything out.
Although we had the majority of the room charge for the disrupted night refunded we do not feel that this is a place to recommend or that it is good value for money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We liked the warm welcome and the friendly athmorsphere.
- ZAMZAM TUAH (10/5): Comfy and excellent! - Amazing!
- stephen (10/5): - great place to stay comfy bed good shower
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean, comfortable hotel with great staff and a good breakfast
- Fiona (10/5): Great location, clean and comfortable - Great location for both the town and road links. Right across from the local outdoor pool also so good for the kids. Breakfast was good and from a basic menu and there was tea, coffee, juice, toast and fruit/cereal also
Staff were pleasant and the rooms were simple and clean.
Everything was perfectly acceptable and we will stay again
- Ken (10/5): Great place to stay - Hitchin is a beautiful town and the Firs hotel was an ideal place to stay. The staff was very welcoming. Accommodation very comfortable. Breakfast wonderful! I’d stay there again if in the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A well positioned hotel for my visit to Hitchin. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Room was good and it was nice to be provided with a fan as there is no air conditioning. Breakfast was good and served with a smile. Will be happy to stay there again when on my next visit.
- LizzyW (10/5): Comfortable overnight stay - Clean, comfortable and spacious room. Staff welcoming and helpful. The hotel is on a main road so we were glad to have a room at the back which was quiet.
- GERRY (6/5): Functional... - Hotel is functional and if situated well for your needs then go for it. However, strong smell of paint permeated the place, but no sign of any renovations in the section I was in. Carpets in need of deep clean (or total replacement), and generally could do with a good refurb. My room at front had noisy traffic late into the night - and due to heat (not the hotel's problem!) , had to keep window open or stifle! Ceiling fan seemed only to work with light on...
Staff pleasant and helpful. Did not try the breakfast.
- Ruth (6/5): Good Parking - The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.. The breakfast was ok but a little more choice would have been nice. We were disappointed that he bar was clsed at 10.15pm Would have liked a "nightcap
- Stuart (8/5): Ok hotel - Very welcoming staff and good breakfast
- John (6/5): - Only downside was no evening meals available
Staff for breakfast very friendly
- Cheryl (8/5): Will stay again - Very pleasant reception, Staff very helpful, only negative was my front bedroom was a bit noisy at night, will ask for a rear room next time. Breakfast cooked to order, good selection of juices, even had cranberry!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A one night stay for a family party in Hitchin.
A cheerful welcome from the young lady at reception.
Helpful information for parking in the town centre and the fun we were likely to have at the "adult pantomime" we were going to.
An excellent full English breakfast in a clean and warm breakfast room.
The bed was very comfortable, the room warm and clean.
Ensuite bathroom roomy and clean with a nice big shower cubicle.
- john (10/5): Great hitel - Nice hotel bargain price as well . Well worth it
- Colin (4/5): - The hotel website showed it had a restaurant but it closed over a year ago, it was s 35 minute walk to the nearest one.
- Emma (10/5): Great hotel close to the town. - Lovely staff, comfortable room with complimentary tea/coffee and bottled water.
Breakfast was delicious and the waitress was really welcoming.
I was worried about it being on a main road, but slept really well, with no road noise whatsoever.
All in all a really lovely stay and would definitely stay again.
