- Petersen (1/5): - I didn't like anything, but because of your no refund policy, we were forced to stay for the night. We did not feel welcomed at all and this is why.
Good morning
Thank you for letting us stay in your rooms for the night, there is a few things I need to bring to your attention of which I am really disappointed
1. The way we were received at your place.
2. The TV as advertised, was not working,and had no remote.
3. We asked twice to come fix it, nobody pitched.
4. The bedding was dirty, and we found a long hair under one of your pillows.
5. One of the glass of those paintings above the bed was cracked, which is very dangerous.
6. There is no table cloth.
7. Only one wine glass, supposed to be two.
8. Dry toothpaste on the tap. Someone brushed teeth and did not clean the basin.
9. And as the last message states that we were supposed to pay R150 for deposit as security for the contents inside. We waited for someone to come and collect so we can show them everything that was faulty, but no one came.
10. The night was supposed to be special for me and my wife, but all those things spoiled it for us. We only get to celebrate our 30years anniversary once, well it didn't go as planned.

The toilet is right infront of the kitchen so if you use it the smell travels and there's a manhole drain inside the toilet.The place is not well maintained it looks like a jungle and there's inadequate lighting making it extremely difficult to navigate at night. It feels unsafe and we had to park our car outside in the street. There's now security the main door was broken and couldn't lock.

Overall the property is weird and dodgy and needs some serious TLC.

Upon arrival, they found the guesthouse to be in an unacceptable and unhygienic condition. The bathrooms were filthy, there was a terrible smell throughout the premises, and the overall state of the accommodation was completely unsuitable for occupation. As a result, our staff could not remain on the property.
To make matters worse, they were also asked to pay an additional R150 per person and R100 for parking, despite the condition of the accommodation.
We had already paid a total of R18,060.00 for this booking, and given the circumstances, our staff had to be relocated to another resort so that they could rest and report to work as required.
Unfortunately, due to the unacceptable condition of your establishment, we will be requiring a full refund of the amount paid.
We trust that this matter will be resolved promptly.

- Esmerelda (7/5): Nice and quiet place to stay - The quiet atmosphere and the friendly and helpful staff. There was no water, because of a pipe that burst in the area and we had to walk to another Guesthouse, about 1km away, for ablution facilities. There was nothing in place for such emergencies.

The initial booking of the family room was a nightmare as the cabin was built over a manhole cover, which made it smell like sewerage. It is not habitable, especially for anyone with health/breathing issues as my family suffer.

The smell, the miscommunication, ammenties which are not working, not clean, the garbage was full of trash, no hand soap, only one towel for 2 guests, the tv is not working, wifi doesn't work.

I take responsibility for the fact that I did not check whether it was self-catering. When I got to the room, I discovered there was no stove and would incur an extra cost if I was to move.
The toilet pot was very low down, which would make it hard for any tall person or any person with a bit more weight.
The television was troublesome. For two days, I had no sound and the hosts did not know what to do.

- Reginette (1/5): Bad - The location was ok close to shops and the beach The rooms were dirty and the sheets had marks on,the showers were filthy and malt stuck everywhere inside the shower the kitchen utensils were dirty and the 1 grey table cloth were smelly and dirty there were also a bad smell in the room we stayed 2 nights and booked for 4 adults but wen we arrived there were a miscommunication about our rooms and we asked for 2 couple rooms but we're put in a family room wen we explained we initially wanted 2 rooms and I phoned the friday 5 times the morning to explain we are looking for 2 rooms the lady said I must book for 4 adults she will change my booking wen we arrived the manager on duty Damian were nice and explained that we booked a family room but I explain to him we wanted to roo.s for 4 adults and the situation surrounding the miscommunication between me and the lady over the the phone but he said we can't upgrade to 2 couples rooms cause we made the booking online even after we were willing to pay the extras.but we had to ask the ladies to clean the room and bring towels as we only had 2 towels in the rooms we were also very disrespected by the remarks the staff made as we were drinking to much after they cleaned the room.but Damian was friendly and always asked if he could assist with anything but I understand the guest house was busy but we had to ask for our room to be cleaned and that was almost 4pm in the afternoon. So cleanliness is a no go everything was dirty and dirty marks on bedding and bad smells in room and a slippery dirty shower there were gum stuck in the shower where you put your. Soap I even took pictures it's bad some of the lights were not even working

- Qiniso (5/5): I never got to sleep in a place I paid for - I never got to sleep in the place I booked for. I called and they said it available, then I booked the place. After an hour I got there they said the place is full. Where they took me there were cockroaches in the microwave
- Darren (2/5): Not going back - People didn't make a noise around the room, which was needed The person at reception. He didnt greet me once after I greeted 3 times. I asked him about the room and I was met with silence but as soon as his workers speak to him then he is the loudest in the room.
The next morning when I had to drop the guys off. I was met with silence again after greeting. I got my deposit back and I said "thank you", nothing. Again.
If you're the front point of a air bnb/guesthouse, at least interact with people helping you stay in business. Because the floor in the bathroom was damaged. There was no TV remotes (luckily we had our ipads) but we still needed to go and watch sports at a bar because the wifi was extremely poor aswell.

But if there is a problem the manager doesn’t come back to you . - Parking is a problem because I had to climb over cars to go to the room. A car was blocking the walkway to the back rooms. Even had to pick my heavy equipment over a big bakkie. Just a lack of communication between manage and guests. I paid 3 times for Elephant room R890 And was moved to Penguin room that’s R790 plus parking. The first time it was rebooked but not updated by staff onsite. The 2nd time they couldn’t find keys for that room and moved me to a cheaper room. The 3rd time I paid R890 for Elephant room plus parking but we couldn’t get it open. I had to book somewhere else and no refund was given back. The manager is aware of it.

Mould on curtains, hard to navigate to room through garage where people park and leave no room to walk. I reserved a parking space with staff member that checked us in, only to find a full garage upon our return. There is a little bird (quail) in a cage with finches. It has no nest or hiding place, its scurrying around in clear distress the whole time!! It broke my heart to say the least!

- Frans (1/5): Terrable - That it was close to the beach The bathroom is so small I had to sit sideways on the the toilet, the drain in the shower is blocked and if I look at the damage on the wooden floor Its clear that its been like this for a long time. The whole setup is campy and small. Very little ventilation as it only had one window that opens up. I was woken by the place calling met at 5:30 in the morning for no reason. At 7:00 they started doing washing or something at my bathroom window so I could not sleep late.
They insisted om me paying R250 breakage dep I had to go and withdraw cash when I arrived they only wanted 200 the next morning they did not even check that all was well.
I traveled for work and requested a invoice to claim at my company after asking three times I now have a proforma invoice with none of the required details on it!

- Maciko (1/5): My guest did not spend over night, she checked in at 12 and left at 3 after she was denied ironing board. - Nothing, the property is not up to standard. My guest ended up leaving 4 hours later after checking in due to cheeky and disrespectful. The window in shower room was not even closing. The management did not even bother contacting me as the guest did not spend the night. The property is not clean, its actually false advertising.

- Slabber (1/5): Nightmare experience - Absolutely nothing, although the domestic staff were very friendly. There was practically nothing about that aweful room that we liked. We were received by one of the cleaning staff, no sign of manager, owner or hostess. Imagine, a guesthouse but no coffee, tea or sugar in the room, apparently 'out of stock', joke of the decade. There was a coffee menu in the room but when wanted to order, sorry, coffee machine out of order. The pics on the website are totally misleading, not at all the room we had. It was not clean, aweful odour hanging in the air, no dish cloths, no toaster, basin chipped and blocked, no proper tap just a plastic pipe coming out the wall. Bathroom so small you had to sit with your feet in the shower. The whole place was not even bigger than a single garage. Toilet not flushing properly and water keeps running at times. Wifi as indicated was non existent when we got there, the Malawian told us he's working on it. Then suddenly the power went of, 2 hours later we 'found' the guy and when we enquired, 'oh sorry I forgot to switch on again. TV channels as per website was nowhere to be found. Netflix asked for a password, that did not work. No other channels and upon enquiring, same guy came to the room, tried something, after half an hour says he's coming back, never returned. Advertised braai facilities but no braai dish, tongs, etc. We were unable to sleep due to the noise on the roof, seems like loose stuff banging in the wind: no maintenance of course. Every time we call we reached another foreigner who does not understand Afrikaans who either is 'sorry', 'don't know' or not speaking a proper English. I was told they did not do refunds. Still no sign of a manager or owner, the hostess turned out to the cleaning lady as well, a Zimbabwean.
Overall our stay that cost over R1000 was a nightmare and the worse guesthouse experience we ever had. Will never make use of bookings.com and wil NEVER recommend Strand Guesthouse.

- December (1/5): It was not a pleasant stay and poor accommodation - Accommodation address was changed and I was informed however the alternative accommodation was a disappointment. The bed that had a thin sponge not a mattress and it was very uncomfortable, upper floor foot stamping on floor, the noise that came from there was a nuisance throughout the night. The general hygiene of the place was a problem. The value of amount paid for the initial accommodation booked did not match the alternative accommodation provided. When I asked the person responsible for the property with regards to same standard, she confirmed however to the contrary it was the opposite.

- Herman (8/5): It was really enjoyable staying at the B&B, and I would highly recommend it to any traveler. - I really enjoyed my stay! The B&B had a lovely serene feel to it, and the staff member was extremely friendly and genial. The room was also very cozy. I did find some mold on the inside of the curtain due to the humidity within the room, however this could easily be overcome with a chemical agent - or by instailing a humidifier/air purifier during the evening hours.

Location is fantastic, 6 mins walk from the beach at the Strand. The specific room where I stayed this time, was a bit dark and airless.
