- William J R (4/5): Disappointed this time. - Sorry to say that I can no longer recommend The Royal Frenchmen. I’ve stayed a few times before and it was great but this time there were several issues at check in, the hotel was not responsive on the hotels.com messaging feature, and the toilet didn’t work in my room. It was disappointing because previous stays were excellent and I hope they can return to their previous standard.
- Rita (6/5): Reservation date mistake at hotel - The hotel could not find our reservation. Finally they did a search and found that in their system they had my reservation dates wrong even though they were correct in the hotels.com system and on my confirmation. The hotel staff never wanted to see my confirmation even though I offered multiple times. Finally the staff switched the dates in their system and we eventually got checked in.
- John (4/5): - Liked the location, walkable to Bourbon St, riverfront and Frenchman St. Disappointed in breakfast, was just bagels and waffles, cereals and coffee, I expected more. Showers were hit and miss, had a couple of cold ones! Air Cond did not work till the last morning we were there. I was given 2 free drink coupons as compensation. Would not stay here again.
- Jeanne (10/5): - I want to discourage everyone from staying at the Royal Frenchman… in order to keep this place to myself! Don’t stay here if want a modern hotel, with many modern amenities, lacking in character and charm. Don’t stay if colorful staff with a passion for the music of New Orleans ( which they bring nightly to the hotel lobby or courtyard) is not your thing. Don’t stay if listening to music wafting in from Frenchman street late into the night seems annoying. But you have a passion for the people, the food, the character and especially the music of New Orleans, then the Royal Frenchman’s your place!

Sizable rooms, nice AC, charm, character and steps to the best live music in the Quarter. Is there a chance you'll be awoken at 3am by a (darn good) trumpeter walking home? Sure, but if that s a dealbreaker maybe NOLA isn't for you.
- Jamie (8/5): - I stayed at the Royal Frenchmen Hotel and Bar with my dad during a last-minute trip to New Orleans. We booked an ADA room, which was affordable and met our needs after his knee replacement. Overall, the stay was decent—not terrible, but not the best either. The location is great if you love nightlife and jazz—right on the edge of lively Frenchmen Street, with live music both outside and inside the hotel. However, the nightly jazz performances make it difficult for light sleepers to get a full night’s rest. The lobby has charm but could use some maintenance and deep cleaning. Our room had a stale smell when we entered. While the bedding was clean, the stained desk chair and curtains, lack of luggage space, no full-length mirror, and a burned-out bathroom bulb brought the experience down a notch. There are also no windows to look out of in the street-level room, and noise from outside was constant. The courtyard was a nice touch, and rooms with balconies facing it might offer a better stay. I wouldn’t stay here again personally due to the location not matching my preferences, but I would recommend it to those who enjoy live jazz and a lively, late-night atmosphere.
- Sonja (8/5): - The room itself was not that comfortable because the couch looked dirty, but they upgraded us to a 2 bedroom and were in the best location one block from the action of frenchmen street. It was incredible! There was a cute courtyard to relax in and the staff were super helpful and responsive so we would book there again.

- Efrem (6/5): - The property itself is in the best location possible. It is very walkable to everything you will want to see and do. The property has a bar and has music nightly. We stated in room #207 we could hear the music in our room but to us it wasn't too load. We both fell asleep before the music ended. The biggest problem we had was no hot water in room. We didn't complain to management, I'm not sure other than switching rooms changing rooms.
- Laura (6/5): - Checked in and our 2 bedroom suite had not been cleaned. Lots of apologies and they got it done while we were at dinner. After 4 nights they never cleaned our room again. We requested it twice. They brought us 3 clean towels and 3 fitted sheets. It's a quaint little boutique hotel on the very edge of the French Quarter. Most of the employees were very kind, but never followed up on tgeir promises.
- Bobby (2/5): - Location was good. However, owner and staff were unhelpful. We reserved a king room with balcony a month ago. When we got there they didn't have our reservation. By their own admission, their computer system is outdated and doesn't communicate with Expedia. We were due a refund off $108. They said get it from Expedia. Expedia said get it from the hotel. I guess we're screwed. The room we got was about the size of a walk-in closet. Very disappointed. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL OR EXPEDIA.
- Paul (8/5): - This is a great boutique hotel at the top of Frenchman Street (which is a more authentic version of Bourbon street). It's a great hotel and location for access to the bars, restaurants and live music the street has to offer - which goes on to at least midnight. Thus, if what you want is peace and quiet at 10pm then this is probably not the place for you! The room was lovely and to a high specification - however, whether we were at the end of a long pipe run, the hot water took and age to actually arrive, and it only just got hot enough to shower. Breakfast is also rather casual and a bit "hit & miss" (maybe they expected everyone to go out for brunch??). But we thoroughly enjoyed our four day stay - and would stay again if we were in New Orleans. There is no parking provided (we dumped our rental car on arrival in NOLA as you can use the Jazzy Pass to get around) but this a common issue and we planned accordingly.

- Derek (8/5): - My family really enjoyed this hotel and its proximity to local eats and live music. The bartender was fantastic and she made unique, tailored drinks for her guests. The only thing that could have been better was hot shower water being more consistent, but the historic nature of the property could be the cause of this. Other than that, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. There was live music in the lobby every night! We would definitely consider staying here again!

- James (2/5): No room at the inn - I made a reservation at the Royal Frenchman for two nights at the conclusion of a cruise. When I got to the hotel at 11am I was told the room was not ready. I then sat for three hours. When I enquired at 2:30 I was told there was a note on my reservation that I had been upgrade at no charge but the room was not ready. At 3pm I enquired again. She said let me go see if the room is ready. She returned and played with her computer. Then she said it looks like we overbooked and we do not have a room for you. But, do not worry, you will get a refund. I asked her what I was supposed to do. She said "that's not my job." I found another hotel and Uber'd there. Now back at home, I find out the hotel charged me again for that first night. And, I have not received any refund. I call the hotel but no one returns my call.

Marigny is a little gem just outside the Quarter and definitely a MUST visit if you’re coming to NOLA. Royal Frenchman is a lovely and unique little place nestled in the neighborhood and has the best vibe. 5-stars across the board!

- Jennifer (4/5): Like a glorified hostel - Was terribly disappointed in the hotel overall. Felt more like a hostel. Room was in the attic with a slanted ceiling, so if you’re anywhere close to 6ft, you won’t fit. No closet (just a small rod with about 4 hangers) so suitcases had to sit on the ground. And although the bathroom looked like it had been upgraded, there was no outlet so good luck trying to dry your hair (though ironically they provided a hair dryer?) Also it’s right on Frenchmen street so it’s loud regardless, but there’s live music in the lobby so you hear that too. It’s fine if you don’t want to sleep during your stay. It was so rough, we checked out 4 nights early and booked a different hotel in the garden district.
- Kim (10/5): Nice Hotel and Best Spot for Music - We just stayed here on a Friday night before moving into the Quarter. The neatest thing about Royal Frenchmen is the music they have in the lobby every night. There’s only room for 20-30 people, so you’re right up on the performers, and there are 6-8 other places to listen to music on Frenchmen within 2-3 blocks if you prefer. There’s a nice bar in the room Nextdoor. The downside is that the music continues until midnight or 1:00 am on the weekend if you go to bed early. Also the staff are nice, you get a simple breakfast, and we came back three other times over the week, as it’s become our favorite place for music in NOLA
- LaToya (4/5): - I want to give a fair and balanced review, so I will start with the positives. The boutique hotel is located on the corner of Royal and Frenchmen street and within walking distance to great restaurants and live music. The hotel lobby has charm and a nice courtyard. I also enjoyed the live music in the evening. Please note this is not the type of hotel to get a lot of rest given the live music and activities late into the evening. Now the challenges. While I submitted a request for early checkin...I never heard back from the hotel and our room was not ready for a 3pm check- in. When we finally got into our room around 3:30, the room was not fully cleaned, it was missing the iron and the remote control was missing a battery and inoperable. We immediately went to front desk and she worked to rectify the situation, however we never received the robes as indicated on the website. That evening as we pulled out the sofa bed, there were food particles and dirt on the mattress cover... we called to get new bedding. The next morning I contacted the front desk for housekeeping and they said they would arrive between 10-2. That afternoon we came back to the room, close to 3:30 and our room had not been cleaned. We contacted the manager about all of the issues and he along with housekeeping tidy up the room while we waited outside. We stayed for three nights and given the issues I won't stay again, but the manager did remove the parking charges bc of problems we had the first 2 days

- Matthew Paul (6/5): - Hard to get my room cleaned even when I followed the directions to get a refresh. Loud, they need to do something to sound proof the rooms. The breakfast was not really a breakfast. Staff were nice. Hallway had the same ball of hair/dust outside the elevator all five days of our stay. I’d stay again but, would like them to get the feedback!
- Takhmina (10/5): - We stayed at the Royal Frenchmen Hotel for a short weekend break, and it was great; it is a boutique hotel located in the heart of the French Quarter. It was clean, the room was spacious, and the bathroom had a walk-in shower. The hotel has a bar, and the bartender was great at mixing cocktails. Different live bands perform each night. check in was smooth, if you are looking for a quiet place, it may not be a good choice for you as the hotel is located in a very vibrant neighborhood with many bars and clubs working till early hours of morning *though it may be a case of Mardi Gras celebrations. I'll definitely be looking forward to my next visit and stay. there.

- Marsha (4/5): - I booked this hotel for the location and availability of parking. It looked nice as we checked in and went to our room. Then things took a turn for the worse. The bed was firmer than the floor and very uncomfortable. We had to call the front desk to check the water heater every time we wanted a shower. It was still only warm and not hot. All rooms can hear the band in the bar all night. There were very good bands playing in the bar. The front desk staff were not familiar with local companies. As an example we asked if we could get a carriage ride from the hotel for sight seeing. They said I would need to look that up online. We will not stay here in our future visits to the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfect location for great music and food nearby! - The staff members are friendly and attentive. The bar has great craft cocktails. The live music is fun. However, being that it's an old building, keep in mind that your room may not have electrical outlets in the bathroom (a challenge for blow drying your hair, as that's the only place our room had a mirror.) Also, our room had no accessible/functioning windows so after a couple of days, the room was very muggy/stuffy - no fans, no way to open a window.

Insanely amazing music downstairs in the lobby each night. The rooms were clean and the bed was firm and very comfortable. It's a quirky boutique hotel so if you're looking for a luxury hotel, this is not the place. It's also really loud at night with the live music. But for us that was a selling point. We LOVED the music and it was so fun to come home after a full day exploring New Orleans to have a cocktail and listen to some amazing musicians right in the lobby. We will definitely stay here again and really loved out whole experience.

- John (10/5): - This is a unique hotel, that I LOOK FORWARD TO STAYING AT AGAIN. It is very unique as in the evening the hotel lobby is a popular live music venue. The front desk clerk during the evening is juggling bands changing out and guests checking in. In my case, when I arrived in the evening and the band was in full swing, I didn't know where to enter to check in. I wandered down the drive-way past the BBQ food truck and saw an entry to the courtyard. It was there where I met the front desk person hanging out with her laptop. She identified me as a bewildered guest and said she would check me in the courtyard because it is so loud at her reception desk. I was concerned that the 2nd Floor room would be noisy. While my room was not over the band and instead faced the BBQ Food truck, it was very quiet. The quality of the room was very good. The bathroom, the size or the room, and sound proofing was very good. The mattress was firm. The negatives would only be the pillow cases seemed a bit corse (threadcount?) Breakfast was nothing to much than some granola bars and instant cereals. Just a few doors down across the street, there is a very good breakfast place with reasonable prices. I ate there every day. I really like the staff and the quirky vibe of the cool music downstairs and the first class room. I will gladly stay here again.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Charming but be prepared for lots of live music - The location of this hotel can’t be best. It’s an historic building and very charming. However, the live music every night goes until late and the ear plugs at checkin are your first indication that if you are a light sleeper, you are in for a rough ride.
- Jessica (10/5): - A lovely boutique hotel posed just far enough from the bars on Frenchman to give a buffer from the crowds when you’re ready for a retreat. Regular live jazz in the bar downstairs. A gorgeous courtyard for reading and meeting other guests. A great group of people run this hotel.

- Lisandro (10/5): - This was a very nice, cozy hotel. Not too big but that’s what made it even better. The vibes were great. They have a bar downstairs for happy hour to start your night off. They had a live band playing to end the night and they were awesome. There are plenty of places to drink or eat near by to take in the culture of New Orleans. Great atmosphere. My wife and I stayed for our anniversary and we loved it. It was a great experience and better to stay at than a high end fancy hotel.

- Erin (6/5): - The Royal Frenchmen is NOISY. We were told at check in that it would be loud until 1AM since our room was on the first floor and right next to the conference room and lobby where a stage was set up (and across from a public mens bathroom). The music was festive but then there was loud music played from cars outside and talking immediately outside our door and the big glass doors facing the street until 5am. Then the crows started squawking! Don’t stay here if you need to sleep…but a good landing place for your suitcases while you explore Frenchmen street! Bathroom amenities and breakfast spread were delightful and staff were very kind.

- Gina (4/5): - We liked the area just out of the French Quarter. Lots of dining and bar options. We didn't like the room location (rm 101) on the ground floor. The street was just outside the room so we really couldn't keep the door that covered the window open for security reasons. The room was therefore always dark, and all the lights needed to be on at all times. we could literally hear all conversations going on in the breakfast room, as was more of a meeting/study room at night. Loud voices were herd well into the night, esp the second night we were there. We had to call the desk to complain about the noise, well after midnight. breakfast was bagels/packaged muffins. That was ok. The bar/music that is advertised has been suspended indefinitely due to some kind of politics with the neighborhood. No room service was ever offered, garbage cans overflowing, always had to ask for towels. Management has lots of work to do at this property I feel, and only use that room 101 if the person staying there is in a wheelchair ! I cannot recommend this property !
- Henry (10/5): - Great little boutique hotel right on Frenchmen Street. It is close to so much in the Marigny and French Quarter. We were able to walk pretty much everywhere we wanted to go! The nightlife on Frenchmen Street is vibrant, fun and full of music! The neighborhood can be noisy but we understood that when we booked. Comfortable and cozy rooms with gorgeous bathrooms! The courtyard was a highlight for us and we spent hours out there just enjoying the space, drinking coffee and cocktails. We miss it already and can't wait to come and stay again! Thanks to Tyler and the whole crew there for an excellent stay!
- Kimberly (10/5): Best hotel on Frenchmen st. - Loved this hotel, i loved their friendliness, loved our room we had the 2 queen bedroom suite perfect for friends. Lived they have a elevator. These historic hotels dont always have that. We stayed on the courtyard but i would book again and not worry with luggage & their elevator. Plus right in the heart of Frenchmen st music scene
- Adam (10/5): Room 101 - We stayed fro two nights. The first night we were late and were given room 101. It was nice until late a night and extremely loud. We got moved to another room and was extremely satisfied with all the amenities. Staff was friendly and accommodating!

- Jennifer (8/5): Not worth it. - I would love to have given this place 5 starts all across the board. The room was very nice, small but nice, the balcony was a great feature. However it felt like the air was on and it was about 50 degrees outside. I was painfully cold the entire stay. Turned the heat on but it didn't warm up at all. When I called the desk, whoever answered said they would be up to help and never showed. The service here is also subpar. Whoever was at the desk both days barely took the time to look up at us from their computer during check in and when we asked him about dinner options he had already forgotten 5 minutes later and when we reminded him again, he still never helped us with that. The bartender had disgusting visibly dirty hands (like he was gardening or working on a car)and freely put his naked hands in the garnish dishes and in our drinks. For such a high class place I expected better drinks or preparation but these were clearly local kids who knows nothing about running a luxury hotel. There is lots music playing until 1am which was lovely but could be upsetting if you aren't aware it's going to be happening. I was so disappointed. Definitely not worth the money we spent.
- Brittany (10/5): - This was the nicest hotel experience I’ve had in the longest time. Not only did the rooms feel luxurious, the vibe of the hotel was so cool. They are a hopping jazz venue. Maybe that isn’t for everyone, as music is played in the lobby well into the night, but if you’re coming to New Orleans for jazz and culture It surrounds you at the Royal Frenchmen! Being able to hear the bands warming up and getting started for the evening as we got ready for dinner in our room was so nice, and ending our evening with a night cap and some jazz in the lobby before turned in was perfection. The staff was also so fantastic! Though they do not have a concierge, every staff member had great recommendations. Bryce in particular was so helpful in planning my trip. I called a few days before to check in and ask some questions and he spent 45 minutes making sure I had our whole trip planned out. He was amazing, our stay was amazing. I can’t imagine being anywhere else!

We sat in the balcony of our room and people watched as we drank our coffee. Jazz bands below each night. It was an amazing stay! Highly recommend. Very cool vibe.

There is no chance to sleep prior to then unless you're are passed out or dead. Otherwise, the hotel was clean, staff friendly and the room was very nice.

Live music right under our room until 2a then you can hear music playing outside. If you need a nap or want to rest day or night, well then you are out of luck. Smells outside hotel of pee and vomit. Bryce was wonderful, made check-in a breeze, was extremely helpful and beyond talented. He played in the house band with several other great musicians. The location is superb and walking distance to several local jazz spots, as well as the center of the the Quarter. Please try Vice and Virture!!! They just opened and it was the best brunch we have ever had! The hotel itself was quite charming. The small boutique vibe pulled at our heart strings and one stroll into the courtyard we knew this was the spot- we found where we want to get married! It was an incredible time and we can’t wait to return!

- James W (10/5): The Hidden Jewel of New Orleans - The Royal Frenchman is a hidden jewel in New Orleans. Super clean, super safe parking, super safe at night, very helpful staff, great courtyard, and the LIVE MUSIC IS FANTASTIC !!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Avoid. This is not a hotel, it’s a building with rooms! Upon arrival, there was nobody at the desk. I had to wait in line at the bar to find someone who worked there, needless to say, the bartender couldn’t care about us. After a half hour we finally got our keys. The room was just okay. No working tv, no ice machine, curtain falling down. Found someone the next day to fix tv and they actually made it worse. They explained that if I needed ice I would have to go to the bar ( fun!). Two days (of four) they didn’t clean the room. One day they did but never removed trash, which we left nicely on the desk. I don’t think they have more than one person at a time working here, unless it’s night, then they have an active music scene. The music is good but not at one a.m.!! I don’t usually write reviews, and we are quite “seasoned “ travelers, I would really look elsewhere.
