The house is old so it's not for people who want beaches, pools and modern environments. It is for people who love the age and history, the balconies and great food. - andre.principe.ceia (10/5): Uma forma maravilhosa de conhecer a Ilha do Princípe, uma das mais bonitas no mundo. - A Roça Sundy combina o conforto e a modernização dos espaços com a manutenção de uma aura histórica e cultural que nos motiva a conhecer mais da sua história e da Ilha do Princípe. As experiências disponibilizadas são excelentes, recomendando desde já a Rota do Cacau, onde ficamos a conhecer melhor a própria Roça. O Staff foi sempre muito atencioso, os quartos são muito bons com todas as comodidades necessárias e as refeições são sublimes. O único reparo que deixo é que por vezes o staff do hotel não estava bem alinhado quanto ao modo de funcionamento das experiências e dos transfers, sendo preferível recorrer aos vários guias da HBD para recolher mais informações ou solicitar algumas alterações às experiências existentes. Ainda assim, todos muito solícitos.

- Diego (8/5): Beautiful, peaceful hotel at an absurd price - The chance to sleep in an old roça can’t be missed, and the hotel does a good job at providing a comfortable experience. Although it’s not by the beach, you can either hike along the jungle path to the beach 20 minutes downhill, or take the free shuttle to Bombom. Food was also quite good. Price point is really really off. At almost €500/night you just don’t get that money’s worth—you’d expect perhaps a pool or a gym on the grounds, full board rather than half, or a full day of activities rather than a half day. The issue is likely that all the good hotels are owned by HBD so there is no competition.

- Ezequiel (6/5): Belo local com praia maravilhosa, atitude incompreensível por parte do Hotel (ou seu staff) - O local é interessante e tem transfers do aeroporto e para a praia Bom Bom, visto que este hotel não é perto da praia nem tem piscina. A comida do restaurante é boa. A praia do Bom Bom é maravilhosa. Fizemos a caminada da Rota do Cacau pela floresta, que é muito interessante. Os preços das coisas são elevados, mas aquilo é remoto e por esse motivo entende-se em parte isso. Para a nossa saída disseram-nos que quando fosse a saída podíamos sair mais tarde, porque também chegamos bastante mais tarde e o local é remoto e longe de tudo. No dia anterior fui confirmar à receção se não havia problema ir de manhã para a praia e voltar no transfer, que é às 13h00, visto que o voo era às 16h20, disseram que estava tudo bem. Na manhã seguinte, por volta das 9h00, quando estavamos a entrar no transporte para a praia, vieram dizer que tínhamos de deixar o quarto até às 10h00, porque afinal vinha alguém naquele dia para ocupar o nosso quarto e queriam entrar mais cedo. Nessa deslocação para a praia iam pessoas nas mesmas circunstâncias que nós, que iam no mesmo voo e puderam aproveitar até mais tarde sem problemas. De referir que o hotel estava longe de estar cheio, se estivesse com 50% de acupação, era muito. Não deu para compreender essa atitude e também ficou sem uma explicação razoável.

- Christophe (7/5): Pourquoi ne pas directement proposer le meilleur et attendre que le client se plaigne? - Que l’hôtel reconnaisse qu’il nous ont offert une des plus mauvaises chambres de l’hôtel. Alors que nous avons payé plus de CHF 500.- par nuit et qu’ils avaient parfaitement la possibilité de nous loger bien mieux (hôtel de loin pas complet), on nous ait offert une des pires chambres de l’établissement. Que nous ayons dus faire remarquer au gérant que la chambre était indigne du niveau revendiqué par l’hôtel, pour obtenir des excuses et un changement de chambre.

A vista é absolutamente deslumbrante e a simpatia do pessoal ultrapassa qualquer eventual problema. Gostei de tudo. Como sugestão diria que devia haver mais atenção na reposição do pequeno almoço pois a mesa não é muito grande e quando há mais gente ao mesmo tempo os artigos esgotam-se e não deve ser necessário pedir a reposição.

- Rick (10/5): - We had a great stay here. Initially, we were planning to stay at their beach location, but decided to give this one a try for two nights, and we are so glad we did. We did not have high expectations going in, but the experience truly exceeded them. The food was excellent, and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. We had read some reviews mentioning that the staff didn’t speak much English, but we could really see how much effort they have put into improving this, they did their absolute best and communication was never a problem. The highlight was definitely the view from our room, it was absolutely breathtaking. Photos just don’t do it justice!

- Angela (9/5): - The property is beautiful, breakfast and dinner are excellent, and the excursions are great. Wear long pants and sleeves and lots of insect repellant for any forest walks. You are not well informed of timing changes for activities, nor are you likely to be told about additional opportunities like free transfers to Praia Sundy and BomBom. I was asked every day which activity I was doing the next day, though I had confirmed them all repeatedly. It's a good idea to repeatedly check in with staff to get updated information, and to take advantage of the things you can do as part of your stay.

The lack of programmes in days with rain and less flexibility on the tours (all start at 13:00 or in the morning). It would be nice if the guests could use the facilities of the other hotels in the island.

- Nicoletta (10/5): Exceptional - Traveling in time becomes real in this place. The colonial building breaths of history and walking inside its like a stroll in a museum. If you are fond of vintage this is the place to be. Located in the middle of a lush forest surrounded by cocoa plantations the nature is all around. There is stunning view from the rooms in the main building and bird watching can be done directly from the veranda. The food (quality, taste and presentation) is undoubtedly the best on the island. We traveled all around the island and here we ate the tastiest meals made of local ingredients. The rooms are spacious with comfy big beds and there are even some vintage pieces of furniture. There are some high quality amenities made of local organic ingredients. I personally notice details and this hotel just had it all. Absolutely nothing major to complain about.
- Barbara (7/5): Nice experience but many things to be improved to justify the price - -Historic building was very special with beautiful view to the sea -Nice restaurant terrace and bar -Breakfast buffet very nicely decorated with flowers and food was good -Included activities were nice -Rooms: have seen better times (air con did not cool down enough, rug spotty and did not seem very clean, no vanity sets, and at times at 6pm no more hot water in shower, hardly anywhere to hang towels to dry, bathroom floor with brown marks that should be cleaned, no pillows on the hard wooden lounge chairs on the terrace -Restaurant: staff friendly but seemed a bit incompetent and non responsive at times; orders forgotten, orders at times took way too long (57 minutes for a hamburger!) -Breakfast nicely presented but no refills long before breakfast ended -Activities included: some of the guides were quite clueless / did not warn clients from any dangers such as jumping head forward into a rock pool / no warnings about touching anything under water / guides did not seem to have any first aid kits with them on walking excursions.

The chef as done tailored vegan meals for us every night...which was fantastic. Attention to detail and friendly staff always happy to help. They have great activities included in the rate. Totally recommend 👌 Our room was not located on the main house and was above what seemed to be a staff kitchen. As result there was some noise early in the mornings and strong food smells that probably we were more sensitive to it because we don't eat meat or fish.

- Toni (7/5): Beautiful hotel campus but lacking in organization - The hotel is a work in progress converting a prior cocoa/coffee plantation into a hotel with some building converted and others in planning. If you want the experience of plantation life, it excels. Kudos to the hotel for all it is doing to support the small population on Principe Island - not just employment, but education, healthcare, road improvements. The hotel has an immense problem with communication. Part of the problem is that there is a paucity of English speakers and many of those that have some English skills can speak but have trouble understanding conversational English. An investment by the hotel in English conversation for its employees interacting with guests would be money well spent. All that said, maybe some of the following comments are not accurate because they were "lost in translation". We were met by a non-English speaking driver and checked into the hotel by a non-English speaker. No information was given. It would behoove the management to at least have some written English information regarding how the restaurant, the included tours operated, and nearby walking options (for example, to the beach). At no time were the tours described to us or was any effort made to ask us what tours we preferred. Tours were assigned to us and we did management to change one tour with considerable insistence on our part. On another occasion, we asked to stay at the beach after the boat tour, but were told no transport back to the hotel would bee available for 5 hours. On another tour, our 9:00 start did not occur until 9:40. Similarly, the dinner selection menu had just a few choices the first couple nights and we thought we would have to repeat meals the third night only to find out that it was a set menu (with foods we liked) that night. Again, no explanations given though I suspect it was due to the number of guests at the hotel. The hotel could really use the expertise of the superb hotel manager at Omali.

But this yes because it‘s a stylish old colonial Building and they have a Perfect Guide system to take you out to excursions by 4WD or to go their the beach hotel for 20€ which is a correct price. Not and issue except that the menu card is not very big.

- Rebecca (10/5): Great stay on magical principe - Fantastic stay at Roca Sundy. We had a room in the new wing and it was great. Highlights are the tours (especially with the boat) and the delicious food which was amazing and even better than what we would have expected. The music on some evenings made dinner even more special. The path to the beach was quite slippery if it had rained, and it would have been even nicer to have some chairs on the beach also for guests of Roca Sundy

- R (10/5): Great stay at Sundy Praia. - I am rating Sundy Praia and not Roça Sundy as we were offered an upgrade and stayed in the villas instead, which was a nice surprise. All was beyond perfect, the villas in the jungle and their private beach were absolutely stunning! Food was good too, place is calm and clean, and the staff, in particular the young men at the front desk will go the extra mile to make you feel home! Staff should refill food and dessets at breakfast and dinner buffets so guests that arrive later have also the same options -not all products are available at all times, in particular desserts. Bit of poor organisation with the free daily activities for the guests, some were fully booked for the day after when we arrived there hence we had to stick to the available options.

- Knut (9/5): Unforgettable and unique stay in a beautifully renovated plantation with a very special atmosphere and warm staff - Well kept and faithfully renovated plantation providing a glimpse into Príncipe’s colonial history. Nice and comfortable rooms. Stylish yet cozy restaurant with garden and orchids, overlooking the combined rainforest and cocoa plantation hillsides down towards the sea, dotted with tall, tropical trees. The stay may be pricey, but includes breakfast and three courses dining of high international standard, Portuguese wine, and in the daytime unlimited transportation and guided tours of your choice. Nowhere to go without transportation, although this is provided by the hotel free of charge.

- Verified traveler (4/5): Lovely island; hotel staff is disappointing - Príncipe is a beautiful place. However, this hotel doesn’t offer much beyond a clean room. Food is subpar and uninteresting, activities are difficult to organize, and staff - despite being largely well-intentioned - is useless. Separately, I had a horrible time checking out. The assistant manager, despite seeing my payment confirmation, grew very hostile (I continue to think he was looking to charge me a second time in order to pocket some money). This ending left me with a poor taste in my mouth. I would definitely recommend visiting Príncipe because it is so beautiful but would strongly advise you to stay elsewhere.
- Miroslaw (10/5): Simply beautiful hotel - Hotel is located in old plantation. The main house is renoved and designed in colonial style. Room was very big and comfortable, with beautiful tarrace and view. Equipment was great: all you need you can easily find or just ask for this. Staff was extra-nice and very helpful. They are open and smile. You can use their shuttle service to Santo Antonio, Bom Bom Island and airport. Meels was great and tasty. You can eat something from local or continental cuisine. Everything was fresh and high-quality.
