Guest Reviews
- Janis (10/5): - Everything was great, right in old port Chania
- Shay (10/5): - Very nice people
The room Very clean
Good location
- Helen (10/5): - Fantastic location. Great view from the balcony. Hotel staff was very friendly and very responsive to questions. Overall a great experience!
- Olena (9/5): Nice apartment, stunning view - The main reason we chose this hotel was the view – and it did not disappoint! The view of the lighthouse is simply stunning. Overall, the apartment was nice: a separate bedroom, a living room, a kitchen with a stove if you want to cook something, and a rather small bathroom, though it wasn’t a big issue. Everything was very clean.
The staff were friendly and the breakfasts were good, although they were the same every day.
The location is right in the city center, which means there are many cafés and bars nearby – this can be both a plus and a minus. Since the apartment is in the center, there's a bar directly below that turns on loud bass music at 11 PM and keeps it going until 5 AM. If you're a light sleeper, this can be a real problem – earplugs are a must. Also, there are always a lot of people around.
- Aisling (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tracy Anne (10/5): - The room had everything we needed, comfortable bed, balcony, powerful shower, sofa and kitchenette. Beds were made up everyday. Everyone was friendly, helpful and made us feel so welcome. Would definitely go back again
- Jayde (10/5): - Beautiful room with a great view, and perfect location for exploring the waterfront in Chania.
- Silvia Huerta (10/5): - Had a nice balcony and view of the water 😊
- Tim (10/5): Clean and modern room, staff epitomize hospitality - Great location, excellent staff, Eleftheria at check in was exceptional, used WhatsApp to communicate and no problem with late checkin. Spotless room, balcony with view of snowcapped mountains. Old world feel to the building, everything in rooms modern, excellent design and paintings. AC excellent!
Lots of great food options close by, near the Venetian harbour.
- D.bastos (9/5): Beautiful view in the centre - Outstanding view over the harbour. Nice high ceilings and natural light. Breakfast was also good. The bathroom is quite small but it's new and serves it's purpose well. It can be a little noisy from the bars outside, but one can expect that when staying in the centre. It didn't actually bother me and I could sleep really well.
- Johanna (8/5): Very good - The location is perfect. We had an apartment with the street view. But the house has a roof, where you can go and enjoy the sea and sunset views. The kitchen had everything even coffee tablets. If you have big suitcases and not very healthy knees, the apartments are on the 3rd floor and no elevator. We had just hand luggage and no problem.
- Christine (8/5): Would recommend but stay on the street side - One of the rooms was on the back facing the harbour and next to a very noisy night club open most of the night. The other room was facing the street and. Try quiet
- Zsofia (8/5): Good location but noisy - Location Every dawn (5.30) there was a very strong noise crashing glass
- Vladyslav (8/5): Very good -
- Christophe (8/5): - Nice location with lovely views over the town and harbour.
Caution: reception and breakfast room at 2 other different locations, albeit within walking distance
- Natasha (4/5): Awful experience! - Upon arrival we were told there was no shuttle service available and we would have to walk 15 min from the bus station in a heat advisory with our luggage. We were not able to secure an early check in so we walked around as they don’t have a real lobby. The small lobby they do have is extremely warm even with fans blowing. Here’s the juicy part, there is no where on the ad where it states the room is located away from where you check in. We had to walk some more up a hill through the town on cobblestone. The only decent part was they had a guy help with the luggage. Upon getting to the actual room, we were told there is NO ELEVATOR and we had to walk up 3 flights of stairs. For someone with previous knee injuries, this was not ideal. Getting into the room we sat on a hard as a wooden board couch, and although the building is old, it just wasn’t clean. It was quite dusty and we ended up wiping everything down. After 1 night we decided we could not keep hiking those stairs everyday of the trip. I went to the reception desk to inform them of all the issues and rather than an apology for their lack of transparency about the state of the property and the lack of amenities, I was met with constant argument. I checked out and requested a refund for the remaining days as we had to find another hotel and was told by them they could not do so. I had Expedia contact them and they doubled down. DO NOT STAY HERE! These people are dishonest and not helpful!
- Larry (8/5): Very good - Was close to the harbour No elevator
- Magda (10/5): - Beautiful hidden gem. The most amazing view from our balcony. Staff were amazing and accommodating. Would definitely stay there again.
- Bogdan (9/5): Superb -
- Mia (1/5): Bad -
- Yasmin (6/5): Nice apartments, helpful staff, too noisy - Clean apartment with adequate facilities and ammenities. Kind hosts that walked us to the accomodation. Great views over the port and right in the centre of town. Situated right top of a nightclub, so you will hear loud music and glass bottles until early hours of the morning! Id strongly recommend ear plugs to be provided if you are a light sleeper!
Really difficult to find the accomodation and find parking if you have a car. Also no elevator lift, so prepare to climb 3 flights of stairs with heavy suitcases.
- Ann (8/5): great had everything we needed and the location couldn’t be better - great location, fantastic apartment
- Alena (8/5): A pleasant hotel in the heart of Chania - The hotel is located in a slightly different place to where you collect the keys, but was easy enough to find. The room was on the second floor, the views were nice (not facing the marina). The bed was comfortable and the AC worked well. The shower was possibly the most powerful shower I've ever seen! I thought it would take off to space when I turned it on. Has some minor decor imperfections but nothing to complain about.
- Stratos (9/5): Superb - Great location, friendly and helpful staff
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ryan (7/5): Good - Being centrally located Too many stairs. No lift
- Venizelos (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bruno (8/5): Schön, aber … - Grosse Wohnung mit 2 Zimmer.Kleiner Balkon.
Kücheneinrichtung minimal. AC super.
Kein Lift, 3 Treppen. Tolle Aussicht auf den Hafen
Zentrale Lage. Parkplätze sehr beschränkt !
Reception ca. 500 Meter entfernt.
- Amira (8/5): Very good -
- Antoaneta (9/5): Great location, staff, best views, clean, soundproofed from outside - Great location, staff, best views, clean, quiet; management arranged to pick us up from airport at 22:30 for extra fee, the driver was very nice, professional, spoke great English and was good tour guide. Someone waited in the apt to check us in @11pm sofa-bed not comfortable; wish there was at least a washer, even a dryer
- Andrea (7/5): Great location, good value for money! - The room was nice, nothing too extravagant, overall good value for money - didn't expect anything more!
It is basically apartments, on a little uphill. The location was perfect, breakfast was 5 mins walk, so was reception. The staff was very nice and helpful. A cleaner came everyday. They offer a kettle if you ask for coffee! There's a little additional upstairs balcony with a nice view. The room was on the 3rd floor, no stairs so it was a bit of an exercise, and we weren't informed! Also, unfortunately there is a night club just outside and while the windows are pretty insulated you can hear loud music until the early hours of the morning! And the power went out. I wouldn't have commented on this as they told us it was because they were conducting construction in a nearby building and it was fixed within the hour, however I noticed that other reviews included a power cut... overall happy with the experience though!
- Helin (10/5): The best in Chania! - The location of the place is wonderful! It is so near to the port and whenever you want you can return to the house! It was so clean, everything was very well-organized. They let us to make check-in very early in the Morning and it was pleasure for us!The lady who made check-in gave us local food suggestions and all of them were satisfied! It was one of the best accomadation ever we had! Thank you😊 Nothing!
- Vasileios (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (9/5): Superb - The property is in a quiet but central location in this beautiful city, very close to the harbour. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and we slept really well. The shower is really powerful with loads of hot water. I thoroughly recommend this hotel! The only issue may be for those who find it difficult to climb stairs. We were in room 2 on the second floor, and there were two quite long staircases to climb.
- Alessandro (9/5): Can't Beat It. - The location and price of this hotel is what separates it from the competitors. It was a great stay and was able to accomplish everything I wanted to do. The hotel is slightly smaller than other places but for the price and location it was well worth it.
- Elias (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect 👌👌👌
- Ingrid (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - location was perfect and the view was amazing, exactly what we were hoping for and more. The villa staff couldn’t have been anymore helpful, giving their time and advice and were extremely welcoming. Breakfast and setting were fantastic, would definitely go back.
- Allison (9/5): Location and comfort - Location was great! View of the sunset and the old harbor. The bed was very comfortable. Everything was great. The power did go out but the office responded right away and it was fixed in 30 minutes.
- Ann (8/5): Very good -
- Amy (8/5): Perfect spot for a few days in the city - Communication was good before arrival, and whenever we spoke with staff they were very accommodating.
The apartment was a street behind the main harbour, which made it very central but we didn't have a lot of noise.
The room was a good size, we didn't use the "sitting room" other than for storage.
The Aircon was good, and my partner used the balcony alot to watch below.
Good breakfast spread each morning.
Lots of lighting in the bedroom, and sockets. Although they changed our bed and towels each day, which wasn't necessary, we didn't receive any more coffee or water so had to purchase additional.
The shower was missing a screen so the floor would get very wet, as the shower head needed changing really. It was either on full or off and wasn't easily moved around on the wall.
The bathroom drains were quite smelly, of old wee, all the time but I think this is normal?
- Steve (9/5): Superb -
- Umut (8/5): Very good -
- Dilyana (7/5): Good for a obe night stay - Right at the old town harbour, nice and comfortable bed, free toiletries, clean room. In the living room two of the lamps were not working. There was no table at the terrace, only chairs. It was very noisy at night as there are night clubs under the property.
- Maria (6/5): Good but read the reviews!! - The location and view was amazing. The staff were accommodating and gave me the room I requested. The view from the little balcony was stunning. The room was cleaned to a high standard everyday. I should have read the reviews more carefully… Unfortunately there was a bar near the hotel and it played very loud music until 3am.. needless to say this was not pleasant. Another problem was there was no lift, for obvious reasons. The building is grand listing, so of course it doesn’t have a lift. Unfortunately there is no one available to help with the luggage which is a real problem as the stairs are steep and the rooms are on the second floor. When I asked for help, they were not able to guarantee it. On the day of my departure Andonis, a lovely staff member kindly offered to help me. I am very grateful for his help as I was really worried. I would say, this hotel is not suitable for people with physical disabilities, families or elderly.
- Suanne (7/5): Fine stay - Bed was nice and to have air-conditioning was a plus. It did not feel like the room advertised in the pictures and the balcony had no table. Dishes in the cupboard were dirty and very limited. Only 2 coffee pods, one normal and one decaf.
- Achilleasachilleos (8/5): Very good - Large room , good location It was second floor without a lift
- Myrna (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay at Elia Estia and would go back. Special thanks to Antonia at the front desk who was of great - Clean. Great location. Great view on the old harbour. At night we could hear music from close-by restaurants/bars. The AC was loud too.
- Sierra (7/5): Good - Room was very spacious and location was great
- Amina (8/5): Very good - Great location in the old town right next to harbour. Staff was helpful and friendly.
- Kareem (7/5): The good, the bad, the ugly! - Location is quite nice and in the middle of the old town, walking distance of everything literally. Extreme noise and we didn’t get good night sleep because of the noise and the fights occurred between drunk people. The noise felt like at the flat itself which is extremely uncomfortable.
The balcony has a low ceiling that resulted in having a head bang due to this unusual height of the ceiling.
- Genc (7/5): nice location, nice and clean accommodation but a bit noisy at night. - it was very clean and the location is excellent. As it is located in central, we didn’t sleep well until 4am
- Ioannou (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (7/5): Lovely staff and a great location. We expected the accommodation to be better for the price but it was a little tired an - The view and location Needed a deep clean
Mismatched glasses and not a full set if cutlery.
Damaged sofa bed but useable.
No toaster.
Not enough wardrobe hangers
Not enough drawers.
- Aslı (8/5): Very good - Perfect location and beautiful view. Being a part of the port was incredible. The staff was so gentle and helpful. It is a nice apartment for 2 but if you book for 3 people the bed in the sofa is a huge problem. It is impossible to sleep on it cause you feel the metal pieces of the canepe. But the staff is very kind and they tried to find s solution. Better to stay there as 2 people not 3. The stairs are so high and no evlevator. If you have a big lugage it can be a real headache.
- Daphne (9/5): Superb - Close to everything
- Gourlay (8/5): Very good -
- Kathy (10/5): Magical Room at the Top of the Harbor - You’ll walk up 50 marble steps; elevators are forbidden in Old Town. You’ll have trouble finding taxis; streets are pedestrian-only. You’ll talk with Reception by phone and email.
Your reward will be one of the most magical balconies in Greece, at the top of Chania’s Old Venetian Harbor. We booked the 4th floor One-Bedroom Suite at the Elia Estia Erato building of Elia Hotels and loved every minute. Elia Hotels Group has renovated historic buildings around Chania into over 20 boutique hotels and apartments. It’s not the Ritz, but you can get that in the US. In Greece, the glitches are worth it to experience Chania up close.
Old Venetian Harbor doesn’t just glitter like a storybook–it is a storybook, better and with more history than anything Disney imagined. Our Elia Estia balcony had a panoramic view of colorful baroque buildings, dramatic fortresses, an historic mosque and the medieval lighthouse–all reflecting in the harbor at sunset and at night like a vision. Below us around the harbor were two dozen delicious seaside restaurants all lit up, and a colorful stream of visitors perfect for people watching. In walking distance were huge 16th century monuments to explore and beaches with even more great restaurants.
Mr. Antonis Yiakoumakis, Ms. Despina Liakou, and Ms. Maria at Elia Zampeliou Hotel Reception a few streets away (which was our Reception Desk) helped us so much! They showed why Crete is famous for hospitality–even when coping with historic buildings. When I needed smaller bills, Mr. Yiakoumakis personally took me and my 50 Euro bill door to door among local tavernas as waiters whizzed by with heavy trays, until we found a cashier with change.
The ambiance was superb, the local food is fantastic, and most important, the people are wonderful. When the city tore up a nearby street, Ms. Despina escorted us to and from our building. I want to go back and take them all out for lunch! Historic buildings don’t have a lot of furniture. There were no drawers for clothing. They also lacked luggage stands or any place to put modern clam-shell luggage. But when we needed an extra chair as a luggage stand, they somehow got an extra large table up 3 flights of stairs instead. When we asked for a few extra towels, we got a weeks’ worth. Need something? Just ask! :)
- Sonia (8/5): Very good -
- Andre (2/5): - The pictures of the place is different from than actual property. I was told that they mixed pictures of another property and they offered another location to stay.
- Estere (8/5): Stay was ok - Close to amenities
Reasonable price for breakfast
Staff were great
Bid rooms Too many stairs to go to our room about 40 stairs
- Simmons (8/5): Very good - Great location. The sofa/bed was in poor shape.
- Andrew (8/5): Satisfying - Location, clean, very updated, wonderful overall! The first night the shower didn't get very warm, wasn't cold but not very enjoyable
- Tim (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Samii (8/5): Very good -
- Era (4/5): Disappointed - The location was as advertised. It is very noisy until 4am in the morning, and the partying in the area around the Old Harbor goes on and on (even in October when we visited) and it’s as if it is taking place inside your room. it’s impossible to sleep, even with air plugs, and you might wake up irritated and miss all activities you planned for the morning (beach time, cruises, etc.) Further, watch out not to leave anything behind; the management seems oblivious to an ethical obligation to return a forgotten item. I left behind a pair of pants, and emailed the property 10 minutes after checkout. They claim they did not find them. Hard to argue against such claim; but both I and the cleaning lady know that they were just plainly stolen. They are replaceable, no major harm done. But I won’t go back.
- Zoe (4/5): Disappointing - Great location and beautiful building This is not a hotel it is an appartment.
Unhelpful staff, panicky and rude on the phone and in real life.
No breakfast on location, its in another building
Checkin not on location, you need to walk 300m with luggage, so 600m round trip down windy cobbled hilly streets to reach it.
No towels at locarion
- Roxana (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place! And there's a hot sauna shower on the first floor. Am super grateful for this experience. Thank you! Thank you! They did not replenish the coffee ... but I am sure if I called they would have bought some. Minor issue.
- Zoe (2/5): Dissappinted - Lovely location This is not a hotel. Its appartments. Check in is 300m from from the room, the people on the desk are grumpy. There were no towels despite asking 3 times over 24 hours. Breakfast is on another location not at check in place nor the the sleeping location.
- Jay22101 (9/5): Perfect location, great price, and wondeful newly refurbished property. - Perfectly refurbished apartment-style property with a great master bedroom loft. The property was brand new and would be the perfect kind of apartment for a couple, group of friends, or a family. Great value for money in the location and excellent new fixtures and amenities were available. Would highly recommend this Because it was such a new property, they didn't have some items like a hair dryer or iron in the room. We were able to get those from the reception, which is a short five minute walk away.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything was great. It was clean, central to everything. There are two nightclubs right below, and in Greece the clubs go on until 4am so just keep that in mind.
The AC and YouTube can drown out the 2000s pop beats. Everything is really great, it’s just loud at night.
- Sharron (9/5): excellent, would definitely recommend the property - it’s location particularly the balcony, rooms were excellent and showers lovely and powerful quite noisy in the early hours of the morning
- Sue (8/5): - Very close proximity to major viewing sites and newly renovated room but the partying noise in the neighborhood can be heard til 2 to 3 am everyday
- Leah (3/5): not great - good location. 1. bad shower - no door (water sprayed everywhere) and bad shower head
2. bed gave me allergies and rashes
3. no elevator (lots of stairs and very steep)
4. reception isn’t at the location (we left our luggage at the hotel the day we left and because we only got 1 key that we had to give back earlier they promised us somebody would be waiting for us to open the door as it’s locked and they were late so we missed our bus to the airport)
5. only 1 room key for 2 people
6. we didn’t have a table on our balcony
7. breakfast is not at the location (5 min walk away)
- Maisaa (8/5): Very good -
- Shannon (10/5): Fabulous! - Thank you so much to the Elia staff for an incredible stay. It could not have been more perfect and we so look forward to returning again!
- Claudio (9/5): fantastic position. recommended - very clean and comfortable. the personnel was extremely kind and available nn
- Aliki (10/5): Exceptional - Close to all amenities. Clean and good size. Lots of stairs.
- Yuval (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- Deanne (8/5): Comfortable and clean. But be aware that there are many steps to your room. Breakfast was lovely each day. Despina so fr - very clean and comfortable. Great location and staff very helpful. It was our fault, we should have checked the number of stairs to our room. Thank goodness we are fit at 71 and 65 to walk up and down 55 stairs. plus luggage. Also we should have received a message stating where to collect keycards
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- Ioannis (9/5): Superb - New renovated and comfortable room for 4 persons! The view wasn’t like the photos
- Elaine (9/5): Great location, very clean apartment. - It would have been easier to collect the keys at the apartment because the taxi can access the road making it easier for drop off and pick up, collecting keys at the Main Reception is not accessible by taxi The bathroom would benefit from additional shelfing, there was not enough room to keep toiletries in the bathroom. A few hooks for towels would also be good.
The lounge area would benefit from an additional wardrobe and a large set of drawers for clothes, there was very little hanging space in one wardrobe.
It would also be convenient to have a larger dining table, there is plenty of room in the apartment for a larger table, it is very difficult to make a meal because there is no workspace, so a larger table would help.
- Nike (10/5): Exceptional - All new, perfectly clean and cosy. The room smelled always really nice. You can also have tasty Great breakfast in the depandance near by. Highly recommend ! :) And many Thanks to the hotel stuff.
- Virve (8/5): Very good -
- Marcus (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were particularly fantastic.
- Cynthia (10/5): - The two bedroom and two bathroom rooms were perfect for my family of four. The upgraded bathrooms were nice as well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Apartment was well done and clean though slightly small for three people. The view was excellent. Communicating with staff was generally a bit difficult. They had very little information to give to us regarding sightseeing which was a bit disappointing.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - First off, check in was a disaster. Searching for the check in, while lugging suitcases for over an hour in the heat was not ideal- The area was pedestrian only, and parking outside of the pedestrian area was impossible to find. Because we couldn't find the check in area, we went straight to the hotel. It was locked, although we could see a reception area through the window. I finally reached someone by phone who said they would be right over to check us in. He arrived about 20 minutes later. He did say we could call to have help with the rest of our bags that were in the car, but we had parked so far away, that we didn't know when we would be going back that way to retrieve them.
Our room was ok, it was clean, and the bed was comfortable- the photos showed a wonderful harbor view, but in reality, the balcony overlooked the backs of some restaurants. The harbor was actually in front of the restaurants. We were also on the third floor, and the hotel hallways were not air-conditioned, so it was a hot climb up. My boyfriend and I are in somewhat good shape for mid 50's, but this would not have worked for someone who is not fit. There was supposed to be some items left in the room as complimentary, (I believe water and a few other things), but nothing was left in the room.
Overall, a big disappointment. I've been to Chania before, and we were assisted with parking, luggage, and had people on site. If I return, I will be staying elsewhere.
- Marquis (10/5): - The location and quality of the apartment are lovely. The apartment is in the heart of old town directly around the corner from the harbor. Management was polite and prompt when it came to check in. I’d stay there again.
- William (10/5): Best Suite in Chania! - Best Hotel room in Chania!!
- Peter (8/5): Spacious apartment, perfect location and view
- Great stay, well stocked apartment - perfect location for getting around old town. Please ensure you arrange to meet the staff to arrange for key card pick up in advance of your stay.
- Gerry (10/5): - this studio was really nice I had a balcony with a city view a king size bed and small kitchen but with all the restaurents
it was not necessary. Demetra was especially nice and helpful with and information need and check in was easy. the only thing to not with this unit is there are a lot of steps to the apartment but the have units in other buildings if that is a problem.
- Andre (4/5): Disappointing - We were initially put in flat 1 which was a lot smaller than photos in the listing. It had very bare furnishings, no bowls or kettle, a missing shower door and a plugin hob instead of a fixed cooking stove.
After being denied a refund from the hotel manager we were moved to flat 2 which was a lot more spacious and was pictured in the listing.
