Guest Reviews
- David (7/5): OK nothing more - Staff friendly excellent breakfast Shower ddnt work properly noise all the time from doors on rooms sticking in the frames when being shut as they had to be shut hard no iron facilities says sky channel but was just freeview and couldn't even get itv
- BRIAN VINCENT (8/5): -
- David (9/5): - All good. Nothing bad
- Lisa (10/5): Amazing welcome, breakfast and room size. Dog friendly - The evening meal was sensational. Huge portions. Great meal night offers, it was curry night on a Tuesday. Such good value as includes a wine or pint Only because I had the dog with me. I had a large case, dog bed, her food and bowls. I struggled with the fire doors and stairs, on my own.I realise it is a requirement for the doors, but holding a dog lead and my belongings, i had it closing on my body
- Louise (9/5): -
- Bagnall (10/5): - Great hotel Nothing
- Nicholas (4/5): We were booked in for two nights, but booked out after the first night. - Staff were helpful and friendly. Evening meal and continental breakfast were good. Drainage smell in the bathroom and very uncomfortable mattress.
- Helen (10/5): - Staff were friendly polite and helpful. Hotel room was beautiful and clean. The food here is exceptional
One of the best places we have stayed
- Iosif (10/5): -
- Alan (9/5): - Had an excellent lunch. Portion sizes very large
- woods (1/5): Unsatisfactory stay - The location is close to my family that live in derby that's why we chose the lawns. The stairs are very steep to get to your room, there's also a musty smell in the landing and room.
There was no space to get in and out of bed, the bed was very uncomfortable and neither myself or my husband got any sleep.
The shower was also terrible, struggled to get in and you can't turn it on till you get in which is either cold or too hot, so I couldn't enjoy the shower, I had to get out and wash my hair in the sink.
It was my nieces special birthday and we was so disappointed we couldn't stay for the second night ,we checked out a day early.
Hopefully we can be reimbursed for the night we didn't stay, we would be very grateful.
- Laura (10/5): Great stay with lovely food. - Great welcome on arrival, shown to our rooms, food was great in the evening and breakfast was nice too and they even catered for gluten free. Keys were difficult to get into the locks on the doors.
We booked two rooms and one was clearly more modern and renovated than the other and felt a little more comfortable and homely.
- Lance (9/5): Would definitely recommend - All staff was very friendly and inviting, felt welcome by all the minute you arrived to the minute you checked out, the door staff was extremely helpful and welcoming too. Rooms was clean and welcoming. Overall a lovely place to stay and would definitely use again if in the area Was no parking the night arrived but was not a real issue. Maybe make space for guest only but was nice to see an establishment thriving so again, not an issue.
Was not informed no chef on a Monday morning for breakfast but again, was not a real issue and they was extremely apologetic for it
- David (9/5): Quality for the right price - Nice hotel with parking and easy access Nothing
- noel (8/5): Very good Stay! - Very great location, and fresh continental breakfast
- Yasmin (8/5): - Very friendly staff, used restaurant for food and excellent portions Pillows too soft
- Paul (9/5): -
- Dave (6/5): Did what it said on the tin - Breakfast OK environment could have been better Bathroom was tired.
Fixed panel made access difficult and potentially dangerous for safe use
- Paul (9/5): - Good food, comfortable surroundings. I was there 3 weeks when suddenly the price shot through the roof, out of my budget
- Graham (8/5): - Small room
- Julie (8/5): - Staff and food were really lovely. Room was small and a bit tired. Was fine at this time of year but not in summer as window would be too small.
- Victoria (10/5): I enjoyed my stay. - The room was comfortable and clean. The lighting in the room was good. The staff were friendly.
- Paul (10/5): - Lovely comfortable rooms, spotless, the bar very good and the food was excellent. Nothing
- Paul (9/5): - Very comfy room, food in the bar excellent and very plentiful. Nothing
- Thomas (8/5): Sehr angenehm.
- Gillian (2/5): - Breakfast was very poor. Burnt toast and a rock hard croissant.
Only 1 plug socket in the room, which was very hard to reach.
- Daniel (10/5): - It is a quiet area with great personnel and a room that we needed for a one night stay.
- Ines (5/5): Passable, definitely not worth 100£/night - The staff was friendly and were able to help me when I needed wifi for a work meeting.
Breakfast is made for you at the time you arrive to the breakfast area. The room was quite small , which is not what I was expecting from the images. The cleanliness was actually quite poor as there was dust in multiple surfaces, the bathroom and one of the towels had some stains. The room was really hot for the two nights we were there, we had to open the windows to get some fresh air.
Included breakfast is only continental and not buffet - when you arrive they will go make the breakfast for you (coffee, juices, croissant, pain au chocolate and toast). From wednesday you have the choice of english breakfast, but you need to pay extra for that.
The wifi was really bad - I couldn't connect to it at all. Staff in reception was able to help me with this when I had a meeting.
- Craig (10/5): -
- Caroline (9/5): We were very pleased with all aspects of our stay and would be happy to stay again. - The staff were very good. Always helpful and considerate. N/A
- Trevor (8/5): I travel for business and always enjoy my stay at The Lawns and I will be back! - I have stayed at The Lawns before and the food is always excellent; I would recommend giving the steak a try, I always do, which is exceptional. They clearly have a cook that can cook! The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The guess WiFi connection in my room was not existent so I had to go to the reception area to ask for advice. The guy I spoke to knew what the problem was and gave me access to a protected connection which worked without a problem. This could do with sorting out.
- Julie (8/5): - Excellent breakfast. Friendly accommodating staff.
- Sheridan (9/5): -
- jane (10/5): - Our 3rd stay was amazing.
- Nichola (6/5): - breakfast excellent room tired and bed very uncomfortable
- Angela (9/5): Good value and very comfortable - Lovely welcoming and understanding staff when told about our recent bereavement as the reason for our stay.
Beautiful continental breakfast platter brought to the table
Puppy friendly Bathroom very cold until we found the heater
- Kuohsien (8/5): - Staffs are friendly. Breakfast is very good. It's frustrating that WiFi seems not working and the staff can't do anything about it.
- Louise (8/5): - Chosen as near to my friends house, friendly helpful staff, comfortable stay
- MICHAEL (7/5): - Rooms are dated with very squeaky floors
- Debra (9/5): Very enjoyable - Breakfast was good An extension lead is needed for the kettle, as you have to place it on the floor
- Paul (9/5): -
- Neil (7/5): -
- Dan (9/5): Lovely spot, - Lovely staff and great room. Carpet on the stairs was not attached securely and nearly sent me flying. Watch out!!
- Michael (8/5): - The English breakfast is off the charts.
Tasted the beef burger and it was very tasty. Room size.
- Warren (7/5): Good value - Location, food, value for money Sloppy bed
- Julie (10/5): Lovely hotel - Everthing went for a 80th birthday party staff so friendly from walking through the door nothing too much trouble lovely room
- Debbie (10/5): Excellent enjoyable stay over Christmas period - Easy location for visiting family. Hotel is very nice lovely rooms and bar area. Staff were very helpful and welcoming. Food was always lovely good menu large selection of beers and spirits No problems liked everything
- Kim (8/5): - The staff, the bar
- Isabel (6/5): - Staff, welcoming and pleasant Dated fittings, falling apart. Room smelt and needed some soundproofing.
- Byrne (6/5): Very small rooms in need of updating. Lovely staff. - The staff when checking us in and at breakfast time were so good. Welcoming and friendly. The continental breakfast was excellent. We couldn't eat it all. The room was absolutely tiny with extension leads everywhere. The bathroom left a lot to be desired, very much in need of some tlc.
- Pauline (2/5): - Coffee facilities in room.
Room clean.
Heating nice and warm.
Lots of plug sockets. Plastic pillow protectors but no flap in pillow cases to hold pillow in so kept having head on plastic as slipped out case.
Very hard mattress.
Bath was extremley difficult to access due to static shower screen and position of toilet.
Bath plug very difficult to remove and bath taps got stuck.
Property did say they would address these issues.
Room not cleaned and made up one day.
- wendy (7/5): - Indian restaurant close by. Hotel situated in a lovely little village. Scratchy bed linen.p
- Inga (8/5): Nice pub. - The food was very good. Even continental breakfasts were nice selections. Big car park. The room is too small for 2 people.
- Jenkins (10/5): We always stay here, staff friendly and helpful . Rooms warm and comfortable - It’s convenient to where we need to be N/A
- Patricia Lesley (8/5): It served our purpose - Room was clean and tidy
Breakfast was good Would have liked somewhere to hang our coats
- Helen (7/5): - Basic hotel but clean and tidy
- Stacey (7/5): Fine - Good location Needs maintenance. Noisy
- Chris (7/5): -
- Julie (9/5): - Excellent breakfast and pub food. Very welcoming, friendly staff.
- Joanne (9/5): Lovely quiet nice bar underneath room nice breakfast - Nice area nice room everything you need Pity there’s no plug near the mirror when you do your hair also no we’re really for kettle except bedside cabinet an there was no room 🥴
- Michael (5/5): -
- Lucja (7/5): Compact but comfortable room - bring an extension lead if you want to use the hairdryer - Comfortable room, friendly staff No plug points near the mirror so drying hair was an interesting challenge
- Lee (7/5): Had a really good time bar and food was really nice, staff friendly made stay welcome , and slept well so overall really - The bar , was good atmosphere and staff really friendly. Room looked like needed a a revamp looked abit worn in places.
- Glyn (10/5): - Always good here because of the excellent staff
- Rosemary (4/5): - The location was good for where we needed to go. The staff were very friendly. The room was shabby and the basin hot tap didn't work properly. The water was too hot and it was stiff because the taps dripped. There was no plug.
- Adeel Family (4/5): Not a great experience. I would prefer to pay few quids extra & stay in Travel lodge or Premier Inn - The staff were good and understanding. Pub/Bar, it was noisy and populated, especially over the weekend. Not suitable for families. Thank God there was a separate entry for the hotel guests, otherwise I would seriously regret. No Buffett-type breakfast. Simple eggs and bread with tea. If you want an uplift, you have to pay. Not worth the money you paid.
- Peter (4/5): Won't go again - Room was not luxury. Kettle had to be plugged in on floor. Furniture old. Closet had cheap hangers and open shelves for a bit of storage. The ensuite was poorly designed with limited access and small basin. The description on Booking.com is misleading.
- Dennis (8/5): - The staff were lovely, and the evening meal and breakfast were excellent The room was on the small size , but adequate, and unfortunately, I was above the bar , which made an early night very difficult after travelling.
- Emine Ece (8/5): - Amazing staff
- Berfin (7/5): -
- Frederick (8/5): -
- Julie (10/5): I had a lovely time, all staff were very friendly, the hotel was nice & clean, the room was lovely, Thanku - Friendly Staff, Hotel was clean & tidy, breakfast was exceptional Noise from those leaving the pub
- tiffany (10/5): Very nice place, loved it, quiet and affordable - Very cosy and comfortable room we was there when they had curry night and it was lovely, friendly staff and helpful, definitely would stay again.
Breakfast was really good also we had the continental included with the room and more than enough there. Couldn’t eat it all Nothing
- Ian-Bailey (10/5): Great food, staff, atmosphere and breakfast!! - English breakfast was amazing.
Room was clean and quiet.
Bar was warm and welcoming.
Staff were brilliant.
Recommend staying here.
- Ali (4/5): - Location The room, bed, and shower and the odor inside.
- Christine (6/5): - The staff were very helpful even helpimg putting the radiator on..but it was a little dated and tired. The mattress with uneven springs(?) Bathroom no window and cracked sink...with warnings that leaving tge door open would set off the alarm! Wifi intermittent so no good if you need to work. Bathroom cracked sink
Wifi intermitent
Matteress tired
- Mark (9/5): - Good breakfast, quiet rooms, good location and staff very helpful
- Paul (10/5): -
- Stacey (7/5): -
- Lee (6/5): Poor service - Good choice of beers. Bedroom great and parking We ordered a breakfast but never received it when we ask how long would it be after 30 minutes of waiting we was told they had forgotten but they could get us some toast so we paid to stay with breakfast included and received none . The poor service let the hotel down
- JOHN (8/5): -
- Chris (7/5): -
- Billy (8/5): Very pleasant - Everything nice about the place Just didn’t like the bedding.
- Diane (7/5): - Good continental breakfast. Live music until 1130pm.
Very soft mattress
- John (8/5): -
- Pritchard (9/5): -
- Russell (7/5): - Paid £65 for the night with breakfast included so great value for money. Ample parking to the rear. Room was small but adequate. Good location for East Midlands airport Room was a little small along with bathroom but it was fine for us for 1 night. Room doors need a bit of attention and needed a good slam to close which does create unwanted noise for others
- Denzil (10/5): - The hotel is in South Derby convenient for the A52 and about 3 miles to the city centre. Free Parking is on site and is locked overnight. There is a Lidel and Tesco within 200m of the hotel. Checkin was prompt and we were allocated a room at the back as requested which was quiet. The room was quite tight with little storage space no desk, limited surfaces to put anything ,with a double bed that was comfortable enough. The bathroom was bit more spacious but in need of updating. A good sized continental breakfast in the morning with hot croissants, toast and fresh coffee; cooked breakfast was available but as an extra charge.
In our opinion this is good 2 Star hotel.
- KIMBERLY (10/5): -
- Nick (7/5): Nice stop off for a weekend in Derbyshire - Nice hotel, friendly staff and was quiet, even with busy pub below. We did not find the bed very comfortable unfortunately, and the bathroom was very small.
- Jamie (5/5): Not good - Not much Bigger tv need as too small looked out of place
Shower was not good kept going hot and cold the pressure on the shower not good either got woken up early hours people coming in very noisy late at night the room needs updating the furniture is dated like the room not much wardrobe space
We wasnt impressed at all the pub was ok
- Jo Anne Page (10/5): A gem.... and Elinor the bar staff was so lovely at breakfast time. Very helpful and pleasant. - Elinor s hospitality!!
Rooms clean and comfortable!! The carparking system is crazy, we'd travelled from Ireland, so didn't realise you d be fined for parkingn n the Lawns Hotel. ( Even if you were a guest of the hotel). The young worker never told us to give in our reg number when we arrived. And we received a fine a week later. However, Elinor , the day we left was most reassuring and explained to link in with her if we were fined, and Nathaniel corresponded promptly, and reassured us the matter was sorted out. I must remark the staff are very helpful and understanding.
We definitely are staying in the Lawns, on our next stay in Chellaston.
If I was to remark on any issues thst would make the experience better ... the coffee cups that they served us were teeny tiny , Nothing as nice as a decent sized cup . But that's just being picky.
Overall, a nice little hotel.
- Simon (10/5): Superb staff, great food, great beer and a comfortable room. - Perfect for what I needed.
- Alan (8/5): Nice Stop Over - Great Stop over for BSB at Donington Park. Lovely staff and pleasant. Food is good and service is good.
- Amanda (5/5): Ok stay.busy pub atmosphere - Pleasant and friendly staff on check in. The room was a good size and had useful usb plugs too. Could do with a deep clean. The continental breakfast was bruised fruit, 2 choices of yogurt, cereals and toast and pastries on request. Very limited so you have to pay if you want anything cooked.
- Julie (9/5): - Breakfast was excellent. Evening food was excellent, we ate both evenings. The second evening we invited friends over to eat with us.
Accommodation was choosen to enable me to attend a conference in Derby centre. Write up said that the hotel was 12 minutes away and it was - perfect. Floor boards creeked :)
- Helen (7/5): - Great location for us
Exceptionally friendly staff and helpful
Comfortable bed
Food great Bit tired but suited us for one night stay
- Laura (7/5): Comfortable - Comfy bed Room must have been above the kitchen as it smelt of fried food. The bathroom extractor fan was very dusty but this was rectified during our stay.
- wilfred (4/5): Could do better - Location was good Very small rooms. Needs upgrading
- Bagnall (10/5): - Great hotel brilliant staff lovely food top class will be back Nothing
