Guest Reviews
- William (7/5): It's not for everyone, but if you can vibe with a funky old Asian style 2-star hotel, it's great - Chinese owned hotel, old building, located in the middle of downtown Berkeley walkable for tons of food - Trader Joes, Shake Shack, McD, burgers, Thai, Greek, even Burmese -- Berkeley (and SF by extension) has amazing variety of authentic international food options of very good quality. Room had refrigerator/freezer, microwave and coffee maker. Next door was the Nash Chinese restaurant, open late. Soap, shampoo and drinking water were provided free. Iron and ironing board in the room. Staff was helpful. Two beat up working pianos in lobby. Very close to Downtown Berkeley BART station. Kinda musty overall. Many rooms have bathroom down the hall (a cheaper option). No A/C. Drink machine had warm sodas. A couple homeless folks on the sidewalk outside (non aggressive). King mattress I had seemed a bit worn out.
- Enrique (3/5): Un hotel bien situado, pero anticuado, sucio y caro - Lo mejor, la ubicación céntrica, y el tamaño de la habitación. Varias cosas me disgustaron:
- Michael (2/5): Hard to sleep hearing other guests - Location Electrical plugs are fire hazard and you can hear conversations from other rooms.
- John (8/5): -
- Sinan (1/5): - went to the hotel, but it was really bad, so I had to leave. And they didn’t refund my money. went to the hotel, but it was really bad, so I had to leave. And they didn’t refund my money.
- Vega (1/5): Never go back there - No ac , no ceiling fan , small room , Ac on summer , no parking, too expensive

- MIRNA (5/5): - Staff is friendly and helpful Our sheets were stain and dirty.
- Daniel (9/5): Very home like. - Th staff was very accommodating.
- Eanad (10/5): In the center of everything and so affordable! - Everyone was so nice, friendly and helpful!
- Kosei (10/5): -
- Eveline (6/5): -
- Maxime (7/5): - The room was very nice and comfortable and the lobby/other areas were quaint. The shower doesn't really work and barely produces water.
- Cezary (2/5): Very dodgy and completely substandard. - The only thing this hotel has going for it is proximity to Berkeley for events like Cal day. The hotel is old, dirty, the windows don’t close, street sounds don’t let you sleep. I felt like I left with hepatitis. The covers were dirty. The tv didn’t work, curtains were ripped and barely covered the windows. This is a type of hotel one rents by the hour.

- Masahiko (3/5): 非常に悪い - お風呂が汚くて、シャワーの出が悪い。
- Paul (4/5): Decent price, but did not enjoy the bathroom situation - The price I did not know the bathroom and shower were in the hallway and shared. The sink in the room was also barely functional
- Reg Bowie (4/5): - Near venues Shared bathroom and shower also toilet was backed up with poop

- Avalos (5/5): - Perfect for 1 or 2 night stays. Central area close to Bart, Telegraph, and other things. While the room had a small area with a sink and mirror each floor has a shared bathroom and shower. This doesn't bother me especially in these older buildings in the bay area but I don't remember it stating that on the web site.

- Guest (8/5): 入住感受还可以 - 这个价位,应该含早餐
- wei (2/5): - hard for parking.
- Guest (3/5): - The staff was nice, and I had no problem with the free wifi. It is very close to everything if you are there for a university-related event. Good public transit access if that is what you are using to get around. Lots of good food options immediately nearby. It was affordable, but the price matched the quality. You get what you pay for. It was a very run-down place. It was not very clear from the booking listing that the room would not have its own toilet or shower; there was one shared toilet and one shared shower per floor, which is fine if you know that is what you are getting when you book the place, but, like I said, it was not clearly stated when I booked. Also, the shower was very, very small, and it was gross; missing grout and generally looked dirty. I put one of the hand towels (provided in my room) down on the shower floor because I didn't want to stand on it with my bare feet. The room was very dated and there were these nasty stained curtains to cover the window, which made the place feel beat up and run-down when it otherwise would have just looked outdated and basic.
- champion (8/5): - The building was safe The beds
- Irena (4/5): Sometimes you truly get what you pay for. - The bed was actually comfortable. Wanted to start in a positive note. First night we could not sleep at all because the room smelled. Smelled so badly that we still were aware of the bad smell in the middle of the night. It did air out by next night. Not sure why they did not foresee this problem. Very thin walls. Very run down. Very good price. Will pay more next time to stay anywhere else. We paid extra for a bathroom in our room did not realize that’s a luxury
- Kathleen (8/5): - Room was clean. Staff was helpful. Parking was hard. Lots of places to eat near by.
- Robert (10/5): - This is great older hotel with character. If you desire sterile chain hotel a 2x the price they are available. I've stayed here 2 times and will go back.
- Daniel (2/5): - Do not stay here. The rooms are dirty and the staff is rude. There were lots of bugs, a blood stain on the comforter, the sheets smelled, and overall the property was unkempt.
- Linda (8/5): - Clean room
- Guest (5/5): - La relación calidad - precio es adecuada. Ante alguna necesidad, la atención fue rápida
- Tatyana (6/5): - The area is in great location and close to everything. Parking is a huge issue. Property and rooms are in poor and outdated condition. Everything is old, falling apart, towels and bed sheets were dirty with yellow spots, discussing. I would never stay at this hotel again.
- Xie (5/5): -
- Guest (1/5): decided to leave one day early, gave otice, manager said ik, overruled. Will dispute the bill. - nothing no private bath, no air conditioning, no parking, not even a loading zone in front of the hotel.
- Melissa (2/5): - The hotel was probably nice 100 years ago. Today, it is very run-down. It smells very old, has flies, the mattress was moldy, no mattress pad, polyester sheets, no air conditioning, issues with fixtures, squeaky bed, shared bathroom, no hair dryer, one pillow per person, broken toilet paper dispenser, etc. If it were priced like a youth hostel, some of this would be forgiven. No parking and no pets allowed. The towels were nice, and there's a great coffee place nearby. The area is both sketchy and amazing - it's downtown Berkeley.
- Tristan (10/5): - Hotel Nash is a budget hotel, so don't go in expecting anything other than the basics. But if you want to see Berkeley, it's clean, comfortable, and has a fantastic location in the downtown next to campus. I feel I got my money's worth.
- Kelly (2/5): I would not recommend this place, ever, to anyone. - It was relatively clean. Thin walls and extremely noisy. People were up talking loudly all night long and we didn't get any sleep. We are a couple and we booked a King, but they gave us two single beds, which were hard, small, and very uncomfortable. We didn't want to go back and ask for the right bed because the person at the front desk was miserable and acted as if it was a huge inconvenience to have to check us in. I would never go back there.

- Daiki (7/5): -
- Alex (10/5): - Nice little hotel.
- Rachel (8/5): -
- Gunel (5/5): -
- Adam (7/5): Good - It was a very nice place and it reminded me of hostels I've been too before. I like how it had a cafe and 24 hour access. The way the bathrooms are in the hallway reminds me of my stay in New York.
- Kelvin (8/5): Very good -
- Ivan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Magaly (8/5): Very good - Great service good rooms Shared bathroom but its okay bc I payed less
- Gary (4/5): - The place is a dump! The neighborhood is worst! The people at the restaurant and the front desk were very nice.
- ann (6/5): - The hotel is very old & sockets were unreliable. No AC but they did supply a small fan. Parking was awful. The hotel does not provide any & Berkeley is extremely busy all the time. It was difficult to find a parking spot.
Towels were spotless and a good supply was provided. This hotel is close walking distance from Berkeley University.
- James (6/5): Pleasant - The hotel is very 1920's. You could imagine F. Scott Fitzgerald staying there. Room was small but very clean.
- Naomi (6/5): - Room was a lot smaller than what it looked like.
- Reynolds (3/5): I was uncomfortable from the minute. I walked in to the minute I left. - Location Everything else. Noisy (all hardwood floors), thin walls. Basically a hostel.
- Jessica (9/5): Superb -
- Jorge (9/5): Superb - The place look very antique and awesome No parking.
- Jennifer (8/5): - Thankyou! Great stay
- Mark (10/5): Decent rates, clean, great staff. - We always stay at the Nash when attending a live show at the UC Theatre Berkeley. I would highly recommend for proximity to the venue and the staff is very helpful. Good little Chinese restaurant in the hotel as well. Nothing.
- Anthony (6/5): - I was originally going to SF with my wife, but that fell through, so I ended up going solo-- I booked a room at the Nash since I was going to a concert at the UC theater across the street. They have shared bathrooms on each floor. I knew what I was getting into and figured I could rough it a couple of days without showering---I just had to share a toilet---but a couple of times, the commode was backed up. This means, either the plumbing is bad--or it just shows how many savages there are in our society and these people don't know how to use a toilet like a grown up. I feel sorry for the facility staff that have to clean up after these animals on a daily basis. other than that...the room was clean, the bed wasn't the most comfortable, but I slept. Def wouldn't be here if my wife went came along....but, I would if go to another show by myself.
- Jennifer (6/5): Feeling like I'm in a cheap Paris hotel - Hotel Nash was a *bit* of a surprise. While the service was very helpful and kind, it's definitely not a typical American hotel.
When we arrived, we had to ring the doorbell to be let in, and walked through a restaurant to get to the elevator. The hotel in general is quite old, and although they have made efforts to keep it clean, it just has a dilapidated feeling to it - there was a blocked window in our bathroom that did not close and leaked cold air, there was chipping paint in the bathtub, exposed wiring, etc. The room even lacked bedside outlets to charge our phones overnight and only one side of the bed had a nightstand. Most concerning was that when we entered the room, windows had been left ajar that opened to a fire escape - we could have walked in to someone lying in wait - as a woman traveling with her young daughter, I consider this a safety issue.
Our room was next to a room full of young adults who were loud/partying late into the night - didn't even try to take action, as I saw a sign at the front desk giving a phone number to call if you needed anything at night. If no one is on-site, why would I wake someone else up to help?
- Kathleen (10/5): Amazing spot in the heart of Berkeley - The location was perfect and I liked the safety of the building. Our room was clean and comfy and I appreciated the fridge and microwave. Friendly staff and good value. Parking was tricky and only 2 hour until 6
- Ali (1/5): Bad - There were cockroaches. Beware
- Kamal (1/5): NO! No! No! - Omg. I thought im in Madagascar. Think again and again before ur visit
- Km (6/5): Pleasant -
- Cyrus (7/5): Good -
- Yanlong (7/5): Good -
- Lee (4/5): Disappointing - The place has a strange smell, there were hairs on my sheets and in the shower, and there was a guy staying on my floor who was talking to himself very loudly all night. I ended up leaving early because I couldn't sleep there. The owner knew this guy was staying there, but when I complained in the morning after one of the nights he really made a lot of noise, the owner said I should've called reception or the police. I didn't think anyone would be at the reception at 3 AM.
- Brajesh (6/5): - The room seemed average. Service is non-existent.
- Daniel (4/5): - A mouse came into my room one night, I found it dead in the hallway the next morning.
- Jacob (6/5): Pleasant -
- Saira (9/5): Efficient convenient cost affordable - Location
- Valenzuela (6/5): Pleasant - The location, And the room was big and comfortable All the trash they have on the entrance to the hotel, expensive for the quality
- Hong (6/5): Pleasant -
- Antjuan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robb (4/5): - DIRTY SHOWERS, WIRES EVERYWHERE, COLD, SMALL, NOT EVEN WORTH THE $112.00 I PAID FOR IT....
- Jim (7/5): Modest hotel with character very close the campus - Clean and comfortable. If you are looking for a low cost place very near to UC Berkeley this is a good option. TV reception & channel selection is limited.
- Mary Lydia (4/5): - The front door was locked when we arrived. No one on duty. We entered thru a restaurant and waited for staff to arrive to check in.
- Elizabeth (4/5): - It’s not worth the money had no working shower and had to move my car several times due to no parking available
- Helal (4/5): Great location. Although disappointing in some aspects, we got what we wanted from this spot, ts - Its location was fantastic. It has an old style to it. The hotel has vending machines with drinks and snacks - also a restaurant. Cramped, shared bathroom, no wardrobe or closet or hanger to hang our things on.
- Joseph (2/5): - There was constant banging around from the floor above and the room was not that clean. Crap still on the toilet seat.
- András (7/5): Good - The location is quite central. It is a hotel that has seen better days, the smell wasn't that great.
- Gloria (10/5): - Very gracious. Allowed me to check in very early.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room smelled odd that it gave me a sore throat whenever I was in it. Also, the sheets were so massive that they just got tangled on the bed.
- Paul (2/5): - We paid $184 plus tax per night for a basic room with no cable TV, no working telephone, too-soft beds and uncomfortable pillows, no private parking, no full ironing board, windows that would not stay open nor would they lock at night, I couldn’t on but it’s not worth it. We’re now staying in a hotel a couple of blocks away, in a suite for $183 plus tax per night! So, a dollar less for a bigger hotel room!
- Paula (4/5): Why is this place on Hotels.com? - The room was pretty clean except for the dust on top of the picture frame. The neighborhood was dreadful; garbage all over the sidewalks. Room was noisy; door did not fit well, mattress was very soft. This place is extremely dated and in very poor condition. We went to Berkeley for family weekend and this was the only place available; now I completely understand why. I am shocked that this establishment is affiliated with Hotels.com. I seriously have to question their properties now.
- Roger (10/5): Can`t control the thermostat & only opening the window lets in air, temperature. - Not attend. Refrigerator pump kept going like a rooster.
- Joseph (8/5): - No heat, but clerk brought a portable fan heater. Not much sports on TV, no ESPN. Nice room for the price. Make sure you book a private bath!
- Su (5/5): Passable -
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I enjoyed my stay although a little bit much for a small room, tv would not work half the time. Bathroom is not included with room unless “upgraded”. Staff were nice and friendly. Food options nearby, it can be a little noisy, the beds were nice and clean and very comfy.
- Wynona (8/5): Very good -
- Elias (7/5): Good - No explanation about is old hotel! That info is very valuable.
- Randall (10/5): - This ex-hostel was a good place to stay on a non-busy weekend. Shared shower with about 10 other rooms. Most were vacant which made it nice for us. Staff was very friendly.
- Samuel (8/5): - Great customer service and flexibility
- eric (2/5): - Unclean areas, outdated, front door lock not secure, no A/C, uncomfortable bed, shared restroom not a good idea (shower too small), refrigerator doesn't work properly.
- Chris (4/5): - The beds were old and uncomfortable. The furniture was old and tired. The was a bunch of lint in the screen in the bathroom, we were located above the laundry. There was some kind of water leak in the bathroom. Building was very old.
