Guest Reviews
- Ariane (9/5): Superb - Little garden, nice rooms, we were able to stow our luggage on the day of our leaving & check pit was possible until 12! Mosqitoes, so better bring some spray!
- Cynthia (10/5): Exceptional - The size of the room was good, it was clean and comfortable Location was good, close to the train station and there's was even a vaporetto station close by.
- Cremezi (9/5): Charming and well located hotel with a welcoming and helpful team! - The position was perfect: not too far from the heart of Venice but far enough to be quiet. The boat gate (Guglie) is at one min walking distance which was jus perfect. Various restaurants around. And cherry on the cake the hotel is located in a mosaic fabric with a lovely garden and collective terraces.
Valentina was welcoming and so helpful with all the great and precise information. Much appreciated! I would recommand to improve the breakfast but this is a detail.
- Larissa (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was great, and we were completely satisfied with our stay. One small suggestion, though – we personally like to use slippers in the room, and that was the only thing we slightly missed
- Jun (7/5): Good place to stay - Clean. Good size bedroom and bathroom. Quiet, away from touristy area, but within 15min walk to station and 2 min from water boat station. Lack of plug sockets in the bedroom - there was only 1 by the door.
- Darrell (5/5): A short but pleasant stay - Location. There was little noise and the staff we met were pleasant. We also had to obtain an adapter from the cleaner to recharge our phones into the room as the usual european adapters we had did not fit. Cafes and restaurants are close by and the railway station within a 15 minute walking distance. Upon arrival at the airport we were contacted by the owner who was unable to meet us at the property due to a strike which impacted on transport. There is no reception at this property and when we reached the property we had to phone the owner for help in gaining access. Our understanding was that the design of each room is different with unique fittings. However, our room facilities did not seem to match some of the description provided. There was no TV (as we were told there is no signal) and the shower was within our bath and only attached to the bath tap without any screens or curtain and had to be hand held. This sprayed water everywhere! Nevertheless, the rooms were clean and the bed comfortable.
- Yassine (9/5): Superb -
- Nona (10/5): Exceptional - It was a great building, a big room, a clean room and bathroom, a great welcome from a really nice lady. It was quiet and with a big terrace. The pictures do not justify how good the place is.
- Graca (10/5): Wonderful! - Love everything: location, beautiful room with patios and terrace in a garden and our hostess Valentina was very pleasant and helpful ,a great hostess!
- Bagirli (7/5): Good -
- Richard (8/5): Really enjoyed staying in this beautiful room - Location, comfortable bed, interesting artefacts and mosaics No coffee/tea facilities in the room
- Wendy (10/5): Beautiful room, would stay here again! - Gorgeous property, beautiful location, not in the main tourist hub so the neighborhood is nice and quiet but it's close enough to walk or take a vaporetto (water bus) to all the sights. We roamed all over Venice, Murano, Burano, and thought this was the best home base possible. There's a stop for public transit just a couple minutes down the street. Easy check-in, Valentina was very kind and helpful, we were able to leave our luggage inside after check-out as our flight wasn't until later in the day. There was the possibility of breakfast with an additional charge in advance but we didn't try it. Great room in all respects, super AC, worked perfectly in the hottest time of year. Small but very clean bathroom. We looked forward to returning to our room for a nap out of the summer heat every afternoon :)
I think there are only five or six rooms in the whole property so you will want to book your stay in advance. Super communication from Valentina through this website. I do a lot of research when picking a place to stay and saw a few previous reviews commenting on negatives, but I really couldn't find a single thing wrong with our room.
Wirklich fantastisches Hotel!
Note: The different rooms available could be clearer on booking.com. It's not obvious to viewers which is which. But this is purely a matter of the listing, not the property itself, which was fantastic.
- Charlotte (6/5): Average - The location is great and the host is very friendly. The rooms are large and comfortable, we had a view of the courtyard which was lovely. It's pretty quiet during the night. The foyer is nicer than the rooms themselves, for us we thought it was too expensive for what it is. The rooms look nicer in the photos than the reality. I would say it's average. Also after our room was cleaned each day the whole room stunk of cigarettes and we would have to open all the windows to eliminate the smell. That was quite disappointing.
- Ira (8/5): Very good - The location was perfect, 50 miters from the boat station
- Yusufcan (10/5): GEM of Venice - It is located a little outside of touristic area, which is indeed very good. This makes it very attractive. Quite and clam.
- Tennant (8/5): Very good -
- Hasan (9/5): Superb - location is good. it was clean and nice. I highly recommend they put a Turkish style toilet with a bidet.
- Stephanie (8/5): Very good - The room was basic but very clean and comfortable. It had air con, and was a great size with a large, clean bathroom. The location was perfect - the local bars and restaurants were amazing and it felt a nice distance from the 'touristy' parts. They also allowed us to leave our luggage there after checking out on our last day. As we stayed over the weekend, it felt very expensive for what it was.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Franglais (8/5): Brilliant quiet hotel with fantastic mosaic around you. - The hotel is a distance away from St Marco so if you don't want to walk a long way at the end of the day you better take a boat home. We did not realised that they are the only glass factory on the main island but unfortunately it was impossible to go round as they only have tours on first and third Wednesday of the month and they are fully booked until July. They are quite a lot of little eateries nearby. If you don't want to have breakfast at the hotel, they are plenty coffee/bar nearby.
The room is simple with lovely example of their mosaic, a shower room and a walk-in wardrobe. They are only a handful of bedrooms. The shower cubicle in our room was quite small. There is space for a large one.
- Klaus (9/5): very nice place with very nice stuff, thanks to mrs.Valentina -
- Clarisse (9/5): Superb -
- Xin (9/5): Super! - The room is large and well-equipped. The location is convenient. Interior decoration is classy.
- Grazyna (10/5): Exceptional - The location was very good, everywere was close . The staff was very nice , helpful . I like everyrhing
- Hoi (2/5): Very poor - There were insects in the room that bit us during the night. My friends and I together have about 100 bites on our bodies after the trip. Contacted the owner and asked to be moved to another room or provide us with a steamer (in case it was bed bug). The owner was not very helpful by simply responding that she didn't have N extra room and she couldn't bring us the steamer. Would not recommend this place.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - Nice hotel There was an extreme amount of moskitoes in our room and no nets in the windows. We were bitten a lot both mornings we stayed there
- Kathryna (8/5): The place was lovely and host was very helpful. - Valentina was very helpful and accommodating for our late check in. She gave us very detailed instructions on how to get there and open. It has a lovely courtyard and the interior had lots of character. We thought we would get a different room than the one we did.
- Ann (9/5): Central location - Clean, comfortable and central to places of interest.
- Newton (9/5): It was not a 10 because... - Big and quiet room, very clean; the black out and the anti noise window works really fine. The installation is very beautiful and close to the train station. Lovely place to stay. They asked me to pay a city tax value 3X times higher than the value that was on the advertisement and was on my reservation. I thought that was very unfair and inelegant especially because the staff person tried to impose it in a very unpolished way.
After a 5 minute telefone talk with the main host then she finally said I was correct if I paid the value that was pointed on my reservation. That was what I did but the situation was very uncomfortable.
They should put a door on the bathroom stall because it's open the way it is, it makes a lot of mess and you have to dry it afterwards.
- Rohit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marina (10/5): Our room was big and luxurious with garden view - We prefer to have breakfast with different varieties with the locals. The location is excellent ,many restaurants are nearby ,the transportation is very good especially for the airport
- Judith (10/5): Amazing top-value mosaic-decorated little palazzo - Great value and location. Wonderful mosaics in the house (as you'd expect from Orsoni). Really friendly and accommodating staff, though not intrusive (nb no staff present in the evening and it's worth trying some basic Italian as not all staff speak English).
The accommodation is often filled by visitors doing the Orsoni mosaic courses, but not when I visited. Very close to bars/restaurants and shops, though there's also a small fridge in the room. A lively residential neighbourhood - not too touristy, but within walking distance of all the main sights/sites. Shower more like a wet room so floors get wet. Warning: Floors are all terrazzo - so take slippers/socks as they can be cold underfoot.
- Aliya (9/5): Superb - Very convenient location close to the train station. The room was clean and very big. Comfortable beds and all required facilities. We didn't order breakfast, but there are many places around where you can find whatever you prefer for breakfast. There is nothing we didn't like. Everything was as per expectations.
- Mirinave (9/5): Thank you. I really enjoyed my stay in such a nice touched with art hotel - Breakfast could be better N/a
- Adi (8/5): Recommend, special place. - Beautiful design of the room and the area, the staff was nice and kind, the room was clean, we didn't hear the other guests. The floor was shaking due to the wooden building, around 15 mosquitoes, two lights out of six didn't work in the bathroom.
- Rochelle (9/5): Superb -
- Zoe (8/5): Nice Pleasant Stay - Very comfortable and a nice quiet room. We were given the choice of 2 rooms. Liked the fact the windows had shutters so was dark in the morning. Host Pleasant and had given us good instructions on how to arrive.
- Kevin (5/5): Great staff and good location - Location and staff the room was a good size with outdoor terrace but needs small bit of updating. Was dated and no coffee facilities in room.
- John (8/5): Very good bang-for-buck accommodation in mainland Venice! - The room was shockingly spacious for an accommodation in Venice. It was also sparkly clean; there was someone who tidied up the room after 2 days and swapped out our towels with fresh ones.
Moreover, its location is amazing as it is a mere 3-5 minute walk from a vaporetto (water bus) stop! This proved to be handy as Guglie, the name of the nearest water bus stop to Domus Orsoni, is one of the very few terminals which water buses from the airport stop at. As such, shuttling back and forth between stops within mainland Venice, the other Venetian islands like Murano and Burano, and the Marco Polo airport proved to be very easy and convenient.
To top it all off, Valentina, the main host, was responsive and accommodating. She answered our questions a few hours after we posed them and made sure that one of her colleagues welcomed us to our room when we checked in outside of their usual check-in times.
All things considered, we had a very pleasant stay in Domus Orsoni and would not hesitate to book it again should we find ourselves in Venice in the future. The only nitpick we have with the room we were given was that it felt quite stuffy and warm in the evenings. If the ventilation in the room is improved and addressed, this accommodation will undoubtedly deserve a perfect 10/10.
- Nicky (10/5): Had a fabulous time in Venice and Valentina was a lovely host - The location and authenticity
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sergiy (8/5): in general good apprtment - Breakfast is so-so. The rest is perfect
- Rami (10/5): A delightful place that will give you a local experience and efficiency of transportation - Excellent location near the train station, at the same time very quiet and in a neighborhood that gives you a Venice local experience. The property is very conveniently close to the boat station. Valentina hosted us with utmost kindness and efficiency. The room is very large and the bathroom a delight. This was a really very pleasant experience. Definitely recommendable. Not to stay longer
- Marii (10/5): Exceptional - We had amazing room, very nice host- helped with everything, nice location, definately recommend!
- Maddison (9/5): We enjoyed our stay. - Very clean, great location.
- Youming (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amir (9/5): Excellent value for the price - The apartment is in an excellent location, well equipped and the design is beautiful. A central but very quiet place. It would be nice if there was a kettle in the room
- Petri (10/5): Charming like Venice it self - Personal and beautiful, a lot of charm I liked it all
- Kellie (10/5): Thank you for a wonderful stay in Venice - Wonderful place to stay. Beautiful glass mosaics throughout the property. Lovely staff, very clean and comfortable. Good sized room and everything well maintained. Loved the area. Quieter than the tourist areas of Venice but easy access to water taxis and walking distance to everything. Loved our stay at Domus Orsoni. Nothing
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (9/5): perfect! - Close to train station.
Plenty of bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk.
Huge bedroom with balcony.
Cleaned every day.
Woke up 1st morning to table set for breakfast on veranda which was such a nice surprise. Nothing
- Marc17seifert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kim (8/5): Very good - location quiet & classy terrible wifi
- Lap (10/5): I love their bathroom and I still miss the showe! - The bathroom and the shower!! I still miss it Location is a bit far away of tourist attractions point
- Marcin (10/5): Would recommend. - Close to everywhere. Nice, clean rooms with beautiful glass finish from factory nearby. You can even leave baggage for later departure.
- Tracey (10/5): Very pleased. - Excellent location: ferry stop right on the doorstep with direct connections to the San Marco area, airport, and murano.
Clean comfortable non smoking rooms with good air-conditioning and very spacious. Beautiful common areas with unusual and vivid mosaics.
Valentina was very flexible and communicative and made our stay seamless.
- Anna (9/5): Great value for money - Spacious room, clean and tidy. Garden area looked a little tired.
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Darya (9/5): A nice hotel with great atmosphere - Very nice host and room. Perfect location for us: not noisy, but walkable to most of the attractions. The room was cleaned every day. The hotel is beautiful, and we liked the atmosphere of the place very much. It was also nice, that the hotel is not in the center of the tourist area, and there are lots of cafes and restaurants where locals go, which means high ratings and tasty food. Another thing that it was quite in the hotel and near it, we slept like babies. :) We really enjoyed our stay, and recommend this place!
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacek_1922 (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect. Localization, 15 minutes on foot to Piazza San Marco, clean, large room, very nice service, comfortable bed, friendly atmosphere and professionalism.
- Jonathan (10/5): Big beautiful room on quiet side street. - Beautiful hotel filled with mosaic artwork. Our room was very spacious with King sized bed and the bathroom with gold mosaic tiles was stunning. The host, Valentina helped us with our luggage and let me leave my snowboard bag downstairs. Hotel is on very quiet side street about 10min walk from station. There are some good bars/restaurants/cafe a few minutes walk (I recommend Pontini). Bathroom also had a big bathtub.
- Pax (10/5): Exceptional - Very kind staff and comfortable room, value for money in Venice. Nice decoration too.
- Oi (8/5): Very good - love the mosaics art pieces around the room until downstairs. it’s so beautiful wil definitely come back for my next visit
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Izabela (9/5): Lovely hotel - Very quiet location away from the busy tourist centre but still close to many good restaurants and train station. The vaporetto stop is very close too so you can easily get to the centre of Venice by boat if you don’t feel like waking and it’s also a nice experience! Valentina was lovely and gave us a warm welcome on our arrival which made us feel like visiting a good friend ☺️ Nothing
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harold (10/5): Great location for exploring Venice from. - Domus Orsoni is in a great location with excellent options nearby for food and drink. It was a short walk to reach from the coach station and would be equally convenient for arriving by rail. The hotel is quite small (though spacious) and very quiet. The breakfast (continental) was excellent and good value (cheaper than any of the nearby bars or restaurants). The staff were very helpful and friendly. Most of the other guests were there for learning about glass mosaics (made in the attached glass foundry) and the hotel was filled with beautiful examples. The neighborhood has a great selection of bars and restaurants and there are a number of interesting places to visit right on your doorstep. The main doorbell didn't work. Otherwise, there was simply nothing not to like.
- Ulisses (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (6/5): Pleasant -
- Indre (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful place to stay. The space is beautiful and lovely, the location is perfect - quite neighbourhood and very easy to walk from property to anywhere in Venice. We would stay here again :) -
- Sharla (10/5): My go-to in Venice - Location and price, clean and friendly! nothing
- Alexandra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michel (10/5): Great place - Beautiful mansion in a quiet area of Venice. Everything was wonderful.
- Holly (2/5): Covered in bites and Disappointing stay! - The hotel is massively disappointing! The location is good, however the street outside is incredibly noisy with people crossing the bridge. We were woken up multiple times in the night due to noise. The room itself is incredibly dated, there is alot of black mould in the bathroom, up the wall and around the bath. The grouting needs replacing, an easy cheap diy job that’s unfortunately been ignored and gives the bathroom a grubby feel. The bed is almost unfit for purpose, it’s so squeaky even moving your feet leave the bed making squeaking noises, rolling over in the bed is again noisy. I wish staff would lay on the bed to see how loud this is for guests. We woke each other up just by the noise made my moving in bed. The radiator was constantly on and made the room uncomfortably hot, the air conditioning did not work. We didn’t want to open the windows as there is nothing to stop mosquitos, I was bitten through the night and woken up with 15 bites on my face. We both had a terrible nights sleep, and unfortunately breakfast was another disappointment, our room was next to the kitchen, staff were loud and talking from 7:15 which woke us up, when we went for breakfast, one scone, one bread roll and one egg is far from a “buffet breakfast” there wasn’t even a piece of fruit or cereal. I have to say I feel ripped off, for paying well over €300 for a bread roll offered at breakfast, covered in bites and a terrible nights sleep, I won’t be returning. I feel incredibly let down!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cozy, clean room. Lady at the front desk is very nice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay - Good experience, my 2nd time staying here. Love where it is (not in the main tourist path), love the mosaics and being so close to the furnace, just simply love the place. Bed was comfortable, it was quiet, enjoyed breakfast with amazing coffee!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Poor overall experience in Venice - Poor check in experience i.e. there wasnt one. Shower leaked badly, toilet ran all the time, air con non existent. Had to open window got bothered by mosquitoes, empty mosquitoe plug-in next to bed so useless. Surly staff, couldnt communicate. Vert expensive so poor value for money even by Venice standards I dont know why all the positive reviews the place is poorly maintained and incredibly noisy.
- Richard (10/5): Excellent rapport qualité-prix.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet neighbourhood with easy access to airport, train and bus stations. This is where the real Venetians live. Not luxurious, but simple, honest comfort and fascinating mosaic decorations - really works of art. Simple but filling breakfast. We come back every year during the off season and love Venice, Cannaregio, and Domus Orsoni!
- Jer (6/5): - Nice place.
The only inconvenience for us travelers is that the wifi was not good.
except for that, it was a clean room and very affordable for Venizia!
- alan b (8/5): Very nice, quaint and in a great location! - Wonderful find!
We were there in the heat of August, and quickly learned that air conditioning in Europe is just slightly greater than a fan. We were very hot in the room with the A/C on full blast (it was in the mid 90's F outside!), but learned that this was no different in the other restaurants we visited that boasted "air conditioning." Therefore, I don't hold that against the inn. We really loved the inn, the breakfast, and the hospitality. The location was perfect for us!
- Paulina (10/5): Great localisation - The hotel was great, in a perfect hidden spot
- Tracy (10/5): Fabulous stay in Venice - Fabulous room. Brilliant, helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved this hotel. It's within easy reach of the station and in a quiet neighbourhood so provided a peaceful break from Venice's busy tourist areas. Breakfast was tasty and fresh coffee. The bed was comfortable and the aircon worked well. We would definitely stay here again.
- john (10/5): Highly recommnded - This is a great place to stay. Great value. It is located very close to the vaporetto stop and an easy walk. Valentina was an excellent host and great with communication to coordinate our arrival.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place - Friendly staff, nice bathroom, roomy, good breakfast, nice terrace, beautiful artistic tilework, limited front desk hours not a problem.
- Rachel (10/5): Perfect stay! Amazing price! - Amazing stay in a lovely location just out of the really touristy areas. Breakfast included was great and staff were kind enough to leave food in our fridge after knowing we had an early check out. Rooms are decorated lovely and well kept, showers were a bit on cold side but we did not mind at all with the heatwave we had during our stay :)
- Nicholas (10/5): Comfy retreat from the tourist buste - Spacious double room with nicely fitted bathroom and own terrace at rear of this lovely old 1900s ceramicist family home with still-functioning workshop beyond the garden. Adequare continental breakfast in adjacent dining room or al fresco. Valentina was a very helpful hostess. Quiet area off the normal tourist route, but quite hard to find on arrival.Look for the passageway adjacent to no. 1035 Fondamente di Canarregio and the entrance is round the back. Good choice of outdoor eateries in vicinity. Fabulous!
- Lynne (10/5): - Excellent location
