- 237eivindd (10/5): Excellent quality hotel in Porto - I had originally booked a stay at Lenscape Coterie, but that hotel didn't make its announced opening in time. So I was instead re-booked to Torel Avantgarde and also upgraded to a suite. I stayed at the hotel for three nights and it was a pleasant experience. Very good service from the staff from the moment I checked in. The room had more than enough space for me, and the bed was very comfortable. Really peaceful breakfast area (with possibilities of sitting outdoors) and a nice selection of good quality food on offer. I also invited a couple of friends for lunch and we were happy with both the food and service. I didn't try any of the pools (one outdoors and one indoors) nor the spa, so can't comment on those. The hotel is located just a few minutes walk from the Clerigos tower. I could easily recommend this hotel for anyone planning to stay in Porto.

- Sunshine09689602554 (10/5): Excellent service, staff, and beautiful grounds - We had a lovely stay at the Torel Avantgarde. We stayed here for part of our honeymoon. The staff was incredibly helpful and kind, and all spoke excellent English. The breakfast was superb with beautiful views of the ribeira. The location was a bit out of the way from the “downtown” area, but an easy 10 minute walk away. I actually appreciated being a little bit further away as it was much quieter and better for a restful sleep. The concierge also helped us book a Duoro wine tour, which was phenomenal! Lastly, if you like art, the hotel is essentially dedicated to celebrating artwork, making the whole place quite beautiful. I would happily stay here again when visiting Porto

From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive throughout our entire visit. We were so grateful to receive a room upgrade, and the view was truly breathtaking. Some of our favorite memories from the trip were sitting out on the deck with champagne, taking in the scenery; such unforgettable moments! The hotel itself was beautiful in every way. The room was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, with a great bathroom and amazing shower water pressure. Every amenity we used was clean, well maintained, and thoughtfully designed. Breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious, and the view from the breakfast area made it even more special. The location was also perfect, we could easily walk everywhere and truly enjoy the area without needing transportation. Thank you again to the entire team for such a memorable experience. We already cannot wait to come back!

- msquin (8/5): Very Nice and Modern Hotel - It was hard trying to decide on what hotel to stay during our vacation and after our visit, I have to say that we chose a great location. While we were not directly in the city, we were close enough to walk everywhere and yet far enough away to not hear any loud music. We arrived early in the morning and our room was not ready which was to be expected. I loved that they accommodated us by allowing us to use the spa facilities for a quick shower that was much needed after our long flight. After we freshened up, they tagged our bags and left them with the concierge. We walked the city and got the lay of our location. We really wanted a quick nap before dinner, but when we returned to the hotel our room still was not ready and we did not fully check in until 3:45. The room was nice, but I think the photos online looked better than what we got. We did have a separate living space with a couch that we appreciated. The room was clean and they provided refillable bottles of water. While that was a great perk, it was a bit irritating that we had to call them each time we wanted a refill and they would only give you 1 bottle each time. My husband and I both drink a lot of water, so we ended up buying bottles to ensure that we had enough throughout the night. The breakfast was very good, although it was pretty much the same each day. The staff was nice, but not the best with recommendations or suggestions. The art work was very cool and the hotel very modern and pretty. I would definitely stay here again.

- EWH5657 (6/5): Nice hotel, room lacking - Nice hotel. But amenities lacking. Absolutely no where to put things. Bathroom has small sink, no where to place toiletries. Closets don’t accommodate long hanging items. We had toiletries all over room. No shelving, etc. Hairdryer is one of those where you have to hold button down the whole time. No light in bathroom for makeup.

The atmosphere was great and stuff so friendly. Excellent service at all areas. Rooms were kept very clean and are beautiful designed with individual motifs. Hardly noise heard. Breakfast variety was very good and we loved the hot dish variety with eggs! The view from that place is extraordinary Some utilities in the room can still be improved. TV was very low in volume and could only be controlled from 50 cm distance. The coffee machine is a bit tricky and the capsule system not easy to handle. Besides we had everything we needed and felt very comfortable. Beds are good to sleep in.

We stayed in one of the standard rooms and I was a bit disappointed that there was not a separate bathroom with a door, it was all just in one room. Not great for privacy! Breakfast was really good although did take a while sometimes to get the attention of the staff waiting there. Went to dinner at the restaurant one night which was poor - food not great and took over an hour to come out after ordering, but they did give us free wine as an apology! It is a bit of a walk down to the river (and back up!) but ubers are really cheap. Overall, a really nice hotel if perhaps a touch expensive for the size and quality of the room that we had.

After we had checked out we came back to wait for the taxi and they made up a free coffee which is just really good service. Bit disappointed with the size of the room for the price. Also annoying that there was no privacy with the bathroom, it was not in a separate room. We booked into the restaurant for one evening and the food was not great, and took a long time to come out, but they did give us free wine to say sorry, which was appreciated. A hard climb back to the hotel from the river!

Atmosphere was lovely and friendly, welcoming staff and welcome drink on arrival. Bottle of bubbly in the room was a nice touch. Breakfast was amazing with fantastic, attentive staff! Room was great size, but painted very dark that required lights on at all times. Very comfortable bed, very uncomfortable couch. Balconies… sadly the most disappointing aspect of the stay, in spite of having two, they were so small and dark they were largely useless. Social relaxing areas were outstanding. In summary, a great stay in Porto but wouldn’t return due to standard of balconies and decour of the room.
- HannesBach (6/5): Nice, but could do better - The hotel is close to many of the major landmarks, but a long walk down to the water. It aims very high but doesn't deliver. We heard traffic noise in the night as well as voices and movement in the room above us. The room was very poorly designed. The bathroom was spacious with a full, trendy tub, but the toilet was tiny with a partial frosted door, rather than a floor-to-ceiling door. As a result anything that went on in the toilet reverberated throughout the entire room. The central/sitting area was too small and very dark. There was a small table, one chair (even though it was a double room) and a small ottoman. The bedroom was small and dark. The place bills itself as being literary and rooms are named after authors. However, the light was so low that reading was uncomfortable. There were two small stone "steps" from one area of the room to another. These are tiny, but they are large enough to trip over, especially at night in the dark. I doubt they would meet US ADA laws. The restaurant is beautiful and has great views of the city. The food was wonderful! However, the servers were slow and disorganized---this was the case with all meals and it inconvenienced multiple guests. Given the hotel bills its commitment to wellness, it was ironic that there was a smoker on the porch where people were eating. Diago at the front desk was always very helpful, some of the other staff were close to being dismissive.

The staff was very friendly proactive and welcoming during our stay all little details were to please us.. the friendly goodbye note, the water in our car on departure.. the excellent breakfast with a large healthy choice of fruits, cheeses, bread eggs and so on… The hotel facilities were indeed avantgarde and design pleasures. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy.. we found the design features more important then the comfort the room was too dark for reading and so on.. The shower/ bathroom taps were awkward in handling… But overall we were satisfied and will vome back…

The staff were superb - friendly, attentive and nothing was too much hassle. The breakfast was also excellent, and they made a special effort to bring vegan options directly to our table every morning. Our room, although nice, was looking a little tired - chipped paint and general wear and tear. There's was also no proper door seperating the bathroom from the bedroom area, just semi-frosted glass doors for the shower and toilet, which was fine for us (a couple) but perhaps not ideal for friends sharing. The terrace also overlooked the carpark.

I’m honestly shocked it’s rated a 5 star hotel and really hope if that’s the case that they do better. When we arrived after a long day of travel the front desk employee (Ines) greeted us so poorly. She informed me that my room was sold to someone else and that’s there nothing left for us. I said “how can this be, I even paid a deposit.” To which she replied “clearly not” with attitude. After another associate steps in and kindly finds us a room our night only got worse. The room was discussing and unsanitary. There was toothpaste splattered all throughout the bathroom and the floors of the shower were dirty. I messaged the front desk and prayed the bed was clean because we were exhausted and had to get some rest. The next morning they switched our room and when we got there the smoke detector had painters tap covering it. Which is completely unsafe God forbid there would have been a fire. We honestly gave up at this point as we only had one more night. But I would NEVER return to this hotel.

We made good use of the pools, the spa prices were high for treatments so didn’t get any. Gym small but sufficient. The entire hotel has a sleek, moody, design-forward feel that immediately puts you at ease. We stayed in the Marcel Duchamp Room, and it was perfection. Rich, chocolate-brown tones, a huge king bed with incredibly comfortable pillows, and two private balconies that made the space feel even more special. It was the kind of room you don’t want to leave—especially when you’re tired and just want to sink into something beautiful and calming. Our lunch upon arrival, overlooking the Douro River, was the perfect welcome, and dinner in the evening was just as amazing. The setting and views are stunning, and every detail throughout the hotel feels intentional. The staff was warm and attentive from start to finish. Breakfast each morning felt like a full culinary experience. The espresso martinis in the evening before heading out were excellent—and honestly helped us ease into the time change. The location was also a huge plus, a few blocks removed from the crowds yet, very easy to walk to sightseeing around the city, and anytime we needed a taxi, one arrived within minutes, which made everything feel effortless. We wish we had time to experience the spa, but we’re already looking forward to coming back and enjoying it on our next visit. We will definitely make this our go-to hotel every time we’re in Porto.

The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful- always available for any request. The location is ideal for exploring and we had a delicious meal at Digby on our final evening. I would recommend staying here

- jaymL3337QZ (6/5): Very nice but could improve - This is a beautiful hotel with wonderful amenities, views, food, and experience. However, our stay was less than desirable. We were exhausted after traveling all night and just wanted to visit the spa and take a nap. We were told check-in would occur at 3pm. We visited the spa and sat outside in our robes with wet hair because there was no place else to sit in robes. By 4:30, our room was still "not ready". The sun was going down and it was getting cold. My husband continually visited the reception desk to inquire as to our room readiness. Finally at about 5 pm the reception clerk admitted that the prior guest had taken the room key at their check-out and had to drive it all the way back to the hotel to return it. Their failure to collect the key should not have impacted our check-in! We were very disappointed in this! The location was wonderful and convenient access to key areas we were visiting. The spa was lovely and clean with the most helpful staff. Reception gave us a discount on a wonderful dinner at Digby which we appreciated, but I wound up getting sick with a terrible cold from sitting outside with wet hair for hours. Inexcusable for a 5* hotel!

- Constantin (8/5): TOO expensive for these kind of room issues - - the design, the view, the food - a TV that was impossible to watch due to the glare of a glass that was installed in front of the tv AND made the remote to barely work. You need to be close to the tv and perpendicular - the light above the night tables didn’t work properly, you need two people to turn them on OR to switch one on and move to the second one to make it work - in the bathroom the light around the window was so dim you couldn’t see your face

The glass of sparkling wine on arrival was very appreciated. No proper door on toilet or shower, just frosted glass and no other mirror in the room. The room was quite dark because of the decor and lighting.

If I had to be very picky, it would have been great to have Netflix/smart TV's in the room. This in no way impacted our stay but might be important for other guests who aren't too busy exploring Porto.

- Gift (6/5): Amazing but the other racist guests downgrades the experience. - The breakfast was great with a nice variety of choices, the facilities were great, the decor was lovely and the fragrance through out the hotel was calming. The staff were very accommodating and pleasant and the food at the Digby restaurant was amazing. I also loved how every room had a different theme and meaning. They hosted a French speaking racist company dinner (on 29/01/2026). The employees of that company didn’t like the idea of a black woman enjoying herself at the Digby restaurant during my solo holiday at the hotel. The French speaking group of racists consisted of 3 older men and 1 older woman that said “they are everywhere, they are invading the nice spaces”, they said this to a white male waiter and he laughed along, I hope he was just being polite and didn’t agree with them as he was lovely to me when I dined at the Digby restaurant the next night. Mind you I was the only other person at the restaurant. However, they didn’t know I spoke English and understood them so when they heard me ordering my food in English with a British accent they were distrust and silent with shocked looks on their faces. After that I didn’t hear any political hate speeches but experienced passive aggressive behaviour from one of the older males as he passed by my table. Thankfully this was not the attitude of all of the guests but only some of those just dining at the restaurant and bars and NOT staying at the hotel, surprise surprise.
