Guest Reviews
- Arata (10/5): -
- Aleksei (7/5): Great value for money - You get exactly what you expect to get, great value for money. The location is good, it's pretty quiet here (not perfect though, 30-35 minutes walking to the port). The property was really spacious, you have everything you need, even free rental bikes. The lighting was not really comfortable. But other than that couldn't complain much.
- Rana (9/5): -
- Michal (10/5): - We really enjoyed this accomodation. The location is very good and has this traditional japanese feeling. You can also use the washing machine and dryer, there is also a garage place for the car.

- Ayano (10/5): -
- Gene (8/5): A comfortable Japanese living experience! - Very spacious and traditional house experience. The house could have been cleaned better. I had to clean up lots of hair at the bathroom sink before my wife noticed. I know it was overlooked, accidentally not checked out.
- CHENG HSI (9/5): -
- Heather (8/5): -
- Frances (5/5): - It was a large space. It was clean but smelly in places, damp in the wardrobe. It was clearly a home, eg towels drapped over kitchen appliances.
The host was not at all helpful and didn't even look at me, just gave me a form to fill in. Some guidance would have been helpful eg that it's a 25 min walk from the port. He had said let him know if you have large luggage, I did, and he ignored it.
Lots of don't do this signs around.
It would have been nice if a sheet was put on the mattress protector, but at least I found one.
- kazuki (10/5): Recommend - Nice looking & seems traditional Japanese house.
Which is excellent Not applicable

- Felix (7/5): - Price was amazing. The place was comfortable. Fridge was big. AC was surprisingly efficient. It was big, really really big. Heat insolation was amazing it kept it's cold a lot. It was full. Like the kitchen was full and overwhelmed. Things definitely had a "cabin in the woods" feel which is definitely not for me but if it's your vibe you'll love it. The staff felt like he really didn't want to have us there, unsure why. It wasn't super central, far from it but knowing how Yakushima isn't designed to not have a car, I would say if you have a car this location works well.
Unsure why but at 6am, 7am and 8am there were loud speakers outside saying things I was too sleepy to understand it was very unpleasant.
The bathroom didn't look clean but maybe it was just a vibe. Honestly if you like camping or cabin in the woods you'll love this place.

- Kit (9/5): Great stay in Yakushima - Yakusugi house is a great place to rest after a day of exploring Yakushima. It's a short drive from the port, supermarket and restaurants. The kitchen is well stocked and there is a washing machine and dryer. The host provided us western beds which were very comfy. We enjoyed spending our evenings under the kotatsu listening to the frogs outside. Some of the check in instructions were confusing. Before we arrived we were sent a map of parking spots and a location to pick up the key, but on arrival that information didn't seem accurate. We were asked to move our car and there were conflicting check in directions on the cottage door.
- Nikolaos (7/5): Good -
- Ken (8/5): Very good -
- Chen (10/5): Exceptional - The owner was a very kind gentleman who helped give us a lift to not only the airport, but also the car rental!! The house was very clean and spacious with many facilities available, such as a washing machine.
- Martyna (8/5): Very good - The host is very nice and helpful. It was a great experience to have stayed in a traditional Japanese house. It's very conveniently located, especially if you have a car. Very quiet neighbourhood. There's lots of space in the house which is a nice change after weeks in tiny city hotel rooms. Generally well equipped - there was a pair of hiking poles, some shoe dryers, lots of local guide books which we found very useful. The house was far from "perfectly clean" - most of the dishes required a thorough wash before we first used it, there was lots of dirt and dust in the corners of the floors, the trash bins where kind of nasty. But the most important things like towels, sheets, shower, toilet etc. were all clean.
The clothes dryer is coin-operated and you cannot pay for less than three hours, but the drying cycles are much shorter and it turns off automatically approximately every half hour. You have to check the dryer every half hour and restart the program, which is very inconvenient since the dryer is located outside the building. This means you can’t just set your laundry to dry and go to sleep or leave the house.
The kitchen seems to be well-equipped but we couldn't find any proper cutting knives (there were only butter knives), which is obviously a necessity if you actually want to use the kitchen.
- Masato (7/5): Good -

- Nil (9/5): Superb -
- Gina (10/5): Exceptional -
- M. (9/5): Superb - A really nice traditional house. The sliding doors (shoji) and the floormats (tatami) made the place beautiful. The doors near the beds could open and there was a insect screen door. The view from those windows was amazing! A vegetable garden with green mountains further away. I was feeling like I was in a tent. It made me happy.
We rented a car at Yuko rental cars. That was very good and nearby. The kitchen had a lot of equipment. But it made it feel a bit full with stuff.
The washing machine could use an upgrade. I didn't dare to use it.
- Ito (9/5): Superb -
- David (9/5): All the comforts of home at a very affordable price. - It is like a home, with pretty much everything provided for you. The kitchen is particularly well-equipped. There is a kotatsu as well as a heater. There is a washer and dryer for a small fee. The TV has lots of channels and there are DVDs also, for those days when you’re stuck inside because of rain. I stayed there alone, but it could comfortably sleep 4 to 6 people. There is an A Coop grocery store about ten minutes away on foot, and they have a large selection. A steal for the price. It’s a bit far from the ferry terminal (about a 30-35 minute walk) and the sidewalk on the slope uphill gets slippery when it’s wet. But there is a bus that goes from the ferry terminal that stops at the high school which is a minute walk from the house, and only costs 140 yen.
- Voon (10/5): Lovely warm kotatsu, and loved sleeping in futons! A good mix of traditional style living with wireless charging for pho - The character! Lots of natural wood, and traditional style rooms! I love tatami floor and there was also wireless charging docks for our phones! Nothing
- Elisabeth (9/5): Superb -
- Atsuya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good - Very lovely Japanese house, quite spacious and comfortable.
- Christian (8/5): Very good - Nice Apartment with everything you Need. Good Price and close to the town.
- Mervi (9/5): Athmospheric stay - Traditional and spacious japanese house, nice and helpful host, good amenities Everything was fine!
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Nice home away from home Parking is a bit tight
- Helen (8/5): Very good -
- Dan (10/5): A very pleasant place to stay in Yakushima - The apartment had all the things you need and beyond, plus a very good location! The owner is a very kind man!
- Ivano (9/5): Excellent and relaxing typical Japanese home - Beautiful atmosphere genuine local. All equipped. Some essential information to tour the island at hand. Quiet and comfortable (just skip the western type bed and lay on the futons). A bit out of maintenance and cleaning (especially the kitchen). Obviously not very well treated by previous guests.
- Steven (10/5): Fantastic in every way! - Fantastic!
- Rafaela (7/5): Good -
- Jean-marie (9/5): Superb - Nice house in Yakushima. Nothing
- Zhihan (10/5): Exceptional - It was a wonderful house and super value for money. It was clean and big and can easily host a big group. There are also nice restaurants nearby. There are a lot of flies at night in summer so make sure to keep doors and windows closed.
- Li (7/5): Cedar house - Very cute house with a pleasant atmosphere. Nice to experience living in an authentic Japanese house. The whole house is made of cedar, it smelled very nice.
The kitchen and the pantry were fully equipped, very handy.
The place had a private parking space which is very useful. Sitting pillows and a cover under the table were dirty, we didn't use those.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely Japanese “feel’. Great facilities. Very good value.
- Daniel (7/5): Good -
- Louise (9/5): overall loved my stay I had dinner one night and it was delicious - great staff and location the room I had looked a bit tired
- Daniel (10/5): The most interesting place I stayed in my entire trip. - This is a beautiful home that is much more traditional than anywhere else I managed to stay in my month-long trip in Japan. It was spacious and well maintained. It also comes with its own kitchen and fridge if you do want to cook your own food. Though we had trouble communicating in both Japanese (I am far from fluent) and English, we made it through in the end :P. I have only one complaint, but it is a complaint I had all across Japan: The dryers are painful and expensive to use if you want to wash your clothing.
- Yoann (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ksenia (7/5): It could be very nice, but it was too dirty. - A house with history, it has planty of space, comfy footons and a coach, the whole house is made of Yakusugi wood. There're 2 rooms divided by rice paper sllide doors, which are super traditional and nice, but no noise isolation.
It has everything you need- a kitchen, a coin washing machine (be sure to have enough 100 yen coins), parking, drying coin machine outside at the bicycle parking.
There is a small garden outside where it's allowed to smoke. Dirty. Very dirty sink and kitchen countertop. and shower room, too, could be cleaned better.
All the kitchen blankets, sponges, etc. were super dirty.
One just needs to clean and replace it all and it will become so much better.
- Danilo (10/5): Excellent ryokan - The house is big and clean. The kitchen is equipped with everything: microns, stove, crockery. The owner came to pick us up and take us to the airport. It is a bit far from the center (25 minutes on foot). Recommended nothing to report
- Royce (10/5): A beautiful place that made me feel at home on the island. - Beautiful home in a convenient location. Lots of space, fully stocked with everything we needed. We hope to stay here again next time we visit!
- Keyne (7/5): Good - well equipped
very spacious
convenient location
friendly, responsive and helpful host refrigerator and oven not clean
- Yoav (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniel (9/5): Noce affordable country house in Yakushima - Nice spacious country house we had all to ourselves, full kitchen and cable TV - a very nice place for an affordable price and access to bicycles. There are some options for eating in the area but not located in central Miyanoura or Anbo.
- Liu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eileen (9/5): Superb -
- Jack (9/5): Superb -
- Vicky (10/5): Very nice place - would come back! - The owner helped us a lot with finding out how to get where! Also, the room was huge and absolutely enough for the three of us. Everything was clean and we had everything we could wish for. The location itself was not very central, but since we knew that we accepted that.
- Margaret (8/5): Great base to explore Yakushima Island - great once we worked everything out and had lots of extras such as condiments and cooking facilities and offered mineral salts to add to bath for small extra cost to enhance experience. DVDs and books fir English speakers also very thoughtful. can park off road on side of cottage. Heated Kotatsu is under coffee table also nice to warm up main room and ability to close screen so two futons each in separate rooms appreciated with adult children. I was confused about property location to check in but think if I had known arrival time and waited at property it would have been fine. Booking.com giving instruction to check in at private residence down road seemed odd but knocked on door and then walked a few houses down to property we stayed in.
- Guillaume (9/5): Superb -
- Dale (7/5): Good -
- Roman (7/5): Good -
- Tzi (10/5): Stay here if you can, perfect if you have a car too for parking - Whole house to yourself! Very nice traditional japanese style house on a quiet street. Well maintained and exceptionally clean. Owner was very helpful in making our stay comforting. He's also very experienced with the area so if you have any questions regarding the long hikes and nearby attractions, he's the perfect person to ask and seems happy to help A dehumidifier during the rainy season would have been a nice addition as the AC dehumidifier mode did not work too well.
- Keith (10/5): Exceptional - Great open space, near bus spot, did airport pickups, japanese traditional ambience, super Nintendo games and other things for kids are available, collection of ghibli dvds. Loved the placed, would definitely go back again
- Ver277 (10/5): Authentic Japanese house for stay - Cozy and authentic Japanese style house, really nice owner who lives nearby can help out with needs, near the sea port
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful location. The host was wonderful. - We highly recommend staying here as it was comfortable, quiet and great location. The host was very responsive to our needs. He also drove us about the island in his car.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Boon Kiat (10/5): Excellent Value for Money: Perfect Place to Stay! - Every thing was great! The host was hospitable and the location was perfect. The cottage was huge, with 14 tatami mats in the living area, not to mention room for washing clothes, and drying. The kitchen was well equipped. There was nothing more to ask for.
