- Christopher (10/5): One of kind accommodations - It’s hard to say what I like most about this place. On one hand, I want to start off by saying how incredible the view is. The placement of these two cottages is energizing. Perhaps more energizing is the staff. They are so kind and thoughtful and add a warm, personal touch. I was honored to have my main point of contact be the wife of the head priest of this incredible temple! And to top it off, I was honored again to meet the head priest himself, Daiko Iizuka. My conversation with him, meeting his wife and daughter, being able to walk around this peaceful property that dates back over 1000 years; the whole experience is something that can’t be replicated and I am still grateful to have experienced it.
- Tuomas (10/5): - Really peaceful and beautiful place! Also the cottage has a lot of space and the amenities were great, they even have a finnish style sauna with private outside space. The temple staff is super friendly and kind, and the breakfast option was always tasty with the food having some variety.

- KJ Yun (10/5): - What a beautiful view! Not really
- Marie (10/5): Exceptionnel !
- Davide (9/5): Superb - Wonderful view of the lake, and a very peaceful location. The cottage is fully equipped with kitchen tools, large smart TV, excellent bathroom facility. We enjoyed our stay and we will return here in future.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional - A gorgeous cottage in a beautiful area. The staff were lovely, very open to conversation
- Chris (10/5): Stay on the beautiful and well-maintained temple grounds. - What a surprise this place was! You get to stay on the beautiful temple grounds. The view from the property is great. A great location in between Izumo and Matsue. There's a hiking trail that starts close by that goes all the way to the ocean. There's a sauna right outside the cabin that you can rent for a few hours. One of the employees from the temple will bring you breakfast each morning.
We went to the nearby Izumo Enmusubi Onsen (about 15 min drive) and enjoyed the large outdoor onsen. Watching the birds fly over while relaxing in the onsen was so pleasant.
It's neither a pro nor a con, but the cabin itself had a very western feel to it. At one point my wife said "I feel like we've stayed in places like this in the US".
This was a great deal for the price. The location was nice for solitude, but you had to drive for a while to get food each night. There were great places to eat about 15 minutes away. Not sure how this would work if we didn't have a car.
The stairs were a bit steep going up to the bed. It wasn't too much a problem for us, but you did have to be very careful getting up at night to use the bathroom.
- Leonie (10/5): One of the best places I have ever stayed in - the deck with umbrellas in a garden in the mountains overlooking the lake - The mountain scenery and view, best enjoyed on the deck were lovely, along with the atmosphere indoors brought on by a wood cabin feel. It was also extremely well kitted out for self contained living. That we couldn’t stay for longer - it was just lovely and one of the best we’ve ever stayed in.
- Laurence (9/5): Locked Out! - I like the privacy of the mountain ridge. You only hear the wilds and occasional Jets flying overhead. The panorama view of the mountains and Lake Shinji. On my second night after returning late in the evening. My entry code wouldn't work. I tried several times - fast, slow, slower and still nothing happens. I even waited for the system to reboot itself. And still it wouldn't open. I then text you as well as the facility. But no answer until morning. Ended up sleeping in my car. The temperature got as low as mid 40s°F.
Had to start and run my car a couple of times to stay warm. Had to use the restroom so I had to walk downhill to an open restroom. Upon my return. The Head Priest just informed me that he reset the codes and everything was set to go. I ask him if I can get a credit for that night to be used for my next stay. He said yes and will apply it on my next stay in about 3 months.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thud (9/5): A thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing stay in a serene and peaceful environment. Highly recommended! - The whole ambience of the location was great, very peaceful, quiet and serene. The breakfast (both Japanese and Western) were delicious, well-presented and satisfying. The cottage that we were in had fantastic views across the mountains and lake and was well equipped. What we also appreciated were the directional signs leading to the cottages which were in English, a refreshing change from all the Japanese signs that we had to decipher. A truly pleasant and enjoyable stay. What could be better were the Wi-Fi speeds. The connection speeds were excruciatingly slow and so we were unable to download/upload photos, documents etc. Hope this can be improved soon.
Personally, the pillow was a bit too high for me. As we don’t speak Japanese, we didn’t bother to ask for different pillows. If the cottage could provide a few more pillows, that would have been great.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kelsie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kelsie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rudolfo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laurence (10/5): I have stayed here before and always look forward to coming back again. Got to use the Sauna too. -
- Kelsie (8/5): Absolutely relaxing. - The view was spectacular, and the location was perfectly set between Matsue and Izumo. The proximity to the temple was so relaxing. The staff was very kind and check in was super easy!
- Laurence (10/5): Pandemic Escape - Quietness being on a mountain ridge with lots of privacy. They added an outdoor Sauna that can only be use doing certain hours with added fees.
