Guest Reviews
- Vongai (9/5): - Beautiful views. Helpful and friendly host. Quiet and peaceful area. Was a bit concerned to bump into baboons but fortunately did not. We were worried about whether the parking was secure but the host assured us of the safety of the area.
- FRANCOIS (10/5): -
- Daan (8/5): We had a great stay. Estelle and Gerrit are warm hospitable hosts and we enjoyed learning about the area from them. We h - We enjoyed the sense of history we felt in the old buildings we stayed and ate our breakfasts in. We enjoyed the little community feel around it and walks to the church and up the Montagu Pass which is presently closed. The gardens were lovely with lavender and roses. The valley is filled with many Proteas and we were surprised to learn that much of SAB’s hopps come from this area. We also very much enjoyed getting to know Estelle and Gerrit. The outdoor communal kitchen wasn’t what I expected and it was not so nice to be outside cooking in the rain. But it was adequately equipped for basic meals which we ate outside our room.
- Claudie (9/5): Overall a fabulous stay and we would gladly stay there again - Beautiful location
Very clean
Well organized
Outside play area for the kids was a bonus Walls quite thin between the rooms
I would've liked more info on the communal kitchenette mentioned in the pamphlet in the room...hadn't noticed anything mentioned about it when booking (perhaps i just didnt see it?) and it also wasn't mentioned at reception

- Devanam (10/5): - Beautiful establishment with a Magnificent view! Friendly and accommodating hosts!
- Johann (10/5): Beautiful, quiet and relaxing - Estelle is a lovely host, she told us some stories about this beautiful place. The garden and the views are amazing. In the back of the house there are some kitchen tools we could use, the breakfast is very nice. The rooms and bed are comfortable. There is nothing bad about this place!
It also fits our 5 year old son. I would love to spend more time here.
George is dichtstbijzijnde gelegenheid.
- Motla (10/5): - It was a pity we stayed only for 1 night. The swimming pool with mountain views
- Walker (8/5): -

- Claudia (10/5): Definitely a winner for families! We loved it and so did our toddler. - We loved the tranquillity of the property, being able to park next to our room, the small touches like the flowers and refreshments. Super child friendly, the pool was amazing next to the braai facility, the trampolines, the views and of course the friendliest cat named Rocket who was with us our entire stay. My toddler couldn’t have been happier! All exceeded expectations- nothing to complain about.
- Sedick (7/5): - The views. The spacious room and the nice staff No TV in the room

- Asanda (10/5): Home in the mountains ⛰️ - Peace and tranquility. That place is beautiful. Driving through Outeniqua Pass was one of the beautiful experiences I have done in a while. Thanks to Estelle for checking up on me and useful information. I came prepared for the night. Breakfast - oh my word!!! Breakfast 🤏🤏🤏 Booking for one night.

- Amalia (10/5): A Peaceful Escape with True Karoo Hospitality - My mother and I had the pleasure of staying at Over the Mountain Guestfarm while attending the Cape Pioneer event held at Lovain, just 17 km away. From the moment we arrived, Estelle welcomed us with such warmth and kindness that we immediately felt at home.
The highlight of our stay was the delicious homemade Bobotie and Roosterkoek — truly comforting and full of flavor. The peaceful surroundings and the breathtaking sunset were the cherry on top, making our experience unforgettable.
If you're looking for a tranquil retreat with genuine hospitality and a taste of traditional South African cooking, Over the Mountain Guestfarm is a perfect choice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return!

- Herbert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Madéle (8/5): Very good -
- Billy (7/5): Overall satisfied with our stay and will definitely consider it again in future - This is such a tranquil area with the most beautiful views of surrounding mountains and star lit skies. Also the history of the (almost) town and church as told by the church reverent was fascinating. I urge all guests to visit the nearby church and enjoy a great history lesson. The Wi-Fi was no good and one could only get signal (internet) outside the rooms and the staff was not very helpful in that regards.
- Karen (7/5): Beautiful stay in historical town - Stunning location
- Venessa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Greeff (9/5): Tranquil, calm and cozy - The location and scenery is amazing. The staff are very friendly. The hiking route was a little confusing. Couldn't really figure out where to go. Rooms could use a fan or Aircon. Might just be a personal issue but it was quite hot.
- Wendy (8/5): We should like to stay there again as it was a very pleasant experience. Lovely people and beautifu - Lovely location. Friendly staff and owner. We would have like to have an evening meal on the premises.
we would have liked fresh or longlife mil in the fridge. Cremora is so unhealthy .

- Simon (8/5): comfortable and affordable. A great place to break your journey. - this is a very comfortable farm house in the mountains. If you want 5 star rooms, then this is not for you. But if you are looking for a comfortable, clean and affordable stay in the country, then this is for you. There are no shops in the immediate area, but lots of clean air and country hospitality. I forgot my bag with books in the room and the manager arranged for it to be brought down to my next stop. Very kind of him, many thanks. all great.
- Daniella (10/5): If ever we needed a place to stay in this area. We would return. - Breakfast was good as well as the location. Don't have any complaints
- Potgieter (10/5): Lovely tranquil away from the city. - Roosterbrood was a winner!

- Pearse (8/5): Very good - It was a very nice place ,the view, the rooms ! We really enjoyed it and the little kids area was a bonus ! The ants biting us and the swimming pool was not what we expected it was black and full of life
- Beswick (8/5): A lovely place to stay with friendly owners and staff. - The setting is beautiful. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The gardens are pretty. The drive up the pass to get there is astounding. The room looked bigger in the photos, although it was perfectly comfortable.
- Midzi (8/5): Great place to stay located in a farming environment. A bit of a distance from the main centres - The rooms are huge and comfortable. Great mountain views A bit of a distance from the main centres
- Anchen (7/5): Good -
- Faheem (8/5): Very good -
- Sekwena (8/5): A hidden germ - The farm is in a remote location, making it perfect for some quiet, time coming from busy cities. Although remote, you can still travel back and forth to big cities like George, Wilderness, and Mossel Bay easily, for a day (if interested) and come back to enjoy the beautiful sunset by the balcony next to your room. Family-friendly, with a playground for kids and a pool; a small communal kitchen, for self-catering, and close to a vineyard for wine tasting. The owners and staff are friendly and able to assist with anything reasonably asked.
A hidden germ. The ants (the owners did make us aware), also expected on a country side.
- Siphesihle (10/5): A great family experience - We enjoyed our stay, its a pity we only stayed for just a few nights, wished we stayed the whole festive. The staff very friendly and accommodating. Our daughter enjoyed the trampoline and loved picking up flowers and roses.
- Ey_m (10/5): Tranquility and Views - Well kept property and beautiful landscape. makes one feel like in Tuscany with the rolling mountains! We stayed in the Welch House and were very comfortable. Hosts made our supper upon last-minute request and they were delicious. breakfast was beautifully presented and very nice too.
- Roux (5/5): Passable -
- Atul (7/5): MONTAGU STOP OVER - Nestled in very picturesque surroundings in Montagu Valley. Neat and clean room. An old village kind a set up. Overall a good and comfy stay. A very basic set up. Could be an option in emergency for an overnight halt only. Nothing in vicinity really to bank upon.
- Mandy (9/5): It was a lovely stay at a beautiful location - Beautiful setting
- Dewald (8/5): Enjoyed our stay at the guesthouse. Worth a visit. -
- Jon (8/5): Very good -
- Wendy (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lee-ann (2/5): Very poor - The way we ask can we leave the dog who are the quietest there with food and water and then a hour later she told us we must come back to fech the dog and we paid for 2 night and extra stay for the day and did not even ask if we want to have the money back because we are not allowe to leave the dog alone at place I feel she can treat us better because we paid extra
- Xaba (9/5): Superb - The host was so lovely, has such a great time.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Nice accommodation in a stunningly beautiful setting... we also loved the little shop over the road! - The location was outstandingly beautiful and peaceful It would have been nice to have access out of the back kitchen door to have a cup of tea in the early morning sun.
Loungers by the pool would have been nice too!
- Yanesh (7/5): Overall very convenient location to take a break from a 7hr drive - Location is really convenient for us as it’s almost halfway to PE and Vanwyksdorp No cutlery provided in the room but is there in the little outdoor kitchenette. Not so convenient especially if one is getting take aways as they do not always serve meals. Wifi network also not so great.
- Benette (10/5): Exceptional -
- Smit (7/5): Value for money - Nice clean and comfortable accommodation.
- Shamoné (7/5): Peace and quiet. - The views are the place was exceptional. Peaceful Was too far from the Town.
- Daniel (9/5): Superb -
- Thamae (10/5): Exceptional - View and the coolest temperatures around the area Nothing
- Delone (6/5): Unhappy Client - The place was clean. I loved the view of the mountains. The attitude of the owner or lady that helped us. We were running late, and she made a few calls, but I could not answer because I was driving. We arrived at the property, and she was irrated and not willing to assist with simple questions.
The next morning, she came and treated us in an unhospitable manner. This lady was rude...
- Van (6/5): Pleasant - It was clean, tidy. There was coffee, sugar and powdered milk available at in room coffee station. Clean, and extra bedding. Maybe set out a butt bucket outside for the smokers. Battled to get hold of the owners, faulty landline, without them knowing, it's corrected now. Maybe have a cellular number also available on the website/Google listing.
- Liam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nosiphiwo (1/5): Disappointing service, bad customer experience - It was terrible Rooms were not hygienic and bad odor. There was a draft / wind coming through window vantilation and under the main door, which resulted in the room being very cold. and the child got sick. When I approached the manager/ owner to enquire about cancelation and refund for part of the payments, his attitude was acceptable. He did not provide us with satisfactory service. Overall, my family had bad experience at the establishment. I would not recommend this place at all.
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kenny (8/5): Very good - should have a microwave in the room its all thats needed
- Gert (6/5): Pleasant -
