Important Information

Smoking is strictly prohibited in the property. If guests are found smoking within property premises, they will be asked to leave immediately. No refunds will be given. In addition, 1-person rooms can only accommodate 1 people, 2-person rooms can only accommodate 2 people, and 3-person rooms must be booked by a group of 3 guests. Children including infants cannot be accommodated at this property. Guests with children will not be permitted to check-in, and will be charged cancelation fees. The property will not be able to provide a room for guests checking in with children on the arrival day. The hotel has a curfew at 00:00. Guests cannot enter or leave the hotel after this time. When settling the bill, the hotel will accept cash only (in Japanese yen). The full amount of the reservation must be paid when checking in. All rates are fixed and cannot be discounted. Andrew (10/5): Amazing stay! Highly recommend! - Lovely Ryokan owners! Very hospitable and friendly! Food was amazing, couldn’t fault anything. Room was spacious, clean and beds were comfortable. Close proximity to the Kyoto station so that was a plus especially when you have baggage. It was a shame we didn’t spend more time here and missed out on using the onsen but would definitely be back again! There being a curfew, whilst understandable but was the only limitation.

The room was big, the beds were comfortable, the facilities (private bath) were very nice and the breakfast was typical, hearty and delicious. We even had the chance to get a lesson of Japanese calligraphy. /
Sherin (4/5): Not worth it ! - The only highlight of this stay was the delicious breakfast. While I had high expectations for this place, the experience was disappointing. I expected a warm, personal ryokan stay, but it felt more like a small hotel managing too many guests for the space. The staff were unfriendly and inflexible about luggage storage and breakfast timings, which affected our travel plans. The rooms were also very small and lacked basic amenities like a bidet and body lotion. Overall, it was not worth the price, especially since we had a far better and more authentic ryokan experience at a different state.

Murray (8/5): Great and authentic home-like stay. - Amazing breakfast. We felt it was like a homestay - we were very looked after and the value for money was superb. Felt like a very authentic experience. There were quite a few rules - including midnight curfew - which led to a bit of stress in evenings to make sure we were back on time. Also the sink area was a bit dusty at higher areas and the mattresses were quite worn.

Theresa (10/5): Herzlich, sauber und bequem- immer wieder gerne! - Ein typisch japanisches Hotel; eigentümergeführt und mit einer unheimlichen Passion und Freundlichkeit geführt. Das Zimmer war sehr bequem und sauber, ein privates Onsen konnte genutzt werden und auch das Frühstück war spitze. In unserem Fall war besonders gut, dass sogar ein veganes Frühstück reserviert werden konnte. Das Hotel ist außerdem super gelegen! Bitte beachten, dass von 0-6 Uhr Nachtsperre gilt und man zu der Zeit im Hotel sein sollte. Wir würden in jedem Fall wieder kommen! Vielen lieben Dank:)

Mirjam (8/5): Al met al een geweldige ervaring. - Heel lieve mensen, leuke ervaring om op een futpn op tatamimatten te slapen. Het dliep best goed! Gebruik van de 'onsen' in hrt hotel zat ook in het arrangement en was ook een bijzondere ervaring. Daarnaast gaf de host ons een korte kalligrafie-workshop. Erg leuk en gastvrij. Het traditionele ontbijt was erg lekker en prachtig verzorgd. Wij hadden gehoopt ook te kunnen dineren en dat het eten (ontbijt/diner) dan ook knielend/zittend op de tatamimatten zou plaatsvinden. Maar voor het ontbijt waren tafels en stoelen en diner bleek niet in het aanbod.

Christopher (10/5): amazing stay - everything "We had an absolutely amazing stay and only wish we had booked for longer! This ryokan is a true gem in Japan and easily the best place we have ever stayed. The atmosphere is incredibly peaceful, and both the onsen and the rooms are so relaxing—we’re leaving feeling completely rejuvenated. The highlight, however, was the staff; they are an amazing, lovely team who made us feel so welcome. Also, the food is spectacular and definitely worthy of a Michelin star. We will definitely be returning for a two-week stay next time nothing

Tutto molto pulito e comodo, il letto è il migliore dove ho dormito nei miei giri. Fanno anche gratuitamente un corso di scrittura dopo colazione ma purtroppo avevo il treno e non ho potuto partecipare. Tenete conto se prenotate qui! Buona e varia la proposta vegana a colazione I proprietari sono una coppia evidentemente non troppo tecnologica quindi, a parte i primi messaggi dopo la conferma della prenotazione, non li hanno più risposto quando chiedevo conferma del mio orario di arrivo. Stavo temendo per il mio pernottamento ma per fortuna all’ultimo giorno mi hanno mandato un messaggio sbagliato ma palesando così la loro esistenza in vita. Questo per dirvi di non preoccuparvi se non vi rispondono.

Jill (9/5): Charming experience - The location is close to the station yet you feel like you’re in a totally different different world. The host although his English is limited was incredibly kind. Bedding and pillow were comfortable. It was easy to book a private onsen. Owners offer kimonos to try on for photo op ( in house only). The last morning after our Japanese breakfast we got a chance to learn calligraphy. We stayed 3 nights and by the third morning I was really getting used to Japanese breakfast! Spending so much time on the floor wears on a + 60 yr old body , but absolutely everyone should experience a ryokan! With the futons on the floor there really wasn’t much space but again that is to be expected in Japan

El ofuro estaba algo viejito, y las instalaciones son algo antiguas, pero lo disfruté mucho y estaba todo muy limpio.

Linda (10/5): - This was such a quaint residence that gave me a great taste of the local culture. The owners were so lovely, helpful, and made my stay here the best part of my trip. They really put their all into hosting. There was a calligraphy workshop on my last day where we were asked what we liked most about Japan and the owners would help us write out a phrase in Japanese. We took pictures together and it took me back to childhood, except my parents weren’t even close to being as excited as they were. I would definitely come back just to see them again.

maria teresa (10/5): Bella esperienza - Atmosfera tranquilla. Ryokan molto curato e pulito. I proprietari sono molto gentili e la stanza è in stile giapponese 😀. A 7 minuti dalla stazione centrale per poter avere tutti i servizi di trasporto della città. Se vi va di camminare, comunque in 25-40 minuti si arriva in molti luoghi di interesse. Usciti dalla stradina del ryokan, inoltre, ci sono molti ristorantini carini -

Farida (10/5): - Tout a été d'exception ! L'accueil du couple, propriétaire des lieux, d'une très grande gentillesse avec le souci de faire découvrir la culture japonaise. La chambre, le lit, la salle de bains, l'onsen, le petit-déjeuner : exceptionnels ! Je n'ai pas eu le sentiment d'être dans une relation commerciale, mais plutôt d'être accueillie par des hôtes bienveillants et attentionnés. Après le petit-déjeuner, nous avons réalisé une initiation à la calligraphie japonaise, tout en simplicité :-) Tout était parfait !

EKATERINA (9/5): I wish I could stay longer than 3 days! - Amazingly beautiful and tasty Japanese Breakfast. Cozy accomodations, pack smart and don't bring huge luggage. Friendly owners. About 10 min walk to Kyoto Station. It's a perfect japanese sleeping arrangements for anyone who is not taller than 5' 10". The blankets may be short for a taller traveler.
Miriam (10/5): Authentic Japanese experience in central but calm location/neighborhood - Ryokan Shimizu was exactly what I had been looking for after traveling with a large group: a calm, traditional ryokan with typical Japanese breakfast. It was the largest room I had during my stay in Japan. Perfectly located within walking distance to Kyoto train station. There was a calm, lovely restaurant just two blocks away with happy hour from 6-8pm. Ryokan Shimizu has several house rules that can at first seem a bit irritating but it was all acceptable and easy to follow. I slept well despite my usual back pain, while the mattress had quite a dent. The towels could have been bigger but were changed daily.

We came to this Ryokan 7 years ago when my husband and I were celebrating our honeymoon, now that we could squeeze in a couple of nights here it was as good as I remember.we even changed a bit of the itinerary just so we could spend more than a night here.<3 A bit hidden, but just remember there are two vending machines outside and it's easy to spot :3

Clemens (10/5): Bester Service seit Langem - Japanische Gastfreundschaft vom Feinsten. Dieses Ryokan kann ich jedem Empfehlen der ein traditionelles japanisches Hotel erleben möchte. Das Personal war über alle Maße zuvorkommend und freundlich. Die Zimmer welche in Japan Standartgröße haben könnten für so manche klein sein. Auch Futonbetten sind nicht für jeden etwas gehören aber zu einem Ryokan wie ein Onsen.

Ylenia (10/5): Esperienza autentica - I proprietari sono gentilissimi: accoglienti, disponibili e davvero attenti. La stanza era piccola ma graziosa e molto curata, e abbiamo dormito divinamente. La colazione vegetariana era abbondante e davvero buona. Abbiamo provato anche l’onsen e ci siamo divertiti tantissimo a partecipare al corso di calligrafia, tenuto da una signora dolcissima messa a disposizione dal ryokan senza alcun costo aggiuntivo. Un’esperienza autentica, rilassante e speciale. Consigliatissimo
Ryan (10/5): Wonderful hosts that give you the warmest welcome to a beautiful Japanese home. Will be back! - Beautiful and traditional. The decor has you scanning the room at all the beautiful decorations and little trinkets. Makes you feel at home very quickly. It’s not the properties fault, but warning to those bringing multiple large suitcases, there isn’t any easy way to bring cases up. But just pack accordingly and enjoy this beautiful house.

El desayuno está bien pero tenga en cuenta que es desayuno japonés 100 % Muy positivo y para AGRADECER, La sonrisa de la señora mayor que pone el desayuno. Una experiencia japonesa total. Nos gustó. Exceso de calefacción en el lobby; pero es sólo al entrar. Por tanto no es negativo, sólo un comentario. Hay que subir escalones, tener en cuenta para personas con limitaciones y para jóvenes LEER antes de reservar. A la medianoche hay que estar dentro del ryokan.
