- Nathan (10/5): - Staff were very kind. Free breakfast was nice! They also replenished my towels & left them at my door without me even asking, which was nice. My only complaint was that it could’ve been a little bit cleaner. The bed runner on my bed as well as the carpet had multiple visible stains. The walls were also marked up a bit. However, other than that, everything seemed fairly clean.

- raisa (10/5): - So glad we stayed at this gem for our brief visit in Kyoto. I have no regrets except for that we didn’t stay longer! Hosts were so incredibly kind from the moment we checked in until we left. We arrive a few hours early and they let us check in early. Our room was the biggest we stayed in out of all accommodations in Japan. The bed was comfortable and the amenities were so thoughtful and useful. They provide pajamas and they were so soft and comfy! Location was perfect too. Right in the Gion district, but tucked away in a quiet street that felt like you were out of the hustle and noise. There’s a sweet potato cafe around the corner that we frequented and a 7/11 up the street. Highly recommend staying here over all the other chain and fancy hotels. Thank you for having us and making our last nights in Japan so warm and inviting!

Customer service not particularly great. Coffee in the machine in the room was good. Bathroom was very noisy.

The complimentary breakfast was subpar but still good for a quick snack to start your day. The location was great, just minutes from busy areas, but in a very quiet location - across the street from a shrine/temple! Had a great time here and would return!

- John (10/5): Great value hotel on a quiet street - This is a small hotel on a quiet street in a historic part of Kyoto. The rooms are nice and clean and the beds are western style. The staff are friendly and helpful, even booking us reservations at a restaurant. The breakfast is not fancy- mainly packaged pastries and juice. However, the hotel is a great value, a great location, and the staff go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. If I come to Kyoto again, I will stay here.

It has everything... - perfect location, so you can walk to the main streets easily and have a lot of food options around; - nice staff (although they don't speak much English, like anywhere in Japan, so you should use Google translate) - room interior is very nice, they even put rice windows from the inside, which helps with isolation plus it looks great. The only thing to improve here is that they could put a big mirror on one of the walls (so you can see your whole reflection, and it would visually enlarge the room) - amenities are great in general! they have coffee and pillow menu to choose from, at display on the reception - they have clever safe deposit box system at the reception, where you put your own codes - breakfast is small but very nice and they change it every morning. It is just pastries and coffee/tea, like you would get in a mini-market

They even put your luggage in your room for you if you leave your luggage with them early! They also offer to call restaurants for reservations since that's a big problem for travellers in Japan. The hotel itself is a bit far from Kyoto station, but close to another station (which have less lines). It's also EXTREMELY close to many temples, you can probable spend a week just checking out the Gion area.

- FRANCISCO (8/5): - The staff was super friendly and they had some very good recommendations for food around the area. The hotel is located 10 min walk from many bars and restaurants and from tourist attractions. The hotel was clean and amenities were good in general. While there were no safes in the room they did have some in the lobby easy to access and right in front of the front desk. Only bad thing was the breakfast offered. The bread was stale and it looked as if it had been there for a week, other than the bread there was nothing and juice was offered in juice boxes.
- Harry (8/5): - First, the location is excellent. In the Gion district, an easy walk from beautiful historic temples shrines and streets. Numerous good nearby restaurants. The room was tiny, but one expects that in Japan. Staff was helpful and friendly enough. The only downside was the free "breakfast". Hardly worthy of the name. Several types of bread rolls, a choice of juicebox, and horrible instant coffee (much better coffee in the room). Margarine and jam to go on the rolls, but you are expected to spread it with a coffee stirring stick (!). Almost worthless as a breakfast. Fortunately we found a nearby grocery store (Fresco) from which we could stock our tiny in-room fridge with yogurt and fresh fruits as well as some dinner meals. So recommended overall with that qualification.

I was so glad we decided to stay in this neighborhood, as it was close to many of the tourist spots I wanted to visit, within walking distance to convenience stores, restaurants/shops, and even a laundromat. The staff was extremely helpful, providing directions and calling us cabs with pleasure. The rooms I booked were small, though, so if you have 3 visitors, you may want to look for larger rooms or split the party. Aside from that, I noticed the rooms were also exceedlngly clean. 10/10!
- Matt (10/5): - This is a fabulous hotel in a perfect location in Kyoto. Getting to the hotel from Kyoto Station by bus is very simply and quick and the bus stops only minutes from the hotel. The area arround the hotel is simply stunning to walk about and feels like the set of a Movie. I just loved the area of this hotel and it was only a short walk into the main area of Kyoto. The hotel is lovely, the staff were very helpful and the rooms are of a very good size for Japan. Very nice local touches to the room and everything you need for your stay. The room has a fridge and a pod coffee maker where various kinds are available free in the reception along with other things you may need like cloths and toothbrushes. I couldn’t fault the hotel in any way it’s a lovely place to stay in a lovely area of Kyoto Gion.
- Xiaohui (10/5): - We had a great experience with this hotel, it's in the heart of Gion but on a quiet street, convenient walking distrance to restaurants, shines and conveniet stores. Only less than 5 minutes walk from the Gion center. The room was super clean, we had the room service every other day. All staff I met spoke good English and very friendly. I didn't get the name from the front desk guy, he was nice and let me check in early since the room was available, and the other gal I spoke to in the morning I think her name was Yuni (not quite sure), overall we were really happy with this hotel, but if a family of 4, it would be a little too crowded. But I definetely recommend this hotel!

- Cody (10/5): - My stay here was truly amazing, it's really close to the Gion train station and there is so many walkable places for tourists to enjoy. They also provide guests maps that show where great places to eat, tourists attractions and more. They best part was that they overcharged me 300 Yen for the accommodation tax (I didn't even realize) and fixed it for me without me even asking, truly amazing as I would have never known otherwise. If you are looking for a great place to stay while you're in Kyoto, look no further than this place, 10/10!

- Bruce (10/5): - Kyoto Inn Gion the Second is a lovely hotel located such that a number of iconic Kyoto sightseeing highlights are within ready walking distance. Located in the Gion sector, the whole area exudes an old world Japanese feel. The hotel staff were welcoming, helpful and always pleasant to deal with. The room we stayed in was surprisingly large (for Japan) and provided all the basic amenities. Our only 'complaint' about this hotel, is that it really requires a taxi or use of the bus for easy transport of luggage. We chose to use the subway/train system (and whilst doable) would not like to try it in wet weather. The crowded main street was tricky enough to navigate when we left.

The hotel was quiet at night and they give you free bottles of water, cookies and maps. Shower bath had great Temperature and water pressure but they didn’t replace amenities which surprised us. We were very happy with our stay.

From providing umbrellas when it was raining to hot packs for our hands when it was chilly to holding our luggage before and after we checked in - the service was top notch! Rooms were clean and the bed was comfy they even had memory foam pillows. Overall very pleased and we will be back!

- Verified traveler (10/5): - All staff were very nice and friendly. Since it was my birthday when we were in Kyoto, the hotel staff even gave me a present. That was lovely. The breakfast in the hotel was very good. I especially like the Japanese theme breakfast. When the evening staff learned that we had an early start the next day, he called someone and the next morning we had a breakfast sandwich to go (delicious egg sandwiches). (By the way egg sandwiches is the best in Japan - even 7Eleven stores, Family Mart and Lawson.) The staff really go out of their way to help you. I am sorry I don't remember his name, but he wears glasses. I woke up early one day since I would like to go to Hokanji Temple while there were no tourists around which was a walking distance from the hotel. He suggested that I walked to Koshoji Temple since I was heading in that direction anyway and at 6 a.m. it was opened. Great suggestion. The view of the Kyoto was breathtaking from this temple. This hotel has a great location and price. Definitely I will stay her with my family again no question about it. Keep up the good work and thanks a lot for a lovelier stay in your hotel. I hope you will still keep your prices low so I can stay in your hotel again.
- Karen (10/5): Fabulous stay and great location - We booked the property on the day we stayed. What an excellent find, the location was perfect in Gion. The room had bath facilities which also had toothbrushes, razors, all shampoo and conditioner which really helped us as we did an unexpected stop off. There was a hairdryer, air conditioning and kettle. The staff were friendly, polite and welcoming they advised us where to eat and it was amazing food. Kyoto is fascinating we saw a few geisha and a must is the Golden Palace. If you love clothes shopping you will love here and also Nishi Market. We had a continental breakfast which was more than enough. I can not recommend here highly enough.

- Frederick (10/5): Overnight in Kyoto (Gion district) - Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Location of the hotel was excellent and in a very quiet alley. Rooms were very clean and surprisingly large compared to rooms in APA Hotels which we stayed at in Osaka.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were so friendly. We had everything we needed for our family. The room was bigger than most places in Kyoto or Tokyo. It was very hard to find at first but once we found the hotel it was easy to locate and close to everything we needed. Will definitely stay there again!

- JPowers (10/5): - Although the room didn't have a special view, the shoji screen coverings lent to the feel that you were in old Japan. If you opened the screen and then the window, you could see tiled roofs and a little shrine and the air was fresh. The decor of the room was perfect so that eventhough the room was small by American standards, it was a room to enjoy and feel comfortable in. Best of all were the staff who were absolutely wonderful and who never failed to help answer our questions even if they required some internet searching.

- Russell (8/5): Lovely small Kyoto hotel - Aside from the room being small and bathroom smaller the hotel was great. Service excellent, the breakfast was very good and the people were very friendly. We asked for help getting around and recommendations for places to go and they were extremely helpful. We also loved the the location. It was walking distance to shopping, restaurants, many temples and the bus and trains. If we ever get back to Kyoto we will definitely stay here again!

- JAC (10/5): - The size of the bedroom was brilliant! Easily one of the largest we had in Japan! The location is really really close to Gion corner (just 5 mins walk and you can try spotting geikos and maikos! We were lucky and managed to see 6 on our trip). It is located in a very peaceful street right next to the Yasui Shrine (where people crawl through a hole in the rock to pray for smooth sailing love life). It is a good place to explore Kyoto from as we can walk to the shopping area from here (15 mins walk). The hotel staff are also very helpful!
- Okori (10/5): Great place to stay in Gion - Stayed here for two nights with my teenage son. This place is a little gem in the middle of Gion, with friendly staff, and located a walking distance from Kiyomizu temple, Yasaka shrine, Gion corner, etc. The rooms were cleaned daily, beds where comfortable, the room even had a cute Japanese corner (pictured). Breakfast was good but could use some more options.

- Jean (10/5): Lovely hotel with excellent front desk staff - Wonderful, helpful staff! The front desk staff make this hotel truly exceptional. They were so friendly and gave excellent, helpful advice. Also, in their free time, they fold origami that they give free to the kids. (Including cute Pikachu origami!) The rooms were clean with lovely decor as well as being the most spacious of the hotels we stayed in while in Japan. The breakfast was free and delicious. It was not a buffet, but rather a choice between A or B plates which were slightly different each day. The hotel location is great. It’s in a quiet alley that is still right near lots of attractions and local action. It’s worth mentioning, though, that some taxi’s will drive down the alley, but other’s won’t. We liked this hotel very much.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I stayed 8 nights at Kyoto Inn Gion the Second because I didn't want to travel with all of my luggage. Kyoto is a wonderful location to visit and also a perfect location to get to Nara, Osaka and even Hiroshima. Although the inn isn't close to Kyoto Station, it is a 1 minute walk to the bus that goes directly there in about 15 minutes. The Inn itself is clean, comfortable and quite spacious (although the bathroom is quite small so if you are two it would be difficult to share at the same time). The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included. It was very good but they offer pretty much the same two things each morning so after 8 days, I was looking forward to a change. Overall I would highly recommend Kyoto Inn Gion the Second. Great location, nice and quiet, comfy room and a perfect place to stay when visiting Kyoto and the surrounding area.

As a family of four, we had two interconnecting rooms at a price much more affordable than other properties only offering one room - also a delicious breakfast was included!! I would personally like to thank the staff here, as they went above and beyond the call of duty. Our son lost his plush toy in the room. Within a week of returning home to Australia, the toy arrived safely (and beautifully packaged) to our home address. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! We cannot wait to go back!
