Guest Reviews
- Leanne (8/5): -
- Lucy (8/5): Lovely stay but would maybe avoid a weekend if possible - The room was beautiful, the staff were so friendly and attentive and the food was amazing. Even having the music playing in the room on arrival was a nice little touch. Loved the venue. The only downside was that it was so nice that when we returned from the wedding we were attending we came back to bouncers on the door and a very loud crowd which we could hear in our room till late. Although it surprised us we accept it is a very pub and so it’s to be expected that it would be busy. It was just a bit too loud and busy and kept us awake for awhile. The place was lovely though.
- Michelle (10/5): Top class - Breakfast was excellent, staff so helpful. Accommodated an early check which was very much appreciated
- Josh (10/5): Best traditions of English coaching inn hospitality with cracking food and beautiful meadows - Service excellent, rooms gorgeous. Food delicious, true hospitality at its best.
- Gary (9/5): good stay, one to remember when in the area - nice room, great food and a good beer nothing
- Jacqueline (10/5): Beautiful re-furbished hotel in the heart of Ampthill. - Beautiful re-furbished hotel. Very friendly staff, who couldn't do enough. Very tasty breakfast. Bar was extremely busy in the evening, but was a Saturday night, so was to be expected.
- Steve (10/5): Fabulous -
- Josh (10/5): Best Hospitality in years with gorgeous rooms and fab food. - Great service and beautiful rooms
- Nigel (7/5): Nice stay - I should have researched more carefully re the noise - Good facilities
Nice staff
Lovely period building Noisy bar area
Would have eaten in the restaurant but the hubbub was too much.
I’m older and the clientele were predominantly young and loud.
- RICHARD (10/5): - Excellent service, great food , lovely staff
- Paula (10/5): -
- Douglas (9/5): -
- LAURA D. (10/5): EXCEPTIONAL - LA HABITACION DE y el ensuite la ducha es genial Todo estaba perfecto, maybe the breakfast which was.
- Bridget (10/5): Gem of a place - Beautifully updated. High-quality rooms with great bathrooms, L'Occitaine toiletries. Retaining the period aspect of the building. Staff super friendly and helpful and clearly a firm favourite for locals in the evening. The bar was positively humming! Breakfast was excellent with some of the best scrambled eggs ever! A really wonderful stay. Thank you. Sadly.no dedicated car park, but public Ringo one very close by.
- Natalie (9/5): Most enjoyable. Bedding and bed was lovely - Checking in was a bit chaotic as a busy pub but no real issue. The room was immaculate, spacious and very comfortable.
Breakfast was delicious. We wasn't informed of breakfast times on checking in, was a bit worried getting back late due to the pub closing so had to make sure we was back by 11.00pm
- Beatson (10/5): Spot on. One of the best places have stopped in for a goodly while. Some nice touches too. - Am a rep and travel alot. The detail was spot on, especially for the price we paid. Just referb'd, very comfortable, top brekkie. Spot on. Erm, genuinely struggle to think of anything negative.
- Philip (4/5): Poor - It was clean Heaters not working in the room
Went for breakfast at 7:25am had still not received my breakfast by 8am and had to leave for a meeting
The night before they forgot us when waiting for food
Paying took my details twice my colleagues twice then took payment off his account only we wanted to pay per room separately very poor
- Jane (9/5): Great hotel very central. helpful staff . - The breakfast was super excellent choice available quality ingredients . Light lunch available didn’t have the opportunity to have dinner on this occasion but menu looked great. All staff very helpful and friendly. Newly refurbished to a high standard retaining important heritage features with modern comfort in bedrooms. Excellent central location. Large garden area. Would definitely recommend. Due to the age of the building a lift was not available so would have to be reasonably mobile to cope with the stairs . Usually look for somewhere with its own car park but easily parked almost next door in small paying car park.
- Robert (10/5): Perfect - Ideally situated Ver clean and comfortable
- Rebecca (10/5): Perfect staycation - Didn't know what to expect as never stayed in the area. I was very happy with everything about my stay, will definitely be returning
- Laraine (8/5): Better than expected overall. - The room had clearly just be refurbished and was in excellent condition. There was a Nespresso coffee machine which was a bonus. All the furnishings were very tasteful. Staff were good and friendly. Our room, number 2 was directly over the bar. This made it pretty noisy but the main problem was that the radio appeared to be on all night!
- Richard (5/5): - Some young staff who had far more courtesty and understanding than their manager. The stay was spoilt by the first interaction, which is your first impression. The manager who greeted us was totally negative. We had already requested an early check in (And paid for the priveledge) as we were attending a family wedding, only to be told that the early check in meant 2.00pm not 3.0pm. Our wedding was 1.45pm. We were however offered a disabled toilet to get changed in. However we returned at 12.00 and our room miraculousy was ready for us but we did,nt need negativty having just driven 200 miles.
- Helen (10/5): As good as any 5* hotel in the UK - As good, if not better than any 5* hotel in the UK. They have recently updated the property and done it exceptionally well. There isn't any parking, however there is a cheap public carpark next door to the hotel, which uses an app on your phone. £10 for 24hrs.
- Philip (8/5): -
- Beverley (10/5): Great - Very happy with our stay Nothing
- Richard (10/5): -
- Mitchell (10/5): Amazing night away, already looking to book again. - Greatvplace to meet friends and have a drink and some food, booked a toom that has recently been updated, a great job by all the team there. Parking was not subsidised
- Niek (9/5): - The hotel was very nice, nice breakfast, good atmosphere in the bar in the evening. Nice staff. Rooms very clean and nice. All with all really recommending this hotel if you travel or just would like to have a nice stay in that area.
- Joanna (10/5): Gem in the heart of the village - We went on opening weekend following a refurbishment, the hotel looked amazing. Everything in the room was new and we felt very privileged to be part of the excitement. The location is right in the middle of the village and parking is very close by. Most of all the staff were just wonderful, all of them made us feel at home and were really attentive, they were all very friendly. Everything! Surroundings, bedroom, location, staff and facilities.
- Michelle (10/5): perfect - Breakfast was freshly cooked and was delicious
- King (10/5): Love Ampthill , love the White Hart great atmosphere excellent friendly staff - Great staff always looked after me
Great location
Good food and beer Very low roof in room , at 6,5 it was a head hitting time on occasions
- Lindsey (7/5): Great location in Ampthill - Great location, right in the middle of Ampthill. Friendly staff and the meal that we had there was excellent, as was the breakfast the following morning. We had a free upgradge by Booking.com so the room was very spacious and clean. Maybe because it was a Saturday night, the music from the pub downstairs could be heard loudly in our room above, and it was noisy on the street at closing time as our room was at the front.
- Serena (9/5): Great, friendly place to stay. - Table service at breakfast and great choice all included in the rate. Room was a little dark and could do with a refurb. Bathroom window needs a blind.
- Sean (9/5): -
- 993beckieb (2/5): This hotel is tired, run down, and one ⭐️ at best. - This hotel is GRIM. Small uncomfortable bed. Paintwork very chipped and tired. Both th bedroom and bathroom were dirty. TV didn’t work. Staines on the carpet. Staying for a funeral the following day. If we could have left we would have.
- James (6/5): -
- Clas Göran (8/5): -
- Simon (9/5): A very comfortable, pleasant stay in an outstanding historic building - Comfortable, quiet room, although a bit short of furniture (no drawers, only one chair). Excellent service from all staff. Very good breakfasts, and excellent dinner. Convenient free car parking.
- Danny (7/5): Quaint charming location but too expensive - Great location, hotel has a lot of old world charm. Couldn’t get back in when we returned after our night out! Place was locked up with a wedding reception taking place - they wouldn’t let us in! Only managed to enter when someone left!
- Katherine (8/5): - Good location, lovely building and room, staff were excellent. The air con in one of the rooms didn’t work well at all and window couldn’t be opened over a heatwave weekend, so it was extremely hot at night. The staff however were great and tried to fix it several times, eventually bringing an industrial fan to the room which helped!
- ali (7/5): Close to where we live.had no choice to stay there because we had a wedding there. - Old building which had character. We stayed there for the night.
Room was old and paint was peeling from the walls and not all that clean.
- Malcolm (10/5): - Really helps and friendly staff. Lots of history
- Mohammad Ali (8/5): -
- Lindsay (1/5): Absolutely filthy rooms and inadequate facilities - Not much List is too long
- Beverley (5/5): Family wedding staff were great - We went to a wedding the venue was a nice set up The bed rooms were absolutely filthy !!!!!!classed as deluxe never seen deluxe.
- Edward (8/5): -
- david (10/5): Brilliant - THE SERVICE WAS EXEMPLARY EVERYONE WAS SO HELPFUL . Food was good and served promptly .Assistance to get luggage to room and to exit the next morning was so very helpful Wish there had been a car park
- Joanne (7/5): Mark was exceptionally helpful and cheerful. - Breakfast and dinner. Excellent staff and food Sadly sunday evening we couldn't persuade them to wait an extra 15 minutes before they closed the kitchen
- Stella (8/5): A good base for our visit for funeral only downside was no parking - Friendly and helpful staff
Quaint decor
Historic No parking
- Anne-Marie (8/5): - First time staying at this hotel and the experience was ok. It’s a shame there is no car park attached.
- John (3/5): Needs complete upgrade ! - Breakfast and location good Bulb in bedroom not working . Hard to know if carpets were clean due to dark colour ; hole in the wall ; toilet flush inconsistent ; half rolls of toilet paper ; WiFi inconsistent ; curtains didn’t block out light ; ‘old fashioned ‘ 60’s room and fittings ; very steep stairs stairs to bedroom :
- Robledo1945 (6/5): Upgrade very bably needed immediately ! - Room similar to bedroom in most countries in the 60’s . Hole in the wall ; dirty shower filling on walls & floor ; bulb not working over bed light ; toilet flush works sometimes ; inconsistent wifi signal; certainly need to be active to go up the many small stairs ; small toilet entry and exit is at a height that’s guaranteed to give you a sharp ‘ bang’ no warning sign ).
- Carl (9/5): Superb -
- Una (6/5): A pleasant stay spoilt by a feeling that room needs more cleaning time. - Original features were great. A real sense of history. Such an old building. There was dust on all the open clothes shelves and Dust on the fire hearth. The bathroom needs a lick of paint to cover flaking parts. More hangers needed.
- Hilton (8/5): Very good - The staff were very helpful and accommodating.
Food was very good
Bedroom was of a large space, ensuite was nice and modern. Air conditioning was not great, had to have a mobile cooling unit put in the room.
Stairs to room quite steep.
- Stephen (9/5): Great location and an excellent place to stay! Air cows a must with these very hot conditions during the night ! - Clean and modern and staff very attentive! Room did not have air conditioning working
- Philip (10/5): - Great hotel
- Doug (2/5): The stay was marred by a poorly maintained, hot and really dusty room. - Location. Food in restaurant was good. Room was tired, dirty, poorly maintained and very hot.
- Jarmila (6/5): Busy location with a bar so plan accordingly. - Nice options for breakfast including a variety of smoothies. Good size room and bathroom. We were right above the bar and because it was a nice evening it didn't quiet down until 12:30. Long night of listening to music and people talking. It taught me to be more cautious about hotels with bars.
- Tom (7/5): Good - Toilet flush was inconsistent, sometimes it worked , other times it did not. Property was probably an old coaching house, dating back many years. Stairs were steep for Seniors and access to bedroom not straightforward. Shouldn’t really moan , the antiquity should relished by younger visitors
- Mark (8/5): Good location , lovely pub and good , no free car park - Very quaint good rooms
Garden area Noisy from general public in bar , very busy
- Navigator18751688651 (10/5): Night Stay - Great place and quiet with amazing service evenbtheough locate innthe high street.
Food and drink was amazing.
Coffee machine was a bonus for us.
- X (6/5): Great food but uncomfortable bed - Great food and wine/cocktails. Sunday roast and breakfast the next morning made the trip to the hotel worthwhile. 1. Mattress was incredibly uncomfortable. Did not sleep well at all.
2. Steep stairs up to the room. Problematic for small children or people with disabilities.
3. The energy in the BB section, upstairs outside of the pub area, was 'creepy' . We didn't see anything during the night but would not have stayed alone.
- Dean (8/5): Very good -
- Sheila (9/5): A really relaxing night's rest in a well-equipped room. - A fabulous location right in the centre of this historic town. The White Hart is a former coaching inn with a wonderful wall painting dating from 1636. We stayed one night after attending a party at the hotel. We had a huge full English breakfast eaten sitting in the sun
on the balcony overlooking their courtyard above the former stables which is now a lovely function room.
The staff are friendly and helpful. The en-suite room was full of character with exposed beams and the bef was very comfortable. Air conditioning was very welcome on a hot night. The huge free standing mirror in the room needs to be fixed to the wall. As it is a family room a child could pull it on top of themselves as has happened recently in a well publicised incident in a different location.
- Diane (8/5): A good location - Our stay was really good apart from 2 things - we had a few problems with WiFi, losing connection from time to time.
We were unaware that the hotel had no dedicated parking, and that it would cost us £10 to park nearby for a day
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- curlyclairep (6/5): Bit noisy if you are looking for a romantic getaway - So much potential but attention to detail lets it down (we stayed in room 4).... black mould on bathroom tiles and decor in bathroom looking very tired in places - damp patch on bedroom ceiling looks like it has had a fix, but again - lack of attention to detail lets it down.
Housekeeping made a nice job of the bed and towels and linen was good.
Only 1 dim bedside lamp and lamp on desk not much brighter. No shelf by bath for toiletries or a glass of fizz ( come on guys - if you are going to the trouble of putting in a lovely bath - think about how someone is going to use it)
The main issue was we stayed 2 nights and first night there was a party and second were several weddings. Room 4 is over the bar and VERY noisy up until midnight so if you are part of the party/wedding not so bad but if you are on a romantic weekend break - this is NOT for you.
Staff we dealt with seemed nice. Breakfast (full English) pretty good.
- Deborah (10/5): Perfect for my purpose - Very well organised and friendly, I was attending a wake.
- Gary (8/5): Very good - A 1 night stay to meet local family, we had a lovely evening meal served with a smile. Staff were helpful and friendly. Good breakfast in the morning. The room was spacious although as mentioned in previous comments there was still a little dust around various places, mirror, radio alarm and the tv remote needed a good clean. Some small minor housekeeping issues could be fixed to make this a perfect stay.
- Linda (8/5): A bit too expensive for the small room we got - Nice and central
Restaurant served nice meals
Breakfast was decent
The staff were very pleasant. No parking
Room and bathroom were quite tired , needs a refresh. Air con not working ( for heat )
- Warhol (3/5): Not at all a quiet country pub, with access and cleanliness problems. - Food was okay and all the staff we encountered were nice. We thought this would be a quiet pub in a small village, but it was quite a large party pub with very noisy and drunk customers until 12:30am in the morning. The windows in our room over the courtyard did not fully close and did not block out any noise so there was very little sleep. Access to family room is up very steep stairs & has an internal door of only 1.5m high (dangerous for any adult) and several steps down to the bathroom. Would be better suited to storage space than as a guest bedroom. Difficult to get in and out of bath/shower without banging head on eaves. A lot of dusty surfaces in the room and there were used contact lenses on the floor, which didn't seem to have been hoovered. There was also damage to the wall by the sofa bed which we have since seen in photos from other reviewers 11 months ago - this could've easily been painted over if the owners had cared about their appearance. The room had a musty damp spell as well. Evening meal was quite good but we had to be shepherded past a fist fight on the way to our table ! Overall, it was very disappointing and way over priced considering the experience we had.
- Colette (10/5): A lovely overnight stopover - Service, quality of rooms and breakfast/meal options NA
- sherenh2014 (6/5): Badly maintained - Stayed at hotel to attend an event and booked the room months before. I loved the character of the room, well equipped with iron, hairdryer, straighteners, tea, coffee and water, shampoo, lotions but no conditioner, these were not refilled for our use but……it was very poorly maintained, broken toilet seat, chipped walls, dirty floors, and old furniture, noisy road at the front and noisy courtyard at the back and all for a premium price of £185.00.
We did have a nice lunch in the bar and staff were very friendly which I would return too, but I would not stay at the hotel again for that price which I believe was increased due to the event.
- Craig (9/5): Absolutely stunning food, huge portions and beautiful surroundings. - Possibly the most comfortable bed and pillows ever. Shower was great and the quirky building was cool. Food stunning and soo much. Staff helpful and friendly. Only negative was the room could have done with a serious dust, it was like a museum, weird because it was clean but like it hadn’t been used in years!! Bedding was super clean though so very strange!
- Gallagher (8/5): Ideal for our short stay after a party in the same venue - Comfortable and good food No cerials at breakfast
- BRENDAN (8/5): 4 night stay with family - Pros: Great location if you’re visiting / doing business in Ampthill. Great food and drinks downstairs. The staff were always friendly, helpful and welcoming.
Cons: no on premise parking. Closest parking is a municipal lot…10 pounds for 24 hours. When I checked in my room was made up as 2 singles instead of a double as requested. Beds were a tad small & uncomfortable. Walls are thin, I could hear my neighbors “chatting” until midnight the night before I was planning on checking out.
Otherwise it was a great stay
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Pete (8/5): Nice cosy place - Cosy hotel, staff were very friendly
- Bob (9/5): Superb - Great food, comfortable room, central and friendly professional staff, Lack of parking
- Toby (10/5): Nice old pub - Nice old pub Nothing
- Deborah (10/5): Perfect - The staff were really lovely and friendly and helpful
- Gayle (10/5): Exceptional -
- William (6/5): Mr - Stayed because I was visiting friends
- Svein (7/5): Good -
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Karen (8/5): It was very good and very central to the town.Staff were very nice. - Location was excellent. Breakfast was very good I chose the Full breakfast which was very good. We stayed in Room 7 the lock on the door was a little tricky to unlock. Also alot of stairs up to the room if we return we will stay in a lower room.
- Joanna (10/5): A wonderful stay - Beautiful room, amazing shower and comfy beds! Nothing, all was great 👍
- Raimundas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): Great location. - Great place to stay. Staff Friday evening into Saturday morning couldn’t have been nicer. Well located and breakfast was great too
- David (9/5): Very happy with our stay we would have liked to stay longer to visit the town. - Very old inn. Very good food and friendly staff. Heating unit in the bedroom not working but a oil filled radiator was in the cupboard. so not a major problem.
- Hayley (5/5): Meh - There was entertainment as in a loud disco on the Saturday evening which made it impossible to sleep. We had to head out and even locals were complaining. This should have been confirmed that noise and a late night could be expected when booking Noise and the room was very cold.
- Joseph (8/5): Very good - I really enjoyed my stay, this is a charming site and a good location. The staff were very friendly and helpful as well. It was fun to stay in a place with so much history, too--a mural from 1646 above the fireplace in the dining room! I had two very nice meals, with lovely service, in the restaurant as well. I would certainly stay here again if the opportunity to be in Ampthill presented itself again. I don't mind most features of an old building--for me the occasional low ceiling and uneven floor just adds to the charm. However, I will say that my room (#8) was fairly drafty, especially the bathroom (my stay was in November). I was still quite happy with my stay--I would stay here again--but very glad that I'd brought thick socks!
- Glenice (10/5): - Excellent stay but property looks tired. Needs carpets cleaning but otherwise lovely stay
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Maureen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joyce (8/5): We would be very happy to stay again. - Excellent breakfast service. Hand wash, shampoo and body lotion only, we were expecting at least shower gel.
Coffee maker but no coffee pods and no milk.
- Michelle (8/5): Very good -
- Lee (7/5): Good -
- Jonathan (8/5): Very good -
