- Alvy (9/5): - The house and room are fantastic and very clean, with a daily touch up/clean. Robin and Jane have a splendid set up. The meals are also worth the hype - Robin is a fantastic chef. Nothing - we enjoyed everything
- James (9/5): Fantastic place to stay, and local walks are stunning. Will be booking again for sure - Amazing place to stay with brilliant history. The front room and fire place is so cosy and welcoming. The host is very friendly and such a lovely, welcoming, and interesting person to chat with. Unfortunately we did not take the opportunity to dine at the property which we regret. Check in of 1600hrs was a little late but very minor point.
- Andrew (10/5): - Lovely place, lovely people and great location
- Victoria (10/5): Amazing stay! - Robin & Jane are excellent hosts. Our stay was everything we could have wished for, welcoming hosts, very nice food, stunning property. The bedroom was very nice and clean with amazing furniture and loads of amenities in both the bedroom and the bathroom. There is a warm & comfortable living room downstairs with a stunning fireplace! We will gladly be back in the future!
- Kirsty (10/5): Fabulous - Fabulous!!! We had the most wonderful stay at this beautiful ancient farmhouse. Robin and his wife were lovely, both so welcoming. The breakfast on both mornings were absolutely delicious, with our evenings spent reading in front of the open fire after two long days of hiking in the beautiful countryside before sleeping in the most comfortable 4 poster bed. We couldn’t recommend this place enough, and plan to go back for another wonderful stay in the new year. Absolutely nothing
- Victoria (8/5): -
- Harper (10/5): Excellent welcome and excellent food, highly recommended 👌 - The breakfast was outstanding. My husband chose the Welsh breakfast on both mornings as he'd enjoyed it so much . There really was something for everyone and Robin went out of his way to discuss the menu and culinary choices. I didn't see any need for improvement.
- dunbar (10/5): -
- Jane (10/5): Couldn’t have be made more welcome by Robin and Jane - Amazing breakfast, Robin is clearly a talented chef and it was bespoke to how I liked it
- Jonathan (10/5): -
- Charlotte (10/5): I can only say that I wish we stayed more than one night. - The Firecat is nestled in a serene, quiet valley. The sound of the river behind the cottage was a wonderful backdrop to an evening glass of wine outside. An added bonus was the flock of pheasants in the field. The house itself was a perfect step back in time. Although renovated for modern living the patina shows through, centuries of well-worn flagstone floors welcome you, wood panelling exudes a subtle grandness, the staircase takes you back in time, and the fireplace makes you wonder what variety of meals were cooked at its hearth over the centuries. Robin and Jane are wonderful hosts—warm and friendly and passionate about making you feel home away from home. We will be back. The was nothing we disliked about the property.
- Liam (10/5): Cosey, owners were really nice people ! - Everything Nothing
- Rod (7/5): Excellent food and a very friendly host. - Excellent food, but rather more than our usual budget when travelling, so we treated our evening meals there as our forthcoming wedding anniversary meals out! Breakfasts very good - although we didn't try any of cooked options except for porridge. Bed was too soft for one of us - long-term lower back pain. I asked about changing our room (but apparently all beds are the same) and so enquired about a bed-board - not available. So on 2nd night host provided a put-me-up mattress and extra bedding and I slept on the floor. Not satisfactory, but a better sleep than on 1st night. PS The mattresses are NOT old - they're new, but are just too soft for someone who needs a firm bed.
Note that photo of room was taken with 'artistic licence' - room is much smaller than seems in photo.
- jill (10/5): Exceptional B+B /Hotel. Robin and Jane made us feel at home from the minute we arrived . The food cooked by Robin wa - Beautiful property. A little gem hidden in the countryside . Decor exceptional . Comfortable bed and excellent food There was nothing I didnt like
- Adam Hawkeye (10/5): Somewhere over the rainbow... - Isolated. Breakfast. Views. Atmosphere. Age. Food. Staff. Ancient. Surprising. Architecture. Mountains. River. Not staying long enough.
- Joe (10/5): Just fantastic, great food, incredible location, beautiful rooms. - Location is absolutely incredible, our room had a view of the river and grounds, mountains in the background, pheasants strutting around. It was great. Food was really good, you basically have a private chef for the evening. I was well accommodated as a vegetarian. Nothing to not like, really. It is a small house, so you can hear creaking floorboards as people move around. But the place is something like 400 years old, so that is understandable.
- Rask (10/5): An unforgettable experience and amazing food :-) - An unforgettable experience
My friend and I had the pleasure of staying with Robin and Jane at their wonderful B&B for 3 days – and it was nothing less than magical. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth, kindness and a hospitality that went straight to our hearts.
The place is located in the most idyllic setting, surrounded by majestic mountains and a small river. And when we arrived, we instantly fell in love with The Firecat. And we had not even met Jane, Robin and his amazing food yet. Every morning we were spoiled with the most delicious breakfast, far beyond what we had expected – homemade, flavorful and served with love and pride.
In the evening, Robin worked his magic in the kitchen and served gourmet meals that invited all of our taste buds to the party. His creativity and ability to present the food beautifully and invitingly was impressive, and the quality was absolutely top class. It was clear, why he has won awards – it was a taste experience beyond the ordinary. And it was served with an intelligent and humorous conversation regarding cooking and countless other topics. The fireplace and candles created the perfect atmosphere.
We can highly recommend a stay with Robin and Jane. It's not just a place to stay – it's an experience you take home with you in your heart. When we left them, we felt that we said goodbye to our friends - not strangers, we had only known for 3 days.
Thank you Jane and Robin. We will meet again. That we couldn't stay for longer :-)

- Cathryn (10/5): - Beautiful house with great hosts the food was impeccable.
- Chris (10/5): An excellent base for a wedding anniversary break. - Great character, 500-600 years old, very comfortable with all amenities. Nothing
- Per (9/5): Super cool off the road place to stay. - Great setting country side.
Breakfast Welsh fantastic
Good pub walking distance to have some eat and a beer.
Fantastic library to sit down by the fireplace and choose from. Nothing really, all good.
Feels like a great hideout of two persons who survived the Kathmandu trips in the 90-s, and did well.
- Giuliana (9/5): - A beautiful place to relax in the silence of the nature, only noise is the sing of the birds. The owners Robin and Jane are very friendly. Robin is a great chef, his breakfast are delicious and Jane likes to chat pleasantly with guests. We have had a good time, thank you Robin and Jane! Rare wifi connection
- Jayne (10/5): Tranquil place to stay - Robin and Jane were fantastic hosts, they were very friendly and attentive, we got on very well with them having a laugh and a joke and they were very knowledgeable. The breakfast was fantastic and the bed was amazingly comfortable. The property had a lot of history and original features, we would definitely go back, we have also recommended to our family and friends. The grounds and surrounding area is fantastic and very relaxing. N/A
- tomsterckx (10/5): - Excellent! Nothing
- Clare (10/5): - Full of character
- brian (10/5): Comfortable and laid back . Hosts are perfect. - Room with spacious and luxury fittings. Shower exeptional. Food top quality all expectations met . It is a cosy guest house with 3 rooms .
- Réjane (10/5): Magnifique emplacement. - Très jolie chambre, belle décoration ancienne, confortable. Emplacement exceptionnel, en pleine campagne, au bord d'une rivière. Bon petit-déjeuner. Rien. Tout était très bien.
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional - very friendly and helpful owners.. Happy to help with anything you need nothing
- Janet (9/5): Lovely hosts, fantastic location and superb food! - The breakfast was superb, all locally sourced and freshly cooked.
The bedroom had a large four poster which did take a large proportion of the room, but it was extremely comfortable and we slept very well.
The hosts were very friendly and made us all feel very welcome. The location was amazing, we couldn't have asked for more, the views were stunning, and a great location for the Mach Loop! The only thing that would have improved our stay would have been a table available in the evenings to enable us to play a board game comfortably.
- Adrian (9/5): Superb -
- Dora (8/5): Very good - The area was lovely, very unspoiled and quiet. The house was also lovely - old and quaint.
When we arrived we asked for earl grey tea for breakfast and whilst there wasn't any in our room, Robin was very quick to supply it. Lovely to have a little fridge with fresh milk in the room.
Wonderfully cooked breakfast, friendly and kind hosts.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Very warm welcoming hosts. Great breakfasts and the fine dining meals we had were so delicious. Very clean comfortable room.
- Emily (10/5): Wonderful property, fabulous hosts! - The property is the picture of Welsh tranquility that we were looking for. Robin and Jane were incredibly welcoming. We have not stayed in a guesthouse like this before so we’re unsure what to expect but we had the benefit of both our own privacy and a wonderful team on hand whenever we needed them. Robin is an incredible chef if you book to have dinner there, the rooms are delightful and the beds are very comfy. The little garden with views of the river and across the valley was also a lovely surprise. It’s a must visit. We will be back! Nothing
- J (9/5): Superb -
- Trotman (7/5): good, safe and clean - food was very good would like to be a little more anonymous
- Melinda (10/5): Extraordinary in all respects! - The food was exceptional!! Not only excellent in taste but also in presentation! Plus one of, if not the best, vegetarian meals I’ve ever had. Loved everything
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - Excellent hosts ,clean, comfy bed and great food
- Debbie (9/5): A peaceful break in peaceful historic home. - A beautiful location amidst the hills with a river at the valley bottom. This historic farmhouse is sympathetically renovated with appropriate furniture, including a very comfortable 4 poster bed. The hosts were welcoming and friendly and happy to share the story of the house. Breakfast was exceptional and tailored to the individual. A wonderfully peaceful break . Almost nothing! A softer bedroom chair would be a bonus for aching joints.
- Jordan (10/5): Don’t miss out on this hidden gem. - What an amazing spot, quiet, lovely hosts to accommodated us at such short notice, and quite possibly some of the nicest food I’ve ever had.
They couldn’t do enough to help us, if you’re on the fence and you see this review, please go for this place.
And definitely try and have some of the amazing food, the owner is too humble but there’s some crazy awards for the scran they do.
Thanks for everything, will be back.
- Elaine (10/5): Beautiful scenery, wonderful house, and superlative dining - just wish we could give 12/10!! - This place was an absolute treasure of a find - the house is gorgeous, beautifully renovated without removing any of the ancient character of the building, and Robin and Jane, the hosts, are so friendly and welcoming. Our bedroom was a dream, with a fabulous four-poster bed, antique furniture, and a view over the surrounding fields, but the ensuite bathroom was pure 21st century and had one of the best showers we've had in the UK. We didn't know about the dining option when we booked, but thankfully were able to dine in on our second night and it was INCREDIBLE - Robin is a self-taught chef but the meal he provided us with was Michelin-standard, and we cannot emphasise enough what an amazing experience it was to eat such magnificent food cooked by what amounted to a private chef, served in their ancient and atmospheric front room with its enormous fireplace. It is not a cheap dining option, but was worth every penny and was one of the highlights of our five-week journey around the UK. And breakfast was also delicious, so all-in-all it was a fabulous experience that we would repeat in an instant if we didn't live 10,000 miles away! The fact that we live 10,000 miles away and can't revisit on a regular basis :(
- Robert (9/5): Superb - All of it Could not fault it
- Ken (10/5): We had a great long weekend and boy did I pick a great place - The breakfast was one of the best I have had traveling , the service was just fantastic nothing seemed to much trouble if you asked for a change Every thing was fine a great place to stay
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicole (10/5): Not to be missed! - Such a unique experience staying in a beautifully restored 600-year-old farmhouse B & B. Host/chef Robin is a fascinating person and we loved chatting with him. The meals we had (paid dinner and included breakfast) in front of the medieval fireplace were simply outstanding—the best we had in Wales. (Robin very kindly accommodated us for dinner when we had overlooked an email inviting us to preorder.) Not a thing
- Brown (10/5): A lovely relaxing weekend - Had an amazing weekend, very relaxing so quiet. N/a
- David (10/5): Excellent property - Lovely location
Beautiful renovated cottage There is nothing negative to say
This property is a true gem
- Martin (10/5): We had an amazing four days at the fire cat it was just what the doctor ordered. It is a great base to visit local towns - The property is in a lovely location. It’s very peaceful and tranquil. Robin and Jane really looked after us serving amazing high-quality food. The house is full of history and it was almost like going back in time and experiencing the 16th century. There isn’t much to not like about our stay at the Firecat, the only thing we could say was the room was a little bit small but I am 6ft2.
- Aq26 (10/5): Sublime - Senational breakfast, and dinner. Peaceful, cozy, comfortable, and in a stunning location with the perfect hosts. Peerless.
- Bryan (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyable stay in a beautiful stone house deep in gorgeous mountain scenery. - Very authentic rural stone house furnished very tastefully with antiques and other attractive items, set within a valley with stunning mountains in view. The hosts were very welcoming and made me feel right at home. Easy road access to attractions of the region and pathways for local walks. The top class dinner was an unexpected bonus! Nothing comes to mind.
- Kim (10/5): Robin and Jayne are lovely people who shared their beautiful home to us and really looked after us ! Served when we were ready, and not rushed.

- Mahmoud (10/5): Exceptional - This is more than just a review,This more like a thankyou to both Jane and Robin, who we felt opened their home to us..
Robin, thank you so much for the most excellent food which you sourced fresh from local farms and shops and cooked for us in a manor of which you would find in a Michelin restaurant.
Thank you for the great conversation
Jane, thank you for making us laugh and telling us about your life and listening to our story too.
Thank you for the use of your amazing fire
And the use of your extensive book collection.
Thank you for the relaxing music and the fine wines.
We were so pleased to have met you both and hope to visit you both again in the future.
For the time being have a wonderful Christmas and we both wish you the happiest of new years.
All our best
Mack and Polly x Nothing to dislike about this place.
- Janet (10/5): Warm and comfortable, both the accommodation and the hosts. - This is gem of a place. The hosts Robin & Jane are welcoming, friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the history of the property. The breakfasts are amazing, the room is warm and comfortable and the bathroom is modern, but still in keeping with the age of the house. In the evening, you can sit in the lounge with the log burner and chat over a bottle of wine or Gin & Tonic. I usually avoid B&B's because I find it a bit awkward to be in someone else's home, but I felt totally comfortable here. Struggling to think of anything I didn't like!
- Louise (10/5): Delightful stay in a country location with stunning food. - Absolutely delightful stay with Robin and Jane who couldn’t be more welcoming hosts. The food was excellent and Robin was careful to adjust his dishes to meet our needs. Absolutely stunning location and comfortable room with ensuite. Can’t think of anything we didn’t like!
- Atwood (10/5): Exceptional mix of old 15th Century meets 21st Century. Lovely Host and Fabulous Breakfast ! - Exceptional mix of old 15th Century meets 21st Century. Lovely Host and Fabulous Breakfast every morning.
- Irina (10/5): Exceptional - We had a delightful stay at this peaceful B&B in Wales, where tranquility meets comfort. The owners are wonderfully kind, and the homemade breakfast was simply exquisite, making us feel right at home. The room, particularly the one with the four-poster bed, offers all the comforts you could need. The setting is breathtaking, with a view of a river and rolling hills dotted with sheep—perfect for unwinding. Just a 15-minute walk to the nearest pub, you can enjoy a good meal without needing to drive. This place is an ideal escape, and I would gladly return for another stay.
- Alison (8/5): A warm, cosy retreat. - Food was excellent, with a good eye for detail & presentation.
- L (10/5): Pleasant - Location and food and hospitality
- Emma (10/5): Charming B&B with delicious breakfast and comfortable beds! - Beautiful 15th C farmhouse renovation, extremely comfortable beds, phenomenal breakfasts and hosts.
- Cath (10/5): Exceptional - The location is stunning. As is the property itself which is a beautifully renovated farmhouse, originally called Camlan Uchaf, which is hundreds of years old. The owners have renovated it to a high standard and have kept all the original features. Robin and Jane made us feel very welcome. The room was lovely, small and cosy (as to be expected) with the most comfortable four poster bed! Heaven! All facilities were super. Delicious breakfast too. It was also lovely to sit in the old kitchen (now lounge area) and have a beer - a beautiful room. A most enjoyable time! Diolch!
- Mandy (9/5): Superb -
- Claire (9/5): Beautiful place, great hosts, lovely food. - Naively I expected a buffet to accompany the cooked breakfast, however, I discovered I should have ordered whatever I wanted. Once I did, Robin went out of his way to make me what I asked for and the fresh fruit salad was perfect. Robin was careful about certain foods that make me unwell. The evening meal was wonderful, but quite pricey. £200 for two.
- Green (10/5): Hosts robin, jayne, and amber made us so welcome including our diva bulldog - Breakfast was brilliant , location and scenery was stunning especially the fast flowing river The weather
- Pon (10/5): Exceptional - amazing spread nil
- William (9/5): Lovely house, great area, incredible food. - The food was incredible (breakfast and dinner) We went for a walk and the neighbours dog tried to herd us and continually barked at us. Had to be rescued by neighbour.
- Ida (9/5): Absolutely lovely! -
- Petra (9/5): Relaxing and looked after☺️ - The Firecat is a little slice of heaven. The location is beautiful and the food delicious. Putting on weight cos of Robin’s food!
- Anindya (9/5): Superb -
- Kenneth (10/5): Robin and Jane are fabulous hosts. Fire at is a wonderful place to unwind. The house is an historic - The breakfast was second to none! The weather 😂
- Ali (10/5): 10/10 doesnt do justice - I'm not a regular user of B&B's but the experience at the Firecat was exceptional. Robin and Jane were very welcoming from the moment we arrived and ensured our stay was perfect. Robin even went out of his way to help with an issue with my car and even fixed it for me, I wish I could give a higher rating than 10 as they truly deserve it, can't wait to be back here again. Thank you so much for your hospitality.
- Milena (10/5): A fairy- tale stay - My husband and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Firecat and must say, the experience was absolutely smashing!
The location is perfect, offering a serene and picturesque setting that truly allowed us to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
The food was nothing short of spectacular. Each meal was delicious, beautifully presented, and clearly made with fresh, local ingredients. Breakfast was a highlight of each morning and we looked forward to every bite.
But what really made our stay unforgettable were the wonderful owners.
Thank you for providing such an exceptional experience. Please, book as many nights as possible, as they may be fully booked and you won’t be able to extend your stay!
- Karen (9/5): Had a really enjoyable time - Amazing food and views to die for Didn’t realise it was dog friendly and there were a couple of dogs there during our stay, one of which was particularly yappy!
- Claire (10/5): Amazing stay, wonderful location, great hosts, lovely breakfast - Brilliant guest house, wonderful hosts, lovely breakfast, we will be back!!
Hosts were wonderful, I have a gluten allergy and they were so helpful and supportive and made sure I had gluten free food! Thank you so much!!
We are going to book for a long weekend towards the end of the year!!! It was fully booked the night after so we couldn’t stay longer :(
- Keya (10/5): Fine dining done country house style - The room was excellent with a really comfy bed with beautifully laundered cotton sheets. Waking up to the view of the gorgeous valley from the bedroom window was really relaxing in the morning. Robin and Jane went out of their way to personalise every aspect of our stay but the absolute highlight of the visit was booking in for the private dinning experience in the evening. Robin offers an imaginative 3 course menu, with a wide selection for each course. Robin crafted the most exquisite plates of food that were beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. The Firecat is an absolute must for anyone interested in fine dining with an unusual county house vibe. We loved every to be honest
- Sian (10/5): A home away from home, in a beautiful setting - Great room with everything we needed, large four poster bed, great touches like dressing gowns, a fan , plenty of towels, snacks, mini fridge, toiletries etc. Excellent breakfast, made to order with high quality ingredients. Beautiful scenery and views all around the Firecat, plus lots of walks and places to see just a short drive away. Jane and Robin were fantastic hosts who made us feel warm and welcome the whole time, we’d love to come back to stay again.
- Christophe (10/5): A gem near Cadair Idris. - Close to Cadair Idris. Wonderful food. Amazing wine list. Delightful welcome.
- Monika (10/5): The Firecat antique country house B&B - I liked everything! The location, the food, the area, the building, the hosts. I just couldn't expect any better B&B after very stressful week at work. My room was clean, bed comfortable, and the sound of the river near by made me relax. The hosts Robin &Jane put all their heart in this country house. It is old fashioned building from 15th century. This place made me go back to memories when I was a child;chickens outside I just can't say enough.
My partner and I loved it hope you will too. There is nothing we did not like.
- Laoong (7/5): Good -
- Ellie (10/5): A very special place. - A beautifully maintained 15th century home full of character in a truly stunning location. We were welcomed with such genuine hospitality and had everything we could have wished for in the room, real attention to detail. A carefully prepared breakfast after a very good nights sleep was a real treat.

- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (10/5): A perfect place for a mini-break. - The Firecat is a very old building with lots of character, but modernised to give perfect comfort. The breakfasts were lovely, served exactly to our different preferences. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, very green and peaceful. Everything was excellent.
