- Pirbhai (9/5): -
- Enish Rai (8/5): Place for a peaceful rewind - The breakfast was amazing except the coffee, the coffee was watery. The place is quiet and peaceful and the staffs were polite. Loved their room service. Limited menu, the beach is full of boats and no good restaurants nearby.

- Francesca (7/5): Overall nice within given circumstances - * beautiful, big, clean rooms with everything you need (fridge, towels, soap, safe)
* all rooms have a nice ocean view
* A/C is working well
* the first room we were in is known for ant infestations but the staff relocated us into a new room for free
* there were power outages (not the hotels fault) but they always made sure that a generator ran from 6/7pm onwards * pool was not inviting at all, fairly dirty (cloudy water)
* restaurant prices equal western prices because this place is surrounded by resorts (kinda stuck here)
* shower- and tap water is salty - not necessarily our preference
* beach is nice but the east coast is known for low tide > not a lot of opportunities to swim
- Robert (1/5): Possibly the worst place I have ever stayed at absolutely disgusting - Nothing it was disgustingly bad I don’t understand how they have any good reviews. Don’t be fooled by the pictures advertised. Stated as 3 star more like half a star. The place is absolutely disgusting. Bugs all over the room coming from the gaps in the doors and windows. The bathroom is very dirty and old. The bed was soiled with what looked like blood and blood splashes on the walls and in the bathroom. The pool was very murky and dirty not something you would want to step foot in. We had breakfast that was stale which we obviously left. We booked 2 nights and left the next morning so stayed just overnight. There was no other room offers or any refunds, we was just expected to stay in dirt. I would highly suggest to not stay here and try somewhere else.

- Alberto (10/5): - highly recommended!Wonderful experience at this property, very good restaurant and very kind staff.thank you so much for wonderful holiday
- Anne (7/5): - Prima, niet heel speciaal. Beter versleten
- Antonio (10/5): pau i mes pau - s,hospitalitat del staff
- Aldan (10/5): Staff are very happy, cheerful and always helpful. Overall, a great stay at the hotel and had a great time. - View and activities Some of the furniture needs to be changed as you can see that they are damaged or chipped. Water was a bit smelly and dirty. Needs to have more items on the menu
- Laurens (8/5): -
- LOPEZ (10/5): - We would like to thank Anish and his entire team for the warm welcome we received. We loved staying at this charming hotel located on a beautiful white-sand beach. You can relax by the pool or on the sunbeds while enjoying the stunning ocean view.
The rooms are gorgeous and very comfortable, and the staff is incredibly attentive — all you have to do is unpack and unwind.
For activities, you can book everything directly through the hotel. We highly recommend heading out early in the morning to see the dolphins near Mnemba Island, an unforgettable experience.
If you’re looking for comfort and tranquility, far from the busy tourist area of Nungwi, Jafferji Beach Retreat is the perfect place to stay.
- Marion Kock (10/5): - Außergewöhnlich nettes Personal. Uns wurde jeder Wunsch erfüllt. Wir haben uns sehr willkommen gefühlt. Für uns der Ideale Traum Urlaub.

- Mark (10/5): 2. Nászút - Csodálatos 10 napot töltöttünk itt a feleségemmel. Hukana Matata!
- Igor (8/5): -
- M.A. (9/5): -
- Roberta (10/5): Un oasi di pace - Tutto, colazione, letto, posizione, staff molto attento Niente
- Roberta (10/5): Bellissimo posto, staff molto attento - Dopo giorni on the road a Zanzibar è stato piacevole rilassarsi sulla piscina fronte spiaggia ev farsi coccolare dallo staff che ha esaudito ogni nostra richiesta. Ci torneremo sicuramente! Nulla
- Liandra (9/5): Retreat - The breakfast menu had several options and came with fresh fruit and juice every morning. All of the breakfasts were delicious. The resort is in a quiet fishing village, and despite many of the neighbouring properties also being hotels, it did not feel "touristy". I was seeking solitude, and found this place to be just right for this. There are plenty of boats on the beach, and boatmen are busy with the hustle and bustle of daily life. I would recommend taking a boat trip to go snorkelling! The locals are extremely friendly, with many beach vendors; however, this did not feel intrusive. I felt safe here as a solo female traveller. The staff are very friendly and attentive, and really made the stay very comfortable. I would recommend making the most of the Swahili options on the restaurant menu, as well as indulging in a massage, which was very relaxing. The resort was very accommodating to late check-ins and check-outs based on flights from South Africa that come in at odd times of the night. I appreciated this immensely. I had no issues during my stay. There were a few times when there were short electrical shutdowns, but this is not the fault of the resort.
- Peter (9/5): - Stuff is amazing! Very helpful and kind.
- Love Jones Tours (9/5): -
- Collins (8/5): We really had a good time. - I really enjoyed the breakfast. The food was well prepared, seasoned and very tasteful. The staff were very friendly and helpful in terms of information (activities). The locals on the beach offering activities and sightseeing may be a bit of a nuisance when you want to relax by the pool loungers.
- Simon (10/5): -
- Abdul Kadir (10/5): -
- Neil (8/5): -
- Christian (1/5): didn't stay, booked another hotel - the beach but the road to the place the staff dress codes, the infrastructure not renovated, so old and cleaners and not value for money.
- Ronaldoverdijk (10/5): Best beach holiday so far. - Everything was just perfect here: the location, facilities, staff, super fresh (sea)food, atmosphere, the pool, the pergola shades with sunbeds, outside shower and (last but not least) the beach. Very quiet place too. Free wifi everywhere, towels for the sunbeds, drinks served at the pool, you name it. If we make it back to Zanzibar we will for sure come back here. Really nothing.
- Chris (10/5): thank you Jafferji beach. retreat!! - The staff were outstanding! Thank you Maurizio and crew! Words fail me.
The location.....😮 paradise ♥️ and the food....punching well above it's weight for such a wee hotel.
Myself and my wife were made to feel like the only people in the world.
The only negative is how far from Scotland this slice of heaven is. ♥️
Already discussing our return 🤣😁 Nothing! but it's a bit far from Glasgow for a weekend retreat.
- aisha (10/5): - Lovely place to stay. Food was ok. Room very spacious and beautifully decorated. Massage was absolutely beautiful. The staff were very attentive and friendly, the manager was a bit of an opportunist and will try get extra $ when he gets a chance.
Overall beautiful place. Would definitely recommend.
- Ileana (10/5): - We had a great stay and a wonderful time at J.B.R.
The property is well kept, cozy and very pretty; our room was clean, spacious and comfortable.
The restaurant is excellent! The service is a little slow (no issue for us), the staff is friendly, the food is delicious and not expensive.
Cherry on the cake: 1. We loved the shampoo & body wash offered by the resort; 2. The live band on Wednesday was a great surprise and so much fun!
- Akwino (1/5): Bad - The food was good The rooms are old. There was no water I have to go to the reception to ask for water. I even check out before my days.
- Pamela (10/5): Our stay was brilliant - The room was what l imagined. Big, clean and well decorated.
Staff were amazing always happy to help.
The food was always fresh. I did not like the road to the property.
The road is so bad making so difficult to drive.
- Nontokozo (6/5): The stay was cool - The bedroom was well sized and the location provided a peaceful environment. The rooms we had booked (rooms 8 and 9) did not have wifi connection. The last two days we didn’t have warm water in the rooms.
- Arunas (9/5): Superb -
- Mary (7/5): Pleasant stay for a few days. - The facilities are nice and clean. The hotel staff is friendly and attentive. Beds were comfortable and rooms were clean. Very relaxing atmosphere with lounge chairs and shade. We liked the turn down service at night. No door on bathroom. Water from the faucet was salted, so when bathing you never felt clean. The daily ratio of two small bottles of drinking water was insufficient. Beach for boats and not a swimming beach, as it was full of seaweed. The water coming out of the 🚿 was either too hot or too cold, and the pressure was minimal, but not awful.
- Fredrik (9/5): A great experience - strong recommendation. - This is an excellent little boutique hotell with a nice position in the end at Matemwe beach. It has a good size pool close to the beach. A neat restaurant and a cozy lounge section.
The hotell is the perfect size, not to big nor to small. The rooms are very big and tidy and the overall atmosphere is fantastic. But what really stands out is the management and staff. Super friendly and helpful in a most genuine way.
- Johannes (8/5): Beautifully located hotel with big rooms, great staff, yummy food but power outage problems - + the food was tasty and very good. The selection was the same every day but it was a great selection
+ the room was huge and the interior well selected
+ the beach had white sand and the turquoise water was very warm
+ from pool we had an incredible view to the beach
+ staff was very friendly and always helping
+ the view from our room to the beach was very beautiful
+ we really like how the hotel was integrated into the nature - the constant power outages that included water outages where quite bothering sometimes but it was not the hotel's fault
- the fan in the back of the bathroom didn't have a grid outside so it would have been possible for insects to invade but we covered it with some plastics and tape :-)
- the first day we had a lot of ants in our room because they where able to enter the front door which was quite contorted (maybe due to the weather) ... therefore we had to cover it with tape as well which worked. To keep the door closed you had to lock it twice. If you only locked it once it would stay open. Hopefully this will be fixed in the future.
- Huzefa (10/5): Amazing Place - Absolutely stunning resort with impeccable service. The beachfront location is breathtaking, and the rooms are luxurious and comfortable. Nothing.
- Liliane (8/5): It was so wonderful and staff and employees are so friendly ! I highly recommend it - The property were good and clean. The swimming pool wasn’t that clean
- Ana (10/5): 23 days long time stay - Very beautiful hotel with relax and beautiful, clean beach. Food is very good, stuff is very friendly, on every corner very clean and cozy. Chef Mauritio is very helpful, we had some healty problems and he called doctor to our room, get us advices about island, trips,... if on island electricity is out hotel has agregat. Benefit is pool because there are some hours that there is no sea.. people on beach are nice, not pushy to much as other places. Roads to hotel
- Matteo (10/5): Exceptional - Very good Hotel considering quality/price. The manager Maurizio was super helpful and an amazing amphitryon
- Laura (8/5): Great! - The friendliness of the staff, the beachfront situation and the outdoors shower! The sea view was a technicality and the bathroom is wide open to the room, so not much privacy there.
- Henriette (8/5): Very good - The view is so beautiful and the place is small and very peaceful.
The staff is friendly and is ready to serve at any time . The air condition could have worked better and the pool more clear
- Olivier (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful staff!
- Catherine (9/5): Superb -
- Ulle (9/5): Idyllic place, wonderful for a short stay - Great large room with an amazing view over the ocean. Idyllic setting. Very friendly staff. Good food for breakfast and all other meals. Highly recommended for a short stay. Not much to do in the immediate surroundings, so doesn't work so well for a longer stay. Bit awkward that the bathroom does not have a door.
- Neil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Uta (9/5): Superb - This is a beautiful boutique style hotel. The staff is very friendly. The beach setting and the rooms are beautiful but the best is the food. We had half board and there were always delicious choices on the menu board. It's not the cheapest place but the food is fresh, nicely spiced, altogether the best food we have had during our stay in Tanzania.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. Its also a good choice if want to be close to the dive schools. They provide free pick up from the hotel. Sometimes staff was to quick tidying up the table.
- Richard (3/5): Never go here!!! - The Restaurant and Hotel staff were very friendly. The Manager Mr Minusi, was very unprofessional, when we arrived, he proceeded to "Check out" my wife while he was showing us to our room, and he did so again and again on several occasions afterwards. He also asked us if he could take us to an ATM in the nearby village to draw him cash from our bank accounts for a personal endeavour of his.
The Hotel is on the outskirts of a Shanty Town, with a lot of very poor and very dodgy characters. The manager also said that we can't safely walk around at night on the beach. So it doesn't feel very safe. Furthermore, there is very poor Hotel security, so we needed to walk in the dark to our room at night, and there were random locals lurking around on the hotel grounds, so if we didn't go into our rooms before sunset, then we would need to run to our rooms and quickly let ourselves in, and lock the door behind us.
You cannot go onto the beach without behind harassed for money every 5 minutes, some of the locals would also follow us around, possibly looking to rob us where they could.
Our room had no remote for the air-conditioning, so we slept in a hot stuffy room. The frequent power cuts meant that there was often no water or cold water, and no WiFi.
The Safe provided in the room was not mounted to anything, so if someone got into our room for cleaning, they could just pick up the entire safe and walk off with it. Furthermore, the safe also stopped working at some point, as if someone had tried to put the incorrect code in several times trying to get in while we were away.
- György (10/5): Really recommended by the price/value rates - If you try to understand the local lifestyle and the circumstances of the poor local people you will realize very quickly that this hotel is a real heaven in this area. After we landed our plane and started to get the hotel we were shocked by the circumstances. The houses and roads are in very bad condition, lots of poor people and rubbish on the streets. But this is Zanzibar, and nobody told you to come here. It was your own decision because you wanted to explore Zanzibar, I think. Even if it is not similar to your own lifestyle. After we got the hotel, the staff welcomed us friendly with a welcome drink. We had some misunderstanding about the half board accommodation because you can choose more possibilities like only breakfast included or half board. We checked the reservation together and it was not a problem anymore. I realized the wifi will not be enough for home office and I told this matter to Mr. Munisi (hotel manager) who immediately sent somebody to buy me a mobile data card. I got that within a few minutes. Btw, we never could ask anything which he couldn't solve. Change money, have an ice cream for dinner, have a food which is not on the menu, call a taxi, need more towels, give me advice for sights or tours worth visiting etc, etc. Specially thanks for him to makes our vacation so pleasant and unforgettable. Other staff are very friendly and helpful one by one, as well. Always pay attention to our needs. We always got professional service. Perfect hospitality. The room and the hotel are very clean. Cleaning every day in the room and the pool (several times a day), the garden. The food was excellent, including traditional and international food. It doesn't matter what you choose, it will be delicious. Thank you CHEF. We felt ourselves completely safe but have to admit we didn't walk in the village, only on the ocean's coast. At the end we decided to cancel our reservation in Stone Town and stay here 4 more nights. it was a good... The wifi could be better but Mr. Munisi helped me to solve this issue by a mobile data card so I could use it anywhere else for a single penny. The coast is quite dirty but the hotel staffs are cleaning at the front of the hotel every day. There are cows, but the hotel located enough far from there. There are some more expensive hotel close to the cows (dirt and smell). The beach boys are quite bothering but it is normal on the whole island. You have to accept everythig is little less than was offered to you in Zanzibar. It is also normal.
- Curry (7/5): Quiet and peaceful - a great place to getaway and relax for a good price. - Fabulous location on a quiet beach. Friendly staff with a good breakfast. Rooms clean with beautiful furniture. Thoroughly recommend staying here. No door on the bathroom.
- Sybrand (7/5): Stunning snorkeling experience, slightly tainted by misunderstanding between resort & booking.com - The natural setting of the place is beautiful. The surrounding beach was excellent for snorkeling among the coral, as long as you take care with the myriad of sea urchins (take booties). Our snorkeling trip to Mnemba island was great. Our room was comfortable and spacious, with a beautiful ocean view. The staff were friendly. Booking.com offered an excellent deal here for a double sea-viewing room with half-board (breakfast and supper) included, which we booked. On the day of arrival, the manager told me that the advertised deal had actually been a mistake that they had attempted to rectify with Booking.com, since they could not offer half-board in this unit at such a low cost. He informed me that we would have to pay for supper. I insisted that the half-board offer was the reason why we booked the place, and that we could not afford supper at about 25$ per person (perhaps not too expensive for some, but we were on a tight budget). Eventually he agreed to accommodate us by offering us only the main meal (without starters and dessert) for supper. This tainted our experience a bit, and Booking.com really has to clarify this with Jafferji Beach Retreat, to avoid similar misunderstandings in future. The main meal was delicious and more than enough, though. We found the cost of drinks (including water) a bit high, and ended up buying bottled water from the local beach boys at a much better price. There were complementary tea bags with the kettle in our room, but we received only one complementary 500ml bottle of water between the two of us per day. When I asked about complementary coffee in our room, the manager informed me that it was not available. Milk for the complementary tea was only provided when we asked for it at the restaurant. Minor complaints, but areas for potential improvement.
- A_che (9/5): Superb - The food was really very good - the breakfast and dinners, the location was excellent. The staff were charming : ) The local beach was not very clean although the patch right in front of the hotel was quite well kept.
- Arnaud (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel.
The staff was really friendly and helpfull.
Everything was easy there we book some trips with them and it was good.
The breakfast is good and the restaurant part serve good food.
The view on the beach from the pool is beautiful.
I highly recommend this place to whoever want to go in Zanzibar.
- Stephan (9/5): Superb - Nice view on the beach from the pool and from the room. Very nice staff and good kitchen. Also the pool was very nice. Everything very clean. Also nice local restaurant nearby called chichi. Area is really not much to do in matemwe. Mostly resorts. No sign to find the hotel.
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sharon (7/5): Good - The service was awesome . Elizabeth is the best
Munisi made sure we were comfortable. Chef was superb The beach was not clean
- Moses (8/5): Nice place to be if you have good mean of transport to move around. Excellent location near Schnorchel area and Mnemba I - Food was great, staff was good, Ambiance was great No wine drink on the Menu, didn’t like that the housekeepers can sneak anytime in the room to spray Mosquitoes Spray without notice.
- Anonymous (10/5): A beautiful 3 days after a 10 days in the west coast , stunning beach and amazing service and staff . 5* - stunning location if your looking to totally chill as nothing around balconies could do with updating , nothing else , perfect 😍
- Sandor (10/5): Exceptional - The staff are very professional, friendly and always helpful.
- Yotolo (7/5): Good -
- Anna (9/5): Superb -
- Adriana (8/5): Good hotel. - Good hotel.
Clean, very friendly and helpful staff.
I think the description of Boutique hotel does not correspond to reality, a good 3 star hotel, well decorated, but which has had its day, at the moment well used.
The location was good for our purpose, scuba diving on the island of Mnemba.
The beach in front of the hotel is full of boats and (this may change) full of sea urchins. Not the most pleasant place to swim.
For breakfast you get a plate of fruits, juice, water, coffee or tea and you can choose a dish: English or Omelette or Porridge, etc. If you want anything else, you will have to pay US$10.00.
Few good options for lunch or dinner outside the hotel, 1 restaurant very close, and another one you have to walk about 20 minutes by the beach. We ate a few times at the hotel during our stay, the food was good. Drinks reasonably priced, not exaggerated like other hotels.
- Moe (9/5): On the beach hotel - Good place on the beach with small clean pool. We had a very nice ocean view room with shared balcony looking over the ocean. Bkfst is good with some limited options. Tea & Coffee at the room with a kettle. Good wi Fi throughout. Fisherman village feel. Some restaurants around on the beach and in the small village. A bit overpriced. Beach is good but this area experiences low tide in morning till afternoon, and some areas have seaweed. Pricey for activities & transports. You need to negotiate. Toiletries weren’t provided on daily basis.
- Bin (7/5): Good -
- Aasiyah (5/5): Relaxing - I think it was beautiful when your rooms look at the ocean- but the ocean is dirty on that side .
The hotel stuff extremely helpful and very good but I found the rooms very old school , with no proper doors to the bathroom.
- Nyasha (10/5): i highly recommend, staff is very welcoming and friendly and the food was perfect and the views😍😍😍😍 - I loved loved the place nothing
- Lorna (9/5): Superb - everything was wonderful, especially the lovely staff and care that was taken to answer all our questions and arrange everything only thing that I could improve on. would be good filter coffee in the mornings.
- Sebastian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sebastian (10/5): Nice to go, I recommend it 100% - location , staff, food, view, sand, Bathroom water is salty and the road to property from main road is difficult
- Blene (10/5): One of my best memories in Zanzibar. We’ll definitely come back to stay longer at the resort! - Everything! We could use hooks or hangers for towels and wet bathing suits.
- Hamadi (8/5): we had great two nights at jafferji beach treat - the have good view on front of beach
- Gharbi (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel is really good and very calm, the staff is helpful and nice. Ali the captain who took me to the Mnemba island was very polite and freindly. The village is really poor, if you want to book a snorkling trip or anything else, do it at least with local people and try to help the dispensary and the school. To absolutely recommend Nothing
- Maxime (8/5): - Hotel calme, personnels adorables, cuisine delicieuse.aurait besoin d un coup de neuf, eloignement important
- Andy (8/5): Very good - the Food was Fantastic Nothing Realy...almost everything was Spot On
- Aikmar (9/5): Rest on Zanzibar Island - beautiful large room, plenty of sunbeds, excellent food, helpful staff, swimming pool, cleanliness, quiet place worse wifi signal in the room
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Where to start? This really is a beautiful hotel in all ways. From my room I had a fantastic vista of the entire beach and it was a real pleasure just sitting there watching the world go by. There is so much room in the lobby, by the pool, on the beachfront where you can just relax and chill out.
The food really is magnificent and credit to managers and the staff. Every dish I tried (most of them) had the best ingredients. It was certainly the best steak and tuna I've had in a long time. Perfectly cooked too. The soups are to die for as are the swahili dishes.
As for management. Mr Munisi and Joseph, really are top professionals who go far beyond any reasonably expectations to make sure you area at home. I like football and Mr Munisi went out of his way to make sure I could watch it.
I needed more credit on my local sim. Joseph sorted this out for me.
Really, I can't remember anywhere in the world that I've felt more welcome and all this in such amazing surroundings.
I was also doing some work and the internet worked no problem at all. In fact, with the view I had from my room, it was just about the best office you could have.
Overall, a top class hotel with an amazing restaurant all at reasonable prices.
Full credit to owner, managers and staff and thank you very much! Nothing
