Guest Reviews
- Angus (10/5): - My favourite hotel on my trip so far, fantastic overall.
- Simon (10/5): - Lovely restaurant and a great room. We were initially surprised to find that the rooms are in a separate building to the restaurant but this didn't dampen the experience. It's a very short walk and still on the harbour - in fact it was probably better for us as coming and going was so quick and easy. The décor in the rooms is excellent and the service was lovely. We were leaving early, before the breakfast service, so we were offered a lovely little breakfast hamper which was delivered to our room.
- Ryan (10/5): - Lovely little guest house. We stayed in the Kitten room. There was a fold out bed as well as the double and single, so we managed to squeeze four in. Ideal for a short stay and the restaurant staff were super helpful and friendly in helping us get settled. Breakfast was also amazing with a great view.
- chirag (10/5): - Great location. Breakfast is incredible. Rooms
Bit dusty and limited lighting but they are good for a short stay. Staff are friendly and helpful.
- Jackie (10/5): - Wonderful room, fantastic food, lovely staff all in a great location overlooking the sea. Within easy walking distance to Folkestone lanes and the harbour arm.
- louise (6/5): - The room was in a great location, close to attractions and many restaurants. Breakfast was lovely.
But the lighting was poor in the room. No ceiling light.
Nowhere to store clothes.
Nowhere to put bathroom products, or a shelf for a toothbrush etc. No toilet roll holder.
Could have done with a sheet on the beds to sleep under on hot days.
Fridge didnt feel cold.
- Alicia (10/5): - Lovely rooms for a short stay in Folkestone and a fantastic breakfast. Only small comment would be that in the summer when the day starts really early, the shutters don't really block the light so we were not able to have much of a lie in - although this is personal preference and only a small comment on an otherwise lovely stay.
- Kay (6/5): - The Team at Rocksalt are absolutely fantastic. The size of the room, especially the bathroom, is the drawback. For a short weekend stay probably fine but if you have luggage the lack of space, no closet and a bathroom with a only a v small hand-sink in it doesn’t work well. I also hit my head on the unfortunately placed bathroom wall light which was right infront of the corner hand-sink.p
- Steve (10/5): - Uni
- Scott (10/5): - Great location, attached to fab restaurant so breakfast was delish but best of all I left my jacket in the room and Leon the manager called not long after we left and arranged postage. We left Saturday I had my jacket back Tuesday. A1 service.
- Maggie (10/5): Folkestone’s surprise stay - Good room. Well equipped. Ate in the restaurant which was excellent and it’s in a fabulous spot
- Natasha (8/5): - Always a great stay here. Very convenient, situated very central to everything. Christmas market about 5 minute walk with lots of stalls.
- Sarah (10/5): - Small room but extremely high quality for the price. Very comfortable bed! Luxurious wet room. Could not fault this Hotel. There’s also an amazing (award winning) fish and chip shop a 30 second walk away! Can’t be bad!
- AnneMarieke (6/5): - Hi, we had trouble finding the premises because the introduction video did not work on iPhone somehow. It took about an hr to get someone over to show us. Otherwise, great spot, rooms are very small but functional and everything is brand new. Enjoyed our stay but it would be better if the hotel tells you that no one is available on the premises on Monday and Tuesdays
- Laura (4/5): - Lovely property....excellent customer service 👌
- Gareth (10/5): - Lovely rooms in building near main bar/restaurant. Parking a bit further away (on pier) but was fine. Restaurant was excellent (but expensive). They delivered breakfast to our room as we left early - nice touch
- Elizabeth (10/5): Unique Seaside Acommodations - Rocksalt is unique and charming. The guest rooms are housed in a separate building across the small street from the restaurant which also serves as the hotel office. Our small but comfortable room was rustic with exposed brick and wooden beams. We has a wonderful view of the harbor from our Juliet balcony. We enjoyed a great dinner and excellent breakfast at the restaurant.
- Carl (10/5): - Great location lovely breakfast nice clean comfy room
- Keith (6/5): Cosy but noisy - Be aware, when booking, that this isn't a hotel as such - it is a restaurant that has rooms in a different building (an old smoke house). Whilst the rooms are modern, clean and pleasant, we did find them very noisy. As the property is nestled right on the harbor, you'll be awakened by early morning activity as the adjacent fishmongers and businesses begin their day early. Breakfast was very tasty, and there is a lovely view of the harbor as you eat.
- Daniel (6/5): Mis leading - Pics are very Mis leading no sea view or en suite and rooms are away from actual hotel
- Vickrum (4/5): Great service and location but very noisy - The room itself was small but cute. Sufficient for one night stay. However be prepared to be woken up at 6am with the delivery lorries and the light coming through (blinds are not blackout). We were away from our toddler for one night and hoping to have a lie in but were up at 6am! Also breakfast does not start till 9 30 which is a bit late. Cannot fault the food or the service though.
- Sandra (10/5): - Very comfortable room although not very big
- Timothy (10/5): - Beautiful location and amazing Jess
- David (4/5): - No radiators were working, instead 1 electric heater in the bedroom. The bathroom was freezing and the towels damp. Cooked breakfast was only available between 9.30-10.30am, no good for early ferry users!! Cereals, yoghurt and biscuits were provided instead in a hamper in your room with no table! No working light in entrance to room. Not really impressed and the steep stairs was not good! Would not stay again and imo was over priced!
- Peter (10/5): - Small compact room but with everything you could wish for plus some other nice touches. Accompanying Breakfast in adjacent Restaurant was excellent we will definitely be back as excellent situation.
- Andy (10/5): - Amazing venue
- Emma (10/5): - Breakfast was amazin. Lovely clean quiet rooms
- Olivia (10/5): - Lovely and clean and refurbished property
- Hector (10/5): Amazing Place, Your will love it - Amazing stay, Lovely place, with a great service and wonderful food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic stay - Super comfortable bed, watching a sunrise on one morning while still in it was wonderful. Room clean throughout. Staff very helpful. Breakfast was amazing. Stayed for dinner one evening which absolutely lived up to expectations. Would book again.
- Jon (8/5): Great room for short stay - Very well presented small room in great location by harbour. Comfy bed. Good shower. Had hanging space with hooks but note there is no wardrobe. Wonderful breakfast in restaurant overlooking harbour. Def would stay again for 1/2 nights
- Pauline (8/5): Quick trip away - Overnight in Folkestone
- craig (6/5): - nice room, nice touches around room but with small tv, downside for room was in a outbuilding with access is a lane off road, they failed to deliver my breakfast to my room as promised as leaving before service started
- STEPHEN (8/5): Rocksalt Hotel - Staff and location excellent. Breakfast 10/10.
Unfortunately the shower/wetroom set up is not practical. The bathroom was too small for this to work. The shower control was confusing to navigate leaving you totally drenched from the overhead shower(not good if you don't need to wash your hair ) or the hand held shower made the entire bathroom wet leaving whatever toiletries in there soaked along with the floor. This also meant that the bathroom didn't look very clean as there was mould on grouting and in corners of the floor tiles.
Although the room was generally clean, when i lifted the decorative cushion on the bed there was a used cotton earbud underneath.
The windows in the room could only be open a maximum on 2 inches leaving the room feeling caulstrophobic and very warm. Also as a safety point no way out if there had been a fire outside of the room.
The
The facilities for storing our clothes was practically non existent. Only having a coat hook on the back of a door with only 2 coathangers ,one of which was broken and nowhere to store non hanging items so we had to leave most of our clothes in our suitcases. Lastly although a member of staff brought us over milk for our tea/ coffee there was no fridge to keep it cold so everytime we returned to our room we haf to collect milk from the restaurant which was situated across the road. As a suggestion maybe long life milk in pods would be better.
Upon check-out there was no one to raise these issues with.
- Jamie (10/5): Great location - Great little place to stay after having dinner at Rocksalt. The rooms are small but comfortable
- Lynda (10/5): Great for an overnight stay - Really nice surprise how great the room was. Couldn't ask for more for an overnight stay.
You couldn't stay for more than a couple of nights at a time though no storage and bathroom was really packed in.
- Martine (10/5): An little haven in Folkestone - Great location overlooking the harbour Really nice and clean room, a bit small but everything in it, with new furniture. Very friendly staff who offered a hamper breakfast delivered in front of the door the night before since we were leaving at 5am to catch an early Shuttle to France.
- Carl (8/5): Great location and you must eat at Rocksalt also! - We had the 2 bedrooms which was great since the sole bedroom would have been cramped with limited storage for clothes and bags etc. No desk so I had to quickly catch up on work emails with my laptop on the window ledge. Bed very comfortable and plenty of tea and coffee. You must have a meal at the restaurant if you stay which was excellent as was the breakfast!
- Ajay (10/5): Would recommend staying here - Very friendly staff. Room was well designed and had all the essentials. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner and it was amazing. Breakfast portion was a little small for me but it was delicious.
- D (8/5): Quirky Room, Great Location - The location is fantastic, tucked away just off the harbour. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and the check in effortless. The room was quirky and a little tight as the main bedroom was an odd shape due to the design of the building. The room was clean and the bed comfy. The bathroom was clean overall but I think they forgot the basin as it was a bit dirty but nothing major. The coffee machine was a nice touch, they gave us a small bottle of milk on arrival but the lack of a fridge meant you could not keep the it cold. The bed side shelves are a little small and there was a distinct lack of storage. The shower was a love design and a good size but the water pressure was not great. Very quiet location and the blinds were black out. Breakfast was served in Rocksalt the restaurant, it was delicious and the view is amazing.
- Mark (10/5): - Incredible
- Stella (8/5): Oh I do like to be beside the seaside. - Cosy escape from the January cold. The heating was on . There was complimentary water, a Bloody Mary (in kit form) plenty of tea and coffee and ample towels. We had a terrific view from our window.
My only complaint would be that the shower was on the dribbly side of efficient but not a real problem.
Breakfast was divine.
Wonderful place for a weekend or overnight visit. There are some lovely places to walk. We walked along the old train line, down the Harbour Arm, across the beach and up the Zig Zag Path at the Leas Cliff end before strolling back again.
It's worth checking out the Anthony Gormley statue under the harbour arm too - best seen at low tide otherwise the sea comes up to his chest!
- Paul (10/5): - Clean rooms, secluded and great location for Harbour
- Eleonore (10/5): Best restaurant in harbour seafront - Excellent service at one of best if not the best seafront restaurant in Folkestone. The small hotel attached to it has small, cosy and charming bedrooms including one for a family of 4 possible. The service and food is of great quality.
- MATTHEW (8/5): - Great place to stay, however breakfast was very disappointing. I understand the staff were impacted by COVID so the restaurant was not open on Sunday morning - however our breakfast basket was 30mins late and contained 3 pastries and 2 biscuits only - no substitute for a full breakfast as part of the overnight accommodation.
- Neil (10/5): - Lovely room. Very nice meal.
- Tom (10/5): - We had a great stay, the room was lovely and the extras provided were excellent. Friendly and professional staff, we'll recommend it and return again.
- Michael (10/5): Amazing B&B in the heart of Folkestone Harbour. - We had an amazing experience. The room was beautiful and breakfast at Rocksalt was first class. I would bring your ear plugs as it can be a bit noisy early in the morning when the fishermen are loading the boats. But that adds to the charm of the place. So don’t be out of going.
- Melissa (10/5): Great staycation:) - Great stay at the Rock salt hotel :) The staff were so friendly and helpful. We were super impressed with our accommodation it was a lovely break for out anniversary. The food at the rock salt was delicious. Service was great too :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room generally was excellent - well appointed, modern, cozy and in a great location. The staff who checked me in and sorted out my initial issues were excellent
- Christine (10/5): Lovely place to stay in Folkstone. - Very smart comfortable room , comfy bed, good shower, soft towells, coffee try etc. Sea view if required, on harbour just behind their restaurant within walking distance of the Harbour Arm, town centre and seaside walks. Paid parking available nearby. Lovely staff. Breakfast was particularly good taken in the restaurant, small selection of freshly prepared dishes enjoyed overlooking the harbour. Very happy to recommend.
- Diane (8/5): Giannakou Tours - Thought we were staying at Rocksalt but actually it was above the smokehouse. Nice spacious room, little bit of noise from late night passers by. Should have parking included for the price. Loved Rocksalt Bar, especially the chilled Gusbourne, superb!
- George (6/5): Breakfast,at the harbour. - Rocksalt consists of two buildings: a lovely and expensive restaurant and upstairs bar in a prime spot overlooking the harbour; and a nondescript building a short walk away where the bedrooms are situated. The bedrooms are reaonable, our room with seaview was available if we craned our necks near the window. Otherwise not much more to be said. A good breakfast at the, restaurant was included in the price. We ate dinner in town.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fun location in the center of activity with a lovely view, well appointed
- Verified traveler (8/5): Rocksalt stay July 2019 - We stayed at Rocksalt for a short stopover before heading over to France. The room we stayed in (called La La - was small but had nice finishing touches, and was perfectly adequate for our stay. The downside was that the room was very hot and did not have a fan in the room, even though we found an accompanying fan controller. We did ask the staff if they had a fan we could use but were told that none were available. To finish on a positive note, we did eat at the restaurant and the food was excellent, as was the view of the working harbour so would definitely recommend.
- Debbie (8/5): Great place. Great food. Great staff. - Great room ins however not wheelchair accessible at all. Two flights of stairs to our room was a lot for our 92 year old Mum.
Also no wardrobes or hanging space. Luckily we read previous reviews and brought hangers.
Very comfortable yet particularly warm rooms, although they do provide a stand alone air conditioner & a fan.
Really good REN products in the bathroom.
The staff could not have done more for us. They were incredible.
- Stephen (10/5): An unexpected special evening. - Me and my wife, often spend a night away per month as I work away a lot and we don’t spend enough time together. We had heard such good things about the Rock Salt Restaurant and wanted to give it a try. We were so happy when we found out they also have 4 rooms as well. Not our usual type of hotel room, but these rooms are “Boutique Bolt Holes”, small but so full of character. We enjoyed the whole experience so much and would recommend it to anyone, looking for a special evening. Our thanks to everyone for a great evening.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent stay and dinner at Rocksalt would recommend - best service experienced in a long while!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a lovely stay at Rocksalt. Our room overlooked the water and a seafood purveyor. The sound of the seagulls was alarming at first, but then completely lovely and enjoyable. Room and wet room were small but adequate, and the restaurant was amazing and not to be missed! The service was wonderful and the style of the room was lovely. We would definitely stay here again.
