Guest Reviews
- Paula (9/5): Amazing to experience the wilds of Tasmania in plush surroundings - Magic to just be sharing if one other couple. We had our choice of lounge and fireplace but came together for meals. The beauty of travelling in the off season.
- Marija (10/5): Awesome awesome awesome ! - Bec was phenomenal in her passion and knowledge of the area. She made us feel welcome and safe. The accommodation was awesome but team made it so much more enjoyable ! I appreciate the need to not bring your own food and drinks due to licensing however it does add up when you stay there over a few nights. It was still very enjoyable though and I’d do it again! It actually in a way made the experience great because I didn’t have to think about cooking.
W obiekcie panuje przyjemna atmosfera. Obsługa bardzo miła, Eden dbała, aby niczego nam nie brakowało. To niesamowicie otwarta i uprzejma dziewczyna 🫶
Wad brak 🩷
- Linda (10/5): Wonderful Experience in a Very Special Place - Very special place! A rare opportunity to see Tasmanian Devil’s and Spotted Quolls in the wild. Thank you Bec for making this great experience happen. Nothing.
- Juliet (9/5): Amazing escape to a remote location. Perfect for those of us who appreciate the Wildernesse and want to escape the moder - Bec is a wonderful host. This place is wonderful. We loved the remoteness and wildlife of this place. The room and social spaces were so relaxing. Loved escaping from WiFi and mobile signal. Nothing. It’s all wonderful.
- L1375VTmikeg (10/5): A Magical Place - I recently returned home from a 4-night stay at Thousand Lakes Lodge in Tasmania's Central Plateau, and it was the trip of a lifetime! This remote lodge is a magical place highlighted by the incredible and professional staff and the amazing leadership and kindness of lodge manager, Ms. Bec. Spending long days exploring and fly fishing in this special land is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and upon returning to the lodge, a sanctuary of comfort awaits. In looking back at the trip, I only wish I could have stayed longer than 4-nights: If you are planning on a visit, I highly recommend you consider staying a bit longer than you initially intend...you will not regret it!
- Ronald (10/5): Great staff, very helpful. Fantastic location in the middle of nowhere, surprisingly comfortable. - Very nice breakfast, options to order, great staff, very helpful. Fantastic location in the middle of nowhere, surprisingly comfortable. Many animal views.
- Tina (9/5): Beautiful location and great way to see Tasmania’s wildlife - Great experience with the wildlife and the overall ambience Nil
- Dean (10/5): -
- Steven (10/5): A wild adventure in luxurious comfort with good friends. - The remote location, breathtaking landscapes, natural wonders and wild native animals are some of the highlights. But above that, the staff make you feel that this is your ancestral family home. Nothing. It’s perfect
- Louisa (10/5): Fabulous stay if the weather plays ball I would say! - A very different stay! Absolutely middle of nowhere but with some mobile connectivity. Loads of wallabies, pademelons, wombats and we did also see a Tasmanian devil and a juvenile eastern quoll. Great viewing room inside the lodge. Great for dark sky/aurora. Food was lovely - home comfort stuff - and honesty bar well stocked. Nothing we didn’t like but if you’re renting a car, suggest an SUV or something with clearance as tracks quite rough in parts. Be prepared for 13km of gravel road to access the lodge.
- garyl95 (10/5): Just a great experience - Great place with amazing staff. Very special place. such an amazing experience, even if only for 2 nights. Can recommend for anyone wanting to experience the central highlands of Tasmania.
- Julian (10/5): Relaxing environment to enjoy some time in nature - The location was absolutely spectacular surrounding by beautiful landscapes and stunning wildlife, the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. A perfect warm base to hide from the wind and rain
- Stephen Boehm (10/5): -
- Linda (9/5): Fantastic remote location and facilities for experiencing local nature and animals. - Amazing, luxurious accommodation in a unique remote location with great walks, and incredible native animals Meals, especially breakfast options, were average, but otherwise was an amazing experience.
- Carol (9/5): Amazing location and wildlife. - Amazing location, loved how remote it is. The wildlife was amazing, excellent to see wild tasmanian devils, wombats, spotted quolls, etc. up close. The lodge was very comfortable and the meals were excellent. Far too much information was given on arrival, before we had even fully checked in. It was overwhelming, particularly as we were expected to take it all in. I understand that the host was passionate about the location and wildlife and she did acknowledge that she gets carried away with the details when welcoming guests.
- suzannep560 (10/5): Thousand Lakes Lodge in the Central Plateau - Our stay at Thousand Lakes Lodge was nothing short of magical. The lodge is situated in the heart of the Central Plateau. Driving into the area is almost like entering another world and the further you venture, the more incredible it becomes! A land of colour, teeming with wildlife and places to explore.
The lodge itself is beautiful and is a wonderful base to return to each night after a day of exploration. Our meals were lovely and the lounge is the perfect place to sit back and relax and watch the night unfold.
Our host, Bec was so much more than a host. Her passion for the Central Plateau and all it holds is both amazing and inspiring. Bec shared her love and knowledge of the area and its wildlife which made our stay so memorable.
We can’t wait to return and explore more of this magical area.
- Ian (10/5): Great experience - For someone looking for the wilderness experience in comfort this is the place, we spotted wallabies, Qual and Tassie devils all just outside the lodge. Bec was a fantastic host who welcomed us and my service dog with open arms. highly recommend this stay
- mattcA134UJ (10/5): A place like no other. - Honestly lost for words…
Thousand Lakes Lodge was everything I had hoped for and much more.
I write this review as I sit in the Hobart airport reflecting on an incredible week in the Tasmanian central plateau.
Thousand Lakes Lodge is the ultimate place to base yourself if you are looking for a true wilderness experience in areas of Australia most people have never stepped foot.
The wildlife and wild places are breath taking with a photo opportunity at every blink.
The building itself is a beautiful combination of history and comfort. Having stayed in September the lodge was quiet with one day we had the place to ourselves.
My wife and I enjoyed every meal in the lodge with portion sizes impressive.
The staff were extremely attentive and professional with Bec bending over backwards to ensure we had an enjoyable experience.
If you are looking for an escape like no other I cannot recommend Thousand Lakes Lodge more.
Step away from technology, wifi and the craziness of life to reflect, unwind and connect with nature.
- mikeandkeelyn (10/5): Couldn’t ask for more :) - Another truly wonderful stay at Thousand Lakes lodge. As usual we were made to feel very welcome, loved the hospitality and food. The lodge always feels home from home for me, so glad I was finally able share this experience with my partner. It’s an extremely cozy, comfortable environment, especially when you are treated to some snow flurries! A must visit when travelling to Tasmania!
- Roberto (10/5): Lovely - Comfort, feel, attention, cleanliness, location
- lyndal (10/5): We could have stayed twice as long and it still wouldn’t have been long enough. - The moment we arrived we felt connected to the property and the surroundings. Our host Bec made us feel completely at home and relaxed in what is an absolutely beautiful facility. Can’t think of a thing.
- Lee (10/5): - The staff, Bec, who is a very passionate and caring person. Thanks very much for her travel tips and her excellent hospitality service. My wife and I spent two unforgettable nights here. The unique location there allows us to experience the quiet atmosphere and to live in the nature with wild animals hanging around just outside the lodge. We also saw the spectacular view of lake and mountains, beautiful sunset and galaxy at night. These two nights definitely will be at our heart forever.
- Kimberley (10/5): Relaxing stay - We loved the journey to the lodge and enjoyed our stay immensely, the lodge was clean and homely and provided an uninterrupted haven in the middle of some beautiful landscapes - we only stayed one night, but hope to return and enjoy the area more.
- Louisa (10/5): Already dreaming of our return…. - Although our stay was a short one this time, we felt truly grateful to have the experience of staying at this incredible place. The landscape is strikingly beautiful and so different to anything we’ve seen elsewhere in Australia. I was excited to see a quoll or tassie devil in the wild and we were so fortunate to see both. In fact thanks to Bec we were able to watch a devil for several minutes just outside the window, which was very special and a wonderful memory. We loved everything. Some advice for fellow guests is simply to understand the environment you are coming in to. It’s a unique location and as such there are certain things that have to be in place to enable the lodge to run smoothly and to protect this special area. Bec is obviously really passionate about the area and we really appreciated her knowledge, care and concern.
- Stuart (10/5): Fantastic and unique. - Beautiful, magical lodge. So welcoming and comfortable. Bec, catered to our every need, and even though walking options were temporarily limited by the park service, we had three days of spectacular walking in a unique and dazzling environment. We also saw incredible wildlife. No place quite like this anywhere. Nothing.
- Gayle (6/5): A Thousand Lakes were condensed to only one! If you want wild and isolated this is for you - Location very isolated - loved it The property itself is great however due to Parks Tasmania running a project at the time of our stay we were unable to explore the surrounding areas which was a big part of why we chose to stay here.
There were too many rules and restrictions being enforced during our stay.
It’s not cheap to stay here so we expected a discount on our fee paid.
- Steff (10/5): A Solo Escape to Tasmania’s Hidden Gem - My stay at Thousand Lakes Lodge was truly exceptional. The lodge offers a wonderfully tranquil and warm atmosphere—exactly what I was hoping for to escape the busyness of everyday life. Surrounded by breathtaking highland scenery, it’s the perfect spot to relax and reconnect with nature.
My room was cozy and comfortable, and the lodge itself has a beautiful alpine charm. The fireplace in the lounge added beautifully to the atmosphere, creating a warm and welcoming space.
The food was excellent—fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented at every meal. A real highlight!
A special mention must go to the staff, who are absolute assets to the lodge. Their friendliness, attentiveness, and local knowledge made my solo stay feel welcoming and special. The only downside!! I couldn’t convince the staff to adopt me
- Breaha (10/5): Time out in the wilderness - We loved our stay at the Lodge. It was a wonderful experience and we will return. Bec was so welcoming as was Jill, letting us know the run of the place and ordering meals.
As a big fan of wilderness places but with comfort, the Lodge is ideal. Large spaces with comfortable cosy couches meant you can interact with others or keep to yourself. Huge windows draw your eyes constantly to the out doors where there is always an animal or two or three to see! This is a protected place and must be treated as such. Bec has a wealth of knowledge and passion about the Plateau.
Our food was most enjoyable with a good range to choose from. Our room was beautifully clean bed comfy and cosy. We got the last room available and although we had our own bathroom it was down the hall. Dressing gowns provided. This is due to the layout limits of the building that used to be an Antartic training centre. Fear not if you get in early there are en suite rooms!
We explored lakes, hiked a little, had a picnic at Iibotts hut by the lake, relaxed with books, chatted to other guests from all over. I could have done with another couple of nights but alas had to return home.
Thank you to Bec, Jill and the other young lass, sorry didn't get your name, our stay was magical and very much needed.
- T7658FKjohng (10/5): Return visit - This was my second time at the lodge, came up with friends after staying here with my partner last year.it truly is a special place, rooms are spotless, the communal areas are comfortable and spacious. The host Bec is very knowledgeable and very friendly and happy to help you plan to do as much or as little as you please.
We went hiking, had a picnic, star gazed and saw some incredible wild life. We also just sat around in our pyjamas and read our books . This is a remote and wild environment but the lodge provides a welcome refuge at the end of a long day meandering the vast network of trails. I can’t wait to get back again, it was truly peaceful and a wonderful place to get away from technology and have recharge from a busy work schedule. Definitely book at least 2 nights to appreciate the care and professionalism from the staff into ensuring the stay is what you want it to be. Thanks again Bec and team
- H7989ZHgrantd (10/5): 2nd time staying in this amazing part of Tassie - This was our 2nd trip to Thousand Lakes Lodge and it had everything we loved from our 1st trip. Beautiful scenery, amazing wildlife and the chance to switch off. Bec is a fabulous host with so much to share and the lodge has everything you need.
- Jenni (10/5): Wonderful experience from beginning to end! - We had the most beautiful few days at Thousand Lakes Lodge. Upon arrival we received a warm welcome and orientation from Bec the incredibly knowledgeable Lodge Manager. The history and location of the Lodge is unique with lots of different walks, drives and combinations enabling everyone to choose their adventure and pace. The flora, vistas and sunsets experienced during our walks, from the comfort of the Den and Lounge common areas were wondrous. We saw quolls, wombats, wallabies, tassie devils (first time seeing them in the wild!) and platypus. The rooms were clean and cosy and the bed so comfy. The food was great and we enjoyed the open bar honesty system. When we returned home, we immediately booked to return in a few months to experience this amazing place in the colders/winter months. A place for all seasons!
- Bill (10/5): Exceptional - The solitude and quietness, seeing a Tassie Devil out our windows. Learning about the area and the original reason why the lodge was created and then restored. Would go back again.
- Coline (5/5): Businesslike. - Location Dark & not welcoming. It was cold outside and cool inside but the fire in the main lounge/dining room was not lit at all.
The staff were focused on processes rather than making people feel comfortable and welcomed. Brisk & abrupt.
- Traveler55516094289 (10/5): A beautiful escape - We recently stayed at Thousand Lakes lodge to kick off our Honeymoon in Tasmania. From the moment we walked in to the lodge, we felt comfortable and at home. Bec was incredibly welcoming and her knowledge and passion of the plateau and conservation of the bush was apparent. The lodge is absolutely stunning and surrounded by so many animals we were lucky to see throughout the day and night. Even at the end of our stay, Bec took the time to offer us information about what else we could see and helped us plan our next adventures towards the coast. I know we and many others lucky enough to stay here - past and future, appreciate the genuine connection and care Bec has for her guests.
We also had the pleasure of a guided day trout fishing with Pete who was absolutely amazing! His knowledge of the lakes and the surrounding area meant we got to learn so much about fishing, nature and the animals we came across. We got to see parts of the plateau/Lakes we wouldn’t have got to explore otherwise and by the end of the day, he felt like a mate we’d known for years! Cheers Pete for an awesome day fishing.
Thanks again Bec and team for an amazing stay, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to begin our celebration and will definitely be back in the years to come.
- Beverley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (10/5): best of both worlds-a comfortable wilderness style Lodge situated in a beautiful, unspoiled location - Location is amazing, quiet, surrounded by lakes and beautiful unspoiled alpine landscape within a Heritage Wilderness area
Seeing local wildlife; walking and exploring the many facets of this area; able to see the brilliant night sky and a chance to see the Aurora Australis
Atmosphere of the Lodge-communal areas to share meals and chat, or quiet areas to sit and read. Very clean and well maintained.
Staff-manager Bec is personable and very passionate and knowledgeable about the environment. Very helpful in planning our days and making our stay memorable
Meals were great with good choice, especially for a semi remote location
- Westerner (10/5): Exceptional and unique lodge in a wilderness area. - It was amazing to experience such comfort in such a remote location. Walking in alpine vegetation, seeing wildlife up close and a silent night's sleep were highlights.
- 816louiseb (10/5): Wonderful special unique alpine experience! - This is a wonderfully comfortable lodge located in an unique landscape of alpine vegetation and native wildlife. We stayed two nights and it exceeded our expectations in all respects. The lodge is expertly managed by the wonderful Bec who was so generous in sharing her knowledge and experience of the Central Plateau and she recommended hiking trails and areas to view the wildlife and experience the silence of the lakes. The lodge is so warm and comfortable and has two communal rooms with front row seats to the nightly animal parade outside. All the food was delicious and dining with other guests was a delight. Our room was clean, warm and the bed so comfortable. This is a special kind of place, very remote and fragile, come to appreciate the amazing ecosystems of the alpine central plateau!
- Sightseer10108342060 (10/5): A blend of rugged wilderness and cosy luxury - do it! - I've been hiking out on the remote central plateau for 35 odd years now - flyfishing with a backpack and a compass. In the last decade though, the old Antartic Training Base has been revamped and shaped into a fantastic wilderness lodge. Luxury right on the porch of the wilderness. I could go on about the fireplace, the lounge rooms, the bar, the telescopes, the fantastic food, etc - but for me, the highlight is resident host extraordinaire - Bec Smith. Bec, surely has a PHD in Central Plateau geology, botany and biology - she has hiked it, tasted it, smelled it, photographed it and more. A real treasure, Bec makes the place all that more special for her unbridled passion and love for what can only be described as a unique part of this spinning-marble that we all frolick upon. Go stay there, go chat with Bec - you will treasure the memory.
- Shauna (10/5): Perfect Getaway - This was a very unexpected treat. We loved the accommodation, the food, service and location. The lodge had an interesting history and we loved the comfortable beds, cleanliness of the lodge and the two large communal lounges. What made this accommodation stand out from others was BEC, Bec was amazing, I cannot speak more highly of her, She provided everyone with an unique experience. Bec was incredibly warm, personable, efficient, knowledgeable and a complete wildlife warrior.
Whilst there I got to see Tassie Devils, Quolls, Wallabies, Platypus and Wombats... could not be happier. Definitely would love to revisit. I loved it all - it was perfect!
- Detlef (10/5): This accomadation is the pearl of Tasmania - Location within nature, limited number of guests due to room capacity, Customized breakfast, extremly unique and special spot There was nothing to complain at all
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional - An outstanding and unique experience like no other in Tasmania. Bec the manager was welcoming and very helpful. The dinner was fabulous, a very enjoyable experience.
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- robmO2408RX (10/5): Thousand Lakes Lodge - The experience was fantastic… Bec, the very personable host, was exceptional, warm and welcoming.
Bec and the team made sure everyone’s experience and expectations were surpassed.
The evening experience, from the lounge after dinner, watching the wildlife, Tassie Devils, Wallabies, Wombats and those Quolls… brilliant..
Exceptional food, wines, spirits and beers…
The accommodations were excellent, amenities and everything was great.
A fantastic place to relax and enjoy great company, walks or just chilling.
My highest recommendation….
- 970alisonv (10/5): An unexpected highlight to our Tasmanian Trip - We had an amazing few days off the grid exploring the wonderful landscape of the Central Plateau of Tasmania thanks to 1000 Lakes Lodge. The accommodation and meals were above our expectations and Bec went way above and beyond. She's so generous with her time, knowledge and skills (including taking aurora photos for us!) We were given delicious picnic lunches as we explored the local walks, and the gorgeous shack on the secluded beach. The wild animals and landscape are so well respected and taken care of for us all to enjoy. This stay was an unexpected highlight to our trip. Highly recommend a visit. We'll definitely be back!
- Makiko (10/5): Exceptional - Extraordinary unique nature in remote area.
Bec helped us so much to ensure that we had the best experience! No complaints. This lodge is so unique that they are challenging to be self-sufficient in a beautiful yet severe nature. You are not paying for the luxury but the fascinating experience!
- susanwV6667BI (10/5): Perfect stay in the Heart of Tasmania - An amazing place to get off the grid, unwind and explore the unique alpine landscape of the Central Plains Conservation Area. Nicknamed the “Heart of Tasmania,” I am so glad we visited here. The lodge is nicely I integrated into the landscape and you don’t have to go far to see amazing wildlife- quolls, Tasmanian devils and wallabies! The amenities were far beyond my expectation for a lodge. Bec helped us individualize our stay so I could stay in and be cozy in the library while reading about Tasmanian culture and history while my partner went trout fishing in glacial lakes all around the region. There are many beautiful walks to enjoy and great places to sit and draw too. Picnic lunches and meals were great. Wonderful wines, whiskeys and coffee too!
- Geoff2610 (9/5): Superb -
- Chet (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roman (1/5): Bad and very expensive! You're being cheated. - Nothing! The hotel is not worthy of attention! Avoid this place. All reviews and ratings are a scam to lure tourists.
There are enough beautiful places and hotels in Tasmania, choose any of them but not this hotel.
- Michael (10/5): We travel wildly. 1000 Lakes Lodge would have to be in our 3 top places!! - Unique- location, history, Bec was the ultimate host with her knowledge of the area.. she was just amazing. Would have liked a later checkout. 11am?
- Liz (10/5): We wanted to experience the Tasmanian wilderness and location wise on the Central plateau the lodge was perfectly situat - Totally surrounded by wilderness on the Central Plateau. Local walks and short drives gave us access to pristine wilderness from which to see native wildlife.
A fun picnic excursion was wonderful beside a fishing shack and surrounded by silence. Magical. Gorgeous sunsets over a nearby lake. It would’ve been good to have had access to the internet even for just a couple of hours am/pm to keep in touch with elderly relatives.
- Gerard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (9/5): Superb -
- Degang (10/5): Exceptional -
- yvesmarieo (10/5): One night in clear night sky and wildlife paradise - We had a terrific time in the Thousand Lake Lodge. Beautifully located in the middle of nowhere, amazing for clear night sky and wildlife lovers ! Do not hesitate to adventure outside of the lodge at sunset/night with one of the maglights and a very wam coat put at your disposition! Or just enjoy the wildlife from the main living area.
We were welcomed by Bec who gave us tips to better discover the area and Tasmania in general. Thank you again Bec for making our stay so special :)
Happy new year !
- Denis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- louie56 (10/5): A unique & special place - We knew within 30 mins this place was something special & we needed to stay longer than our one night booking. The lodge was exactly what we’d hoped for and Becs warm welcome, vast knowledge & passion for the raw beauty of the area, made it all the more memorable. We felt spoilt but ‘at home’ in the best way during our 2 night stay & it was definitely hard to leave.
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Angela (9/5): Unique and special experience in an amazing place - Off the grid, unique and beautiful experience in a special part of Tasmania. Perfect for nature and outdoor lovers. We decided within 30 minutes that we needed to stay an extra night and loved every minute. Rooms were comfortable & the food was delicious. Bec was a wonderful host and made our stay so memorable.
- Peter (10/5): our stay was excellent. - Location was great breakfast was great. It was amazing accomadation.
- Ollie (9/5): Serenity, Nature, Quolls and Tassie Devils - Sooooo Good - The layout and set up of the property are fabulous. A chance to meet fellow travellers at communal meals (excellent food) was an added bonus.
An opportunity to see some unique Australian animals in their natural state. Tassie devils and quolls are not seen everywhere - very special. The walking and natural aspects of the property were unmatched. I would have liked wifi. No I do not need to be connected 24/7 but wifi available for an hour before breakfast and after dinner would have given us the chance to stay in touch with elderly parents who have medical issues.
- Deni (10/5): Worthwhile - Absolutely loved the location/remoteness.
The lodge was spectacular as was the food.
Beck was a fabulous host and made sure we saw the Big4 of the local wildlife….
Spotted Quolls, Wombats, Wallabies and the Tassie Devils - all in close proximity to the lodge. Having to leave…we only had the one night.
- Susan (10/5): Like being welcomed in a friend’s house - Location and wildlife. Cannot say enough nice things about Bec and her wonderful hospitality.
- Sasja (10/5): Exceptional -
- shaunntan (10/5): Amazingly special - Be prepared for a unique experience that you will not find anywhere else. Bec took great care of us while we escaped from reality over the few nights we stayed at the lodge. She kept us warm, fed and safe, and imparted to us her extensive knowledge of the area before we trekked through our own journey in the plateau. At the end of each day, you’ll return to an immaculate safe haven for a good nights rest before your next adventure. Thank you, Bec. I’ll be back soon.
- Nadine (10/5): Perfect location, lodge and host - It is very homely. Not a busy resort more a quiet lodge feel. Bec the host is amazing nothing was a problem and she is extremely knowledgeable about the area. We are going back next year it was the ultimate switch off from the world and recharge the body’s battery! Nothing
- Karina (10/5): Exceptional - emEverything was amazing, view, lodge, food, rooms. but the person who greeted us on arrival, because we arrived early, she was abrupt, unfriendly, she chastised us several times because we came early. i almost left the place. She went on and on, didn't you you check your info on email, re arrival time. you cant stay here even in lounge until ive cleaned the plasee and check-in is as 2pm no earlier.
- 52wolfgangd (10/5): taking comfort in nature - Just wonderful from the moment we walked through the door to the moment when we sadly had to leave. Spotted quolls, devils and wallabies as your neighbours. We were extremely well looked after, Bec (host) was wonderful, catering to our needs with great knowledge of the area and advice to suitable activities and areas to visit.
I can highly recommend staying here.
The lodge itself is wonderful and the set up is excellent with the two main lounges providing ample room to relax after a day on the plateau.
The rooms were wonderful and had plenty of room, so comfortable.
Both my wife and I really enjoyed our stay here, it was such a wonderful experience
Be patient and you might see the platypus in the local area too.
- Angela (10/5): Very peaceful location - The lodge is clean, comfortable and very peaceful. It has 2 log fires which we thoroughly enjoyed. There are native animals living in close proximity. We saw wombats, Tasmanian devils, wallabies and quolls. The food is also good. The long, dirt road to the lodge is in poor condition and full of pot holes.
- Meg (10/5): An experience I will never forget - Remote, beautiful location. The lodge was warm, inviting and beautifully decorated.
Our just Bec was just wonderful. Both my husband and I felt that Bec really took care of us. We valued her knowledge of the area and appreciated her warmth and hospitality.
We were able to see a spotted quoll family up close - this was a wonderful memory that we will hold dear for many years.
Thank you Bec for taking such great care of us.
The lodge is truly a unique experience but one I will never forget.
- mikeandkeelyn (10/5): 10/10 as always! - Third trip to the lodge, and a wonderful stay as always. It’s lovely to visit this region during different seasons. I was treated to snow on this occasion and thoroughly enjoyed photographing the local wallabies. Highly recommend spending at least two nights here to really soak up everything the lodge and local region has to offer. Bec was a brilliant host as ever, can’t wait to head back soon!
- Zoie (10/5): jaw-droppingly beautiful! - One of the highlights of our trip - seeing wildlife in nature!
we loved
staying here - serene and beautiful!
Bec is a sensational host and we loved it!
- rhiannons250 (10/5): A Winter Wonderland! - Such a magical place! We had the most amazing 2 night stay in the lodge, it felt like a winter wonderland. We saw so many animals on our walks and directly outside the lodge windows! We saw wombats, devils, quolls and wallabies, definitely recommend going on a night stroll around the lodge to see wildlife. The lodge is soo cosy, Bec is a wonderful host who has so much knowledge of the local area. Thanks so much to Bec and Lyle for making our stay so special, we even got a free upgrade and had the whole lodge to ourselves on one of the nights! Can't recommend this place highly enough if you love disconnecting in nature, beautiful walks and cosy stays.
- M6730TInateb (10/5): Relaxing getaway in central Tassie - I stayed here as part of a work trip, and I couldn't be happier!
The hosts were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We got served fantastic food and the lodge itself was very clean and always warm despite some cold temperatures outside. Plenty of exploring to do around the lodge but there's a great selection of movies and vinyl's if you prefer to relax inside. We stayed for two nights, and I can't wait to go back. Highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to escape to somewhere quiet for a while.
- Amanda (10/5): A magnificent place that provides warmth, calm and relaxation in the middle of the wilderness. - A spectacular wilderness location which encompasses the heart of Tasmania. Such breathtaking experiences of weather, landscape and creatures that truly reflect the state. The warm and informed staff welcomed us wholeheartedly as the only guests on site. This was greatly admired and we felt quite special with our own warmly lit lounge and dining area to just relax in. As those escaping the heat of FNQ each year to experience the cold of Tassie, we certainly got a blast here with snow falling at night and the next morning. We
will book for two nights next time as Thousand Lakes Lodge is a place to really unwind and be at peace. Thank you.🙏🏻 Nothing.
- erica112024 (10/5): Perfect Winter Accommodation - This alpine lodge in Tasmania is incredible and an absolute hidden gem. The perfect place to rest and relax after a day of bushwalking in winter. Absolutely stunning shared living spaces with wood fires, comfy couches to enjoy reading, watching movies, playing board games or listening to music. The meals are generous and delicious provided by a welcoming, friendly knowledgeable Host. Will definitely be staying at Thousand Lakes lodge again but for longer next time.

We were a group of 12 who stayed at Thousand Lodges for a couple of days as a "team retreat" and it's been magical!
The food and service were outstanding, with some incredible wildlife to see!
Will definitely be back here!
