Rudi and his wife, sorry forgot her name, were the perfect hosts and going back for a second stay is no problem at all. Lovely place and people. Nothing we can think of 10 out of 10.

Svetlana (10/5): - The Gables guesthouse is located approximately a 15-minute walk from the Hermanus center in a very quiet area. A great advantage is the swimming pool, which is perfect for cooling off on a hot day. It's not very large, but it's deep. The patios of the rooms are separated from each other by greenery, so guests feel a sense of privacy. There is secure parking available on the guesthouse grounds. The owners, Rudi and Robyn, are very friendly and attentive. We recommend this guesthouse for a peaceful and relaxing stay.
Gale (10/5): Gorgeous guest house, perfectly situated within walking distance of the cliff.. - The room was spacious and beautifully furnished with a lovely view out to the garden and swimming pool. The hosts were very welcoming, and even gave us a lovely gift of wine and cookies on Christmas day. The pool area is fabulous, each unit has 2 loungers and an umbrella so we spent a couple of days just lounging and swimming. A great addition would be a one plate counter top induction plate in the kitchenette to boil an egg etc.

The kitchenette was adequate and free wi-fi was good. Lovely little pool in the garden for cooling off and each room has a nice patio with chairs and sun loungers. Secure parking provided in front garden. Excellent location for a gentle 10 minute walk to the main restaurant area on the waterfront. We enjoyed our stay and had no issues.

Cécile (10/5): - Superbe chambre d’hôtes chez Rudy! Chambre spacieuse, bien équipée et très propre, qui donne directement sur la piscine avec terrasse privée. La maison est très belle, paisible, et à quelques minutes du cliff path. Rudy nous accueille et prend le temps de nous expliquer ce qu’il ne faut pas rater à Hermanus. Toujours disponible. Super rapport qualité prix !

Diana (8/5): Back to the Gables - We returned after 3 years because we liked the secure set up, the large comfortable room and the garden with own patios for the 4 units, loungers and the pool. Nothing really although we had some issues with the tv, which never really worked.

Alina (9/5): Entspannte Tage in zentraler Lage - gerne wieder. - Wir haben uns bei Rudi im The Gables Hermanus super wohl gefühlt. Das Apartment ist sehr geräumig und mit allem ausgestattet was es benötigt. Zudem besteht die Möglichkeit direkt in den Garten zu gelangen und sich dort am Pool auf seiner zugehörigen Terrasse bei gutem Wetter aufzuhalten. Die Lage der Unterkunft ist super, wir haben während unserer Tage alles fußläufig erreichen können und waren nie länger als 15-20 Minuten unterwegs. Zudem hat Rudi uns mit vielen hilfreichen Tipps und Unternehmungen versorgt. Wir können die Unterkunft nur weiterempfehlen und würden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen.

We were staying over Christmas and they gave us a lovely bottle of wine and some biscuits. It was very sweet and a lovely touch. Unfortunately the bathrooms aren’t designed very well with no shower door so water flooded into the bathroom and the bath mat was always soaking.

Jesse (9/5): Superb - Great room with handy kitchenette within walking distance of the harbour and cliff walk. The owner is very accommodating as well. The garden is lovely, with a private patio per room and a shared pool. We were sad to only stay one night. Nothing.
Gunter (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyable stay - The room was clean, comfortable, modern and had everything you could possibly need. Rudy was very helpful and accommodating. We braaied on Sunday and watched WC rugby. If you are looking for lovely accommodation near Fick's Pool and a short drive to the centre of Hermanus, then you can't go wrong with The Gables. We really enjoyed it as it's near our daughter and Spescare and we got to see whales while we were there. We will definitely be back. Unfortunately, due to heavy rains and burst pipes, Hermanus had no water that weekend. This was beyond Rudy's control but he was proactive and put a big bucket of water in the bathroom for washing etc. Only recommendation for future is to put water bottles in the fridge as well.

Vincent (4/5): - Accueil froid: remplir un questionnaire digne d’un interrogatoire de police. La chambre était OK mais rien d’extraordinaire (la vaisselle à disposition était sale). Emplacement du bâtiment et sécurité médiocres: situé à côté d’un bidon ville avec des individus étranges qui rôdent dans le quartier à toute heure de la journée et de la nuit. Une balade à pieds dans le patelin est impensable. Les murs des chambres sont extrêmement fins et peu/pas isolés.. on entend tout ce qui se passe dans les chambres autour et à l’extérieur! En plus il fait super froid la nuit, le froid rentre par les portes et les fenêtres.. le bâtiment n’est pas du tout étanche. Problème de rénovation évident, des grosses traces d’humidité au plafond en témoignent. Le propriétaire n’est pas aussi chaleureux que les locaux du pays et s’avère peu flexible voir rigide : nous avions demandé 1 grand lit double et nous avons eu 2 lits séparés.. il s’en foutait et n’avait aucune solution à proposer (meme simplement coller les 2 lits). Sans gêne et sans scrupule, il viendra vous déranger pour « avancer votre voiture de 10 millimètres » sous prétexte qu’il ne saurait pas sortir sa voiture du garage alors qu’il y a assez de place pour un hummer limousine.. et qu’il n’utilisera finalement pas sa voiture. Avec tout le respect, cet homme devrait penser à partir en retraite et laisser la gestion du bien à une équipe fraîche dont la satisfaction du client est la priorité.. ce qui n’est pas son cas.

Cam (9/5): Comfy bed & happy home for the weekend in Hermanus! - Really lovely little guest house, perfect for our weekend in Hermanus. Relatively close to "town", very quick drive and easy walk. Pretty blue swimmimg pool and lush garden. Our room was modern and clean. Really nice that the lights and TV stay on during loadshedding! The bed was spacious and very comfortable! Bathroom was a good size with a nice shower and toiletries. Kitchen was well stocked with good quality appliances, cutlery etc. Delicious rusks to go with our morning coffee. Our room was cleaned beautifully in the morning while we were out. Friendly & accommodating staff, we were allowed a slightly late check out on the Sunday too which was nice! No complaints, really. As a female, I felt very nervous walking back to the guest house from "town" at night. We decided to rather drive the second night. No fault of the guest house though, it's just life unfortunately. The walk is not far, but in the dark, I did feel nervous.

A great and comfortable stay in Hermanus if you don’t mind/like walking 15 mins to the center like we do. Only thing we slightly missed is airconditioning, during the hot nights. However, there was a fan on the roof which ensured it didn’t get too hot.
