- Matteo (10/5): - Villa Margerita is an amazing cozy place to stay. The owner and the staff are super nice and make you feel welcomed. We spent one night in transition from SJO to the Arenal but ai would have spent more days just relaxing in the area. Defintely a 5 star!

- Kelly (10/5): - This was the perfect place to stay after we landed in CR. We got there at 10:45 pm and we were greeted by our host Margarite and one of her super friendly dogs. We were offered food and beverages which was very kind of her at such a late hour. The room was more than we even needed and we had a great sleep. Breakfast was delicious and we headed out shortly thereafter to catch the Ferry to get to Santas Tresea. Perfect location not too far from the airport but you get out of the hustle and bustle and an easy drive from there to our next destination. Make sure you use Waze for directions. There is no sign at the road for the hotel but once you get down a short lane way you will see it!
- William (10/5): - Very calm and besutiful
- Dewi (10/5): Great value quirky place. - Lovely rustic place. Great host. Good breakfast.
- Christine (10/5): - The host was very nice and super accommodating. The breakfast was good too. It’s a traditional Costa Rican location within 15 minutes from the airport.
- Aleksandra (10/5): - Nice hotel, very friendly staff
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not great - I am quite surprised by the many good reviews - my experience was a bit different. We arrived late and were greeted by somebody who immediately wanted to upsell us on a room that really wasn’t much different. The room itself: small, the glass sliding door was tough to operate, the gate could not close because of alignment issues, the light switch cover fell off the wall, there were dead bugs on the side of the bed, and there was no water coming from the shower. We did not ask for help since we didn’t really have much time there, but for the price we paid we did expect more …
Having said that, the grounds were cute, lots of flowers, nice walkways, and seating areas.
- russell (10/5): - Margarite was a friendly and amazing host who greeted us personally as soon as we arrived. She was over the top accommodating in all aspects of our stay! We love animals so we enjoyed her dogs and cats and chickens running all over the place! Her breakfasts were great and the whole place was very quaint and rustic. Even in August it was cool on the mountain so having no air conditioning was not a problem.
- Brandy (10/5): - The property is beautiful and cute. I would definitely stay here again.
- Kevin (10/5): Charming and so welcoming! - This is a very welcoming place to stay with friendly pets - made us feel at home although had all the character of a costa rican villa! We would book here again in a heartbeat! My boys loved the extra space on the grounds and breakfast and patios with hammocks were a treat!
- Nicole (10/5): Great place! - It is a very cute place with a lovely pool, beautiful grounds, a very attentive hostess, friendly service and staff and good breakfast. Lots of attention to detail. Overall very comfortable and I will definitely stay there again.
- Deirdre (10/5): - Our 1st time in Costa Rica for a family wedding. Stayed here because it was only 20 minutes from the Int’l Airport after a long day of travel and another day of driving ahead. Margarita is an excellent hostess/owner who was very helpful and kind. Her property is “boho-chique” with rescue dogs that act as ambassadors and chickens that lay eggs for guests to dine on at breakfast; which was excellent, fresh and included with the stay. The tower & view of the volcano was spectacular, pool was nice & clean to cool down in, bar/dining area lends great vibes. Rooms were clean, comfortable & decorated in fun rainforest themes with giant fans to cool you off (no air conditioning) so you could hear the nights creatures singing you to sleep. It was such a wonderful experience that we booked to stay with her on our last night before we left. A truly special place. Highly recommend.
- Clay (10/5): Thank you Margarita! - This was another ordinary hotel. I thought I was just reserving a place to crash after we arrived on a late flight into San Jose, but it was such an oasis! I can’t say enough about Margarita, who welcomed us late at night and cooked us delicious dinner. Then, the next morning, there was strolling around the beautiful property, lounging with coffee on the patio, swimming, and another delicious breakfast. What an amazing hostess and property! our four-year-old was in heaven playing on the playground, with the chickens and the dogs, and just enjoying the Pura Vida hospitality.
- Lindsey (10/5): Wonderful - Such a fun place to stay for our first night in Costa Rica! Place was gated and felt safe. Family room was perfect for 2 adults and 3 teens. Gorgeous setting- lots of birds and beautiful flowers! Very sweet host and yummy made-to-order breakfast.
- Michael (10/5): Out in the wilds - Nice country location
- Jaime (10/5): - Amazing locatio. From the city perfect lil hideaway and margarita is so helpful and such a joy to get to know!! Definitely recommend!!
- Juan Angel (6/5): - The owner keep 6 dogs that are every where in te restaurant
- Ashley (10/5): - We spent a wonderful night at Villa Margarita. Margarita made us a delicious breakfast and we both really enjoyed the pool and our beautiful room. Also really loved having all the sweet dogs around. Would love to come back and would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing place to stay.
- Andrea (4/5): - The rooms do not have doors only sliding glass doors. You cannot lock the door from the inside that I could tell. The lock was a padlock with key on the outside. No air conditioning so windows left open. Very noisy due to dogs on property and can hear everything due to close proximity to the gathering area. Margarita is lovely and welcoming.
- Craig (10/5): - The lady that greeted us was amazing it was late walked us to the door of our room offered to make us something to eat cause everything was closed. Great experience.
- Mindy (10/5): - Beautiful and unique property with everything you need to start or end your trip off right.
- Candace (10/5): - We absolutely loved our stay at Villa Margarita. We needed a place for 1 night close to San Jose Airport and this place was perfect! Our complimentary breakfast the following morning was wonderful! We would highly recommend Villa Margarita to anyone needing a place in the area!
- Timothy (10/5): - Villa Margarita is the dream of a kind Dutch woman who, along with an excellent staff and several rescue dogs, does everything she can to make her guests feel like friends visiting her home rather than just staying in the hotel. The grounds are lush with tropical landscaping, the common outdoor dining area is the focus where delicious breakfasts are served and strangers become friends over a cold beer. The rooms are simple, but cozy (she could upgrade the pillows, however). The swimming pool is relaxing and the bustle and chaos of San Jose seems many miles away even though Villa Margarita is just 10 minutes from the international airport. Our family had a fantastic time there. The "zoo" Rescue center is just around the corner. This made our trip even better. Highly recommended over staying in the city. Tranquil and awesome.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Margarita is an absolute gem and Villa Margarita is such a special place. It was our first stop after our flight and before our drive to the Caribbean coast. Lush gardens, Bohemian decor, and incredible food and coffee. Highly recommend!
- Gayle (10/5): - Lovely staff and property. We arrived late in the evening and they happily served us a late dinner.
- Summer (10/5): Hidden Gem - Though not easy to find after dark, this place is exceptional. The room was clean and inviting and the hospitality was second to none. We will absolutely stay again in the future.
- Ivan (10/5): Charming and cozy stay with Margarita - Staying at Margarita"s place was delightful. The place is charming and the rooms are very cozy. I was travelling with my family of 4 and this place hit the spot for one night to gather energy and keep going. If you are looking for a hotel experience this might not be for you but if you want something like a B&B with character then it will strike all the right chirds. And if you like dogs you will get an extra bonus.
- Anna (10/5): - We arrived late but Margarita was waiting for us and was very welcoming . Breakfast was delicious and kids had fun walking around and playing at the playground. Our family room was huge!!
- Jed Matthew (10/5): - Great host. We will be back.
- Paul (10/5): - This is a must visit! Owner makes you feel like family! Beautiful property and amazing stay.
- Jordan (10/5): - Really nice place and the attention was perfect
- Chris (8/5): - Very helpful and friendly owner. Simple, clean accommodations and a lovely breakfast.
- CLAUDIO (10/5): - I love how quiet this place is, the rooms are huge and her owner will help you with whatever you need.
The best Place to relax and rest.
- Trevor (10/5): - The owner, Margarita was very welcoming and kind to our family. We got in at night for checkin from a late flight and had a rough time getting our 4 yo son settled in the room. Margarita was patient and kind to help us get acquainted to the room. Just made a difficult situation much easier to handle. Thank you so much for a wonderful first night on our Costa Rican adventure!
- Celeste (8/5): Wonderful host, lovely spot. - Villa Margarita was wonderful. Margarita’s property is beautiful and she was a wonderful host. Her breakfast was fresh and delicious, with good, strong coffee. We will definitely return to Villa Margarita on our next rip to Costa Rica.
- Dave and Laura (4/5): - Margarite was lovely.
The dogs gathered around us as we ate our dinner.
- CHRIS (8/5): - Waze found property easily
- David (10/5): - Gorgeous and well maintained. Very clean and Margherita is the best!! We absolutely love her and her staff.
- prasoon (10/5): - This is one of the best properties we lived at on our trip to Costa Rica. The host lady stays at the property and was very warm and welcoming. She had a few rescue dogs that my kids enjoyed playing with. The breakfast in the morning was really good. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable. The property is very secure, gated and is very well maintained. The trees and plants made it all the more pleasing to stay here. Highly recommend staying at this property if you are visiting San Jose.
- Andrea (10/5): - Our night at Villa Margarita was a last-minute booking, but I am so glad that we found it! The hotel is not fancy, but comfortable and personal. I loved relaxing in the hammock and rocking chair on the patio outside of our room. Margarita and her staff are amazing! Everything was clean and comfortable, and the place had a wonderful family feel. Margarita made an amazing breakfast and even took me to town to a restaurant to get takeout dessert in the evening! I highly recommend staying here!
- CLAUDIO (10/5): - Villa Margarita is attended directly by her owner, she is always attentive so that your stay is the best. The place is ideal for resting, reading a good book or going to INCAE (it's next door). The rooms are spacious, ecofriendly but have all the required amenities.
The best option in Alajuela.
- Valerie (10/5): - The property was amazing! It was an amazing first night after a long travel day with our toddler. Beautiful property, a little play ground, and the host so accomdating.
We enjoyed the pool and view point in the morning. Excellent breakfast (and coffee!!) In the morning.
We can't recommend this place enough! Thanks for the stay!
- GIUSEPPE (10/5): - Margarita and her staff are exquisite people.
We loved being there.
The property is amazing, the room super clean, and the breakfast very good.
Five stars
- Monica (10/5): - Margarita is THE BEST host you could ask for!!! We only stayed one night and wish we had time to stay longer. The facility and restaurant and the grounds are beautiful and everyone is so accommodating and helpful! Highly recommend staying here.
