• Monique (2/5): Not what I expected and hosts not flexible. - The location was great. It was not nearly as fresh and clean as the ad photos indicated. There is a stain on the couch, many tiles are cracked, the walls are scuffed, the grout is stained and several floor tiles are loose. It is an odd layout of two separate apartments opening into the general building hallway rather than the connected two room apartment indicated. The downstairs has the kitchen while the upstairs has the eating area. The stairs are very steep and dangerous without railings and with trim that is loose indicating people have probably grabbed it for stability. Way more dangerous than the photos show. The tub has glass on the side you would normally enter from so you have to enter from the end and climb through the tub to put the plug in the drain. Before using it. Unless you are very small, your knees will hit the wall when you sit on the toilet in the lower unit. There is a very odd little room locked off from the entrance that looks like someone just stepped out for a moment, leaving their slippers there and will be back soon. It was unsettling. They are serious about their no refund policy. I had a medical emergency and had to leave after the first night but they would not refund any of our nights even though I canceled and they were able to rebook those nights.

• Mary (10/5): This apartment is well suited for two couples or a group of friends and is in a great location. - Loved the location with views of the river- enjoyed watching hawks, egrets, herons, walkers. Apartment is beautifully decorated and super functional. The stairs are steep with limited handrails.

• Carol (8/5): Lovely character, great view and location - The place was fantastic. Loved the location. Walking distance to Higashiyama and Gion District. But on the quieter side of the river. Had a very pretty canal running in front to walk along while leaving or returning to guest house. Lots of restaurants and bars around. Specific instructions to find it from hosts. The only downfall was the uncomfortable bed and pillow. Quite hard and difficult to sleep on. Made it difficult to get a good rest after big days. This guest house is not recommended for people who don’t like stairs. Didn’t bother us though. Everything else great.
