Guest Reviews
- Sandra (9/5): Good choice would book again - All staff very helpful and breakfast excellent. Room was comfy. Being very picky just the noise from upstairs room. Very creaky floorboards but didn't spoil our stay.

- Sandra (7/5): Nice location, friendly staff . Good food - Food was nice. Room bit tatty

- Eugen (10/5): Amazing - Very nice hotel and room
- Neil (8/5): - Friendly professional staff
- ben (2/5): Wonderful Staff, great restaurant, basic but clean rooms but very very noisy - The Staff were lovely, the location is great, plenty of parking amazing breakfast and the rooms are ok p is pointless the noise from other rooms is intolerable I was awake all night, every time anyone upstairs moved, rolled over or went to the toilet the floor creaked. it’s such a shame as this hotel would be wonderful for the price but I wouldn’t return as a hotel where you can’t sleep is pointless
- Mickey (10/5): -
- Angela (9/5): A few days at Rutland Water - Excellent staff and food. Room was pleasant. Great location and parking a bonus. Recommend the restaurant food and breakfast. Everything about our stay was lovely although perhaps a new mattress on the bed would be beneficial as some of the springs were coming through!!
A shame they ran out of butter on our last day!!!!
- Tara (9/5): - Quiet and comfortable. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent Indian food for dinner, and a delicious breakfast too. The village is absolutely gorgeous, making this a most relaxing and enjoyable stay. We liked all of it. Would recommend.
- Simon (9/5): We had a great stay but the heating was turned off in the bedrooms, brr! - We had a great stay. The accommodation block behind the pub is modern and convenient with adjacent parking. The restaurant, a mix of Indian and traditional British options, is really first rate. We had dinner, bed and breakfast and it was good. In a very cold May the bedrooms were cold at night because the heating had been turned off. We were unable to turn it on at the radiators nor from the thermostat in the hall. There is minor wear and tear in the rooms and communal areas (loose fittings, flaking paintwork, scratches and scuffs etc) which could easily be rectified by closer monitoring and attention to detail from the owners.
- Neil (9/5): Very good value for money. I would stay again - Lovely dinner and breakfast. Local ale was very good. Room spacious. Village is absolutely amazing. Walls and ceiling were a bit thin so you could here other guests
- Allison (9/5): Would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Rutland - Friendly welcoming staff, extremely clean, comfy bed, large room, nice decor, excellent cooked breakfast, peaceful location, good private parking. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
- John (9/5): Very enjoyable great value 😊 - Nice staff very friendly N/A
- Libby (7/5): Good value, clean, lovely pub and a nice breakfast. - It was clean and comfortable
- Eliza (9/5): Perfect enjoyed the hotel - Great stay there ideal for what we needed . TYSM Liked everything
- Stephen (9/5): -
- sacha (10/5): - Amazing food in the restaurant
- amy (8/5): - Well equipped rooms, excellent breakfast. Clean room. Very hot room and only a small window to be opened. Doors were very loud when closing meaning I was woken up multiple times by people coming back to their rooms late (after 12).

- Mark (8/5): Great stay - Good location, good breakfast , excellent value for money Nothing
- Clive (10/5): - Fabulous I will come back and tell my colleagues about it Every thing
- Karen (8/5): -
- Brackenandbramble (9/5): Great find. - Location good. Bedroom good size. Cold when I first arrived but once I put the radiator on it soon warmed up. Breakfast very nice freshly cooked. Perfect poached eggs. Dinner was also delicious. Would definitely stay again. Coffee in the morning left a bit to be desired. Because They just kept putting more water through the coffee machine without putting in fresh coffee, by the time I arrived at breakfast the coffee was already just like coloured water and it got weaker and weaker. Bed a bit soft for my liking.
- Sue (9/5): -
- Rob (9/5): Great place and very friendly staff - Great location and easy parking! Strange plumbing where cold water refuses to come out of the tap and the shower temp has a mind of its own! Breakfast toaster, toasting is timed in days but there is now lots of HP sauce available unlike last week!
- Roberta (10/5): Excellent value for money - The breakfast was very good Nothing
- Mark (8/5): - Staff, food, drinks, bedroom A bit noisy in the corridor and loud guests
- Dave (8/5): Will stay again - Clean and comfortable N/A
- MattMM (9/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely clean room.
- Lee (10/5): -
- richard (8/5): A nice friendly hotel with pleasant staff and a nice location for discovering Rutland Water - Service was very friendly and the evening meal you had a choice of English or Asian. My chicken Biriyani was the best I have ever tasted. Nothing bad .
- Rob (8/5): Despite the above observations I recommend the Marquis due to location, historic roots and the friendly staff. - Location and friendly staff Room was opposite the car park with only a blackout blind for privacy. TV was tiny. Toilet position close to the wall and a hot towel rail! No brown sauce available for breakfast!! Toaster takes a week to toast!
- HolidayBears (5/5): Mediocre at best, gone downhill since new ownership 15 months ago. - The rooms were clean, as was the pub itself. It's a nice location. The staff were friendly. The family room was good and the beds comfortable. However my friend's separate room was pokey and smelly and we had to ask to swap it (which helpfully they eventually agreed to). The rooms were way too hot even after we turned radiators down or off and kept the windows open 24/7. The bathroom radiator couldn't be turned off and was scorching and unsafe for my small children. The bedrooms are all fire doors and slam loudly no matter how quiet everyone tried to be. Thus guests were constantly disturbing each other. The cooked breakfast looked much better than it tasted and took ages to serve despite pre ordering the day before every day. The pub closes at 6pm on a Sunday even for residents! It's in the middle of nowhere with no shop in the village and no other communal social area so that was pretty poor. Dirty crockery and glassware was left in the lobby for 3 days! When the bar was open there were no trained bar staff and the waiter and waitress kept apologising for not having a clue - the lady even tried to open a wide screw top apple juice with a bottle opener! Since this place has been under new management it has gone downhill a lot from when we stayed a few years ago. We won't be visiting again.
- Kenneth (9/5): -
- John (10/5): A very nice B&B with super breakfast - It was close to our destination in Uppingham and had good parking facilities Reception closed at 9:30am so we left key in room
- Michael Hatton (9/5): - Very quiet location in a picturesque village. There was ample parking. The meals in the restaurant and breakfast were very good. Comfortable bed and well equipped bedroom. The staff were friendly and helpful. No complaints.
- Victoria (10/5): - All the staff were brilliant - friendly, polite, helpful. Food was amazing - both the indian and pub menu meals we had - and breakfast!
- Paul (6/5): Just above average stay let down by poor breakfast. - location was good, bed OK. To be honest...the quality of the breakfast was poor...no taste and cheap ingredients used imo.
- Joanna (8/5): A lovely, hard working host. Food excellent - go for the curry!!! - Lovely rooms. Great host! Nothing. It was lovely
- Dean (10/5): Great location Great value Great staff - Friendly helpful staff, great peaceful location, easy access to surrounding area like Oakham, Stamford etc. Hotel and annex are clean tidy and in really good condition. Storm Dave didn't spoil the stay. The food there is really good and they dealt with our late arrival for breakfast with no fuss.
- Clare (8/5): -
- Marion (8/5): - Food was very good. Staff were really helpful, my husband had a fall while there and the staff and a couple of the guests were excellent!
- louise (9/5): Fantastic stay - Lovely location, cooked breakfast was amazing. Having to choose breakfast the day before, continental breakfast would be nice to have had as an option.
- Caren (7/5): - Fabulous location and great value for money. Family room with option for one dog. Spacious and comfortable, although skylight window had no blind which was straight over bed, needless to say light woke us up around 5am. A little confused by the staffing - there seemed to be one guy who was jack of all trades and multi tasking everything ? Disappointed with breakfast option of porridge and honey, undercooked and stodgy. Cooked breakfast very nice.
- Charles (8/5): Comfortable, with excellent Indian cuisine - Comfortable room, excellent Indian cuisine, friendly staff.
- Paul (9/5): -
- Angela (10/5): Absolute value for money so easy to discover Rutland - Wow what a find far from posh but beautiful and clean staff were lovely are in the restaurant in the evening one of the best curries I have ever had . Breakfast was lovely . The only thing I could say for us it wasn’t a problem but the shower was over the bath could be a problem for some people
- Susan (8/5): Great value for money and excellent food on site. Clean and good service. - Lovely location, price reflected the room, clean and a great breakfast. Restaurant on site, good prices, excellent food! Delicious curries and perfect naan.
- Zoe (8/5): -
- Danny (7/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): - The room was very comfortable the food was some of the best I've had so tasty lovely location for a quiet break Nothing
- Clare (10/5): Brilliant and great value for money - Clean, fresh and spacious. A really comfortable stay and excellent for the price Minor issue but blind was broken and wouldn’t go up so no natural daylight

- Candy (7/5): -
- Heaps (10/5): Clean & Comfortable - It's a lovely hotel in a little village. I never made use of any of the facilities as I went almost straight to bed. The room was very clean & Well presented.
Breakfast was available, however, I never had any as I wanted a lie in. There was ample parking and staff where great
- peter (8/5): - Good food , great beer.
- Timothy (6/5): -
- James (9/5): -
- Jack (9/5): - Very helpful. I left my phone charger and they sent it back to me. Good value, lovely location.
- John (10/5): Clean and good value - Clean, comfortable and quiet. Friendly staff and great food. Good value for money.
- Trevor Higgs Service (7/5): All ok, could be better, Nice and clean. - Good location, very quiet.
Rooms are a good size, and are clean.
Plenty of free parking.
Bar and restaurant on site. Everything could just be better.
Struggled with the food, if you don't like Garlic its not for you.
- Lee (10/5): Food is amazing , nice friendly people in the bar - Everything People slamming doors
- Lisa (10/5): thoroughly enjoyable will definitely return - lovely village and the room was great! nothing
- Megan (7/5): Nice hotel for a great price - The room was nice with comfortable beds. Staff were helpful when we asked to move to a different room. Delicious food in the restaurant! Really great price for the room that we were moved to (and expected to be in!). Lovely village. Initially put in a basic room which wasn't reflected in the photos for a 'superior' room. There were only two twin rooms available in the hotel, and they kindly put us in the other room when we asked.
- Carl (7/5): Nice stay - Nice location but a long way out of Corby, restaurant menu was limited, room was nice but not luxury. Better menu for people who prefer standard bar food
- Gary (8/5): Good food , nice room . Friendly helpful staff. - Evening meal very nice , Breakfast good, Room clean and tidy. Staff very helpful. Mattress a bit too hard for me.
- Pam (8/5): -
- Roger (9/5): -
- Simon (8/5): Working away from home so just nice to come back to a tranquil setting , tv in rooms could do with upgrading to bigger s - Quiet setting easy to relax and has a lovely bar and food
- Martin (9/5): -
- Rebecca (7/5): Good breakfast, comfy but creaky beds - Location great, breakfast good. Lovely looking property and recent Check in is by 22:00 which isn’t stated on the booking so maybe check in with them if you’re going to be later than this arriving. Comfy but very creaky beds, and there was a bad drain smell when we arrived in the bathroom
- Rhys (8/5): -
- Amanda (10/5): A Hidden Gem - The room was lovely and bright and spotlessly clean. Lovely big bath. Refreshments in the room.
We had an evening meal in the restaurant, it was delicious and the staff were very attentive , would definitely stay here again There was nothing I didn't like about our stay
- Peter (9/5): - Stayed for only the 1 night, room was nice and clean, the room got a bit warm even in february and would benefit from a fan in the room maybe, but i am being super picky, for value for money it was great, the food and service were excellent, will definately be back and recommend to others. Nothing
- marilyn (10/5): - As usual a lovely stay rooms clean friendly staff and superb food
- Gillian (9/5): -
- Rob (9/5): -
- ben (8/5): -
- Jeremy (8/5): Fabulous value for money in a beautiful location, lacking only slightly in a cozy atmosphere, - Attentive, friendly staff, who responded very quickly to any issues.
Upgraded room giving direct access to the garden for our dog.
Superb shower. Very clean room. Hearty, well cooked breakfast to set you up for the day.
Excellent value. Could have done with some drawers in the room - had to live out of our suitcases.
Embarrassingly large meal portions (what a criticism!).
No cozy sofas to sit in during the daytime. There were a couple of open grate fires, but only one was lit, and only in the evening, and there were only chairs and tables.
- Sue (9/5): - Everything, fantastic value and lovely staff Nothing
- marilyn (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay relaxed - Very clean lovely staff lovely breakfast and evening meals If I was to be really picky bigger tv
- VERNON (6/5): - The breakfast was sufficient Staff couldn’t fry an egg
- Beverley (7/5): Pleasant stay, staff friendly and food very good, would stay again - cooked breakfasts excellent but slightly too much food, would have appreciated a small range of yoghurts with the buffet breakfast Room we were given was not as described
- Danny (2/5): Pictures make this venue look nicer than what it is… I Definetly will not return to stay here again - Pictures look far better then the property in general but nothing was nice on arrival apart from the huge fireplace in the bedroom Noisy, could hear people peeing in the middle of the night/early morning in the room upstairs. The stair case going to the upper rooms was actually put in my room and just a piece of plasterboard over it so was extremely noisy!
No window in the room just a patio door which if you left open during the night all walks of life could come into the room, carpet badly stained, lampshades all broken and stained, wooden furniture stained bed extremely firm, a small fan that did nothing, and a extremely small TV that I have seen bigger screens in cars these days!!
