Guest Reviews
- Sarah (6/5): Great for a short stay if you’re young fit and able. - Great location. Quiet countryside property. Clean and tidy. Great place to explore local National Trust properties. Chichester is a short drive and lovely town with lots to see and do. Not great if you are tall, overweight or have limited mobility. Partner cracked his head on the beam n his way to the bathroom (he’s 6ft). Later (in heels) I managed to do the same on a cross beam! The ladder to get to the bed is very steep - definitely need to concentrate going up and down and no chance of bringing anything up with you. Once in bed it is comfortable and has that cosy camping feeling as the bed is in the pitched roof. (I loved listening to the rain).
- philip (9/5): Quirky property that's ideal for a quiet break away. - Lovely location and an unusual property. Exceptionally well equipped for such a small place, everything you need for a short break away. There is a nice log burner in addition to the underfloor heating, so it was easy to keep warm despite being in November. Good hot water and a decent shower. The sleeping arrangement is quirky, with the bed being above on a mezzanine. It is literally just the bed, so change before you go up! (I think that this is quite apparent from the pictures on the site, so I dont think anyone could moan about it). The stairs are quite steep and narrow however, probably not suitable for everyone. I met the owner very briefly, who was very pleasant, but it was quite obvious that the place is yours and you won't be disturbed and they just leave you to get on with it. In my opinion, it's very professionally run. Nothing to dislike. Purely from a constructive point of view, a shelf or something to put soap etc on in the shower would be useful as it was a bit of a pain having to keep picking things up and putting them down again on the shower tray whilst showering.

- Robert (10/5): Ideal for my purpose - The location suited my needs perfectly and was convenient to park my trailer. The host was very friendly. The tranquil location and accommodation were All that I had hoped for.
- J (10/5): Perfect for walking in the Downs with no need to drive. Would return, definitely. - It was so peaceful..the outside courtyard area was perfect for dining.
- Maaike (8/5): - Beautiful small cottage / barn, located near superb walking trails and scenery. Bathroom and living area was perfect however the sleeping area is quite small.
- Julie (10/5): Accommodation is full of Character, set in lovely surroundings. - Lovely cosy private accommodation. Perfect for a peaceful stay in beautiful surroundings. As much as we didn’t have a problem with the stairs, they are very steep.
- Caroline (8/5): The description needs updating but overall a good break - The keys were in the door of the property, nobody met us.
The property was a small barn conversion of a high standard. It was situated in beautiful surroundings of trees full of bird song nestled in a valley of the South Downs. There was under floor heating and a spacious bathroom with a large drench shower. Great towels and bed linen Loved the outside table and benches in a gravelled space The photos are clearly several years old on Booking.com. The barn is small. The ‘bedroom’ is a mattress on a mezzanine accessed by a very small and narrow stairs not far short of a ladder and you had to climb onto the mattress. There is no warning to say that it is not suitable for visitors with poor mobility. I have arthritis and found it challenging especially when getting up for a visit to the loo in the night. No storage space upstairs for clothes.
The mattress is the exact space of the mezzanine and the pitched roof was very low so my partner was constantly hitting his head when moving around The information said there would be a small locally sourced hamper on arrival and fresh flowers. Neither were provided. There were also no logs for the wood burner and although it was June it would have been nice to have the option on a chilly night. The outside heater did not work.
- John (8/5): Enjoyed the whole stay, peaceful, calm and restoring. - Great location, very peaceful and picturesque.
Although the property was very small it was well designed and very well equipped. There wasn't much we didn't like, it's a lovely property other than the outside seating area looked a bit unloved.
- Viv (8/5): Very good - It was very cosy and clean.
- Michelle (9/5): Perfect location for a fuss free getaway - A charming bijou property which was comfortable and well equipped for a short stay. Perfectly located to explore the South Downs and Chichester coastline - there is lots to explore.
Awesome shower.
- Cassie (7/5): Beautiful location and barn just need a bit more attention to detail - Beautiful location
Beautiful barn
Comfy bed
The birds singing Need clearer instructions on how to get there.
No hamper with local bits as described on the website.
Dirty uncomfortable sofa ( maybe a footstool would help)
No salt and pepper!!old spice and mouldy coffee in the spice basket .
No hand soap in the kitchen (empty)
Shower gel in the bathroom topped up with water
Roofer were there doing the roof all day so not relaxing with the noise then children going in & out of our garden bit so disturbed.
- Alexander (9/5): Very good - Comfort and location Small size
- Sarah (10/5): - Very clean and well equipped. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. Lovely bathroom. Quiet location but short drive to shops and pubs.
- Bernard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (7/5): NYE 2024 - Great location for a couple of nights.
Shepherds barn was clean.
Loved the log burner, apart from no kindling provided. WiFi wasn't working. Supposedly, the password had changed, but the password given didn't match the only visible network.
It was NYE, and we wanted to play music but couldn't, as no connection plus TV channels were restricted.
I messaged the owner, but the response was slow and unsatisfactory.
It's the small things that make all the difference.
Disappointing.
Note with regards to the stairs to the bedroom. We had no problems but had to be careful.
Maybe a note to warn older / less able visitors.
- Brian (6/5): Pleasant - We liked the area Chichester is a lovely area. The Barn isn't as described,no hamper ,no fluffy white towels , dirty sofa and pink mold in the shower, fridge full of water and not cleaned,no kindling for the fire and fire not cleaned out and Internet and this couldn't be fixed for entire stay so also no satellite tv and the pubs aren't in walking distance due to.the roads they are on
- Db (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Lisa (8/5): Very good -
- Jonathan (9/5): Beautiful accommodation in peaceful setting - Excellent location. Lovely countryside location to enjoy, ideally placed to explore West Sussex. A comfortable and relaxing place to stay. We enjoyed sitting in the outside space in the evenings. Maybe a bit more clothes storage
- Joshua (8/5): Stunning and relaxing, the description lacked a few details though. - The property is so lovely, a really relaxing and well designed little space that is very easy to settle into. Most things that we needed were provided and the little extra touches were wonderful.
The bifold doors to the outdoor space and m the two chairs around the side of the barn (perfect for star gazing!) made the stay so much more enjoyable. When we booked it, there was a hamper mentioned in to description which we weren’t provided. While not a big issue, it did mean we had to go out and purchase our own breakfast which was a bit of a disappointment.
The description also mentions The White Horse pub being a “mile or so” from the property. It is actually 2.6 miles so not really walkable. There are however taxi numbers provided which make travel much easier.
- Caroline (10/5): Wonderful few days and definitely booking to stay again. - Everything was spot on. It was peaceful & comfortable. Great shower and loved the bed, while I’m still able to manage stairs and the climb on/ off bed. Great use of space. Very well done. Good quality bedding & towels Not a major thing but no microwave
- Angie (8/5): had a lovely relaxing stay - cosy, everything we needed and lovely and quiet very small, the sofa was also small and uncomfortable with no other chairs to sit on
- Noemi (9/5): Superb -
- Montana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (8/5): Perfect short stay for countryside walks - Perfect location for walks in West Sussex. Nicely decorated. No storage for clothes / bags.
- Hilary (8/5): Ideal location for peaceful break. - Compact accommodation that was well thought out. Log burner made it lovely and cosy. We enjoyed walks from the doorstep.
- Lee (9/5): Close to all amenities wither it be a stroll around a Georgian City or a stroll along a deserted beach 👍 - The quietness and rural outlook. The wood burner was definitely a nice touch and made it more cosy. Nothing negative to say
- Camila (10/5): Lovely place to stay - We had a lovely stay at Shepherds Barn, we went for the Goodwood horse races and because of its location, the property was perfect for us. Everything was really clean and in great condition. The surroundings were beautiful. It was great to also have a little kitchen to make our own breakfast in the morning.
- Jeanette (8/5): - It was quaint.
- STUART (10/5): GREAT STAY - Lovely property spotlessly clean and all comforts of home. Quiet and chilled weekend
- Thomas (10/5): A peaceful haven in beautiful surroundings - Great little place - booked because of its closeness to where I was working, but a very pleasant surprise. Loved the out door table - had my breakfast out there almost every day. Will return to stay when I’m not working. Ideal for events at Goodwood, quiet and relaxing. Perfect getaway spot.
