Guest Reviews
- Debbie (10/5): -
- Susan (10/5): Fabulous visit, will definitely be back - Lovely hotel, lots of history we liked everything
- Chris (9/5): A lovely stay. - The staff were all so lovely and friendly and made us feel very welcome. A charming property with comfortable furniture - it was like staying in a home rather than a hotel. Glasshouse / Greenhouse option for dining with dog. Lovely farm setting. The food was delicious. Our pet-friendly bedroom in the separate cottage was slightly overheated with an expansion tank in the bathroom but easily adjusted by opening velux +windows.
- John (10/5): -
- Lucy (10/5): - Great location and very comfortable. Loved the lounge area for relaxing and location great for local walks and accessing the wider Peak District. Breakfast was lovely and generous portions, and packed lunch a nice surprise. Had dinner one night in the restaurant which was delicious.

- Martin (10/5): Great for a long or short stay ,food was exceptional - Great property in a lovely location ,
- Ray (10/5): Wonderful hotel, excellent and friendly staff. - The food was excellent. I had steak for dinner and it was, by far, the best steak I have ever eaten.
The breakfast was exceptional, they even served a diced sausage on a metal plate for our dog. Nothing comes to mind.

- Joe Trutwein (10/5): - We stayed over the Easter Bank holiday (3 nights) and it was fully booked but never felt too busy. The staff were really friendly and did well, breakfast was great and plenty big enough. You get a choice of hot food which is made to order and there's an continental buffet to help yourself too. We also loved the packed lunches. We had dinner at the restaurant every night and it was good and reasonable priced and so handy being onsite. We brought our dog and he enjoyed it too! We left him in the room for meals but there are dog friendly greenhouses if you want to take your dog with you when you eat. It's also nice staying somewhere that doesn't charge you extra for your dog. We also all got an Easter egg from the hotel on Sunday, it was a lovely touch! Thanks so much. Nothing, we were happy!
- Simon (9/5): -
- Madeleine (10/5): A lovely two day break in a beautiful location. The staff and service was excellent and will definitely hope to return. - Old world charm with all modern facilities.

- Karen (9/5): Wonderful weekend break with my mum - Excellent breakfast, comfortable room, bonus to have a complimentary packed lunch and Prosecco. Restaurant was great with an excellent pianist playing in the background No complaints of any kind
- bryn (9/5): -
- Anais (10/5): - Beautiful property, clean rooms, amazing location — you can go on hikes and enjoy gorgeous scenery from the doorstep, without having to drive anywhere. Close to many attractions in the Peak District. The packed lunch was a wonderful bonus. And the food at breakfast and dinner was wonderful.
- John (9/5): Excellent hotel in the Peak District - Wonderfully quiet and peaceful location, you could step out of the hotel and into the rolling hills. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the manager (Andy) always took the time to say hello and ask about our stay. Breakfast was fantastic with a wide range of options available, all freshly made. A free packed lunch was provided each day, again, freshly prepared. The evening meals were all very good, with a complete change of menu each night. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Peak District as attractions such as Chatsworth, Bakewell etc are all within a reasonable (half hour or so) drive. No real complaints at all. The newly installed electric car charging point wasn't working at the time of our visit, not a big problem for our hybrid car, but it would have been nice to use if it had been available.
- Stephanie (8/5): Lovely staff, great location and a lovely hotel. -
- Helen (10/5): Wonderfully attentive staff - We thought the staff were amazing. Georgina and Paris (I hope I am getting this right) went above and beyond during our stay. The food was excellent, we had one meal at the hotel on our first night and the hotel very kindly kept the kitchen open for us so we could eat after our long journey. I had a running race on the Sunday morning and the staff organised an early continental breakfast for our room. Our room was comfortable and clean. We really enjoyed our stay, thank you! NA

- Stephen (9/5): -
- Clémence (10/5): -
- Andy (10/5): - The accommodation and setting was perfect especially for local.dig walks. Because we had our dog with us, we had to dine in the external greenhouses which were a bit crampt. I discussed this with the owner and he was very understanding and open to suggestions. He is having to comply with regulations, meaning dogs were not allowed in dining areas.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - The hotel had lots of character. We couldnt fault the room. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The little touches like fresh milk and drinks in the fridge on arrival. Beautiful location. Quiet.
Bonus of bus nearby if you don't want to drive.
- Denise (10/5): - a nice place to stay
- Clive (8/5): Relying on location and not suitable for anyone who doesn’t - The breakfast was very good value and packed lunch was very good. The staff were excellent although they left ar 22:00 and we had to turn the lights off. The room in the main house was rather tied and needed the mould in wardrobe and on walls treating. Also the room needed a good clean couldn’t see through windows clearly, dusty on most surfaces
the evening meal at £100 per couple wasn’t good value a pint of beer at £6 wasn’t good value the adjacent pub was £2.40
- Rachel (9/5): Beautiful hotel, great amenities - Great breakfast, room size and complementary packed lunch!
- Philip (10/5): - Brilliant stay, so well looked after, thank you
- Amar (10/5): -
- Judie (10/5): A delightful experience, and we will certainly return. - Everything about our stay was perfect. The characterful building, the well trained friendly staff, the excellent food, and the attractive setting. We couldn't find fault with any aspect of this hotel.
- David (8/5): We enjoyed our stay and the services provided. - The staff accepted my booking on the day required after it had registered on the wrong date. Service, the room breakfast and location were great.
- elizabeth (6/5): - I needed a break, for myself, and decided an overnight in this hotel was a good option. The building is impressive, plenty of parking, the staff really and genuinely lovely (which makes a massive difference these days). The main house looked to be clean, welcoming and up to date. I had (last minute) booked a double bed room, which was located in the Lodge, I asked if the room was soundproofed and received a rather non committed reassurance. Upon arrival I found I was allocated a twin (single bed) room, on the ground floor, next to the entrance door (which didn't seem to have a lock and was open to a road near a campsite/pub). I felt a little uncertain/uncomfortable about this, but I knew the hotel was full and the location is lovely. I enjoyed a lovely drink sitting in the garden and returned to my room. Very quickly became apparent that there is no soundproofing at all in the room/building - so listening to the front door slamming/stairs creaking/bedroom doors slamming/people talking/very loud noises from above/small dog barking etc. I realised I would not be getting a relaxing/restful break and decided to leave. No idea if the main house or Courtyard rooms are any quieter - but check before you book! Such a shame as there are many positives.
- Simon (10/5): -
- Kate (10/5): - An absolute gem of a hotel. Wonderful in all respects!
- Nicola (8/5): -
- Jane (10/5): - We liked everything about the biggin Hotel, friendly staff fantastic room ,evening meal and breakfast was excellent, loved the little touches, complimentary packed lunch for journey home fresh milk in the fridge, complementary drink in fridge, fruit in room on arrival. We loved everything
- Paulina (10/5): - Very comfortable stay and a great breakfast. The staff is super nice!
- KEN (8/5): An easy break - Great room and location Nothing
- Katie (8/5): Really lovely stay, lovely staff and beautiful surroundings - Friendly staff and really nice food in the restaurant. The packed lunch and complimentary bubbly and ale in the fridge was a nice touch. Strange smell in the room

- Timothy (10/5): - Loved the room. Very nice staff, excellent local walks. Dinner was pretty good. Good breakfast and packed lunch included in the price, excellent value.
Dog friendly, though you have to eat in a quirky little greenhouse. EV charging on site was handy.
- Jacek (10/5): -
- Clive (9/5): -
- John (10/5): - Fabulous service good food and pleasant staff All who constantly obliged with a smile.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely countryside hotel - Very pleasant place with friendly staff. The food in the restaurant was very good for dinner and breakfast. Attractive grounds with a short sculpture walk around the garden.
Only potential problem is that it can be noisy in the main building. It’s a very old house and the floors creak. We had someone above us who woke at 5am and chose to pace back and forth for the next few hours. This was very annoying so you may want to consider this before booking a room in the main house.
- Philip (10/5): - Amazing staff, packed lunch, a complementary beer in the room, amazing breakfast and the best lamb ever for dinner. Also a very very friendly black cat came and joined me in the gardens after dinner. Very civilised In the annexe, the doors are a little squeaky, could do with an oil, or replaced tbh, as hard to shut without slamming, which isn't ideal.
- Bernadette (10/5): wonderful welcoming staff. professional serving staff in restaurant. complimentary drinks in our room as well as complim - beautiful old house with antique charm. nothing
- Linda (8/5): -
- Philip (10/5): -
- Steve (10/5): Rural gem - Lovely hotel in a rural location.
Walks on the doorstep (Tissington trail nearby)
Fantastic food at reasonable prices
Room was fine and bed comfortable
Good breakfast
Service was excellent - clearly have been well trained Low roof point outside room 6 ( top floor) means you can easily hit your head on way out. Some form of warning / padding would help
- michele (8/5): -
- Mark (10/5): - Excellent online find. It is refreshing to have a hotel that is not too fancy but just felt like a proper place: The staff were excellent. The food is not fussy but well prepared and of a high quality. The room in the main house comfortable and quiet.

The beds were really comfortable and bedrooms, bathrooms clean. The location was good for my friend and I to meet and overall the hotel was super. Not much. We both found that our phone network coverage in the area was poor but the hotel Wifi was good.
