Guest Reviews
- Collin (8/5): - Great for backpacking
- Burak (2/5): - The pictures on the website are completely different from reality. The person at reception is really rude. They won't let you sit in the common area after midnight and have ridiculous rules like you have to lock the door every time you go out. A truly awful experience.
Wonderful! - This was the best experience I've ever had . I was nervous about going to Tokyo but Tak made me feel right at home . I enjoyed our conversations, laughs , and good times. The bed was amazingly comfortable that I slept soundly. Thank you Tak for everything. I'm looking forward staying again . 😃
- Christopher (6/5): - It's okay for the money you're paying.
- Ellie (10/5): Loved my stay - Tuk was an amazing host. I left an item there and he offered to ship it to my next hostel for free. He cares about his guests and will even help you with a map of where to go. The hostel beds were comfortable and rooms/ toilets were decently clean. It is also conveniently next to the train station.
- Hudson (8/5): - The place was lovely if you’re looking for a quiet place to stay. The owner was amazing, our favourite person we met in Japan. Truly a kind and welcoming person who was fun to talk to and spend time with. Highly recommend if your on a budget.
- Jan Alexie (10/5): - Great host, clean, and we'll organized.
- Narsha (2/5): - The host ‘greeted’ me with a threat - that if I don’t follow his rules, he’ll get angry and if I don’t like it I can go immediately and he’ll say I was a no-show. I’ve never stayed somewhere with such an oppressive atmosphere all thanks to the owner. He’s like a petty flatmate who leaves notes everywhere about drops of water on the floor, and huffs and puffs if he spots any…There are much bigger issues with this place, such as a lot of rubbish piling up in the kitchen daily, his stuff piled in the dorm room and all over, as he actually stays there too, stuffy musty dorm room as windows never opened so no air, most of all, the way he speaks to & treats people is very poor. I heard from several guests and had experiences myself. He doesn’t allow people to sit on the furniture after midnight, I was made to eat my dinner in the dark alley outside at night when I was sat just outside of the hostel entrance, because he said it ‘annoys the neighbours’, one day I was looking for ice cubes and he said so rudely ‘don’t touch’, shushing guests…so many instances. Generally rude, unwelcoming & bad vibes, discourteous doesn’t begin to describe him. In a country full of polite, helpful people he stands out for all of the wrong reasons. There’s nothing to do in that area so the extra money you think you’ll save, gets used on transport anyway. It’s cheap for a reason because he feels it entitles him to behave badly. take my advice and stay somewhere you’ll feel welcome and comfortable!
- Abelardo (2/5): - This was by far the worst place I’ve ever stayed at. The place was dirty and neglected, nothing like the photos, which must have been taken years ago — it’s clearly not maintained anymore. Everything was dusty and unclean. On top of that, the host was extremely strict and got upset over the slightest noise, making the stay uncomfortable and stressful. I absolutely do not recommend this place to anyone.
- John (10/5): - Very cool hostel! Has a chic coffee shop and clothing shop downstairs, host was extremely nice and made sure that people were comfortable, right next to Keisei Takasago station for easy commute. I had a great time talking and hanging out with host and fellow hostelmates, will be coming back!
- SEJIN (8/5): - Guests may feel uncomfortable because it is a space where they live with a host. Most of the guests who rated the accommodation low seem to be true. Accommodation rules must be notified before arrival and a notice must be posted inside the accommodation. If the host explains verbally one by one after another after a guest arrives, they may be misunderstood or inconvenienced. It should not be forgotten that it is also the host's duty to make guests feel at ease. Accommodation facilities and services are about 6 out of 10 points, but I want to give him 8 points in the sense of doing well in the future.
- Aguilar Jimenez (10/5): - Amazing place, Tak is a very good. Just please be respectful and mindful! The place has really homey feel to which is great and since the lobby is just the living you get to talk with the other guest a lot. If you travel alone this is the spot
- Max (10/5): - The hostel is run and maintained by the owner only. The guy is intresting to chat with. He is giving me atypical Japanese charateristics. The cleaness is well maintained, only the facility parts like the staircases are not for everybody, especially eho are with bulky items and have health issues like knee problems because this biilding does noy have lifts.
- IBrahim (8/5): Happy - thank you for the service.will be back
- Dhruba (10/5): - A lovely hostel in an old eastern part of Tokyo, where the charm of the old city blends nicely with the hustle and bustle of the modern city just a few stops away. Tak's (owner) place is situated about a 7 minute walk from Keisei Takasago station, which will be your central point to all the other major stations. Once you get to Nippori station, then you're good to go mostly everywhere.
Now the hostel itself is an old style Japanese home that has been turned into one, with nice beds and the usual hostel amenities (i.e. shared washroom, shower, kitchen etc.). Tak's got style, and you see it shine through the place. The man himself is a genuinely fun person, and he'll more than likely show you around the area if he's free, while giving you solid tips. He took my buddy and I, along with 2 others to try out the local izakaya and food shops. If you're looking for a unique sleeping place with a great owner to drop your bags off while you travel around Tokyo, then Yawp is right for you!
P.s. to Tak - once I become a famous author, feel free to sell the signed runners I left if you havent donated them already lol
- Jerome (10/5): - This backpackers has a strong community feeling thanks to Takuro, who knows how to host and connect guests very well. He even cooked dinner for us one night! Although the accommodation is out of the city centre, it is very close to a train station so getting around was still fairly easy. Thanks for the stay Tak :)
- Bertrand (10/5): - I loved this place! It’s was very cozy, very friendly, thank you !
- Walter (10/5): - It was pleasant staying here. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
- HYUCKRAK (10/5): - The best Hostel ever~
Im just looking forward to visit again soon.
Thanks a lot host TAKU^^
- Camila (8/5): - Tak is very cool, he will explain a lot of things and share experience with you if he has visited your country!
The beds and toilets are fine for the price. Beds very confortable.
The only thing its not very clean! The toilet and room smells a little bit.
But we had a very good stay.
- Lauren (4/5): - Place definitely needs some cleaning and organization. The host is kind, however I would like to highlight that I struggled with communication. A small example: while I was organizing some coins on the counter, the host came up and grabbed my money, then attempting to give me other coins in exchange... this was super random and action done without any verbal communication. I had to stop him and reverse the exchange I never asked for.
If you have any issues with hoarding behaviours or a lack of cleanliness, I would skip over this place. Otherwise, decent location, close to a train station and quiet.
- Kitche (10/5): - The owner is s very good and accommodating
- Cristina (10/5): - Host is so kind, speaks various languages and keeps the place tidy and comfortable :) He even helped with my luggage. Thank you so much!
- Lex (10/5): - Very nice stay, will definitely come back.
- samuel (10/5): - Great convenient area although a little secluded from all the big tourist attractions but with it's own attractions.
- Olga (10/5): - It has everything a backpacker needs.
- Jese (10/5): - Our host Tak truly made the stay memorable. He genuinely enjoys running a hostel and is happy to help with finding local gems and organizing outings with other guests. From kareoke to movie nights to the best local ramen shop Tak is your guy.
The hostel is also right next to an amazing little bento shop, near both a 711 and family mart, coffee down stairs, and a five minute walk from a great train station.
- Danny (2/5): Honest opinion... - In my opinión, this is not a hostel. This is the owners apartment with a bunch of strict rules that makes staying uncomfortable and awkward. Everyone has to follow the rules or he gets angry (because he is behind you 24/7). A hostel is not Just a place to sleep, its also a cool social space where people want to relax while they can meet other backpackers, but that was not how this was. Most of the travellers are adults and they dont want a strict mom behind them telling us not to spill a drop of water in the kitchen or bathroom.
My suggestion: bro just chill out, get a volunteer to clean sometimes and focus more in Hospitality and make everyone have a good environment and enjoy their stay. You make people feel ALOT of anxiety.
I would recommend paying more somewhere else to be able to breathe. It was unnecessary stress on our trip we would have rather avoided.
- henry (2/5): - The place was usually much hotter than outside, we got threatened to get kicked out for using a rice cooker [owner had told us we could use everything in the kitchen to cook], owner kept making up rules as we were staying like not being in the lounge past midnight, youre about 50 mins from anything worth seeing in tokyo
- Henzel (10/5): - Tak was very hospitable! Def would recommend it to people who are looking to save money, as well as potentially meet new people.
- Lindsay (10/5): - A great stay, everyone there was super friendly, especially the man who runs the hostel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner tak will make you feel at home. The town is quite and away from the hustle of Tokyo, but very close to transit. You can’t go wrong with staying here.
- Kaitlin (2/5): Horrible Place To Stay!! - We went to this place. It wasn’t private whatsoever. There was no air conditioning upstairs. The owner was extremely abrasive the second we showed up. It was dirty and messy. No lock on the bathroom door. We felt totally unsafe. So we decided we were gonna tell him that and ask him for a refund. He argued and argued with us about how he wasn’t going to lose money off it. Agreed to pay us HALF back for the next 4 nights. So we lost about $150 over it. Then he demanded we pay the fee that he pays to hotels.com for our booking. We said no. Eventually he said pay half and we gave up because we wanted the rest of our money back. It was insane. He also argued with me about getting a receipt. He said he doesn’t give receipts. I said I paid you in cash I need a receipt to prove that
Oh also he made me pay up front and in cash
- Whatever (4/5): - The cleanliness is way too bad from what it is shown in the advertisement. The room size is packed with 12 people in it where smtimes you dont feel the aircond at all (i went in summer) and it was so hot that disturbed my sleeps there. If u want to do laundry, owner will get it done for u and u need to pay 200 yen for it each time. I think u need to re-think if u want to stay here (if u choose a lil bit of convenient).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hostel, very clean, I found the beds to be super comfy, ac worked well And was always on in the dorm. very quiet location, 1 min walk to a family mart for essentials/food. great friendly pubs close by, 2 min walk to the train station making almost everywhere accessible in Japan, big thanks to tak for making my time in Japan awesome, I will be returning!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was the first place I stayed in Japan,it was amazing. The owner is very helpful and friendly! I found the bed very comfortable and cosy, not too hot and not cold. Very close to the station, convenience store and some restaurants. I was sad to leave!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Host Tak is very friendly and the place is clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Owner really nice, nearby train station makes it easy to get around.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I liked the owner, he was very friendly and helpful with my questions.
I didn't like the smell and the mess. there was a lot of clutter.
- Hiren (10/5): - Tak was a really nice host, very welcoming.
Facilities there were great, had everything we could ask for.
Only real negative is that it is a bit further out from central Tokyo but can’t complain as the price is really good.
- Roger (10/5): - The owner tak is great, the beds are comfortable, and it’s walking distance to the train. Couldn’t of asked for a better place to stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic host, nice building, convenient location
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really comfy well-decorated hostel, had a real "living room" feel which was nice!
- Ray (8/5): Owner, Tak is a great host - Tak is a great host
- Josh (10/5): Comfy, cool and best host in Japan! - I stayed for 2 weeks, these are the comfiest beds you'll find in Japan!
The hostel is close to the station, great if you're flying in from Narita Airport.
Place is full of vintage furniture, retro games and pop culture references.
Owner and host Tak is a seasoned backpacker and knowledegeable friendly guy always ready to give a hand or a tip to ease your trip and help you discover this great country. Useful if you're a first timer navigatin Tokyo!
He will often cook and take people out to local activities and try great local restaurants.
- Georgia (10/5): Amazing stay - I had a great stay, Tak was an amazing host, and spent the time getting to know us all, which made us all get to know each other and make friends. I would highly recommend it to anyone staying in Tokyo, despite it not being in the city center.
