• bundacat (10/5): Historical hill town residence - Really good location, close to central Nuwara Eliya, but at the end of a winding road on the slope of a mountain, with good views. Lovely old building with a very British feel. Beautiful flower gardens to sit and drink tea. I had a large ground floor room with antique furniture, a fireplace and a good bathroom with ample hot water. There is a lounge room with comfortable chairs and sofas, and a big dining room with glass walls on three sides for viewing of the town and lake down below. The access road is winding but in good condition for cars to drive. You would need to take a tuk tuk or a car as it is quite a long way up from the valley floor. The hosts were very kind and helpful. The breakfast was good quality. Nothing, it was an excellent place to stay.

It’s a manageable walk to Lake Gregory or the racecourse or Victoria Park depending on where you want to explore. The owners are helpful and the room was comfortable. The food was very good. The ponies visiting the garden during breakfast were cute. Nothing to add. Travellers should know it can be a bit colder and windier in Nuwara Eliya.

• Andrea (7/5): Wir waren zufrieden. - Warmes Wasser beim Duschen und warme Bettdecken. Das ist auch nötig, da alles klamm ist, wenn es draußen regnet. Das Essen war sehr, sehr lecker. Die Möbel sind zwischen antik und sehr abgenutzt. Es ist nicht sehr angenehm auf den Sesseln im Gemeinschaftsraum zu sitzen. Straße ist sehr steil.

Doordat er geen verwarming in de kamer aanwezig is, was het onaangenaam vochtig. Dat was vervelend/ jammer. Voor de rest was de kamer en badkamer heel erg gedateerd, maar schoon. Personeel vriendelijk en behulpzaam.

• Maaike Stevens (5/5): Gedateerd - De kamers zijn ruim en de bedden zijn groot. Prijs/kwaliteit verhouding is op zich prima. Hygiëne was matig, en het meubilair is heel erg gedateerd. Als er geen geld is om meubels te vervangen, zorg dan tenminste dat alles schoon en netjes is. De kamers zien er slordig uit: gordijnen van de rails, sierkussentjes kapot, vlekken in het tapijt. De douche is 30 seconden warm en daarna ijskoud. Dat is op regenachtige dagen niet fijn. Verder heel gehorig; er zat een groep naast ons in een kamer die tot 1 uur s nachts veel herrie maakte.

As the hotel is some distance from town, it would have affected my decision to stay there. As everywhere in Sri-Lanka, the staff are friendly and helpful but the place feels a little tired and small things such as no bedside lighting are an inconvenience.

• de Silva (9/5): Great Holiday Gateaway - Worth the Money - Location of the hotel is very close to the city centre. Sri Lankan breakfast was very delicious and portion sizes are large. There's a separate place for having meals with a beautiful view. Sumith and his team gave an excellent service and highly appreciate. Room size and the bathroom size are comparatively large. Hot water was available at anytime. The hotel contained old-colonial vibe. The International breakfast was okay but need to improve.

There was no air conditioning or heater, and at reception, we were offered a heater for the room at an extra cost of 2000 Sri Lankan Rupees. The internet was very poor—when we asked, the administrator mentioned that some routers were broken, but this didn't help, and we were unable to use the internet for work.

Staff were very friendly and attended to all our needs. The caretaker Ajith was supper helpful and he even managed to arrange a cake and a decorated room to celebrate one of our group member’s birthday. Highly recommend this place.
