Guest Reviews
- David (10/5): Surprisingly good - Everything modern and good standard
Friendly and helpful staff
Good food Road noise, but can't be helped in a roadside pub
- Maureen (10/5): Great friendly staff. - Breakfast fabulous. Room exceeded expectations. Nothing
- Neil (8/5): - The room was comfortable, clean and quiet and reasonably priced. Dinner was very good and very substantial which was needed after a long days walking. The staff were friendly and service was good.
- Sean (7/5): - Needed a room very last minute, so this ticked that box. I was using the pub as I was working locally and had early starts. So Saturday nights entertainment in the pub albeit sounded great, it didn't help with my sleep.
- Paul (9/5): Nice property and good location. - Nice property and good staff. Nothing.
- Barrett (6/5): - Nothing was special to like. The bed was uncomfortable so I didn't have a good sleep, the door was difficult to lock and the floor was squeaky when you walked on it.
- james (10/5): -
- Colin (10/5): - Evwrything. Nothing.
- Dora (8/5): - Nice staff, helpful No dinner order after 8.30
- Ross (8/5): - Lovely staff: brilliant location on doorstep of North York Moors and Yorkshire Coast; great pub in the evening; room had all the necessities; parking included. Mattress very soft for our liking, but appreciate others would like it

We had an evening meal which was delicious, the food portions are very generous.
The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Nothing to dislike.

I would come again.

The room was comfortable and cozy.

- Andrew (10/5): - We have stayed at the Oakwheel on a number of occasions and we think it's good value of money. The staff are friendly and the breakfast was very nice.
- Deborah (10/5): Very relaxing, warm and comfortable, will stay again. - Great location, room very clean, comfortable and quiet, breakfast was amazing.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Overnight around six inches of snow had fallen.
Thank you to the very helpful lady at breakfast, roads were clear from Malton as you said, we made it home safe in 6 hours. Nothing to dislike, perfect for us.
- Liz (9/5): Lovely but cold. - The room was spotless and the bed was comfortable. Everything we needed was supplied. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Didn't have dinner but did have a drink in the bar which was very cosy with a log fire. The only downside was that our room was not very warm. We asked them to check the radiators but didn't make much difference. Had to get into bed to keep warm. Shame because everything else was great. But we just couldn't get warm.
- Carlotta (7/5): - Colazione ottima e personale gentile
Camera spaziosa Camera fredda, riscaldamento insufficiente nonostante ci abbiamo dato una stufetta in più.
- Simon B (8/5): - Staff were extremely friendly and very attentive.
Food was excellent. One of the rooms was a little cold - heating hadn't been turned on for some time probably, but otherwise it was fine.
- Michelle (8/5): Really nice stay - Old property loved the bar area and open fire excellent comfort
- wendy (9/5): Good for a night, but wouldn't stay longer. - Good sized room with adequate facilities. Room was clean and basic. Staff were lovely and breakfast was great. As the room was on the road, it was noisy and the windows were old and drafty. This made the room cold although heating was on max.
- Michael (7/5): - Such friendly ho.spitality Not recently decorated.
Confused by the breakfast arrangements.
A fridge full of breakfast items and also a full English in the dining room with no opportunity to personalise our choices.
- Williams (5/5): -
- Eileen (8/5): A great place to stay with a lovely Yorkshire welcome - The location is excellent being close to the coastal road into Scarborough and also the Whitby Road.
The staff were very friendly and the rooms very comfortable. It is a little quirky which I like. There was an issue with the bathroom radiator which needed bleeding but once it was pointed out to the staff they dealt with the issue promptly. They also confirmed with me what had been done.
- Sean (1/5): -
- Celia (10/5): - The staff where all excellent at making you feel welcome and always with a smile
The food was excellent, also the room was cleaned every day with a fresh supply of biscuits tea, coffee and hot chocolate The only thing wrong was the television size in the room
- Andy (9/5): Overnight - The location is great the food was very nice and also the staff were nice and polite very helpful in fact they're great Unfortunately the bed wasn't the best maybe invest in to better mattresses. We kept rolling into the middle through the night, it's either bed base had it or the mattress like i said needs replacing otherwise fine
- Andrew (10/5): - We have stayed at the Oakwheel a number of times , the staff were friendly and helpful and our room was nice and clean and spacious. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was spacious and clean. We stayed for the evening meal which was very nice and also had breakfast which was nice. Nothing
- howland (3/5): Expected at least a hot shower after long day - Location was good No hot water in shower ,, told the wrong price when we knew we had paid less & also told we hadn’t paid then 10 mins later that we had paid but no apology
- Clarkyboy (6/5): - Lovely hotel in not far to scarbrough or whitby lovely meals Lovely hotel didnt help when wife had a bad bout of sciatica sooner let her sleep on floor than unlock spare bed in room to aid the problem just gave the quilt of it

- Stuart (9/5): -
- Brian (9/5): - Very good
- ADE (9/5): - Lovely comfortable room and excellent meal in the evening, the staff were all beyond criticism being attentive and helpful. The breakfast was perfection and the service was again equal to the evening staff, however we were spoilt by being the only people down for breakfast (stormy October Friday). Nothing
- Chris (10/5): - Great friendly local pub with a lovely open fire too. The food here is excellent and all locally sourced.
- Marston (8/5): - We had a very good breakfast with plenty of choices The shower was over the bath and it was digfecult to get into
- lloyd (10/5): Lovely, would stay again. - The room was a good size, nicely furnished with comfy beds. Great tea /coffee station with pkts of biscuits and btls of water.. a nice touch. The evening meal was delicious and so was the breakfast. Staff all very friendly. Would definitely recommend and will stay again if we are back in the area. There were no negatives..
- Rachael (10/5): Amazing stay, wish I’d stayed longer - The place was lovely. From the pub to the rooms. Very clean, big rooms and lovely bathroom.
The staff were very friendly and helpful which helped as it was my first time travelling alone.
- Andrew (10/5): - We have stayed at the Oakwheel before, a different bedroom this time. The bedroom was clean and nice and spacious.. the bed was nice and comfy. We had tea, coffee biscuits in our room. The staff were nice and friendly, breakfast and evening meal was very nice. Nothing
- Tom (9/5): Very pleasant stay with only 1 concern the bed - Cleanliness of the accommodation and the friendly staff The bed mattress was lumpy and well used and should be changed.
- Luke (10/5): Will certainly recommend the Oakwheel to friends and family - The location of the hotel was ideal for our needs. We had a meal in the restaurant which was excellent and a great choice on the menu. Staff went over and above to help with anything. Nothing
- Mark (10/5): - The staff were lovely and welcoming when we arrived and the room looks like it's been recently refurbished. It was spotlessly clean, with a kettle, tea & coffee provided too. We decided to eat here due to previous reviews and they didn't disappoint! I can definitely recommend the Steak, ale and mushroom pie, it was wonderful, and portions were great too! My wife had the sausage and mash and there were no complaints there either! If I had to be really picky, the shower cubicle is a little small for a big fella like myself 😄 Not exactly a deal breaker and I'd definitely stay here again!
- Michael (6/5): - Food good. Room spoilt by noisy fan from outside; also heating off during afternoon so cold and damp patch on outside wall.
- Maxine (10/5): -
- John (9/5): Very nice hosts and staff, very good meals - a good experience. - we liked the nearness to Scarborough. The food was excellent and the staff very pleasant and accomodating. We would certainly stay here again. We did find our room a bit cold .
- Rory (7/5): - For the price fantastic - staff very welcoming and accommodating - definitely would stay again
- clive (10/5): -
- robert (8/5): Really nice stay . - Food & service exceptional, personal friendly . Rather chilly we wore jumpers over rugby shirts most of our stay . (Central heating not on ,expected this time of year ) fire was lite on 2 nights of our stay in bar but no central heating .
- Helen (6/5): OK for a stoppver - Good location for our needs. Good breakfast. Manager's attitude was not great, shame because the rest of the staff were lovely and welcoming.
- Richard (7/5): -
- Zoe (8/5): They serve exceptionally good food at the Oakwheel. It is worth staying there for the food. -
- Susan (8/5): Nice friendly pub with good rooms. - Nice pub with good rooms. Nice breakfast friendly staff no complaints at all. Nothing really it was as described.
- Robert (10/5): Great stay meeting up with friends to attend a yearly function in a quintessential English seaside resort. - It’s in a good location just outside the town of Scarborough. All the staff are very helpful and friendly, the food is exceptional and it’s all in a typically old English pub setting. There is also a large car park just outside the door. The rooms are quirky but clean, tidy and they are a good size. We enjoy everything about it. Nothing.
- Clover (8/5): -
- Tony (10/5): me and my daughter loved our stay - Great accommodation staff and food - would stay again
- David (10/5): Yorkshire hospitality - A very friendly pub with good food and nice rooms. I would happily stay again.
- colin (9/5): - Very clean and comfortable country pub. Staff very polite and helpful. Excellent food ..Thoroughly enjoyed our two days there, and will definitely use it again
- Mayhead (8/5): -
- Van Hoecke (6/5): Overpriced - Breakfast was good.
Plenty of car parking space.
Bed was comfortable
Friendly staff - TV did not work. We have reported this immediately after we checked in. 2 people came to have a look at it but were unable to fix it. Nothing else was done about it throughout our stay despite reminder at breakfast on the first morning.
- Hot water times. After check in, we wanted to shower after a nearly 5 hour journey, as we were meeting friends for dinner. No hot water. We mentioned it to the person who came to look at the TV and were told the boiler only comes on at 4PM, but hot water only started to come through at around 16.50. The next day 1 of us had a hot shower before breakfast. However when we came back from breakfast after 10 am, there was no hot water anymore for the second person to shower.
- Price - OK it was a bank holiday weekend in Summer season, but we didn't feel we had value for money.
- Louise (8/5): A lovely stay in Scarborough - Lovely country pub with nice comfortable rooms, friendly staff and a great breakfast. Couldn't ask for more for the price, will stay again. Only a 5-minute taxi ride from the Scarborough open-air theatre, so an ideal location if you're going to see a gig.
- Ben (4/5): Average. Worth probably £60 Per Night. - Staff were helpful. No iron in the room.
Brought ironing board up with no iron.
Waited a bit.
Walls are paper thin - can hear next doors shower and conversations.
- Martin (8/5): Dinner and Breakfast Very Good. Comfortable bed - Close to Open Air Theatre and Good attentive staff Some road noise from rooms
- Joel (9/5): -
- Anita (10/5): The Oakwheel overnight stay. - Booked the accommodation at the last minute, but we were delighted with everything about the Oakwheel. Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. We decided to have our evening meal there and the food was delicious. All the staff were great, very friendly and approachable. Our room (Room 5)was very spacious, comfortable, quiet, and clean. Breakfast was also great with generous portions.
The pub is not very far away from Scarborough. In fact, from the pub, we walked along the old railway line, known as the Cinder Path, into Scarborough, and then back later on. Think it's about 4 miles each way.
We would certainly stay there again. A real gem.
Thank you to all the staff at the Oakwheel. Nothing
- Michelle (10/5): Very comfortable clean and inviting the breakfast was excellent value - Very welcoming lovely staff Nothing
- Anthony (10/5): - The place was very nice and staff very friendly and welcoming. Food on the evening was excellent and the breakfast was excellent. Nothing to dislike.
- Judith (8/5): Good - Dinner Breakfast not available until 8.30
