Guest Reviews
- Chivers (9/5): Great stay with amazing walks and scenery - Excellent location Peaceful with great facilities
- Juliana (7/5): -
- Tami (10/5): Really beautiful, well kept and I will be back with my whole family. - The unit was very well equipped with everything you need. Lots of attention to detail. The farm is stunning with so many dams for and waterfalls for swimming. There’s no restaurant which would be nice but not a must have for self catering.
- Gustav (Gus) (10/5): Peace and quiet, tonic for the soul. - Location was amazing. Chalet was extremely well equipped. Breakfast N/A? Road could have been challenging in a storm, but we were lucky.
- Letsipa (7/5): One for the books. - The nature The driveway path was risky
- Tamarin (9/5): Relaxing and rejuvenating - Incredibly peaceful. The environment is conducive to relaxing! The views are beautiful and lovely to drive around the farm and explore. The freedom to explore the property at our leisure was really great. The cleaner coming daily to wash dishes etc was such a treat. The floorboards on the stairs were a little bit loose at the top. Otherwise nothing else.
- De Wet (10/5): What a beautiful home to break away to, spacious and beautiful serene views and the bird life was exquisite - The location was perfect , a little bit of a drive out but if serenity and views are worth it. Beautiful trails and friendly staff with accommodations cleaned daily
- Ntokozo (10/5): -
- Devshen Kanniah (7/5): shower was a problem water turns cold after being i there for a minute - shower was a problem water turns cold after being i there for a minute shower was a problem water turns cold after being i there for a minute
- Rachel (9/5): Great stay in beautiful surroundings. - A beautiful and quiet setting. The chalet is lovely and well equipped for a great stay. The beds are comfortable with good linens. We loved the fire place with wood supplied.
- Johan (9/5): A lovely weekend getaway - The peace and quiet
- Zukisa (8/5): Beautiful location, quiet and serene, also enjoyed seeing zebra’s and wildebeest’s - We really enjoyed our stay at Penwarm Farm, the facilities were amazing.
Enjoyed waking up to the beautiful sounds of birds. The Mountain View’s from the cabin are beautiful, walking around the farm was also quite refreshing, with the animals and attractions on the farm. Not a deal breaker but the geyser was really hard to set a cool enough water temperature. It was either too hot or too cold
- Andrew (9/5): Clean, comfortable and accommodating. - Booked at really short notice - 30 minutes before arrival. They were accommodating and made a plan to sort out a unit for us quickly.
Great location and alot to do in the area if you like nature (especially birding).
- Thamika (9/5): - It was a beautiful. It was a good getaway for the weekend. A little social media detox and great bonding with the family. The terrain to get the property was not the best. A lot of gravel. They should make it more smooth for cars.
- Mncube (8/5): -
- Caroline (10/5): - It was self catering.
Cottage was well equipped and spotless. the staff were friendly and accommodating. Lovely walks and hikes on the property. It is peaceful and relaxing. Nothing - It was perfect.
- Steenkamp (10/5): -
- Mandisa (10/5): GREAT GETAWAY - I enjoyed the quietness and the facilities around. The house was spacious and came with everything one needs for a self-catering unit. Besides the cold weather, everything was just perfect. They provide wifi, but its very weak, so just be prepared for being off the grid. The staff are amazingly nice. Winter is extremely cold, but I love that they provide an electric blanket, and there's a fireplace in the unit. Make sure to take an extra blanket. I would definitely go back in the summertime. The fact that there's no network was one of the things I didn't particularly like. I know they do mention this, but there was completely no reception at all.
- Micaela (10/5): The manager and farm staff were all very friendly and accommodating and were happy to help out when the snow impacted ou - the farm is beautiful
- Ahmet (10/5): Exceptional - It was amazing, very good view , quite and beautiful Road can be fixed
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional - Such a great property, friendly staff, pleasant and breathtaking views- worth the trip to break away from civilisation. I know it’s not a fishing or trout farm, but would have been great to have some dams stocked
- Stephen (9/5): Ideal family getaway on beautiful farm - Beautiful location with stunning views and privacy. spacious with all essentials provided. Staff were very helpful and there is a lot to do on the farm.
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cheryl (10/5): Welcoming, warm & friendly, with a fabulous view! - We had a wonderful stay at Mziki Cottage on Penwarn Farm. The cottage sleeps seven (2 rooms with double beds, and a loft with 3 beds). It is perched it a lovely little valley and overlooks a dam that teems with birdlife. The view is great, with the majestic Drakensberg mountains in the distance.
Inside, the cottage is beautifully appointed and has everything you could possibly need. Each bedroom and bathroom has its own heater, and the lounge is just as cosy, with a fireplace that warms the entire living area. One of the bathrooms even has a jet bath - perfect for a long soak after a day outdoors.
The staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. The cottage is serviced daily, which made it feel like a real break. We especially loved the verandah, where we spent hours just soaking in the view with a coffee or glass of wine in hand.
There's a great braai area and even a ready-to-go bonfire -stacked with wood and just waiting to be lit. Honestly, every detail has been thought of. We didn’t want to leave! Very poor cellphone reception, but this helps you take a real break and do a little digital detox at the same time.
- Restevo (9/5): Beautiful Gateway - 1. Beautiful scenery.
2. Friendly and helpful staff.
3. Heater in the bathroom.
4. Electric blankets and fireplace 1. Lack of cupboards, as we are a family who likes to pack our clothes, groceries and bags neatly in a cupboard.
2. Shower could use an upgrade.
3. Bathroom is big enough to accommodate a bath, having a bath would be a great option to have especially when traveling with little ones.
4. Road coming in can be made a bit better because it is quite a bit worse than the gravel road driving towards the farm.
- Gavin (10/5): Peacefull getaway - The spot was so beautiful and peaceful. We enjoyed all the activities and hikes N/A
- Charlie (10/5): Exceptional - Quietness, farm feel, secluded farm, privacy.
- Watts (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jean (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location to get away. Good facilities. Spectacular views.
- Vincent (8/5): The cottage is in a beautiful setting with gorgeous views and birdsong. - N/A
- Lil (8/5): Very good - Absolutely stunning location, pleasant and helpful staff. Lots of activities within the farm to keep you entertained. Had a wonderful stay.
- Michelle (8/5): Very good -
- Debbie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alistair (10/5): The prefect place to unwind an be left alone - It was peaceful…breathtakingly beautiful Nothing
- Ingrid (10/5): Exceptional -
- Selvin (8/5): Very good - Outdoor life, hiking Canoeing
- Naicker (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zama (9/5): Superb -
- Rajcoomar (6/5): Pleasant - We need a 4*4 vehicle. Did not communicate in condition we need to hold back.
- Chailyn (10/5): It was absolutely phenomenal. Would 10/10 recommend this beautiful place to anyone! Will definitely be going back. - Such a beautiful landscape! Nothing bad to say.
- Samkelo (7/5): Good -
- Nonhlakanipho (10/5): Exceptional - Everything 👌👌👌👌👌👌
- Caren (10/5): Amazing getaway in the berg - This is a beautiful getaway. The staff, especially our host was amazing. No unnecessary rules and regulations that leave one irritated before even getting there. The units have everything. The place is clean and so well maintained. Penwarn farm is definitely a fave among my family members. We will definitely be returning. The drive. But only because our vehicle was not suitable and we arrived when it started getting dark.
- Suthrajh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (7/5): Good - We loved the comfy couch, the beautiful scenery etc. Our only complaint was that the staircase is very difficult if you have younger kids or older people with. Even hubby and I felt nervous on stee
p stairs. We absolutely loved the venue but we have to admit that we found the design of the house very impractical. As a couple with a six year old travelling with Granny and Gramps the staircase was a nightmare cos we couldn't let the old folks sleep upstairs but then bringing our daughter down to wee in the night was difficult. Especially in winter where steps felt damp with the cold.
- Desh (2/5): Very poor - Nice Dam and very peaceful Bathrooms very old, fireplace blocked. Fumes were going to children, shower needs revamping, no heaters in bathroom, no coffee provided, owners not on site
- Opperman (10/5): Spectacular! - The view.... the sky - I was absolutely speechless! Every single time we looked out, it was like something out of a Renaissance painting. The rooms were warm and the beds; soft and luxurious. I LOVE that the wood comes in an enormous bag so that you don't have to buy 20 of them. My kids were completely free to run around, play on the jungle gym, and they even enjoyed a short hike with us :D It was definitely one of the most memorable weekends we've ever had! Simple and beautiful! The only thing we can possibly fault Penwarn on is the road getting in. Eek! Don't drive a low-suspension vehicle here. We also preferred the route Google sent us on to the back gate as it's actually a safer road. It was a good giggle going through the bumpy terrain.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - This was our second visit to Penwarn Farm. I just love this Gem of a place . .The Inguni cottage was a winner for us from the fireplace, keeping us warm during cold evenings.Exceptionally comfortable.Beds .The breath taking views all around us loved the rock pool with stream .Kudos to Bapsie and staff for ensuring a great stay for us . Definitely returning for a third visit ☺️
- Chante (8/5): Very good -
- Catherine (10/5): Brilliant. Thank you to the team. - Kitchen very well equipped. Immaculately kept. Shower a little tricky. Hot water goes off midway.
- Tanita (10/5): Just a stunning place but I would advise using an off road vehicle not a small car. - So beautiful! It was very tranquil and quiet relaxing. It’s a hidden gem with all the amenities you need to get by comfortably. It is very well maintained and the service staff were just amazing. If you want to get away and go offline for a while - this is the place to do just that. Rest, relax and reset! We went in summer but arrived just when it had been raining for a week, the roads were super muddy and slippery to drive on so we had to go extra slow. We would have preferred heaters to the fireplace as the entire apartment was really smokey which was very uncomfortable whilst sleeping.
- Roshan (9/5): Superb -
- Nolwazi (8/5): We had a lovely stay overall. We definitely coming back. - The size and the breathtaking view from the house. We were all accommodated for including the kids. Not having hot water to shower was a big spoiler.
- Lutchman (9/5): One of the best getaways I've been to; helpful staff, awesome activities and great facilities - The quietness is extremely peaceful; just listening to the trees rustle in the wind and odd cow moo in the distance really gave way for a relaxing getaway.
Despite load shedding being suspended during my stay, i know that the lodges are well equipped with gas to ensure you have a stove and hot water at all times. If you are a technology geek, perhaps the only difficulty to get through is the cell reception. There are a few sweet spots throughout the farm but when it rains, it's best to have movies or series downloaded to pass time.
- Robert (10/5): Tranquility at its best 👌 - What a gem of a spot to get off the grid .The view from the house overlooking the mountains and privacy provided was great .The free lifejackets and canoe are a nice touch for the kids .The staff were very professional and friendly .
Cleanliness was on point and clean, fresh towels provided on a daily basis
Slept like a dream, and we are definitely returning .Thank you, Penwarn Farm, for an exceptional stay .
- Nicole (10/5): Really worth a visit . Will return - Stunning views. Comfortable accommodation. Nothing
- Philile (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gugulethu (9/5): Superb -
- Tyron (9/5): Beautiful location. I will definitely recommend to a friend - It was very peaceful A little more information on the activities on the farm
- Melissa (10/5): AMAZING PLACE WITH BEAUTIFUL VIEWS - Everything the place is exactly like the pictures beautiful, clean and spacious. Staff are friendly and always on time to clean. Overall an amazing experience. Just the last 16km of road getting to Penwarn was tough we had to drive extremely slow but I was made aware of this upon confirmation of booking. Therefore my review is a 10 star as Karen was honest about the drive getting to the property.
- Gus (7/5): Good -
- Archijack (10/5): A weekend away for a big crowd! - We loved the fact that- the lodge can accommodate the whole lot of us- 17 people, and what a good time we had!! The electricity comes on and off (weather?)
- Samirah (7/5): Good -
- Nonku (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shaun (8/5): Amazing snow capped mountain views, peace and quiet and amazing hikes around the farm where you can view many beautiful - Property was huge and you have freedom to walk or drive around. Views are amazing, volleyball net and kayaks available to use when you want. The dirt roads to get there are the only issue for me, but this should be expected when you are out in the berg. Nothing much you can do about it but be careful and drive slowly, once you get passed that your amazing holiday begins
- Caroline (9/5): Superb -
- Sikhakhane (7/5): Good -
- Johan (9/5): Perfectly peaceful - What a wonderful lodge! For a place so remote, it's absolutely well kept. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Penwarn Farm Lodge is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
- Nikisha (10/5): Exceptional - The views and surroundings were breathtaking. Babsi was the best host we've ever met, gave us all the info we needed to do as much activities around the farm and surrounding areas. The lodge needed cupboards, for 2 people a wrack is enough, but if we stayed longer we would needed more space. The braai area has almost no lighting and difficult at night to see.
- Adika (10/5): Exceptional - the amazing views- relaxing and peaceful
- Logic (9/5): Superb - The place was super clean 👌 Nil
- Phume (9/5): Amazing - Everything
- Zelda (10/5): A venue that offers exceptional world-class comfort for an unforgettable experience! - We absolutely loved our stay. The Farm itself is just world-class. The views and surroundings are perfect for a quiet soul renewing getaway after a stressful week. It is beautifully maintained, spotless, and very well equipped with all one could possibly require and more for a getaway. (I was suitably impressed as they even had muffin baking trays Yay! ) We shall most definitely be back again soon and be spreading the word about this new getaway gem we have discovered. It was outstanding, and world-class!
- David (7/5): Beautiful location - This was a self-catering cabin. The actual location was lovely but getting there was very hard along dirt tracks, even in an SUV. The violent thunderstorm on first night meant we had to get help to tow our car out of the carport 36 hours later. Help from the staff was excellent. The braai was far too big for two people.
- Kevin (8/5): A lovely, relaxing weekend spent on a beautiful farm. - The chalet was beautiful, clean and comfortable and was very well equipped. The scenery was breathtaking. Loved waking up to the mountains, majestic trees and beautiful dam.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Beatrice (10/5): Amazing landscape, absolutely quiet, giving peace. The cottage was wonderful. Very friendly and helpful staff. we will c -
- Ethan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Khankp (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were friendly and helpful, cottages were neat and clean.
Area was peaceful and a great place to relax.
- Gerson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shiraz (8/5): Very good -
- Roshini (9/5): Excellent place to relax and unwind in serene surroundings - We were a group of 16 booked into the largest unit. We loved the spaciousness of the unit. The layout was excellent for a large group. The scenery and surroundings were outstanding. We opted not to do the hikes - the trails were very muddy from a downpour the previous day. The cleaning staff and Bapsie were excellent- he went out of his way to try sort out the DSTV so we could watch the World Cup soccer. The staff were honest enough to handover a ring and clothing which we forgot and Kate is kindly arranging a courier to deliver the items. We will definitely be visiting Penwarn Farm again soon. None
- Oliver (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (9/5): Superb -
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dlamini (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jarryd (9/5): Superb -

- Lyons (10/5): I enjoy my stay at place. keep up the good work. I will recommend to my family and friends anytime. - The place is beautifully and very peacefully . its very clean . The road is very bad.
- Carmen (10/5): Exceptional - Amazingly comfortable units. Very well provisioned, felt like a home away from home. Staff were amazing. Views and location were bliss. Access wasn't ideal, but the farm made it worth it.
- Tash (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julia (9/5): We had a great long weekend. We will definitely return again. - Our stay at Penwarn Farm Lodge was fantastic. The location is beautiful, surrounded by mountains. Staff were friendly. We went on short walks with the kids every day. Our accommodation was very comfortable, and the fire place kept us warm at night. We were happy with all aspects of our stay.
- Rishanth (10/5): We definitely recommend staying here and we will be back! - The Penwarn manor was a wonderful, clean 16 sleeper self-catering house for a family stay in scenic Underberg.
- Minette (10/5): Exceptional - The fireplace, the view, the beautiful cottage and friendly staff
- Steve (9/5): Superb - peacefull and quiet the drive on the dirt road
