Guest Reviews
- Tomasz (10/5): Great location for Sightseeing trips - Second stay, very nice and helpful staff, very pragmatic and nice set-up
- Maria (10/5): - The self service check-inn was easy. Nice with af common room for bringing your own dinner. Hotel highly recommended
- Julie (10/5): - Tres bon sejour paysages superbe
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice property. The included breakfast was substantial and good variety of food. Was able to get coffee at all hours. Room was spacious and warm. No fridge or tv in the room but fridge in common area to use and free wifi allowed for streaming.
Location was outside of the downtown but it was on a direct bus route to downtown. Grocery store on site was a bonus. Helpful staff.
- Mikael (10/5): - Etape ideale
- Verified traveler (8/5): - :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent hotel in excellent location. Highly recommend
- JIN YEONG (10/5): perfect hotel. - very clean , comportable room. nice location.
i love it !!
- Simone (10/5): Wonderful staff - My niece and I stayed for one night. The front desk staff (think her name was Gosia) was very helpful and accommodating. The hotel was overall cozy, nice, and clean. Free breakfast was a bonus. Would definitely stay here again when visiting Iceland.
- Yeonji (8/5): Best value for price - Everything is extraordinarily fine
The room was so clean, had very nice view, and I liked the breakfast as well
The only thing that I don’t like is that I had to be careful when opening the door of bathroom not to have my finger cut 😞
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room we had was very spacious and clean. Breakfast had various options. Location was very accessible to different sights. Would stay here again in the future.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing!! Self service hotel! Super clean! Free coffee and tea available all day. I will definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - 3 miles from city center. Very quiet. Breakfast is a nice spread.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Eska (8/5): - A very good, simple place to spend the night. It was clean and we'll appointed - very good use of space. But don't expect fancy. We found very good pizza on the ground floor by the hotel. Breakfast was generous.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great find at the outskirts of Reykjavik! - The self check-in (and check-out) worked like a charm - parking is very convenient, and there are a pizzeria and a supermarket in the building. The rooms are spacious and the dining area is conveniently right outside the rooms. The place is quiet and the overall atmosphere is very relaxing. Great breakfast buffet - and surprisingly low rate.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - JUST AMAZING!! Self service hotel with super clean bedrooms and lobby. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate always available for free in the common area. *NO TV in rooms but who cares when you are in Iceland!!! Great high speed internet.
- PM (2/5): - The facilities are dated and there is not even a television in the rooms. The room was not cleaned and we had to call in to even get some fresh towels. The worst part was the staffs said I could not take milk for my infant in his bottle because that was to be consumed only on premise. Needless to say my infant does not have his breakfast on the table. Completely disgruntled and dissatisfied with the stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - On a busy road, but didn't hear any noise at night. Entry into facility looked pretty beat up, but room was good, breakfast was good and nice common area.
- Loretta (8/5): Clean&comfy - Nothing fancy, perfect for late arrival from airport. This was the 1st time we’ve checked into a place with no person at the reception. We were given clear instructions in an email on how to check in and it went very smoothly. Room was small but clean. Bed was comfy with decent bed linens. Breakfast was great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice place to stay, not close to downtown, but easy to get to, rooms are good size, clean, friendly staff, breakfast is good. I would recommend this place, just be aware that it's a little bit of a hike to get downtown. We had a car, so CHEERs, no worries.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - So convenient and staff was wonderful. We loved that the parking was easy and a bust stop across the street was convenient to downtown.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very convenient location. Bus into town directly across the street so we were able to avoid downtown parking. Staff exceptionally helpful and friendly.
- Rajesh (8/5): Great Stay at Grimur - Centrally located. Good breakfast. Friendly staff.
- Min (10/5): - Very clean hotel
- Rob (10/5): Have already recommended this hotel to others - The hotel is very clean, comfortable and up to date with a wonderful breakfast to start your day.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bathroom is tiny. Beds are not great. Coming and check in is little challenging
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was great having our own bathroom. We enjoyed the breakfast & the place was really clean.
- K (8/5): - Nice place with decent price considering everything in Iceland is super expensive. Breakfast is great, fresh and delicious.
- JenniferCrane (8/5): - The room is very big. Since it's surrounded by local residences, be careful when you park your vehicle: dont take the local's park lot.
- Sandesh (10/5): - Friendly staff , one even offered to drop us off to the Bsi terminal and finally did. Breakfast options are good , no keys so it’s a bit hi-tech aka codes compared to the other hotels in Iceland. Negatives are it’s away from the harbor and has no flybus drop off and there is no human in the reception after 3. We had the codes so it did not affect us. Rooms are comfortable and spacious
- Craig (10/5): Grimur Hotel and Iceland - 2019 - Amazing! Very friendly, welcoming, helpful, quiet, clean.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean property, wonderfull place, convenient bed, warm room, shared but not least kitchen.Everything perfect!:)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Self check in so no receptionist. was clean and decent. pillows were flat. basic breakfast.
- Verified traveler (6/5): No tv and noice from pizzeria - This is a low service guest house. Everything works perfect and easily. The room was clean and nice. But this is my first hotel stay in a room that has no tv. It was ok since we were not going to use it anyway. We had dinner at the lovely pizzeria downstairs. It is superb. But as our room was right above it we heard soft noise from a fan or something. Still I slept well. No regrets and maybe I’ll go to Grímur again. But then I’ll ask for a room away from the street and with TV. And I’ll go for the pizzas again.
- CJB_NYC (8/5): - Overall I had a great stay. Atmosphere is more B&B-ish than hotel, though. Staff is only onsite for a few hours of the day, so if you need or want something after (their) hours, you're on your own. Pizzeria and supermarket onsite was a bonus. Sure, you can purchase items for less money in other places but you can't beat the convenience. Very close to downtown Reykjavik, less than 10 minutes driving, if you have a car (which I did). Standard fare for breakfast (cereals, yogurt, whole fruit). Would've been great to have a hot option. Would have also been nice to have drawers for storage, vs just an open closet with hangers. Keyless entry was cool, but I found the door got stuck a few times; apparently you have to push it just right to get it to open on the first try. You get the hang of it, eventually. Wifi worked great but no TV's onsite. Do you need them? Not necessarily, but it would've been nice to have. We ended up streaming Netflix from my computer each night (again, great wifi connectivity). Overall, I had a great stay and would recommend the hotel to others.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great value - Self service hotel - easy checkin - good breakfast options - clean & neat
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean comfy with good breakfast, good location for Reykjavik and tiuring the island
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything was exactly as advertised except for the check in process. I didn’t receive my code by email, hotel staff said it was sent, so I can only assume there was a breakdown in communication between hotel and ebookers.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I appreciated how efficient this hostel was and especially enjoyed the fairly comprehensive free breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This was a slightly strange booking as it was located on the third floor of a shopping area. There weren't any actual staff on location, although they were easily reachable via phone. Important to check your email for the code to get in beforehand! This hotel is ideal if you want to avoid interact with staff. Although the location was nice as it was close to downtown and the rooms were very clean and spacious. We weren't able to stay for breakfast so not sure how that is. Overall it was a nice place to stay, just maybe a bit over-priced.
- Matthew (10/5): Lovely stay - Was pleasantly surprised with the room. I liked the key code access and had a nice shop in the building. Would definitely recommend for the price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Awesome location very clean hotel all excellent will book again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent service! - Lovely modern minimalist budget hotel, conveniently located to the city centre. Staff by the name of Suzanna was amazing. We had issues with our original travel plans, and she went above and beyond to help retrofit our booking. Spacious room, decent breakfast spread.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Super clean and soo soo conveinet to check in! We will definitely stay here again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - No tv, but that is ok. No staff for the check in - that was different but not a problem. The email explained everything.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Self serve hotel meaning you check yourself in via key code. Hotel is top floor of three story building. The bottom two floors are shops and a pizza restaurant. The advertised picture does not give this impression. But location gives you an excellent view of the city and is very quiet.
- Trever (10/5): - We thought everything was great! The self checkin was smooth! The staff was so accommodating (even when we arrived HOURS earlier than expected, they had a room ready for us 3hrs before check in time). The adjoining rooms made everything so simple. The kids loved their bunk bed! We rented a car and that seemed to be the best option for us. But the parking situation was simple and free! When we return to Iceland again, you can bet that we’ll book Grimur again! Very modern hostel feel but with hotel privacy and comfort. Breakfast was delicious and fed adults and picky children as well! Bonus stores (like a bigger Aldi) were close by so snacks and supplies weren’t far away. Pizza place downstairs is very good! USB plugs on all lamps, super convenient! We can’t say more good things about this place.
- Paul (8/5): - Hotel Grimur is more like a hostel really with very few bells and whistles, but it s very clean, the staff are excellent and it was perfect for our trip. The breakfast was continental, but fresh and tasty. There are coffee and tea making facilities in the communal area as well as a fridge and microwave. There were no TV's at the hotel which was a bit of a shock lol, but it was not a problem.
I would use this hotel again if I go back to Iceland
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Hospitality plus! Friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms.
- Stephanie (10/5): - This hotel is very self sufficient which was very convenient. No one was going to be at the hotel to check us in however a code to get in the door was emailed to us ahead of time. We had no problems checking in. The room was great, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Stayed here for one night before my flight home. No check is needed at this place as where they will send you a key code and your room number a few days before your arrival in a email. No staff at the location after 3pm. Overall the room we had was nice and comfy. Spacious bathroom but have a small sink. No tv in your room or anywhere in the hotel. The hotel remind me of a dorm room environment. We all share the common area.
- MarkH (8/5): - Grimur Hotel is located in the suburbs of Reykjavik. Parking is free and available and outside the noisy town center. The staff is friendly and accommodating. They let us store our luggage after checkout and until our flight time. They even let us take a shower in the communal bathroom.
The rooms do not have televisions, which may be a good thing. We did not linger long and were able to get out and enjoy the scenery and culture of Iceland.
The complimentary breakfast is satisfactory and filling. It is a bit unusual. It consisted of cold cereal and milk, Skyr yogurt, toast, butter and jam. And, ham and pepperoni lunch meat.
If you are used to using a wash cloth int he shower, best bring one. Like European hotels, Grimur supplied towels, but no washclothes. I really have no idea how they scrub themselves there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - wonderful stay! thank you! I recommend this hotel to future visitors!
- Colleen (10/5): - Excellent place to stay, feels like home. Very clean and quiet and the complimentary breakfast is such an added bonus.
- Cinthia (10/5): Nice Hotel! - We had a great experience. Lovely hotel and customer service.
- Jane (10/5): - So gracious a hosting by Susanna the hotel host. Our room was spotless, we arrived so early from airport & had our luggage put in a safe storage and were offered tea before we headed downtown. An easy busride to city center. Lovely breakfast. Great all around accommodation.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean and functional for one night stay - Clean, very comfortable, small room and bathroom, but very functional. Decent breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Close to the city - Very friendly and accommodating staff. Ease of check in and check out and the concept of a self service hotel.
- Vincenzo (6/5): Hostel or hotel - I have never stayed at any hotel that didn't have some form of television, until now. It felt more like a hostel than hotel. I know Iceland has a reputation for being expensive but what I got for what I paid was definitely not good. The extractor fan in the shower room never went off and it is right by the head of the bed. Couldn't get my knees under the 'table' to use my laptop. Staff are only there in the mornings. Paper thin walls did not help when anyone was moving around, above below or at the sides.
- Richard (10/5): Excellent start to a great vacation! - We had a great vacation! Grímur Hotel was clean, comfortable and set up with the traveler in mind! Easy access to come and go and they were super friendly!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Not so good breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Not close to town, but solid choice. Easy check in.
- ben (8/5): Good spot for car access - Enjoyed staying here due to access to motorways. Rooms are a little small but that doesn’t matter because all you do is shower and sleep. Breakfast served in morning was great and good start to day. Clean and easy. To top it off there is small supermarket downstairs and the best pizza in Iceland is located at front of building.
- F.Simms (10/5): - Easy to check in and out. Self serve system. Breakfast had great options for continental style. Clean room and hotel. Susanna our desk host was great and super helpful went beyond expected. Hotel is on second floor of small shopping building with great pizzeria on lower level. Good free parking and easy to get in and out of area to visit attractions.
- Liza (10/5): - Being the first time we visited Iceland, I was not sure where to stay. I took a chance and reserved Hotel Grimur through expedia, and we were all very happy we did! What a nice surprise :) I reserved the two bedroom with a private bathroom. First room has two twins put together making it a king size bed, and the other with a twin size bunk bed. Perfect for our family! The hotel is impecably clean, furnishings are modern, minimalistic and seem brand new. Towels are soft, beds are comfortable, and hotel very quiet for a good night’s sleep! Staff is there early in the morning and leave early afternoon. If you need help reserving tours, taxis, etc make sure you talk to front desk in the morning. Zuzanna (front desk) and Geta (house keeping) both were very friendly and helpful! if you decide to take a bus from airport make sure it’s the orange bus, not the gray line! They won’t take you to your hotel. Once there, you can take inner-city bus to downtown Reykjavik right in front of the hotel (line 11). Just make sure you have exact cash for bus, or buy your ticket ahead of time at the convenience store under the hotel. Also on street level you have a great pizza place (no gluten free options though). When we reserved we knew the place had a communal kitchen but we did not know breakfast was included! Another great surprise :) I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone and stay here again!
- Ron (8/5): Nice, clean, comfortable hotel in Reykjavik - We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. It had a hostel type feel but the rooms were sufficiently large, comfortable, clean and well kept. I would recommend the hotel if you have transportation.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - door code didn't work but was quickly resolved
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean. Easy to park. Good breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Easy to check in (got en email with instructions in advance). The room was clean and cozy. Sigga, at the front desk, was very helpful and knowledgeable when suggesting places of interest. We enjoyed our trip to that beautiful country and some day will return to make more discoveries. Thanks. Carlos & Nadiya
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent service and clean.
- Gi (8/5): Nice hotel out Reykjavik - My first room faced a busy road and I could hear the traffic all night. The wind was also quite loud. I was given another room on the back side the next night and it was perfect - very quiet and with a nice view. The breakfast was pretty decent. The primary negative is that this is a self-service hotel so if you miss the hotel "clerk" in the morning (who was extremely nice and helpful), you have no one to consult for any reason. The hotel is also outside Reykjavik and taxis are extremely expensive - $30 one way to go to Reykjavik. There is a bus but even the bus drivers did not know which bus stopped in front of the hotel. Also note that the hotel is on the second or third floor of a business building rather than a stand-alone hotel but that a pizza place and a mini-grocery store are in the small building.
- Robert (8/5): Great Value and Clean - Great place for the money. Nice, basic breakfast. Very clean.
- Rachael (8/5): Definitely worth staying at - Well priced hotel for Iceland. The self check in went fine. The lovely day time receptionist was most helpful and efficient.
- Sanh (10/5): A memorable hotel experience. - Very pleased. Building looks just recently renovated, roomy from private to public areas. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Stay is comfortable and affordable even received free upgrade. First, one night then ended up staying three more.
- ANGELO (10/5): Quite, easy to get to, close to the city. - The staff was fantastic! The one part we liked a lot, is that besides our bathroom in our large room, they have three other bathrooms in the hallway, clean and spacious, so NO WAITING for one of your family members to get out of the bathroom! on the so so side...we are Italian/American and would definitely skip the pizza downstairs!!!! LOL
Angelo and family
- maria (10/5): Nice and clean - Modern, nice and clean, has a dinning room and kitchen that can be accessed 24 hours a day. A good selection is offered for breakfast, but coffee and tea is available throughout the day.
- Weekendexplorer (8/5): Good base from which to explore - Good location to get out and explore Reykjavik if you have a hire care. We liked the self check in and the room and bathroom were very clean. Facilities were communal so if you wanted a drink in the morning you had to go out to make it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): The Grimur is great! - A lovely hotel with unique self check-in which worked very well. The communal areas and room were very clean and newly refurbished (although no TV). The free breakfast was very good, plenty of variety and healthy options. The member of staff on the desk in the morning was lovely, very polite, friendly, helpful and booked my bus back to the airport for me. When I booked the hotel I had planned on having a car which is why I booked this hotel as it had free parking however, in the end I gave my hire car back early (separate issue - don't ever book a car with Green Motion at Keflavick Airport), therefore the only downside was it's location as it was difficult to walk anywhere from the hotel. If you have a car then I would definitely recommend this hotel.
- C (8/5): Good affordable no frills option - This hotel is above a small strip mall. We didn't realize that until we checked in because the pictures do not make that clear. Moreover, there is a self-check in process; staff only seemed to be present during breakfast. Overall, the room was clean. Our room was right next to the dining area, so we were worried about it being noisy, but that wasn't an issue. The breakfast was good and filling. We would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasant stay - Rooms are pretty new and clean.
- Axel (8/5): Great option - Convenient location when having a car; free parking. The automatic check-in was smooth. The room was bigger than we expected and very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was fine.
- David (10/5): Great place to stay - probably want car - Great place to stay in Reykjavik if you have your own car. Easy access to downtown and to highway for day trips. We did not use the bus system so can't comment on that. Clean. Easy to check in. Standard breakfast. Great facilities. Would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good but ... - Nice little hotel but out of the way and no more than a bed and bathroom. The only staff available is during breakfast time but she was very helpful. The supermarket in the building is a life saver - probably because we went during Easter and everything, everything, in the suburbs shuts down!!
- Sarah (10/5): Clean modern rooms - Lovely experience - clean rooms simply designed - with a shared eating area - including microwave for those wishing to buy food from the supermarket located directly under the hotel and heat it up - or those bringing their own. V helpful staff - a great mix of guests from all over the world. The hotel is a bit out of town and a bus ride into town cost £7 each way. We hired a car but you aren’t allowed to drink any alcohol if you drive. Others we met said they bought all their tours from the hotel. So many great things to see and do including the new Lava tunnel experience and the preach plane wreck.
- Danielle (10/5): - Hotel was nice, clean, and breakfast was very nice/filling. Local area was close to downtown-we had a rental car so cannot speak to access to downtown Reykjavík via public transportation.
- Sage (8/5): Nice hotel, slightly out of the centre - Simple convenient hotel, breakfast is well catered for, bus stop outside the hotel to take you downtown into Reykavik centre, 10 minute bus ride- you can purchase the ticket from the shop downstairs. We used airport direct for door to door transfers and Nice Travel for our excursions, who also pick you up from the hotel. Only really a pizza place in the vicinity, the pizzas are not bad! We ate pizza three nights in a row, there is a shop downstairs if you would like a ready meal. Overall good value for money, my husband struggled without a TV at night but I was fine.
- shoaib (10/5): Very Happy and worth visiting - been amazing, highly recommended
- Jeann’e (10/5): Perfect hotel for my family - Very comfortable beds, good location, very cute, loved the lobby, ok breakfast, friendly staff (only there in the morning), they emailed me perfect check in information, yummy pizza place attached. I’m would totally stay again!
- Brian (8/5): No human contact - great shower - We booked the room at the very last minute and were not aware that the hotel had an automated check in ... ie. you receive an email with a code to get in and your room number instead of speaking with "a human". The email with this information was not received until after we arrived, so we were a bit surprised that there wasn't a normal check in process. The hotel did have an intercom system and the issue was quickly resolved.
Parking for the hotel was not clear as the hotel shares a space with other businesses and there were signs all over the place that you would be towed if parked for more than 30 minutes. This led to some worry on my part, having information or signage to indicate parking for the hotel would be helpful.
Other than that, it was a decent hotel, clean rooms, great shower! :)
- David (10/5): Quiet small hotel - Very clean quiet hotel with helpful and friendly staff, nice not to worry about keys for rooms etc all you need to remember is your 4 digit code to get in. The continental breakfast on offer was adequate and you could help yourself to tea and coffee all day if required.
- jonno (10/5): Perfect for our needs - The hotel was perfect for what we required it for
Nice rooms and great breakfast
Really helpful staff.
- J (10/5): Excellent - Lovely hotel with a relaxed atmosphere. Rooms were clean, comfy and warm. Breakfast was great and plenty of it. Loved the communal area and that the hotel left out tea and coffee facilities which were free. Bus service was just outside the hotel door into Reykjavík. Would definitely stay here again.
- VML (10/5): Nice small hotel - This hotel is unusual in that you can check yourself into the hotel. We arrived for a very late check-in causing staff member to believe we were checking in early, but that was cleared up quickly. There was also a mix-up in our room requirements in that we asked for 2 rooms for our 5 night stay, but was initially assigned one room. We did get 2 rooms for 3 nights, before moving into a room with 2 beds and a cot.
The rooms were nice and the common area was large and comfortable. There was a small refrigerator that guests could use. Breakfast items did not vary much, but there was enough variety for our stay. The hotel lets you use there phone for calls in Reykjavik. There is recycling for plastics. The staff was accommodating and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything is perfect except that you will find no one to talk with in case of an issue
- anthony (4/5): Terrible mattress and pillow - We booked the room for four adult& received two single bed with one bunk bed. The bed sheet did not fit over mattress, All pillows are collapsed & do not have support. Some of the staff are not helpful.
