Guest Reviews
- christopher (6/5): - Wasn't bad for the price Ive seen worse lol 😆
- hutchins (1/5): Very poor., I was afraid to take any pictures - Bad location, no one was in the office, you had to call , thr room was unlocked, he said go to your room the door was opened, the key was inside the room. The microwave, was not plugged in, I plugged it in, did not work, I had to call back to report this, about 15 min. Someone came and tried it. He had to get another one. There was no air-conditioned in the room. There was a ceiling fan, with the only light in the room. No table lights at all, it look like the door was kicked in.
- nicolle (4/5): - The bathroom was leaking the entire time, my room had spiders everywhere, the curtains don't cover the windows, the wifi did not work either, there is no ac just a ceiling fan and it's very hot out
- Nicholas (2/5): - I’ll be asking for my money back.
I did not feel safe staying there.
There was not a person on site to actually check in.
There was a key left in the room.
The door had a push button lock, and that was it.
I could see light all the way around the door and it would not have taken anything to actually push the door open with the pathetic lock.
The motel has not been updated since the 1970s at best and they were scuffs all around the room on the wall and could not even be bothered to be painted.
I would not recommend this hotel for anyone unless it is a last resort
- Rada (10/5): Worked out well for us - We were in the area for a ski trip which was a last minute addition, so accomodations were scarse. The Motel had rooms at a reasonable price. We had fairly low expectations. Everything was fine. A few things could be improved: 1. Need better curtains for the window that faces out front due to a very bright porch lamp.
2. Need a curtain for the bathroom window. We had to place a folder to block the view!
3. It was very hot in the room! Good for this winter weather if course, but was hard to sleep. There was no way to control the temperature. We opened the window for the second night and it made it less secure but more tolerable.
- Bryan (7/5): Clean comfortable room for two -
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Not clean. Wouldn't have stayed given another choice. But baby was over driving and we needed to stop. You get what you pay for and even then I think it was too much. No front desk. Had to call for check in and check out. Felt very wrong to stay. Will not be returning.
- Ernie (7/5): I was well pleased with the facilities. I slept very well every night, which is a rarity. - I do a Fall Foliage Trip every year. I hit nature sites every day. Some can be as far away as one hundred and twenty miles away, as was Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. I always try to pick a central location to all the sites that I will be visiting. The Mountaineer Motel was a good pick. I was pleased with the room, the location, and the amenities. Wi-Fi service was very good, which is always very important to me. If I were to ever repeat a visit into this area for a Fall Foliage Trip, I would stay here again.
- Fred (2/5): Absolutely the worst - Building should be condemned as unfit for human habitation. There was no heating. Bed was a ultra soft mattress on the floor. In my 82 years this is by far the worst hotel I have ever had the misfortune to experience and pay $110 for the privilege.
- James (10/5): - Close to Blackwater falls state park
- Dennis (10/5): Great Fall Get-away! - we were traveling to enjoy the fall scenery in the mountains. The Mountaineer Motel was perfect for our stay. It provided a place for rest as we traveled through the mountains.
- Kathryn (4/5): - Needs updated, contactless entry at night, bugs and dust
- Markus (8/5): - It is a very simple motel and the property is quite old. But the owner is friendly and does his best. It is solid for a night or two to a fair price.
- Merritt (4/5): Disappointing -
- Golladay (3/5): Poor - While this is not the best review, ultimately, it provided comfortable beds (no bugs) and a night of sleep. Good price. There is no carpet to trap creepy crawlies. It does not match pictures in the least. No AC, no chain lock on door. No bedside light or plug. Behind dresser dirty. Sink had soap scum, shower curtain maybe not clean (water spots between folds).
Outside could use clean up (weeds very tall, trash present)
- Marc (10/5): - Great service
- George (8/5): - Good spot to stop for the night
- Anna (8/5): - It’s a basic place. Sheets and towels were clean, bathroom tub and sink clean. Sure, the place could use a lot of TLC but the basics are there. Close to ski areas (within 40 min). We would suggest: some ability to control the heat, and more breathable mattress covers. The plastic cover gets very hot at night…beyond that we didn’t encounter anything we didn’t expect based on the hotel rating.
- Jessica (6/5): Fine for a quick stay. - It was as advertised and reviewed. No Frills. Building is old, room was not very well light. Insulation is not great as you can hear some sounds. room was cold and you don't have thermostat, but they responded promptly and brought a space heater. Beds were not very nice, but adequate. No Coffee maker or shampoo conditioner. Fridge, and microwave worked fine.
- Gigi (2/5): - The floors were unswept. The dresser drawers had a bunch of food debris and wrappers in them. . I asked the cleaning staff about lowering the room temp and was told the manager (who was not present or available) controlled that and would not lower the room temp. The room was unsanitary and was unfit for our 3 young children. I contacted the manager and told him we could not stay there. We were there for 40 mins and left. The manager has not returned any of my messages . This is honestly the worst excuse of a motel I have ever seen.
- Ronnie (2/5): - Pictures used in advertisements are fake! The upgrade is simply a con. The actual motel is seems to be filled with questionable tenants. Not a safe environment and quite disgusting.
- Allen (8/5): - Pleased with our stay for 2 nights recently. Motel is older and needs some updates-however, our beds were clean, refrigerator and freezer large, and room was clean. Would recommend if you are looking for a room and don’t care about fancy inside instead a decent cost.
- Michael (8/5): - Many updates were made. Very friendly staff. Nice place to stay for the money.
- Janice (8/5): - A little bit older, but has everything you need. The fridge was a big size than you normally see. Nice for holding all your food and drinks. The room was spacious. My grandchildren and I enjoyed our stay. Check in was easy. WiFi worked.
- Jerri (4/5): - The hotel staff were great and brought us everything we needed when asked. There was a big tv, but definitely dated and very old beds.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - There was no bed frames the mattress and box springs were on the floor
- Tobby (2/5): U can do better for $73 - 1 of the 2 beds was broke.. really?? A bed broke when i checked in. Price went from like $53 to $73..
- Julie (2/5): - Upon arrival we were told our room was open and the keys would be on the table. When entering the room, during Covid-19, at 6pm the cleaning lady was laying on the bed. She did not move, yelled out the
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was quiet, but hotel owner was rarely there and the check in/out process was a bit odd
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Staff wasn't very friendly & Outside of hotel wasn't very clean & alot of eyesight. Around that needs clean up..Look like a homeless place. Im sorry didn't stay there.
- Michael (4/5): Unwelcoming - There was no one on site when I arrived. They left my door open with the key on the table.
They offered no service at all.
Beds are old, and the towels were ratty.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - You are literally on the top of a mountain at this place. I got here around 10 PM, and the entire town was shut down (on a Saturday night). If you're looking for solitude, this is the place...just you and the wood paneling.
- BeamerBoy08 (2/5): The Absolute WORSE place I have ever stayed!!!! - This is absolutely the worse place I have stayed in my 73 years on this fine earth. In placing my reservation, I was basing it on a 7.2 rating at the booking site. Everything was horrible, the lobby was filled with junk, the staff didn't know how to give us a receipt, the floors in the room were spongy, the carpet stained, the curtains so thin they were transparent, the bathroom was moldy, and dirty, we asked for a key so we could go out and they didn't have one, we told the staff that the shower drain was plugged, so he gave us a plunger. It was late when we got there and a fair distance to the next town or we would not have stayed. DO NOT STAY HERE, it is a dump. It should be condemned.
- Sarah (10/5): - Small town but Beautiful scenery we would stay again when traveling through.
- Tammy (4/5): - Motel in need of investors to put money into it. Business seems really run down.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The property was in desperate need of maintenance but the worse was not that but the absolute lack of cleanliness. Out room hadn't even been vacuumed and there was still other people’s Doritos, popcorn, hairs and toothpicks. The shower needed scouring and the curtain had brown gunky stuff on it. To this add the fact that the smell of tobacco was so intense that it felt as if someone was in there smoking. Even the sheets had burn holes. The owner apologized over the phone (no one was there for check in or check out) and has explained this is not normal. We will NEVER be returning to find out even though as an apology he has comped our next stay.
- Kara (4/5): So disappointed - Holes in walls. Dollar store pillows (lumpy). There is no way to control the temperature in your room. I was freezing the first night. No one was ever at the office. No one came in to give me clean towels. I had to go buy my own. Very disappointed.
- sarah (2/5): - The furniture was thrift store, with mismatching bedspreads. There was no light blocking to the curtains, one pair of which had a ten-inch long rip, the other had a perhaps 18-inch water stain. The chairs were stained, the carpet had been non-professionally installed and had rips and stains. One of the tables literally spun on its axis, and when I say they were thrift store furnishings, it was bad thrift store, maybe $20 worth of stuff. The room was painted in what I think was supposed to look like a sunrise or sunset, but it didn't work--it was smears of pastel paint. There was a large patch of 2 1/2 foot weeds outside the door, which probably accounted for some of the quarter-sized mosquitoes I swatted, and there was random crap outside the doors--I don't mean decoration; I mean coolers and trash. My room had a tin bucket with a plastic bag and upside down green aerosol can beside it.
I'm really reaming on the guy, and I'm sure it's not easy running a mom-and-pop motel in a corporate age. The manager was nice enough, but the office was also in disarray, and since the motel was supposedly full for several days, he should take some of his room fees to Target and get some linens and furniture, so his guests can have a less depressing experience. There was a fridge and microwave in the room, which was nice, and the bed (which was a box springs and mattress on the floor) was comfortable. But even though it was cheap, I just felt bad about having spent my money there.
- John (10/5): Nice clean spot to rest. - Mount storm is a quiet place, but close to ski fields and much cheaper than the rest of the places to stay. I like the owner and have stayed at two of the locations and they are quite decent.
- Roy (8/5): - Clean, warm, and comfortable. Staff was very helpful. Very quiet, slept well. Will go again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): You will have to help yourself if a late check-in - No one was at the desk to check us in. The check in door had a phone number to call and no one answered. I called 10x. The door of a room was open and we helped ourself because it was late and we were tired. An 1hr later someone called and we told them what we did. Its central air per staff but it was hot in the room we had and there was no one to complain too. There was too much issues and I would not recommend
- Alan (8/5): OK for overnight stop - Room comfortable but dated, some tlc required. Wifi worked OK. OK for an overnight stop on a road-trip.
- paul (6/5): - If you're looking for a bed to sleep on in the middle of nowhere, this is for you. Beautiful view of the stars at night.
- H8424KPjohnk (6/5): Know what you’re getting beforehand - If you are planning a romantic rendezvous, look elsewhere. If you’re used to four star hotels, look elsewhere. If you’re out for a couple days with the boys, and just need a place to hang your clothes, and sleep this could fit the bill.
Our rooms were not fancy but were pretty clean. Beds were ok, and showers had plenty of hot water. You might need to take motion-sickness medicine before sitting on the toilet! It rocks pretty good.
VERY basic accommodations but it’s priced accordingly.
- John (6/5): Very basic and very inexpensive. - A decent place to sleep for the night. Seemed safe and reasonably clean. It was less than $50 per night, so that is pretty good.
- Nathaniel (4/5): Get what you pay for - The price was great but the heat went out during our visit. The good service came into play when the manager brought us a portable heater so there is that.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Never again!!!! - With GPS, i still missed the hotel because there were no lights on ANYWHERE, accept the doors. Dark as pitch; turned around and then I almost missed it again. I mentioned the light to staff person, who was out walking in the dark, not inside the office, which was locked, and he said "yea we need to replace it!" Light outside my door was on all night, no switch inside to turn it off and light was coming in through the curtains all night.
The room was clean, I guess, lighting was horrible, a ceiling light only with one light bulb. No night table lamp to read, or even just see the bed without the overhead, which was glaring. I turned on the water in the shower to use it and it came out brown...dark and nasty, it finally came out clear, mostly. Hot water was barely there so i worried it would run out before I rinsed.
- M Eric (10/5): Blast from the Past~! - The Mountaineer has mot changed much in decades, but the carpet was vclean, te room was quiet, the internet worked and the Manager was vry nice. I'm originally fron Oakland and it was a Bargain to get to see tge Autumn Glory Festiva's 50th anniv (I was at the 1st!!!
- Chong (10/5): - It is a nice experience, friendly staff, clean and comfortable room.
- Mike (4/5): Dirty hotel only good if you have no other options - first I want to say, the manager is a nice man that tried to resolve our issues however you can't remove musty and dank smells from a room within a couple hours. All the rooms and the office had the smell. Our blankets had burn holes in them and the phone in the room was stickier than Lollipop. The bathroom need a good cleaning with bleach as well. I understand it's an old and cheap motel but thoroughly cleaning would make this place way better. Use odor killing primer paint on the walls, shampoos the carpets, steam clean the bed spreads and purchase new linens and the place would be good to go. These aren't super expensive upgrades and can help improve the motel.
- JC0l (6/5): Place to lay your head - Picking up a load in the area the next day and checked in here. There was a microfridge, TV with cable, comfortable enough bed, phone that you could call anywhere no charge they said and a bathroom. I had no problems and it was quiet.
- rickhU7094FH (4/5): Not for your faint of heart - Stayed here for 2 months, if I was not working 6-10s I would of stayed somewhere else, mountaineer motel includes a bed and a bathroom, don't expect much more then that. Drive 30 min in any direction and stay somewhere else
- ChandaS261 (2/5): Stay away - We looked on their website and it looked to be a nice place to stay so we made reservations. Well when we got to the motel it was gross.it isn't kept up at all. The rooms was old and nasty looking. Carpet nasty and beds was gross.cobb webs everywhere. So to the store we went which was about 40 minutes away to buy cleaning supplies. There is nobody in the office and there is no heat in the rooms its all controlled from the main office which nobody is ever at. Stay somewhere else besides in mount storm . They have two places here and both are not worth staying at not even for your pet to stay in.
- sandrae35 (2/5): Creepy! - Stayed one night at the Mountaineer Motel over the 4th of July weekend! Ugh! Four adults, we had two rooms. They looked as if they had not been cleaned in a week or so. The ceiling tiles were stained, the bathrooms had cobwebs and was dirty. The carpets were lumpy and badly stained and gross. The furniture was very old, broken and not clean. There was a big gap around the door to the room. For some reason the beds had new looking clean linens and bed spreads...if not for that I would have slept in our truck. I get this is a country motel in a very small town...but I was not prepared for it to be that gross! Drive a little further to Davis or Thomas...don't stay here!!!!
- WaltonTiger (8/5): Not a bad visit - This motel is like many old motels on Rt 55 that were built before Interstate 68 bypassed much of the traffic out of the area. The receptionist was very polite, but you have to call a phone number listed on the door after hours to get him to come to the office. The room was comfortable but the carpet was worn. The bed was comfortable but somewhat low to the floor. The bathtub was large. The room had a microwave and a refrigerator. The room does not have a thermostat, and it appears that the heating or cooling is set in the central office. The room remained very warm on a very cold night. The television internet was good, and the internet, while slow, was good for an isolated area.
Word of caution: The next morning we drove to Morgantown, WV, and we did not see a single hotel fifty miles west of this motel on Route 50. The nearest town of any size on Route 50 west of Mt Storm is Grafton, and it is at least on hour and a half away through some of the windiest road you will ever see through an isolated area known for severe winter weather. There are two hotels in Mt. Storm. If you are tired and need to stop to spend the night, you had better grab one of the hotels in Mt. Storm.
