- Gerardo (9/5): A hidden gem in a remote belgian countryside. - This hotel is what one would call a hidden gem. It is hidden in the countryside away from the bustle and noise of large cities. It is a historic building, originally a cattle farm in the 1800’s.
It has a fantastic restaurant, we eat out a lot but this is an excellent cuisine.
- Bart (9/5): -
- Mia (9/5): Top !

Lekker ontbijt. Vriendelijk personeel

- Marc (9/5): Mooie omgeving voor een fietsverblijf. - Prachtige locatie met uitzicht op de heuvels. Het verblijft heeft enkele terrassen. Uitstekend ontbijt - elke dag iets speciaal. Telkens keuze uit verschillende verse producten. Mooi verwarmd buitenzwembad. Vriendelijk personeel altijd klaar om te helpen. Niks

- nele (7/5): - De omgeving is subliem!
- Marc (9/5): -
- Hubert (9/5): - Het verwarmd zwembad.
Het restaurant in huis. De badkamer onder het dak, gevaar om hoofd te stoten ...

- Susan (9/5): Outstanding friendly hotel in the countryside. - Amazing room which included wooden bathtub in bathroom and private patio with outdoor settees. Really friendly welcoming staff, and incredible breakfast. Dinner was slow due to busy evening, so we had to miss dessert as we were tired after long drive.
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely beautiful! Gluten free breakfast available with knowledgeable staff. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious. Open plan bathroom.
- Eurocyclists (10/5): A very pleasant experience - This is a gem of a hotel. The owners and their staff are exceptionally friendly. We had an excellent dinner in the Sparhof gourmet restaurant on the day of arrival and all breakfasts too. The property literally sits in the middle of the countryside but is less than two kilometres along a pretty lane from the village of Dranouter. Plenty of bicycle parking in fenced enclosure outside with ebike charging points for those that need them! Great looking pool for when the weather is nice. A lovely place to unwind if you are exploring the area. Restaurant closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (we missed the warning about this at the time of booking). No problem as we were recommended the De Musette in Dranouter and the Sparhof owner booked the table for us.
- Igor (10/5): absolutely lovely place!! - amazing, absolutely amazing!! so kind, lovely people work here, we had a feeling we came to family holiday home. amazing breakfast, great beers, beautiful nature.. all you need to great stay!
we had to have some shirts ironed for wedding celebration and they organized it for us!
such an amazing place..
- Timothy (10/5): - Beautiful property. Wonderful staff
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Frederick (10/5): Exceptional - The owners and their staff were super friendly and helpful. The hotel is a lovely building and our room was very comfortable. The hotel will be even better in the near future when work on a pool in the grounds is completed. We had dinner in the restaurant which was excellent, as was the inclusive breakfast. Log fire in the restaurant gave a cosy ambiance. Secluded location was nice, but was reached by small country roads which made it a little tricky to find, but that may just have been our satnav taking a not very direct route! In common with most hotels there was nowhere convenient such as a shelf to put washbags in the bathroom, or to hang towels near the washbasin. Also, some sort of toilet roll holder is needed, maybe a floor standing one as window ledge is not easy to reach.
- Zita (10/5): Relaxing stay in the countryside, yet only a short drive away from amenities - Hidden gem in a tranquil setting, run by friendly professionals! Clean and comfy room, delicious breakfast. I look forward to returning and hopefully sampling the dinner in the restaurant too. Nothing!
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (10/5): Top rated stay - Fantastic location, superb comfortable room. First class restaurant with amazing service. Extensive breakfast. Lovely staff who were always keen to help. This is a great place to stay. Can not ratr highly enough. Love to stay again. Nothing
- Doug (10/5): Countryside Treat - Smaller family owned rustic hotel in wonderful surroundings. Super restaurant with outside seating too. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Friendly welcome.
- rnicho241543 (10/5): Wonderful stay - Unfortunately only stopped over for 1 night, staff and host most welcoming and great hospitality. Room was lovely and very comfy huge bed.
We ate in the on site restaurant was was not disappointed, the food was exceptional as was breakfast. We had a really relaxing overnight stay..
- Paganman84 (10/5): Excellent - The staff, service and rooms at the Sparhof are excellent. Breakfast continental with eggs to order cooked with the option of fried, boiled, poach and scrambled. There is no disabled parking close to the entrance however there is plenty of free parking. Expect to drive up small lanes, it is amazing to sit out in the evening listening to the birds also very quite just a nice place to relax and unwind. I have no hesitation at recommending this hotel.
NOTE: The restaurant and bar is closed all day Thursday.
- Flyer17854100188 (10/5): Excellent - This hotel was found at the last minute for a trip to Ypres for the Rememberence WeekendThey provided the GPS co ordinates which was just as well as it’s isolatedHowever the full car park on a Sat afternoon gives the hint how good the place isGot a great welcome , room was very large in the annex with an amazing bathroomThe food in the restaurant was 1st Class as were all the staff
- FarAway01728121794 (10/5): Peace & quiet in a great location - very understated from outside, plenty of parking available. Very welcoming as soon as you enter. Lovely hosts. Fabulous bar restaurant area serving great food. Room was very pleasant, clean warm and comfortable
- johnsX6820FE (10/5): A gem in the countryside - We were in this corner of Belgium to spend time at the Menin Gate, and to visit some of the war monuments and cemeteries related to the Ypres Salient. The Sparhof exceeded our expectations on almost every front. It is, as noted by other reviewers, situated in an out-of-the way location. In the world of GPS, this doesn't represent much of a challenge. The tradeoff is that you are in a quiet place that yet has both extraordinary service and unexpected amenities.
We looked at both standard and deluxe rooms before deciding on pursuing an upgrade to one of the rooms with beautiful views of a cow (and rabbit) grazed pasture. The room had a huge wooden bathtub and very modern bathroom. We didn't regret our choice. The room was comfortable, the bed great, and the tub alone worth the room cost.
The restaurant was a somewhat unexpected bonus. There was a wide range of dishes, and after one night in the room and restaurant, we extended our stay. The owner is also the chef, and he knows what he's doing in the kitchen. I have some dietary restrictions to work around, and he did an excellent job in modifying some local dishes to accommodate those in ways that took nothing away from the taste and variety of the food.
The service was attentive and personal. The whole place had a very local and welcoming vibe about it, and we wished we didn't need to leave after only 2 nights.
The room we were in could use some additional lighting and the wifi a bit more oomph, but otherwise we had nothing we would suggest to improve this lovely country inn. I almost hesitate recommending it as highly as I am for fear that many more people will be attracted to this little gem.
- Andrew (10/5): Quality Stay within an Hour of Dunkirk - This was our first night’s stay after a Ferry crossing on our way to Germany for holiday. The Sparhof is highly recommended and we would definitely use it again.
Just one word of warning, the Hotel is very remote, but use and trust SatNav and you will have no bother finding it.
We also booked a table in their Restaurant for an evening meal. The Restaurant is very popular with the local clientele and serves excellent food.
- Doug (10/5): Rustic Done Right! - Wonderful location but very remote. I was unlucky enough to stay on an evening when both the restaurant and bar were closed so be careful of that if, like me, you enjoy a glass of wine with your dinner. Nevertheless the wonderful De Bralle was recommended and only a short drive away. Internet was intermittent at best and the room a bit dark but this is such a fabulous place you could pretty much forgive anything! I was lucky enough to get a room upgrade (I'm sure the normal rooms would be good too) and enjoyed a soak in the big wooden tub. Breakfast was very good. I can't wait to get back and try on a night when the restaurant is open. Looks like this is a wonderful spot in the summer. The view of a little pond and local wildlife from my patio doors in the morning was also a treat.
- martindp (10/5): Homely and tranquil - and great quality - Finding an interesting, good quality place to stay - and dine - within around an hour's drive of Calais is not always easy, and finding dining options on a Sunday evening is partlcularly testing - but Sparhof, recently opened here, is a great discovery.
We stayed just one night, en route back to the Tunnel, about an hour and a quarter away. A beautifully tranquil rural location which would be tricky to find without satnav, but which turns out to be really popular with local Belgian/French diners - and it's not difficult to see why. The food is not only great quality, but the portions are very generous, served in an attractive dining room by an engaging and friendly team. The wine range is concise, but the Belgian beer list is suitably good.
The rooms (ours was ground floor) are very tasteful, with field views, large, modern shower and wooden bath, and very comfortable beds. No TV in the rooms but that seems appropriate for the location. There are 7 rooms. Wifi and parking is available.
Above all, the welcome from the owners is what makes the difference - friendly, charming and homely. We would love to stay again, and you can't say more than that.
- ElGrumpo (10/5): We Loved It - A lovely B&B type guest house with a great restaurant.
Nice clean rooms, very welcoming staff, beautiful views.
A good base to explore the local area and very close to Channel Tunnel.
However will not be for everyone.
Steep stairs upto the rooms that someone with a lower limb disability would struggle with.
If you would normally expect or want a TV or tea and coffee in the room then it not for you.
You will need a sat nav to find it as its very rural.
These all added to the charm for us.
Very nice well-priced beer on tap.
Thank you all, a lovely three nights.
- Martyn (10/5): - My wife and I stay for just one night, while visiting Ypres. The hotel is out of town in the country, down a narrow lane with fields all around, which adds to its charm. It only has 7 rooms, that have a cottage feel to them. The service we received from the couple who own the hotel was excellent, nothing was too much trouble.. I had one of the best steaks I have ever had in the restaurant and breakfast was fantastic. We will definitely stay there again,
