• Stefano (8/5): Ci tornerei - La posizione era eccellente molto vicino a tutti i servizi supermercato e fermata del tram a 5 minuti a piedi e a nemmeno 10 minuti quella della metro, in 15/20 minuti siete in centro e vicino alle principali attrazioni,il personale molto disponibile e gentile e la struttura tenuta molto bene. Anche il quartiere era molto tranquillo. Le dotazioni della stanza un po’ ridotte. Nel nostro caso, in una settimana non è mai stata pulita. E nel cortile, nonostante a cielo aperto, non si può fumare, ma lo capisco.
• Maia (8/5): - The room was quite spacious and had its own kitchen, which was very convenient for guests. The location is good — Dam Square is about a 20-minute walk away, so it’s not far. The hotel is situated in a quiet and peaceful green area by the canal, which made the stay very pleasant. It would be better if the room was a bit cleaner. 😊

• Jürg (6/5): Ingessmt alles gut!! - Historisches Gebäude und überhohe Räume!! Mein Weg zu meiner Unterkunft hatte 13 Türen🫢 Inkl. Lift!! Zum Teil unbehaglich, aber sie heizten und ich musste die Heizung höher stellen. Kein Balkon, dafür sehr grosse Fenster!
• Sylvie (9/5): Appartement de bon standing mais avec un manque important de vaisselle - Bel appartement situé dans un quartier calme. Proche de la zone touristique (moins de 30mn à pied). Proche du tram (moins de 5 mn à pied). Literie très correcte. Lave linge et lave vaisselle dans l'appartement. Nous n'avons pas apprécié le manque de vaisselle. Pourquoi mettre un lave vaisselle alors qu'il y a aussi peu de vaisselle? Une petite poêle, une petite casserole ...beaucoup trop petites pour cuisiner correctement. Uniquement 2 assiettes et pas de bols pour le petit déjeuner.Il a fallu réclamer plusieurs fois pour obtenir des verres, des mugs. Pas de saladier ni de planche à découper non plus mais ils n'en avaient pas à nous donner. D'autre part, il y a des stores extérieurs dont l'ouverture et la fermeture sont centralisées pour tout les appartements en même temps. Pendant notre séjour ils étaient fermés assombrissant l'appartement et le soleil ne pouvait pas réchauffer l'appartement. Nous avons eu froid car pas de chauffage et la couette était très fine. Il y a de très grandes fenêtres mais elles s'ouvrent difficilement que sur 10 cm.
• desgroup (8/5): Solid option for a suite if you don't mind an extra walk - The room was a good size with all the basics you need in the kitchen and bath. The room was clean and the staff was helpful. Everything was good, but not exceptional in any way. The area felt safe and was quiet even on King's Day. Access to public transit was reasonably close (5 minute walk to most of the key tram lines and a metro). If you want to go to the zoo or the botanical gardens they are very close. We traded off price for centrality with this hotel and it did make a difference. You had to walk an additional 10+ minutes to get to the action which did add up over the week we stayed in Amsterdam. Also, we were in the furthest section of the hotel which meant walking through two courtyards every time you went to your room. This was a bit of a pain. Finally, you could also hear the people walking around upstairs.

• Sean (7/5): Overall good stay at the Wittenberg. - Beautiful location next to a canal and close to public transportation and also various attractions. Walkable to the center for some people. Staff on hand to answer questions, replace towels, etc. A little spartan as to the kitchen and beds, for the price paid. Our unit became very hot and no A/C available, but we figured out this was due to solar gain and made sure we kept the windows covered when we were out for the day. No major complaints, other than the 21% national VAT on lodging and the surprise additional 12% city tax on lodging. The latter was collected upon check-in which we weren’t expecting. The ownership can’t control the tax rates, but ownership or Booking.com should be required to more clearly disclose the additional 12% tax required to be paid upon arrival. After paying all the taxes, this stay was vastly more expensive than our roomier apartment in London (across the street from Buckingham Palace) last summer.

• Charles (5/5): Great location but small beds. - It’s a great location near the University, trams and grocery store. Description of accommodation not accurate. Description stated a king size bed. Separate page description stated a queen size bed. Bed is actually two twins pushed together. Some of the furniture was stained.
• Ana (6/5): - O alojamento fica num bairro tranquilo, a cerca de 7 minutos encontramos um supermercado, o metro ou parques agradáveis para passear à beira do canal. Fizeram-nos um upgrade e ficámos com um apartamento de 1 quarto, mais confortável. Houve um problema (supostamente, no sistema) com o nosso pagamento - apesar de já termos pago tudo, por várias vezes recebemos comunicações de que tínhamos de pagar cerca de 250€ a mais. Isto gerou algum desconforto, desconfiança e senso de desorganização! O quarto tinha algumas falhas na limpeza, tivemos de pedir toalhas (pois esqueceram-se de deixar no apartamento) e as mesmas vinham com manchas de base (de maquilhagem) e cabelos. A cozinha só tinha 2 exemplares de tudo - 2 pratos, 2 canecas, 2 garfos, etc. - apesar de sermos só 2 pessoas é chato quando precisamos de um garfo ou colher extra para um segundo prato ou para servir, por exemplo. The apartment was spacious The rooms initially weren't very clean - there was hair on the counters and in the shower, the couch had a stain, the tables were sticky. We had to ask 3 times before there was a proper cleaning, but the staff did ultimately rectify the situation. The only other problem is that the kitchen sink was backing up from someone else's apartment. We asked multiple times for someone to come look at it and no one came. We didn't need the sink that much, so it wasn't a big deal, but we didn't feel like asking multiple times was not ideal if we had needed the sink.

Leider erhielten wir eine Ferienwohnung mit zwei Schlafzimmern im Keller. Die Zimmer konnten nicht gelüftet werden und waren sehr unattraktiv mit zwei kleinen Fenstern die nicht geöffnet werden konnten. Trotz unserer Reklamation konnte kein besseres Zimmer geboten werden, die Bilder auf Booking seien nur Beispiele. Wir haben noch zwei Mails gesendet (mit der Bitte an den Manager weiter zu leiten) aber nur Standardantworten bekommen. Sehr enttäuschend, dass wir nicht ernst genommen wurden.

The area around the Wittenberg is quiet, but active, with a beautiful little park by the canal nearby. We enjoyed the coworking space as well. The apartment could have been cleaner as the window sill in the kitchen was dirty, there was still hair in the shower and the bathroom floor was dirty. The biggest issue though was that the kitchen was not at all well-equipped. It is easier to list what was there- one single medium sized pot with lid, one single pan, a cheese grater, a (dull) chef's knife and cooking utensils (wooden spoons, etc). There was nothing to serve food, nothing with which to bake or roast food in the oven (no sheet pans, casseroles, oven mitts, etc). I asked for large and small pots (for pasta and sauce) and a cutting board. I was told by reception that those things were not provided. After some push back they agreed to providing a cutting board, saying that it should already be there. The lack of kitchen equipment made meals for a family of four difficult. Keep in mind, we had a 3 bedroom apartment, so it should be expected that there would be multiple people to cook for. You will need to purchase all the basics, including salt and pepper, cooking oil, paper towels and napkins. There was a dual washer/dryer, but the dryer did not work. The laundry facilities on site that were advertised were out of service (room was completely empty). There was routine drainage work scheduled on our side of the building that started around 7am on Saturday morning. By 9 am, we got up to the sound of Gangster's Paradise on the workers' radio.

The suite was spacious, and I am glad it was cool outside because there is no air conditioning and I imagine it can get hot inside during the summer. It measured as a Queen size bed. When we complained they gave us some bullshit about it being a UK king size. Amsterdam is in the EU it should be a standard EU size king. Then they offered to move a cot into the room for an outrageous €55 per night extra. Very unhappy about this. No washing machine in unit.

Sauberkeit und Service lassen zu wünschen übrig. - Appartement mit 2 Schlafzimmern - ein Schlafzimmer (offen) mit separatem Badezimmer/WC befindet sich auf der Galerie welche über eine steile Treppe erreicht wird. Das andere Schlafzimmer (mit Schiebetüre) mit separatem Badezimmer/WC befindet sich unten. Der Zugang zur Wohnung führt über eine steile und enge Treppe. Die Räumlichkeiten sind sehr schön und grosszügig. Auch die Einrichtung ist grundsätzlich geschmackvoll und die Betten sind sehr bequem. Super Lage, nahe Tramlinie 1 und 14 (in ca. 3 Minuten erreichbar). In nächster Umgebung nette Cafés in welchen sich gut frühstücken lässt. Zu Fuss ist das Zentrum in gut 20 Minuten erreichbar. Einkaufsmöglichkeit zu Fuss in ca. 10 Minuten Die Sauberkeit der Wohnung liess leider sehr zu wünschen übrig. Unter den Betten wurde gar nicht gewischt (Haare und Staubflusen) und in den Badezimmern hatte es noch Haare am Boden und an den Wänden. In den Schlafzimmern befinden sich hochflorige Teppiche welche optisch schön aber m.E. sehr unhygienisch sind. 3 Abflüsse (Spülbecken Küche, Lavabo und Dusche) waren verstopft. Trotz Meldung am 1. Abend an der Rezeption wurde dieses Problem während unseres 1wöchigen Aufenthaltes nicht behoben. Gurgelnde Laute und aufsteigendes Wasser im Küchenspülbecken gehörten zum Abendprogramm. Die Fenster lassen sich nur mit erheblichem Kraftaufwand nach oben schieben. Lüften ist daher nur unter Kraftaufwand und mehr schlecht als recht möglich. Auf dem Esstisch befanden sich noch Getränkespuren/-ringe unserer Vorgänger. Das orangefarbene Sofa wies allerlei Flecken auf - so auch die stoffbezogenen "Esszimmerstühle" - was sehr ekelig war. 2 Wassergläser (dafür 4 Weingläser) und 3 Messer sind bei 4 Personen 2 bzw. 1 zu wenig. Am Besteck (Löffel) klebten noch Speiseresten unserer Vorgänger. Wie sich die Heizung bedienen lässt, blieb uns bis zum Ende der Woche ein Rätsel. So hatten wir zu Beginn der Woche über 25 ° und gegen Ende der Woche nur noch 18 ° in der Wohnung. Die Erklärung an der Rezeption, wie sich die Heizung einstellen lässt, war nicht hilfreich. Wenn man an der Rezeption vorbei ging, war es ein Glücksfall, wenn man von der Person hinter dem Desk gegrüsst wurde oder unser Gruss erwidert wurde - freundlich geht anders. Fazit: Preis und Leistung stimmen nicht überein. AppartementNr. 116 - Early Check-in gegen Aufpreis.

The kitchen was sufficient, the windows were nice and large, the furnishings were comfortable and it is a pretty building. Would love to know more about the history of the place. The towels are scratchy and there were not a lot of restaurants close that we were interested in. The second bathroom didn’t have a full shower but rather a handheld sprayer.

Apartment sauber, geräumig, Kochmöglichkeit ausreichend für einen Kurzurlaub. Personal freundlich. Altes Haus mit Charme Küchenausstattung dürftig. Da doch noch viele mit dem Auto anreisen, wäre es ratsam, wenn das Personal z.B. über die Kombi aus P+R und öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln Bescheid wüsste. Das spart enorm a) Parkgebühren und b) Zeit des Recherchierens, denn es gibt definitiv keine kostenfreien Parkplätze im inneren Autobahnring.

Avoid by all means!

Es gab nicht mal ein Brotmesser. Auch ein Toaster fehlte. Geschirr ist genau abgezählt. Wir waren zu viert und es gab auch nur 4 Teller, 4 Gläser, etc. Man musste also mehrmals am Tag abwaschen. Das Doppelbett (1,40 m breit) war uns auch zu klein. Parken war auch extrem teuer (40 Euro am Tag).

• 58cema (2/5): No flexibility despite war-related flight cancellations - We had a reservation at The Wittenberg by Cove for 4–13 March, but unfortunately our flights were cancelled last minute due to the current war situation affecting air travel in the Middle East. This made it impossible for us to travel to Amsterdam. We informed the hotel immediately and explained the situation. Since the cancellation was clearly caused by extraordinary circumstances outside the guest’s control, we expected a reasonable and flexible response. Unfortunately, the hotel refused to cancel the reservation. The only option offered was to move the stay to alternative dates with significantly higher prices and strict deadlines. In practice, this meant paying substantially more for the same stay while still facing uncertainty around travel. What disappointed us most was not simply the policy itself, but the lack of flexibility in a situation involving international flight cancellations due to geopolitical conflict. Hospitality brands often emphasize guest care and understanding, but situations like this are when those values are truly demonstrated. The overall response made it feel as though protecting revenue was prioritized over showing understanding and empathy toward guests affected by an unexpected war-related travel disruption. It is very important for anyone who is considering to stay with this brand to know how they treat their customers while there is an unexpected war situation going on. People should be aware that even something as serious as a war-related flight cancellation, you will still be expected to pay the full price. In our case we had to pay the full price. Very disappointing experience. Ultimately, people want to support brands that act responsibly and show empathy & compassion when unexpected global events affect their guests. Situations like this reveal which companies truly stand by those values.

The room was spacious, very comfortable, and fully equipped with everything needed for a pleasant stay. The bed was comfortable, which made it easy to rest after a full day exploring the city. The location is excellent—quiet and safe, close to the university area, and within walking distance of the city center. Public transport is also very convenient, with tram and metro options nearby. Overall, a great place to stay in Amsterdam. We would definitely recommend it and would happily stay here again.

Only about a 15 minute walk from Amsterdam city centre and 5 minutes away from the train/tram station. Very nice location quiet and peaceful. Down the road was a few restaurants/cafes and shops which is extremely helpful as you are able to cook in your accommodation if you’d like. Reception is very helpful and accommodating with anything you need. Nothing the place was perfect!

I needed a big enough place that two teens had their own space, without breaking the bank. The 3-bedroom apartment was great. My husband and I stayed in the loft -- which doesn't have the same amount of privacy, but worked well. The kitchen had everything need we need for morning breakfasts and late night snacks. The location is in the city -- but outside the mayhem. We walked to many of the museums. When we were tired, we Ubered. There is a pizza place and coffee (really coffee) shop very close. Would recommend for a family trip.
• suzieborger (8/5): Wonderful Stay! Bring Earplugs Just in Case! :) - I had a wonderful stay at Wittenberg by Cove. I have been visiting Amsterdam for 38 years, so I can tell you this building is in a nice, quiet neighborhood that is only 2-3 tram stops, or 15-20 minutes on foot into the city center. The staff was very nice and super helpful. I even had a small plumbing issue that came up and they had someone in my flat within 5 minutes to fix it. Amazing! I had a canal view apartment which also made it so special. You have 2 different tram lines, grocery store, and multiple places to eat and drink within minutes on foot from the front door. It was also nice to be able to do laundry on site! I gave 4 stars because they advertise soundproofing. I had upstairs neighbors that kept me up several nights between 11pm-3am with heavy stomping feet and scooting chairs. The building is old and I am sensitive to noise. It is also on me because I probably should have reported it to the staff and opted not to. So bring good earplugs just in case!!

• I9086PZtonyo (6/5): Don't stay here in sub / zero weather - The staff at Wittenberg by Cove are fantastic and do everything in their power to make your stay a pleasant one. So no criticism of them implied. Unfortunately they have to operate under a strict set of management guidelines that create a vibe like staying in an upmarket youth hostel (but much nicer fittings & furnishings). Everything is minimalist, rationed and tightly cost-managed. Two toilet rolls per apartment ( for two of us staying seven nights). Yes you can ask for more at reception, who split the packet there so you can walk through the bulding with rolls in hand. Same for washing machine tablets. And there are exactly two of everything: knives, forks, spoons, glasses etc. Adequate, as long as you're ok with very regular hand washing of dishes ( yes, they give you two dishwashing tablets only). More impactful is the tight control of room heating. Each room is meant to be locked at a maximum of 23C according to the welcome instructions on the tv (ours was locked at 22C). We stayed in a period where outside temperatures ranged from -7C to 10C. At no time did the apartment feel cosy, in fact it mostly felt cold to varying degrees throughout. The reason is that the two external windows are very poorly insulated: not double glazed: an external sash window and a pane of glass inside. You can feel a heavy cold draft most times of the day and night, and we measured 9.9C to 11.8C at the window morrning time with a thermometer. The outcome is that the room can only get to around 17C maximum at any time no matter what you do, so lying in bed or wrapping yourself in the quilt is the only way to stay warm at the coldest times. Added to that, the wall-mounted radiator in the bathroom, which is quite hot in the day, appears to be turned down or off at night so towels don't dry properly overnight. The temperature control issue is reported by guests in summer months reviews who mention the rooms being too warm. Location, security, cleanliness, internet, hot water, furnishings are all fine. And, as above, we can't commend the staff strongly enough for their friendly and helpful service. To date, no response from the hotel to our Airbnb review. I recommend you avoid this accommodation during periods of sub / zero outside temperatures.

Se non bastavano gli asciugamani si poteva chiederne altri alla reception. Bella vista sul canale. Il tram 14 per Centraal station passa vicino. In fondo alla Nieuwe Kerkstraat c'è un supermercato ben fornito. Per altri negozi bisogna andare un pò più lontano fino a Utrechtse straat. La struttura è dottata di ascensore e c'è una reception per il check-in. Fine gennaio faceva freddo a Amsterdam, ma l'appartamento era ben riscaldato. La struttura è situata in un bel quartiere storico di Amsterdam, abbastanza centrale, ma non troppo turistico. Ci tornerò volentieri. Il check-in a partire delle 16.00 è veramente tardi. Con una così bella cucina stupisce la scarsità di utensili da cucina. Solo una padella e una pentola di misura media, 2 piatti grandi ,2 piatti piccoli, 2 bicchieri, 2 tazze, 2 coltelli etc. Niente insalatiera o tostapane, un piccolo canovaccio. Questo è l'unico punto che secondo me sarebbe urgente migliorare.

Could have had a warning about the stairs, because from the photos it looked like it was all on one level - my partner tripped at one point on the stairs and it scared us both. Also thought there would be a separate living room area rather than just a couple of chairs and a table in the kitchen.
