Guest Reviews
- Nancy (2/5): We won't repeat it. - I liked the accessibility to our route. I liked the small number of rooms. Very poor noise insulation -- several other residents sat outside all evening, and even with the windows closed, I could hear every word of their conversation and all their music. Baseboards, tub, and toilet in the bathroom were dirty or stained.
- Alexander (8/5): If you know what you're getting, it's a good value in a great location. - The Oak motel has a very good location within walking distance to the square in La Grange. They know who they are and they deliver good value. I had a restful night sleep and a warm shower. It's not fancy or luxurious in any way, but it's clean and they've made an effort to create a nice place for their guest which seem to consist mostly of people who come to La Grange for work. They've put their money in the places where it matters. The linens were clean and comfortable, the shower was good, and the AC worked well. I wish that the lobby didn't smell so strongly of cigarettes. It wasn't a pleasant place to be in.
- Ken (9/5): It is a fun place to visit, but needs a bit of repair. - Plenty of space. too many of the receptacles in the room need replacing
- Hugh (8/5): I enjoyed my stay and the location. Would come back. - For an old hotel, my room was clean and updated. The hotel was nicely located being right off of the town square and on the road up to Monument Hill The entry into the parking lot has quite a dip and was a scraper for my car. The curtains in the room did not adequately block the parking lot lights.
- Trish (10/5): -
- Henderson (5/5): - Bathroom needs updating. Needs new window curtains.

- Gilbert (8/5): It was great! - This is an older -probably 50's or 60's motel that has been excellently refurbished. Rooms are large and nice. We were very pleasantly surprised. Would not hesitate to stay again.
- Christine (1/5): Bad - Nothing Horrible bathroom computers down just awful
Used to be a nice independent property no more!
Office facilities looked like someone’s trashed out kitchen family room
- Davis (1/5): -
- Shirley (7/5): - Location was perfect. Friendly staff, Angie was very nice and helpful Refrigerator didnt work, floors were a little dirty
- Suzane (6/5): - Upon arrival, the property/parking lot needed some “tidying up” but the room appeared fine. Unfortunately a good cleaning would have done wonders for the bathroom. Also, the cold water at the bathroom sink didn’t work so brushing teeth and washing your face was done with scalding water.
The front desk/ manager was polite and friendly.
- claude (10/5): - Clean room and comfortable
- Beverly (10/5): Excellent Service - I booked for my mother and father who is disabled. The staff made it very accessible to get my father’s wheelchair in and out. Clean rooms, comfy beds 10 out of 10
- 111katied (10/5): Hidden La Grange Gem - This is an absolutely adorable motel. It’s a great price, it’s been updated nicely and has a beautiful restored feel. The staff is incredible and were so sweet. The outside area with TVs and a grill was great to kick back after a long day. We would absolutely stay again. Family of 4 🫶🏻
- Katie (10/5): - This property is lovely. It’s updated and being worked on to update all the rooms. It’s a beautiful vibe, easy to find and get in and out. Close to downtown. The staff is incredible and very welcoming and helpful. We will absolutely stay again!
- Mary (6/5): Nice comfortable stay - Nice clean room. Comfortable bed. Cute covered area you could hang out under.
- Kevin (8/5): - Great staff that offered good local restaurant recommendations. Great quiet room with a comfortable bed and a hot shower!! I will definitely stay here again next time I’m in town.
- Betty (2/5): Go somewhere else - Looks like Norman Bates Hotel
- Agnieszka (8/5): I will return. - The bathtub was dirty.
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Roy (8/5): Friendly family owned facility close to downtown LaGrange. - Easy checkin, family owned, friendly and accommodating staff, location close to restaurants. Enjoy the charm of a family owned place to stay in LaGrange. Some areas need update, but this is minimal and does not impact the experience.
- Chris (10/5): - Great place I usually don’t choose the less expensive places but the reviews were good! I was impressed with the place ! Comfortable beds , great air conditioning, very clean! The bathroom was clean but older but looked spectacular! I’m actually thinking about taking my wife and us do so exploring in the area ! Very interesting town and the hotel is definitely worth staying at
- Sylvia (8/5): - Staff was friendly and willing to help in any way. Facility was old, but well kept.
- KamShafted (2/5): Do yourself a favor and don’t stay here! - This motel is garbage. As soon as we pulled up in the front we KNEW it was bad. Apparently this place has been “under renovation “ for years, but it looks like they renovate on the cheap. The rooms are definitely a dated, budget roadside motel aesthetic. The room was dingy looking everywhere yet reeked of bleach, the bathtub was absolutely nasty with old hard water stains, cracked, sloppily fixed tiles, and globby, awful caulking. There were mosquitoes in the room, and the mattress was thin and cheap with really dingy sheets and bedspread. The ice bucket was a cheap measuring cup style oil container that had “Ice Bucket” written on the side in sharpie marker, there was a container of bug killer on the front porch, the chairs on the porch were cheap mismatched junk, and the baseboards were filthy all around the room. We didn’t even stay the night because I just couldn’t stomach it, so we left at 11:00 pm. The pics on their website are strategically placed to get the best angle of the rooms and grounds, but it’s truly deceptive. The only nice thing I noticed was the wonderful old oak tree in the front, and the outdoor bbq area and patio seemed ok. This hotel could be nice, but it’s old, dated, and nasty. Trust me. DON’T GO HERE. I was charged $135 for a room that shouldn’t be any more than $50 a night. This place way overcharges during Roundtop because I guess they can. Not cool. Total waste of money.
- Michela (4/5): Humble motel with spacious rooms but very outdated bathrooms. - I like the lady who greeted us and manages the rooms, and the room itself was fine, but the bathroom was bad, very outdated beyond the point of decency. The owners need to update the bathrooms. The location is remote but it was pretty convenient for our destination to the Round Top Antique Show.
- Daniel (2/5): - Manager was very kind and accommodating. Room itself was very unclean with dirty floors, dead insects and stained bathroom.
On a positive note, beds were comfortable and linens were clean.
- Joyce (4/5): Disappointing -
- Arthur (7/5): Good - it was okay
- Suzanne (4/5): Musty - Sheets were clean. You just can’t paint over dirt and germs and expect things to smell ok. Musty!
- Roxanne (8/5): - Enjoyed our stay. Close to Round Top!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Main room/bedroom area was good size & clean. Bed linens clean. Bathroom was VERY outdated. Tub & tub tiled area was stained. No way would anyone sit in that tub! A few tiles missing from shower wall.
Room was quiet. Office area to check in was bad, smelly.
- Patricia (6/5): - I like the location, but it is very dated and old.
- J (10/5): - Easy access to good food, staff is responsive and the area is safe.
- Amy (10/5): Nice stay - Thanks for improving the pillows! At least in the room I was in. I stay here typically twice a year. Quaint motel in small town. Can tell they've been updating over the years. Room last time you could tell had a water leak and patch job coverup. This room looked very nice. There was a barking dog next door but it eventually, thankfully, quieted down.
- Brandi (4/5): - Two night stay but unable to take a shower because only the hot water worked in the shower & it was scalding hot. Property manager attempted to repair it but was unable. Not being able to
- Deborah (10/5): - Cheap and clean.
- Eric (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bobby (1/5): We didn’t we stayed at a La Quinta - Cute My wife’s wheelchair couldn’t get into the room. Room listed as accessible and it wasn’t a week later still no refund. No call backs no messages answered.
- mary (10/5): - I always like staying here because it's close to everything. The area is very quiet. I never have a problem.
- Ian (6/5): - Some late night noise but otherwise comfortable and good value
- Don (8/5): - This is a bare bones place that was great if u just need a bed, toilet and a shower. AC/ heater window unit worked fine. I’d go back again.
- wayne (10/5): Best place to stay in La Grange, TX - Great place to stay when visiting the La Grange area. Safe, quiet, and convenient to local restaurants. Rooms are always clean, spacious, and ready.
- Eric (8/5): For the room cost, this place is an excellent value. Could easily be more and still worth the cost. - Room was clean. Shower was hot. Like the chair and table for my laptop. Directv was good to have. I used to have it and made me miss it. Could have used an iron but that could have been in the room description, and I just missed it. AC was a little hard to understand at first, but I got it down in a bit.
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Mills (1/5): Never again!! - Nothing This was extremely disappointing. We never got out of the car. I was expecting a quaint little motel close to downtown that had been remodeled. What I found was a sketchy motel that looked like people live there. An old panel van that hadn’t been moved in a while and a cleaning lady that looked really rough.
- Blanca (3/5): Never going back. - Location Very noisy neighbors til late at night. Water in shower was extremely hot and couldn’t regulate. The toilet was hissing and a dripping noise all the night through. Only one electric plug was available.
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- H4052YQvincentl (8/5): We stay again - Lovely quaint motel. It’s great just being able to pull up to the door and unload after a long day on the road. Huge clean room with microwave and fridge. The pink retro bathroom was wow!!!! Fluffy towels and good amenities. Alice at check in and check out was super friendly. Comfortable bed and very quiet.
- Heather (8/5): Great value. - Very pleased. Large room, very comfortable KS bed in a clean room. Yes this an older establishment but well maintained. It was comfortable and we slept well all at a reasonable price.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Nice and quiet, near downtown. Older motel, doesn’t offer all the amenities you’d get at your higher priced hotels, but was very comfortable. We liked it so much we booked another night. Would definitely stay again.
- Janis (7/5): It was ok for a short stay. - Location. large, clean room. Lack of electrical outlets.
- Hamie (7/5): Good - Not sealed well. You can see to outside next to AC.
- Montclair (7/5): It’s Was A Great Weekend Get Away I Had Fun - The staff was very friendly, I actually like that and very helpful The restroom was kinda of old , I think updating them would be a great idea
- Ronald (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lea (4/5): Bring your own chlorox wipes - While the location, price and service were great, the cleanliness of the property overroad all those factors.
The minor things were that the room was dusty and the microwave was not as clean as I would expect.
The major thing was the bath tub *yuck*. The tub looked like the hair from the drain had not been cleaned in months! The bathroom sink was also dirty.
Luckily I read reviews ahead of time and packed my own clorox wipes. I gragged as I cleaned the tub before showering.
- Kevin (2/5): - Had to ask every other day for towels, washcloths. No service unless you asked for something.
- Israel (10/5): - I enjoyed this property very much especially the outside area where you could just relax and enjoy the scenery sent a video to my wife and showed her how peaceful it was here . I’m away from home for work but told my wife this is definitely a place I would love to bring her ..
- Ilan (10/5): - Was driving through and needed a place to sleep. This is a simple, no frills, quiet, older motel that has all you need for a quick overnight stay. Bed was comfortable, AC was cold, shower was hot and price can’t be beat
- Edward (5/5): I would not recommend this Motel - The bed was comfortable The room was dirty, the bathroom was in disrepair, the property was messy and everything needs attention and updating
- Cynthia (8/5): - The stay at the motel was very nice
- Amy (10/5): - The room looked newly renovated except for the bathroom but they're working on that. Easy check in and staff was very helpful and friendly. Definitely will stay here again when visiting our kids/grandkids.
- Mary (10/5): Very convenient in its location -
- Randy (5/5): The stay was just okay. - The location was great. The place could have been much cleaner. The shower curtain was gross.
- Chris (10/5): - N/A
- Megan (3/5): Poor - The fridge had opened bottles of alcohol, assuming from previous guest, and the ac unit was dirty.
- Angila (4/5): The staff were the only reason I didn’t leave and go somewhere else . This facility needs revamping! - The staff were super friendly and helpful . The room needs revamped the door was so ild the light from outside was coming in . The bed was so hard I took the blankets and doubled them to be able to have a little cushion. The bathroom was decently clean but not deep cleaned corners and floors weee filthy .
- K (1/5): The absolute worst motel experiance in my 68 years. - 1 Close to the Square and a bakery. Close to grocery store.
2 Staff accepted a reservation change for the last day. We found a room in College Station Wyndam Garder Suite for $69 built in 2020. Clean & Safe.
Did not like continued:
17 The room was represented as Non Smoking but smelled like smokers had been in it recently.
18 Attempted to clean the coffee maker. Dirty. Gave up and went to the Bakery for Coffee.
19 I think there were only 2 people on staff clean all rooms and take care of all guests in several rooms
20 If another guest flushed their toilet, and you were in the shower, you could get a scalding burn.
21 Staff never entered our room #24 during our stay to clean or remove trash except to hook up TV at our request.
22 Because of all these issues please do not charge us for out Oak Motel Stay. We will stay in College Station and drive to the antique shows in the future. Please credit our Visa 0004 for the total amount of $462.74 for 3 nights last week. We stayed 3 nights. We should not have to pay because of all the issues that I will docuement. I need an email address for Booking .com to send photos of the issues.
1 The Floor was so dirty that the bottom of my wife's feet were black. I mopped the floor 3 times with towels and soapy water. We did not have any other choices as all motels in the area were full for the antique shows in the area. Photos
2 No hot or warm water in the sink. We had to fill a large cup from the tub spout to have warm water.
3 The Shower was not clean.
4 The toilet has water stains and was not clean. Photos
5 The toilet plumbing hardware leaked resulting in water running most of the time. What a waste.
6 The bathroom lacked an exhaust fan to remove humidity.
7 The staff all smoke and use a lot of Pine Sol to cover up smells in the motel room.
8 We had to remove trash daily, put towels on the outdoor furniture, and see the manager for new towels each day.
9 The trash piled up outside the rooms for 4 days in a row. No staff would take the trash to the dumpster.
10 The Motel Office was full of toilet paper and reaked of stale cigarette smoke. We are allergice to tobacco smoke and would not stay in the office for more than a few minutes.
11 Outside of another room is a table with a Liquor for your shots 24/7. I have a photo.
12 The Window AC had to roar all the time to keep up. The first 2 days were quiet hot.
13 Rooms did not have phones. The sign outside says rent includes a Phone.
14 TV would not work . Staff came and plugged in the CoAx and fixed it until if failed again.
15 The Door did not offer a very high level of security so we had to remove luggage on a daily basis.
16 The regular rate for this room is about $73. We were soaked for almost twice at $137/ night plus taxes.
17 The bathroom smell like the by products of a natural gas water heater. Seems like the water heater is not vented properly.
- mario (10/5): - Clean an accessible prperty
Would recommend
- Dennis (7/5): Good -
- Denise (6/5): It was fine for a quick one night stay when Round Top was sold out. - Location very close to square Very basic, could use some updating particularly in the bathroom
- Tracy (4/5): - I ended up not staying here. The outer building was terrible. A person approached my truck for a drug transaction
- Kathryn (4/5): Suitable but likely not coming back. - It was clean and I felt sort of safe. It is a dated property. Outlets were few and far between.
- Michele (4/5): - Staff very nice. TV didn't work and they fixed immediately.
- Russell (10/5): - Good beds
- Estevan (10/5): - Great service and nice location right in the middle of town.
- Teri (4/5): Although very budget friendly, I think a few changes could have made our stay so much more pleasant. - Walking into the room, it smelled fresh and inviting. A first glance gave the appearance of an older motel, which I was expecting, but one that seemed clean and practical. The outdoor seating area provided a nice shaded spot to enjoy a cold beverage at the end of the day, which was nice. The location was very convenient for us as there were grocery stores and restaurants nearby. Our reason for travel was to attend the Round Top Antique Show, so by staying a short 15-minute drive away rather than in Round Top, I was able to save a substantial amount of money.
After a long drive, the second thing you do after putting your bags down is use the restroom. The toilet did not flush so my husband went to find help and returned with a plunger. It's a budget motel so not having maintenance personnel was understandable. Having no luck, the motel manager told my husband she would look into it. Initially, we were told it was an issue with the city. Then the city said it was a property issue and they wouldn't fix it. Long story short, the toilet did not flush until the last day of our stay. Room amenities as per the website description included a hair dryer, so I didn't pack mine. However, I could not find one in the room. Although there was a coffee maker with coffee provided, there were no coffee cups. I mentioned the room seemed clean when we entered, but a closer look revealed a lot of dirt and debris along the baseboards. While the bedding smelled fresh and was clean and adequate, the mattress and pillows were so hard that my husband and I both had trouble sleeping and woke with an aching back. All in all, you get what you pay for. The toilet not working was a big issue. The floors were not swept well. The hair dryer was missing. No cups were provided for the coffee. The mattress and pillows were very uncomfortable.
- Kathy (6/5): - Comfy beds. Bathroom could be cleaner. Quiet.
- TA (8/5): For 1 night, economy was perfect. - The price was right!
- Tyrenna (1/5): Nothing - Nothing Nothing
- Tamara (9/5): The stay was nice great location - The Ladies in the office are really nice The Room has an old building smell!!
- Sidney (8/5): - The room needed to be cleaned
- Chris (10/5): - Would stay again!
- Francisca (6/5): Si close to a good impression! - Nice room it is a little old but well set up only issues we’re a musty smell and presentation of the bathroom the caulking use tape to re caulk and it would be a very nice little bathroom. But clean room I would stay again.
- David (10/5): - From checking in to checking out, The Oak Motel was completely enjoyable. I recommend this Motel over all others in La Grange. Friendly and courteous staff, and nice clean rooms, all within a short walk to downtown. I will be staying here every time im in the area.
- Mary (8/5): For the price will use again in the future. Staff was very friendly too. - Loved the outside pavilion with the tv’s to relax The rooms could use a make over especially the bathroom
- Clarkson (1/5): Bad - AC No lock on door. Bed very hard. Dirty. Loud dog barking.
- Mayra (10/5): - Affordable and amazing bed super comfortable! My favorite place to stay.
- Patti (9/5): Superb - Room smelled clean, Air conditioning was Cold, No frills. Felt retro A mini fridge would be nice. Mattress could use an update, topper or such.
- Mark (10/5): - Nice old motel
- Barbara (8/5): They gave me the keys early, and aloud me to show up when I wanted. - Location Traffic noise, some of the lights didn't work.
- Kimberly (10/5): - Cute property, clean rooms friendly staff
- Audra (8/5): Very good -
- Audra (9/5): Superb -
- Brock (8/5): We'll be back. - Our room, #35, was decent; the bed was very nice! The sink drain was very slow and there are two light switches, one on either side of the bed — obviously once for outlets for bedside table lamps — that are now "switches to nothing." Also it would've been nice to have had two bedside lamps.
The pavilion looks nice online, but not so inviting in person. The cool, retro metal patio chairs are badass! But needed to be wiped off and arranged as if someone would think, "Hey man, let's go chill out there! And look! There are games on the big-screen TV's too!"
The property is in a great location and they are working on it AND making good progress. We'll be back.
- Luis (8/5): Very good -
